A gift for Riko
Think. Think. Think
Yoshiko repeats herself over and over again as she paces around the floor of her bedroom, a scowl present on her face.
- I need to come up with the best gift anyone had ever given to my elite little demon.
But as easy as it sounds when she says it out loud, the sad truth it's that she can't come up with anything to give Riko for her birthday.
- Argh, fuck!
She swears loudly, tearing her hair out, before she throws herself onto her mattress.
- Damn it! Damn it! – she yells into her pillow out of frustration, kicking and hitting the mattress as if that would give her any idea. It doesn't nevertheless, but at least it helps her out with her frustration.
A knock is heard in the middle of the commotion before the door opens.
- Yoshiko, are you okay? – her mother asks worriedly because of her screaming, peeking out her head of the bedroom's door.
- It's Yohane! And I'm okay, leave! – Yoshiko yells at her frustratingly.
- Are you sure? You don't look-
- I am! I'm just thinking and you're interrupting me mom!
- I can see it – her mother says amusedly, laughing, making Yoshiko puffs out her cheeks and throw her a pillow.
- Leave!
Her mother closes the door still laughing, and Yoshiko flops back onto the mattress, staring at her ceiling briefly before placing another pillow against her face, yelling into it and kicking the mattress.
It can't be so hard!
She thinks to herself, sighing dejectedly before going over the gifts she knows the girls will give Riko on her birthday.
She knows Hanamaru will give her a romance book, and Ruby a plush.
Chika something for Prelude, maybe even a bag of mikans. Yoshiko grimaces just thinking about how many mikans there would be, before continuing the review.
You will give her a dress she especially made for her.
Kanan something related with the sea, maybe a seashell. Yoshiko isn't really sure about it.
Mari something expensive that Yoshiko doesn't even want think about, she just hopes it isn't a pink car because Riko is terrible enough in the bumper cars to even want to imagine her with a real one.
And lastly Dia will give her a notebook and a pen to use for her compositions.
Yoshiko already thought about something like Dia's, Ruby's and Chika's gifts but discarded them as soon as she found out that the girls were going to give the burgundy haired girl those gifts. She could easily buy Riko a manga, but she's pretty sure she has all the ones she can think about or come across with.
She sighs and tries to keep thinking about a good gift for Riko.
Then she decides to get out of bed and leave the house, going to the mall to go window-shopping but she doesn't see anything she likes as a gift for Riko. Once she comes back home, she decides to look online for some gift ideas, she even searches in forums but nothing seems to appeal to her or make her think about a good gift, and sooner than later, Riko's birthday arrives.
She's so ashamed of not having any gift for her beloved crush that she tries to avoid her as much as she can at school, skipping the practice.
Yoshiko sighs as she wanders through the Numazu streets desperate to find any last minute gift, anything that catches her eye but nothing, she isn't lucky at all, although that's not something to be surprised of.
Disappointed and consumed by guilt, she heads to the burgundy haired girl's house. She's sure that if she explains everything to her, Riko, being the kind soul she is, will forgive her.
As soon as she rings the bell, Riko and Prelude quickly greet her as if they were waiting for her.
- Yocchan! You came! – Riko says happily, making her guilt even worse while Prelude barks, wagging its tail happily and Yoshiko crouches down to pat its head.
- Y-Yeah – she answers, standing awkwardly at the entrance.
Riko giggles and takes her by the hand to drag her to her bedroom.
- W-woah, Riko! What...?
- Come on Yocchan! You have to see what the girls gave me for my birthday! – Riko says excitedly, pushing her inside her room to show her all the gifts.
Yoshiko barely enters the bedroom when she hears Riko starting to list and point out every one of her gifts just like Yoshiko thought she would do and although she already knew what the girls would give to her for her birthday, she still listens to her attentively with a fond smile on her face.
She still has to admit that she's surprised to not see a bag of mikans there, neither a car, nor at least she doesn't remember seeing any fancy pink car parked outside Riko's house.
Yoshiko keeps looking at Riko, who is still ranting happily about her gifts, smiling widely with an excited glint in her eyes and Yoshiko can't help but step closer drawn by her enthusiasm, taking her by the hand before crashing their lips together, interrupting her with a kiss.
She notices Riko gasping in the kiss and quickly pulls apart ashamed.
- H-Happy birthday – she mumbles.
She knows it is lame and Riko will probably get mad at her for stealing her a kiss, maybe even her first kiss, but she couldn't help it, now she'll just have to face the consequences.
She's still punishing herself for what she did, when a pair of soft lips captures hers in a long sweet kiss.
She opens her eyes widely yet happily returns the kiss until the necessity of air is imperative.
- That was the best gift I could have asked for! – Riko says giddily, embarrassed, and Yoshiko can't help but smile timidly, kissing her again, eliciting Riko's giggles in it.
It seems like her gift wasn't so lame after all.
