Reverse the curse on my heart (with your love)
Beep… beep… beep…
The annoying beeping of the machine monitoring the beating of her heart slowly pulls Yohane out of her slumber, making her groan, before she notices how such a simple action mists up the mask of oxygen attached to her nose and mouth and which helps her to breathe with ease.
A heavy sigh escapes her lips misting up the mask once again, before Yohane lets her hazy gaze wander around the room.
The blue haired girl can't help then but grimace upon noticing the white immaculate color painting the walls surrounding her. Walls that over the passage of time sadly became way too familiar to her.
Another heavy sigh escapes her lips as she thinks about it, colliding against her mask, before she takes a look at the pulse oximeter attached to the end of her index finger, following it up to see the bracelet wrapped around her wrist and before she stares at the plain and ugly hospital gown she's wearing.
Yohane can't remember the countless times she has either visited or has been in the hospital ever since she was a little kid, but she does remember the first time she felt it.
She remembers vividly how an electric jolt ran through her veins until reaching her heart, shaking it as a maraca, before she felt it being squeezed tightly.
She remembers the feeling of distress taking over her as she fought for air, crying out for help, before her world blackened out and sparks of a burgundy color flew around while she fell to the floor unconscious.
Yohane still remembers the beeping of the heart monitor mixing with her mother's cries as the doctor told them she was one of those rare cases of people whose heart suffered from a curse that couldn't be reverted unless it was with the love of her soulmate.
Every new and harder jolt than the previous one squeezing her heart, made the blue haired girl want to laugh about the absurdity of the power of a soulmate reversing such an incurable and rare curse when ironically they were also the cause of her pain, feeling her heart squeezing the longer and farther away she seemed to be from her unknown soulmate.
The cursed girl can only sigh as she stares at the white ceiling above her, listening to the constant beeping of the connected heart monitor beside her bed, before she gathers all her strength to sit up, looking around the room in search for her clothes until she finally locates them not far away from her.
As soon as Yohane finds them, she pulls her legs out of the sheets, letting them hang over the edge of her hospital bed for a moment while swaying them, before she jumps and lands on the cold floor, walking to take her clothes and change her ugly hospital gown for them.
Yohane then looks at the beeping machine, turning it off, before she takes the pulse oximeter off her finger not wanting the monitor to beep like crazy and alert the nurses of her little run away.
Lastly and with a satisfied smile, she takes the oxygen mask off, but not before taking a deep breath one last time, to then finally breathe by herself for a couple of times more and head to the door of her room.
The blue haired girl then opens the door slightly, looking at one side then another of the hallway to make sure nobody is around, before she sneaks out, walking through the hospital's hallways at a steady pace not wanting her heart to suffer.
As soon as she's far enough, she can't help but turn a corner to open one of the back doors and get outside the hospital being successfully unseen, before she slightly quickens her pace towards a nearby park.
This, of course, isn't the first time Yohane escapes the hospital after one of her relapses, too tired of being "locked" inside those four white immaculate walls for days while having a machine attached to her monitoring her heartbeat as well as another one helping her to breathe evenly while she either sleeps or talks with her mom about trivial things as how dull was that day's food.
A chuckle escapes Yohane's lips as she walks through the park enjoying the fresh air blowing and filling her lungs, and while the chirping of the birds and the laughs of the kids playing around replace the annoying beeping of the heart machine she has been connected to.
A soft smile quickly plays on her lips while she enjoys such a peaceful walk, before she notices the tiredness slowly taking over her body, obliging her to pause and lean for support against a robust tree for a moment while searching for a peaceful place where she can sit and rest for a while to then set out her way back to the hospital before any nurse, doctor or even her mom can enter the room and find out she left in a little run away.
After having use the tree for help, Yohane resumes her walking and crosses in between some bushes to sit on a stump, closing her eyes to rest for a bit, before she hears a gentle melody being hummed.
Yohane's heart jolts and squeezes tightly upon the sound, making the blue haired girl gasp for air, before she shakily rises to follow the gentle melody, stumbling through the small clearing to find a burgundy haired girl around her age sat not far away from her with her back resting against another stump.
The blue haired girl can't help but notice her reading the book in her hands while her gentle humming fills the air and unintentionally squeezes her heart.
Another hard jolt runs through Yohane's body as burgundy sparkles fill her vision all while the gentle humming of the girl in front of her fills the air.
- You…
Yohane manages to croak out, placing a hand over her heart while she holds onto the tree tighter, pulling the other girl out of her reverie as an amusing and surprised shriek escapes her lips.
Yohane wants to laugh upon the cute sound coming out of the other girl, but right in that moment, her vision blurs only managing to perceive a look of concern taking over the burgundy haired girl's features, before she falls forward.
She hears the other girl yelling in surprise once again, before rushing to catch her in her arms not letting her touch the ground as another electric jolt squeezes her heart and a burgundy color paints her world.
When Yohane wakes up again, the first thing she notices it's the very familiar mask of oxygen attached to her nose and mouth helping her to breathe better as an annoying beeping fills the air.
The second thing she notices is a warm touch wrapping her hand and running through her veins that brings peace to her heart, not feeling the usual pain of it being squeezed with every breath she takes but the opposite.
Yohane can't help but look at her side expecting to see the hard look on her mom's features ready to reprimand her, when to her surprise, she finds herself getting lost in a pair of fond golden eyes as a timid smile adorns the precious face of the burgundy haired girl sat beside her bed.
- Are you okay? How are you feeling?
The other girl asks her softly but worried, feeling how her heart feels lighter with such simple words that elicit a soft but tired smile from her.
- Tired, but okay.
She answers quietly, hearing the other girl giggling and making her heart flutter with such a melodious sound.
- I'm glad then. It was… painful to know I've been hurting you all this time…
The other girl says apologetically, guilty at the prospect of have been hurting the blue haired girl all these years, and Yohane can't help but wonder if she felt it too, if she was cursed too.
- Do you… Have you been cursed too? Is your heart okay?
Yohane can't help but ask worriedly, unconsciously squeezing the other girl's hand tightly in comfort, seeing her smiling softly as she shakes her head.
- No, no! But I could feel how my soulmate- I mean you were in pain. I'm truly sorry for it.
- You don't have anything to apologize for! – Yohane rushes to reassure the other girl, hearing her giggling cutely at her outburst – I'm okay. I'm really okay now.
She tells her reassuringly, smiling at her.
- I'm Riko.
The other girl introduces herself and Yohane feels her heart racing upon her beautiful name.
- Riko… Riri…
She whispers, hearing Riko gasping upon the sudden and unexpected nickname, before the blue haired girl smiles at her beamingly.
- I'm Yohane!
She exclaims happily, doing her signature pose that elicits more cute giggles from her beautiful soulmate, before the door of her room burst wide open in an abrupt manner.
- Yohane! What did I tell you about- oh!
Yohane's mom's outburst make both girls jump startled by it and look at the older blue haired woman in surprise, before silence falls over the hospital room as soon as the old woman notices the burgundy haired stranger in the room, looking at her daughter's and the stranger's intertwined hands.
Riko, upon noticing the older woman's gaze, quickly pulls her hand away as a blush creeps up her cheeks to tint them in an adorable red hue.
- Sorry.
Yohane's mom apologizes cheekily, before she turns around to leave, closing the door behind her to rest against it as her annoyance towards her daughter for having escaped the hospital once again slowly melts upon knowing how her precious little girl and her heart will be okay and will heal from any incurable curse now that she has finally found her soulmate.
