Anomaly 022

NAME: Duplicate Box

CLASSIFICATION: B

DESCRIPTION: A small box the size of a shoe-box with hinges on the lid. Red velvet interior with an inscription on the top that says: "I give you twice what you put in, but I take a fifth of its worth".

LEVEL: Urban Legend

INFORMATION: The Box is to be kept in a cupboard alongside other smaller Anomalies. The Duplicate Box is a small box that can duplicate anything small enough to fit in it. It takes at least five minutes for the box to duplicate whatever object is placed in it. The duplicates are identical in both size and shape. Unfortunately, the duplicates are slightly inferior in quality. Each duplicate will be worth 20% less than the original.

HISTORY: There once was a shop called Dust and Echoes. A combination of music store and Dust store. The owner, Mr. Howard Bradley received a box from his recently deceased mother. Keeping it in his back room where he received Dust and other products of his store. One night, he placed a Water dust crystal in the box and closed it before shutting the store down for the night. The morning he came in to start the day, he opened the box and discovered two dust crystals of the same type. Thinking that he placed two crystals inside the other night, he ignored it and went about his day.

That night, he placed a fire dust crystal inside it and closed the box. The next morning, he found two dust crystals of the same type. He knew that he only place one crystal inside the box and realized what the box did. He began experimenting on the box, first with Dust in both crystal and small vial form. Then with coins, nails and other small objects that he had on hand. The box duplicated it every time.

Knowing that the SDC was increasing the worth of transporting Dust to other Kingdoms, he realized he had a way to duplicate Dust and save himself a bit of money.

And for the next few weeks, he would duplicate Dust at night, then place them on his shelves to sell the next day.

Unfortunately, this was where he got careless.

For a few nights as he was duplicating Dust, he mistakenly placed the duplicates into the box alongside the originals. He then sold the copies of the copies along with the rest. Soon he received calls and returning customers asking for refunds. The copies were inferior. The copies shattered when they were used or in worst cases exploding, causing serious injuries. Lawsuits were issued.

He knew it was his fault and he knew he could have shifted the blame to the SDC for selling him faulty Dust, but he knew it was stupid. There would be investigations, a paper trail. They would find out he hasn't purchased Dust from them in some time.

It was then that Jaune Arc of ARC CORP who realized the situation and approached Mr. Bradley and made him an offer. He will deal with the lawsuits in exchange for the Anomaly. Mr. Bradley agreed on the spot. He kept his word and the lawsuits were dealt with. But by then it was too late, the damage was done. No one would buy dust from his store again. So he closed the store and moved to a new location and opened a music store instead.
