Chapter 7: Heaven

Tobias and I exit Town Hall, hand-in-hand, and he throws Christina the keys to the truck. She blasts the CD player with our song, yelling, "Dance!" Tobias smirks, spinning me towards him, into his chest, and together, we sway to the music in the parking lot, not saying a word, only staring at one another. I'm still in awe that we are married. Even after everything we have been through, this song blasting through the speakers of the truck still applies to our situation. This song, that is blaring through the speakers of the truck, echos the sentiment of willingness to give up everything for someone because you love them more than anything in the world. The lyrics sit heavy on my heart; I'm willing to give up everything for Tobias as is he willing to give up his life to keep me safe. He has already proven that to me. My eyes catch on the black truck, it looks like a floral shop exploded with pink daisies and light pink tulle across the hood of it, on the tailgate written in white, bold, elegant letters: Just Married. Christina! She stands beside the truck with a smirk tugging at her lips, then grabs a box from within the truck. Walking over, she opens the box, which contains two cupcakes, she grins, "I wanted you to have everything, Tris, even though you got married at Town Hall." Pulling her tightly into a hug, against my chest, I whisper, "You are the best friend, a girl could ever have."

Her cheeks turn light pink, she giggles, "Now, go try those cupcakes before I eat one, I am starving, and I want some real food." Rolling my eyes at her, I wander back over to Tobias, who is holding the pink cupcake box. Tobias gently feeds me his small light blue flowered cupcake. I, however, smash my cupcake into his face, smearing the royal blue icing all over his lower jawline. An infectious smile tugs at his lips, he laughs wickedly at me, eyeing me as he wipes off the frosting with his fingertips. He reaches for me, and I figure out his intention two seconds before he completely pulls me to him. I push off my heels, taking off running into the parking lot. Tobias takes off, running after me, hot on my heels. I should know better than trying to outrun this man, considering he likes to run for fun and has timed PT. Giggling, I rush behind Zeke's truck, my eyes dart toward the front of the truck searching for Tobias. Suddenly I feel fingers swipe across my lips. My eyes shift to the rear of the truck, only to find Tobias standing over me, his tinted blue lips smiling at me, "Got you!" He whispers. He grabs ahold of my waist, swinging me around toward him, I squeal in delight, he cradles me against his chest, his soft, full, blue lips press against mine, coating my lips more in a sticky blue frosting. "Four!" Christina admonishes, "You are going to ruin her makeup!"

Tobias grins, "Yeah, well, it will teach her to turn my lips blue by smashing cake into my face." I laugh and roll my eyes at him. He guides me back onto my feet, handing me my shoes from the ground, pulling me close to his side, hugging me as my hand rests on his chest, his lips meet mine in another sticky kiss, and we laugh together. Christina taps her foot against the pavement disapprovingly, her arms crossed over her chest. Will sighs, "Let them celebrate their marriage. They are happy."

At dinner, Tobias holds my hand under the table, running his thumb over the back of my hand, he whispers, "I love you, my wife, and I will love you for as long as I live. I don't think I will ever tire of telling you those words." Sitting in the restaurant Christina chose for our wedding dinner, every time Tobias touches my hand, it sends a shiver straight down my spine. During dinner, we steal kisses from each other, between conversations with other people, and, in the end, I couldn't imagine a better July 5th for our wedding day.

"Did you open your present?" Cara asks, glancing at Caleb. "Yes, I love all the photos. You did a great job with the pictures. Cara, why did you act so odd when I asked if I knew you or not at the photography session? You knew everything I had been through, why did you play games with me? Why weren't you just straight with me?" I ask, staring at her, thinking about the engagement session and how weird she acted when I questioned if I knew her or not. Cara shrugs her shoulders, "I'm so sorry I did that to you, Tris, I never should have done that, it was wrong of me. I was in a weird place mentally. I guess you can say, I have never gotten into trouble until I met this one here," she points a finger at Caleb, who raises an eyebrow at her. He laughs, staring at her, "Please, it isn't like you were the only one who got busted for borrowing government property and got suspended while an investigation happened."

A sinking feeling hits me in the gut, "Oh My God! You got suspended because of me!" They both shrug their shoulders like it isn't a big deal, Caleb replies, "You are worth it. This isn't the first time I have been suspended, and I'm sure it won't be the last, my boss is an ass. Tris, you are my little sister, and I would do everything that I did all over again if I had to." Cara interjects, "Yeah, plus, I got to spend time with my first passion, photography, and I got to spend the day with Four and you." Caleb laughs, "I thought, I was your first passion." She rolls her eyes, smacking him in the stomach. Laughing, I ask, "When did you go back to work? How long was your suspension for?" Caleb and Cara share a knowing look, Cara whispers, staring at Caleb, "Caleb starts again next week on probation. I'm well, let's say, I'm going to try to make photography a career. I doubt I will ever be able to get another government job ever again."

"Are you serious? Your boss fired you? Isn't there something anyone can do?" I ask, wondering if Tobias could talk to someone on the behalf of Cara. Cara sighs, "I'm the one who followed Caleb and the one who borrowed government property without permission. Caleb was only an accessory, he was innocent in everything. I knew full well when I took those things what would happen, and I still took them because I knew Caleb was most likely in danger." Shaking my head, I reply, "Your boss sounds like an ass if he doesn't understand why you took the items you did." Cara laughs and changes the conversation to a lighter topic.

Hours later, Tobias whispers into my ear, glancing at Zeke, who is listening enthusiastically to Mattie talking about the swimming pool at the hotel, he asks, "You ready to get out of here?" Whispering, "Yes," my eyes meet his, he gets up from the table, pulling my chair from it, he says loudly, "Thank you all for coming out today, but Tris and I will be leaving now." He has a mischievous spark in his eye. Christina, Shauna and Cara smirk at me like kids in a candy store, I can only guess what they are thinking about. Looking at Tobias's slightly tinted blue lips, I smirk at him as he helps me into the truck, then begins to drive away from the town and away from the base, I ask, "Where are we going?"

He grins, "Since we can't have a proper honeymoon since my leave got denied. I thought we could go to the ocean for tonight and tomorrow. I have to stay within four to eight hours of the base in case of a recall. Lucky for us, that gets us to the coastline, I found a bed and breakfast, it is right on the beach. I know how much you love the ocean."

"Tobias, you are so sweet!" I reply, turning on the radio to listen to music, wondering what we will do with a whole day at the beach to ourselves together. My mental image of Tobias in boardshorts is interrupted by a special news report, reporting a base overseas in Syria has been attacked with twenty soldiers wounded and five others killed. Tears well in my eyes, thinking of the families left behind; in an instant, men and woman have lost their loved ones and lost their lives. What if that becomes me one day? What if I become widowed? The horrible thoughts cross my mind as the news report changes. Now they are speaking about Dauntless, a foreign country invading a US territory, and the president making a statement calling it an act of foreign aggression and calling on Congress to declare it an act of war. The news report plays a clip of the speech. All of this took place while Tobias and I were happily running around a parking lot, smashing cake into each other's faces. My heart sinks hearing the clip, "Tobias!" I whimper, "Does that mean your deployment is going to be moved up?" He quickly slides a CD into the player, getting rid of the broadcast, the CD blasting music of my favorite band through the speakers. He grabs my fingers, kissing my fingertips, shrugging his shoulders, and answering, "I don't know, Tris, please don't think about it, or think like that. Tonight, I want to spend with only you, I want to be just Tris and Tobias, no United Stated Air Force involved, or impending war or deployment. Please, no thinking about the what-ifs for me. Can you do that?"

Tears burn my eyes, thoughts of how this news development could potentially change everything in our lives, I ask sadly, "Think about what?" Tobias stares into my eyes, murmuring, "I know exactly where your beautiful mind went now," as he continues to drive us to our destination. Trying to laugh off my discomfort, I giggle, "Yeah, playing in warm salt water, making sandcastles, burying you in the sand, and wondering what you look like in swim trunks." Tobias rolls his eyes, dropping the subject. I catch his eyes secretly watching me. His brow wrinkles with worry, "I love you, Tris," he whispers to me like he is afraid I'm going to run away from him, he places his hand on my knee. "I love you too, Tobias," I smirk at him. A smile tugs at his lips as my words of love fall upon his ears.

We pull up to a Victorian house with a sign in front labeling the house: The Manor House: A Bed and Breakfast with a view. The house is nestled on a sandy beach. A middle-aged couple greets Tobias and I at the door, and they show us around the house, then to our room which is located on the third floor. The grey-haired woman quietly says, "Breakfast will be served seven to nine in the morning. Congratulations on your marriage." The grey-haired man hands Tobias, the room key, it is attached to a small silver spoon, he says, "If you need anything let us know. We hope you enjoy your stay, Mr. and Mrs. Eaton." Quickly he walks down the stairs following his wife, Tobias laces his fingers with mine, his lips press to my own, he whispers, "You ready for this, Mrs. Eaton." A smile falls upon my lips upon hearing my new last name. My last name matches his, finally! "Absolutely, Captain Eaton!" I smirk, saluting him in a mocking gesture. Tobias rolls his eyes at me, muttering, "I'm going to let you get away with that for now." He slides his arms firmly around my upper thighs and lower back, cradling me close to his hard chest. The motion brings me back to times in the past when Tobias saved me after Peter beat me up, and when he carried me over the threshold starting a new tradition at our new house. His lips on mine, interrupt my thoughts of Peter and thoughts of traditions. Peter is dead, and I never have to see him again. He doesn't get to taint my wedding night with thoughts of him, or of my past with him.

Tobias places me on the edge of the king-sized bed, and my eyes rove around the room, there is a fireplace near a sitting area with a bookshelf full of old books and magazines with a whirlpool jet tub. The tub if filled properly, the water would go up to my chin. I don't get to see any more of the room before Tobias moves back into the field of my vision, standing in front of me, between my legs. My eyes are automatically attracted to Tobias, my husband, the love of my life, the thought alone makes my heart ache with emotion. I can barely contain the tears threatening to fall, "I love you," I whisper standing, his slightly calloused fingertips ghost over my arms sending goosebumps everywhere. My fingertips trail up his sides slowly, deliberately, his eyelids slide shut. My fingers push his uniform jacket off his broad shoulders, his lips close around my bottom one, nipping with his teeth, eliciting erratic breaths and gasps to leave my lips. Wanting his body pressed against mine, wanting to close the distance between us, I pull him closer to me by his navy blue suspenders, taking him by surprise. A sly smile creeps across his lips, his hazy eyes open, staring at me like I am the answer to all of his prayers, he stumbles towards me, and at that moment I feel like we can't be close enough. His fingers move behind my back, tugging me toward him, wrapping his arms tightly around me, backing us toward the bed. Tobias lifts me, spinning us, taking me by surprise, pinning me to the bed with his hips. A squeal leaves my lips as his lips move to my neck and begin placing open-mouthed kisses there. His fingers stretch, itching to touch more of me. My fingers fumble to undo the studs of his shirt as his lips move to my collarbone. I giggle, finally undoing all of his buttons revealing his toned chest. Tobias's lips return to mine with a moan, his fingers work desperately at the zipper and buttons of my dress. He groans, "Why are there so many damn buttons on this thing?" I giggle, "Blame Chris!"

"I'll be sure to thank her the next time, I see her," he groans sarcastically. Soon, I feel the dress slump from my body. Tobias places me onto the floor, I step out of the dress, leaving it pooling around my ankles, leaving me in only my lacy white bra, panties, and heels. His eyes never leave mine, his fingers move across my cheekbone, a look of awe in his eyes, he whispers, "My beautiful wife, you have never been damaged goods to me, you have always been beautiful to me, even in your lowest moments, at least in my eyes." My cheeks burn as Tobias moves towards me, his lips meet mine in a gentle, sure kiss. He picks me up, carrying me towards the bed, and we fall onto the bed in a mess of limbs together, kissing. Tobias groans into my ear as I tug his short brown hair, the sensations overwhelming both of us. He buries his face into my neck as his lips search for mine, my nails scratch down his back, sending curses from his lips, my legs wrap around his waist as we grind against each other, getting lost in each other.

-Darkest Before The New Light-

"Is it bad I want to stay forever in this moment, holding you?" Tobias whispers into my ear, playing with my hair, his breath tickling my neck, sending another round of chills down my spine as I listen to his heartbeat return to normal. Our limbs are intertwined together under a light lavender sheet. I don't know where I end and Tobias begins. "You know, you are too good at kissing, maybe a little too good for your own good. How did you get so good?" I tease him. He grins, "Lots of practice." My mind jumps automatically to thoughts of Stacy and him, of all the years they were together. I smack him in the arm, hurt he would bring Stacy up on our wedding night, he pulls my body back to his, continuing, "With you, who else? There isn't anyone else I want to kiss for the rest of my life, only you, Tris." My cheeks heat, thinking of his skilled lips against mine. Each time with Tobias is different, but this time was the best of all. My brain continues to replay images of his body hovering over mine, his body moving with mine and against mine, and his lips moving all over my body, bringing me to complete bliss. Why was this time different? Maybe, because Tobias is all mine. He is my husband for all eternity.

"What are you thinking about?" Tobias asks into my ear. My cheeks burn, I bury my face into his chest, replying, "Nothing." Tobias lightly laughs, "Fine, keep your secrets." His fingertips draw my face towards him, and his lips meet mine. When the kiss ends, my eyes fall onto the huge tub in the room, an idea swirls into my mind, shyly, I ask, "You wanna take a bath?" Tobias and I have had many experiences in our short time together as a couple, taking a bath isn't on that list. Tobias's eyes follow mine to the tub, he grins, "Sure, you stay here, and let me start the bath. I want to take care of you like this for the rest of our life together." Tobias starts the bath, I wrap myself into a purple satin robe, and I wander out to the balcony overlooking the ocean to take in the purple and pink sunset. The view is perfect. Tobias appears behind me quietly in his tiny black boxer briefs, pulling me gently against his hard chest, and jokingly says, "I was wondering where you went to, I was hoping you didn't run away to somewhere I couldn't follow." Smiling, I respond, "Never," He stands next to me, his fingers lace with mine, he smirks, the evening light hits his eyes just right, constricting his pupils, that is when I notice he has a hint of light blue coloring in the iris of his left eye. I continue, "I'm only admiring the amazing view, it is beautiful."

Tobias winks at me, "Not as beautiful as you are," my cheeks heat as his words fall upon my ears, the words of a man who once said he never flirted when we first met, "Come, my love, our bath is ready." Tobias leads me by the hand to the whirlpool jet tub. Around the tub, candles are placed, the small lights dance from the ocean breeze reflecting against the walls. The tub is brimming with bubbles. I can't wait to get inside the warmth of it. Slipping into the bath, I notice a silver bucket of ice, sparkling cider, and two glass flutes sitting on the ledge near more candles. "Did you do all this?" I ask, surprise lacing my voice, pointing at the candles, the bubbles, and the flutes. I didn't realize Tobias could be romantic like this, recalling Stacy's words once about Tobias understanding he never showed her this side of himself. I try to push thoughts of Stacy and Tobias away from my mind for the night, tonight is Tobias's and my night, it is our wedding night, she doesn't get any space in my mind and neither does Peter. Tobias quips an eyebrow at me, looking at the candles, their flames dancing in the light breeze from the deck, he grins, "I may have had a hand in it."

"Well, Mr. Eaton, you are full of surprises, I think you outdid yourself, and I can't wait to get into that tub with you," I say, motioning to the tub. Tobias's tips of his ears turn red, he asks, "Is that so, Mrs. Eaton?" Turning to me, lacing his fingers with mine, and my heartbeat quickens, hearing my new last name. He leans down touching his lips to mine, whispering, "Shall we?" Replying, I whisper, "Let's," against his lips, closing my eyes to savor the moment with Tobias, leaning against his chest. He gathers me into his arms, I whisper, "I love you," against his chest and into his heart.

"I love you too, Tris, with all my heart and soul. You are the only person for me," he quietly says, lightly touching my cheeks, forcing my eyes to look at him. Tobias and I sink into the tub together, kissing and touching, he pulls me against his chest, I laugh as the bubbles fly all around the room. Tobias and I play in the bubbles, acting like two children, laughing. I give him a bubble beard while he makes different hairstyles with my hair using the bubbles as a gel. Tobias pours the sparkling cider into the glass champagne flutes, handing me a glass, his eyes near leave mine, tapping his glass against mine, he whispers, "Here's to us, my love, here's to our future." The bubbles of the cider burst in my mouth the same as they do in the tub, my eyes float to the ceiling, a skylight can be found above the tub, the stars begin to appear for the night overhead. He murmurs, "You know one of the best things, I ever did was ask you to sit next to me that night at the airport," pulling me against his chest, kissing my cheek, I lean my head back admiring the stars from the tub. "My heart was pounding out of my chest the entire time we were speaking; I thought I was going to die of a heart attack." I smirk playfully, "You didn't act like your heart was racing out of your chest." My mind recalls how he abruptly left from his seat, "I always wondered where you ran off to, and why you came back smelling like smoke." Tobias's lips drop for a moment, a mischievous grin takes hold, "Would you believe me if I told you I went outside to smoke?"

"I would call you on your bullshit." I reply, tracing his palm with my fingertip, "I've been with you for how long, and I have never seen you smoke." Tobias doesn't respond, he smiles, "Maybe, I'm good at hiding it."

Smirking, I reply, "I doubt that, cigarette smoke lingers." He takes a deep breath, "Fine, I don't smoke. I tried a cigarette once, on my first deployment, and I hated the smell and the taste of it. I went outside to call Stacy, to tell her I was on my way home, but I was going to be delayed. I also needed to give my heart a break from beating so quickly, my chest was starting to hurt. That is when someone decided they were going to start smoking next to me." Whispering, "I figured," remembering how Peter called to yell at me for the plane being delayed, for something, I couldn't control. Tobias's voice turns serious, "Now, no more thoughts of Stacy or to the lives we had before we were together. It is our wedding day, I only want to think about our future." The future, my mind catches on the word. What does my future look like with Tobias? Do we survive this deployment? Does he come home to me alive? Fingertips on my chin, bring me out of my thoughts, dark blue, serious eyes meet mine, and I can see the concern in them, as he says, "Tomorrow we are going to the beach, it will be a stress-free day, that is an order."

"I can't wait!" I smirk, already imagining playing in the sand, surf, and sun with Tobias. We spend the rest of the night kissing, cuddling, and talking of plans for our future.
