Camp Jaha
Middle of the night
Beeping. A constant beeping is all she heard as she slowly came out of a fog. She recognized the fog as it was a side effect of a sedative that she would use to knock people out. Her eyes slowly adjusted to the bright lights of medbay and she looked around. What happened, she wondered as she tried to move and met resistance. She looked down at her arms and legs and found that they were restrained. What the fuck she thought as she looked around for Jackson.
"Great. Just fucking great." She said horsley as she tried to find the button to page him.
The arm restraints made it difficult but she managed to find the button. She pressed it a couple of times and waited. Thankfully Jackson came quickly. She was still a little foggy but could clearly make out the frame of her understudy.
"Abby, how are you feeling?" He asked as he checked her vitals. Typical question she thought.
"A little foggy from the meds. What happened and why am I restrained?" She heard Jackson chuckle which only caused her more confusion and anger.
"It was a precaution due to the nature of what happened in the mountain. I didn't want any more damage to be caused if you turned or pulled the wrong way." She nodded understanding his logic as he went to undo the restraints.
"How long have I been out?" She asked as she moved her arms rubbing at her wrists.
Two days. The sedative took a hold after your talk with Bellamy. He came by and told me that he had given you an extra dose because you were in a lot of pain." She raised an eyebrow at him. She remembered talking to Bellamy but her memories were foggy after she told him to come close.
"So it's been three days since the mountain?" Jackson nodded at her as he went to check her leg.
She tried to recall anything she could from her talk with Bellamy. She ran through their conversation and she remembered a grounder woman being present and cutting her. She remembered hearing the door slam shut. As much as she tried to remember she couldn't remember anything past the sound of the door slamming shut. It frustrated her to no end. She needed to talk to Bellamy again.
"How does it look, Jackson?" He looked up at her.
"Better but I would like to keep you for at least three more days. I know you are stubborn and will over work it because you know what you can handle but I am making the call to keep you here." She grumbled and huffed at his words. He had a point but she still wasn't happy.
"Well send for Bellamy I need to speak to him." She watched as Jackson stilled and tensed but quickly relaxed.
"It is the middle of the night Abby and he isn't here right now." She was annoyed now.
"Well where could he possibly be? He is the head of our guard. If he isn't here then who is running the patrols in his absence." She could feel her anger starting to rise. She could feel some pain coming back and it pissed her off even more.
"He left with Kane, Raven and Monty. They left when Echo, I believe her name is, was summoned back to TonDC for something. It seemed rather important. They left very quickly. He left both of the Miller's in charge of the guard."
Great, she thought. She knew that if it involved TonDC it involved that bitch of a commander who left them to die.
"Did my daughter leave with them?" She saw how he tensed once more. What the fuck was going on with him.
"No. She left three days ago. She knew that you would ask where she was and she told me to tell you that she would be in TonDC trying to make sure that an alliance still stood. The others left yesterday and I don't know when they will be back." She watched as he moved to the other side of the room.
Interesting, though. She knew that she was stuck here for the next three days. That much she had accepted as she was still in pain. She had more questions than answers right now. She was frustrated that she had not been made aware of these urgent matters. She was still the Chancellor no matter what her daughter thought.
She could tell that he was hiding something. He stiffened every time she asked something that had to do with the dealings of their camp. Could he be on Clarke's side as well. How many people had her daughter actually won over to her cause? She paused as she ran through her memories of the last few weeks. She hated the fact that her daughter had been able to do so much.
The thing that irritated her the most was that she had become someone that she had no influence over. Her daughter had become her own person and it was not the person she wanted her to be. She was supposed to be her protégé and take over her mantle of lead doctor. She knew something was going on with her daughter when Jake had tried to make up a bullshit story about how her daughter had been hurt. The story he came up with was a half truth but he didn't need to know that she knew what actually happened.
She knew what Clarke was doing and she had made a lot off of her winning. She gained a lot from those fights and she knew Jaha had threatened Bellamy with Octavia. She had hoped that the result would cause her daughter to realize that she would be better off in Medical with her. Unfortunately the opposite result happened. She watched as Clarke got closer to Jake than her. Clarke wound up spending more time with him than focusing on her studies. She would be gone every night and no one knew where she went.
She cornered Bellamy one night and asked him if he had seen her since that night and he hadn't. She knew how the boy felt about her daughter and if she had her way she wanted them to be together. She knew how her daughter tended to swing both ways but she always thought Bellamy would be the best option for her.
After that she hadn't really talked to her daughter till she confronted her about the ark failing. Clarke of course took Jake's side. She knew that if Jake made his knowledge public he would cause chaos amping the people up. She had told him to hold off and think about his family. Reluctantly he agreed and she thought that was the end of it. She went to Jaha one night to try and fill him in on what was found. She thought that if she went to him he would spare her husband. She should have known better.
Jake had released the findings anyway and her hands were tied. She told Jaha that her daughter was there and he agreed to put her in the skybox out of precaution. She hated doing it but it was the only way she would be safe. She was given the guarantee that her daughter would not be floated come her 18th birthday. If only she had known that she would never get that chance.
She could still remember the hate in her daughter's eyes that day they were to be sent to the ground. It was as if her daughter had been possessed by something else. She remembered her daughter fighting off several guards before she had been sedated and even then they had to dose her twice before she went down. She had never seen that side of her daughter before and it scared her.
She knew that she had lost her daughter at that moment. She hated to admit that she had known it back then that her daughter would never look at her the same way. Then they came down here and her daughter had taken over command off the 100. Come to find out they really had sent them to die. The thought of her daughter setting 300 hundred people on fire haunted her.
Then came along the commander. This woman was young and she couldn't believe that she led so many people and that these people were willing to be led by a child. This woman had tried to kill her daughter but now was willing to work with them after daughter had been captured by the mountain and made a truce with them.
She couldn't believe that her daughter gave up Finn for peace. She watched that night as her daughter drove the knife into the boy with a stone cold mask in place for the most part. After that night she had barely seen her daughter. She wanted to believe that her daughter was being forced to do all this. Hell she still did. She blamed herself for everything that had happened. Her daughter should have never had to make that choice to commit genocide if the commander stayed true to her word.
The commander was the problem. She wasn't blind she saw how her daughter acted that day in her office. Her daughter was protective of this woman in a way that someone would be if they were in love. That irritated her even more and further drove her to want to save her daughter from that bitch.
She was pulled out of her thoughts as Jackson came back with some food. She watched him as he came close and she knew she had her answer. She was alone in her fight for now. Clarke had turned everyone against her.
She ate in silence as she went over her plan again. She needed to speak with Bellamy. He was the only one that she was sure would help her. If he had been turned as well she would have to do something drastic. She needed her daughter back under her control and she was willing to do whatever it took to get her back.
Polis
Middle of the night
Murphy awoke with a jolt and immediately groaned in pain as he felt his skin pull as he moved. He looked around as he heard shuffling coming towards him. He instinctively went to protect himself but collapsed as pain shot through every part of his body.
"Don't move too much. Your skin is still healing." A female voice said to him.
He looked towards the voice as she came into the small amount of light that was in the chamber. She had long brown hair that came down to mid back. She had a tan complexion to her skin and she looked about his height or just shorter. She was dressed in what he assumed was a lighter version of the grounder clothing he had seen. He winced as she came closer but he relaxed when he saw the small smile on her face. Something about her made him relax even with everything he had been through.
"My name is Emori. I'm the healer they call in when the Flamkeipa wants to be discreet." He watched as she moved closer and in the dim light she noticed that she was wearing only one glove that covered her arm up to the elbow.
"What is up with the one glove. Arnt healers supposed to wear two?" He didn't mean any harm with his question but based on her reaction he knew he said something wrong.
"I'm sorry I was just curious. I have a bad habit of speaking before I think." He saw the nod and small smile return as she moved closer to him.
"Well there is a reason I am the one they call when they want to be discreet. I am the best healer that resides in the Dead Zone. I would live here but due to my birth defect I am seen as an eye sore." Murphy was shocked. How could such a beautiful woman be considered an eye sore ?
"What could be so bad that they would want you to hide who you are?" He didn't know where his words were coming from. He knew that he had no say in this matter as he was banished from his people for what he did.
"Well not everyone was unaffected when the sky caught fire. There were some of us that developed birth defects because of the excess radiation we were exposed to. That radiation has caused us to develop mutations as a side effect." He watched as she removed her large glove. He was not prepared for what he saw. He was not disgusted, he was intrigued to say the least.
"Wow." He said as he looked up at her. He saw the look of confusion on her face.
"You are not disgusted?" He shook his head at her.
"Not at all. I'm surprised that more people down here haven't had side effects from what happened." She smiled at him as she put the glove back on.
"Thank you. It's relieving to find someone who doesn't care about it. Now let me see your wounds." He nodded as he carefully removed his shirt, wincing as he felt the fabric pull away from his skin.
"Well everything is healing like it is supposed to." Emori said as he felt a cool cloth being rubbed over his skin cleaning away the dried blood.
"There are no infections at this moment which is good." He nodded as she worked.
"How long are you going to be here?" He asked, turning his head slightly to look at his healer.
"As long as it takes to fully heal you. From what I have heard no one knows that the Flamkeipa is holding you here." He nodded as he felt the bandages being wrapped around his chest.
"Good, I could use someone I could trust right now." He felt her hand still as she locked eyes with him.
"You just met me, how do you know that you can trust me?" He smirked at her.
"Call it a gut feeling. My name is John by the way." He smiled at her as she continued to wrap his chest and back.
"Well John, these should help you heal and will definitely keep your clothing from irritating them. But when we go to change them it could be more painful depending on if they leak or bleed." He chuckled as he was handed a shirt.
"Good to know. When do you think Baldy will be back?" He heard a snort come from Emori as she collected the old bandages and clean up her stuff.
"Mid day. He said that he would be busy till then." She turned and looked at him.
"Whatever he offered you I would take it and use it to your advantage. Before I came here I heard the rumblings of a woman from the sky being called Wanheda. She is starting to gather a following among the clans and is close to Heda from what people can tell." He nodded at her, thankful to have gained some minor information as to what was going on around him.
"Emori, can you find out as much information about my people as you can?" She looked at him with an eyebrow raised.
"I'll see what I can do. The last word of Skaikru was that their leader had slain the mountain and was currently in talks with Heda about something. She is also apparently taking on one the Kongeda's most sacred challenges. The woman is something from what people are saying."
"Who is their leader that is doing all of this?" He was hoping it was Clarke.
"Her name is Wanheda. She had hair that shines like the sun. I believe you may know her by Klark." He nodded and smiled glad to know who Titus was wanting information on. He knew how to protect her somewhat.
"Anything else I should know?"
"Not at this moment. Tensions are still high between everyone even with the fall of the mountain." She moved to sit beside him.
"There are rumors that Azplana has gained a new ally and is working on something." He looked at her questioning her words.
"Queen Nia of Azgeda is Azplana. She hates Heda and was the last leader of the clans to join the Kongeda. All of the information you need to know should be in those books over there." He looked to where he was pointing and saw a bookshelf filled with books.
"I would suggest starting as soon as possible. You may need all the information you can find to help your leader from here. Something is brewing and it is causing even the people in the dead zone to worry." With those words Emori gathered her things and left him to ponder her words.
He slowly and carefully rose from his bed and walked towards the book shelf. He scanned the spines and saw numbers and three letters. The first one read 2 A.T.E(After the End) the next one read 4 A.T.E. He looked down the rows of books and saw that every book was 2 years later than the last. There was one that was at the beginning of the line that had the word Heda on it. He grabbed that one and made his way to his bed.
He opened the leather bound book and looked at the first page and saw two different languages. One was a version of English and the other is what he believed to be the Language of the grounders. He scanned through the pages till he came to a page that was labeled "Wanheda".
Wanheda
The Commander of Death
While not much is known about this soul it is believed that it has not passed down like the Commander's spirit. Only one person has ever been known to host the spirit of Wanheda and that person was only found out after the First commander Bekka Pramheda was slain by a religious zealot and his cult. This woman was consumed by bloodlust and rage and slew many villages in her rage. It is said that she possessed almost the same power, if not more, that many of the previous commanders had shown when they were chosen as Heda. In the years since the last host's death, no one has come forward claiming to be the host. It is not known if the spirit of Wanheda is still existing but if you ask me she is still out there waiting for the right host to come around and when she does I hope the prophecy the elders spoke about works in our favor or the aftermath will be deadly for all of us that are still alive.
C.C
He flipped through the pages not believing that there was only one paragraph about this Wanheda spirit. Every page after this was about a different commander. He stopped when he got to the chapter about the current commander.
Commander Lexa
The Thirteenth Commander
Born 76 A.T.E daughter of Alexandria kom Trikru and Abraham kom Sankru. Was discovered as a Natblida when she was 6 years of age and immediately brought to Polis to be trained and Groomed as a warrior for the Conclave. At the age of 12 the Twelfth Commander died. She Won the Conclave by slaying seven of the other Nightbloods and one fled. At the age of 16 against my teachings Heda Lexa pursued a relationship with a member of the Trikru clan. This woman named Costia I believe was captured by the Azgedian Leader Nia when someone close to Heda betrayed her. The woman's head was sent to her and almost caused a war. Lexa instead of doing so, allowed the final clan into the Kongeda. This ushered in an unprecedented peace between all the clans. She surrounded herself with a general that she selected from all of the clan as a way of showing unity and willingness to listen to everyone's perspective. For six years we have lived in relative peace under the threat of the mountain. If rumours are to be believed the mountain is no more thanks to someone that fell from the sky with the assistance of Heda.
Titus
He shook his head trying to process the words he just read. This page was just recently updated as he had accidentally smudged the ink at the bottom of the page. It seemed like every page was a brief summary of what they accomplished in life followed by pages listing more in depth descriptions of their life. He chuckled at the thought of how much was actually recorded. He was impressed to say the least.
He stood up and moved back to the shelf and scanned the spines looking for anything that would give him a clue about what it was to be a Flamkeipa. Unfortunately he couldn't find anything. He supposed that he would learn what he needed to as he went along with this plan. He grabbed the first couple of books on the shelf and made his way back to his bed. He laid on his side trying to get comfortable as he could with his wounds. He finally found a spot and cracked open the first book and could tell that this was going to take a while.
Sunrise
Clarke POV
She could feel the warmth coming from the ray of light trickling through the crack in the entrance of the tent she shared with Lexa. She instinctively turned into her chest and groaned as she felt a twinge of pain come from her side and calf. She knew today would cause more injuries but she wanted to stay here as long as possible just enjoying the calmness that came in these private moments. She could feel Lexa stirring and trying not to move her. She smiled to herself at the gesture being shown and how much she actually was cared for.
"It's time isn't it?" She grumbled into Lexa's chest.
"Sha Ai hodnes." She sighed and rolled to sit up and winced when she felt her skin pull against itself and the cloth.
"Let me clean those for you before you get ready." She smiled and nodded at her as she removed her shirt and laid on her side. She felt the bandage pull away from her skin and was surprised that she didn't feel any pain. She turned her head slightly to look at her love.
"Well Ai hodnes, it seems you have the same healing process that I do. Your Natblida has caused all your wounds to heal overnight. All I see are faint scars. Those however will stay as a sign that you have been in battle. The commander and Wanheda apparently have that trait in common." She heard the chuckle come from Lexa and smiled.
She waited patiently as Lexa checked her other wounds from yesterday and the result was the same. Minor scars were all that remained. She sat up once Lexa was done with the wound she had on her leg and let her check the last one on her arm.
"I am glad to see that Echo's poison had no adverse side effects when it came to your healing process. That was just one of many poisons you will be exposed to, unfortunately." Clarke watched as Lexa wiped the excess dried blood away from the wound and like all the others all that remained was a faint scar. She shook her head still in disbelief.
She made her way over to where her gear was being kept. Her eyes blew open when she saw a new roll with her gear. She quickly but carefully unwrapped the bundle. Inside was a new sword and a few new daggers. She had asked the blacksmith yesterday to make them for her as she was struggling to properly fight with just one. She had seen the benefits of both options when she trained with Lexa. She was in shock at how fast he had been able to accomplish the request for her. She would have to thank him later.
She gripped the handle of her new sword and instantly felt connected to it. She saw flashes of images as she pulled out the sword from its sheath. She saw blood, limbs, and chaos everywhere. She could feel the fire spread through her as she fully unsheathed her new sword. The pommel was a diamond shape that had four spikes coming off of it. The handle was wrapped in criss crossing red, white, and black leather strips. The crossguard was a thing of pure malice. In the middle of the guard was a circle that was positioned in the middle of a pincer that looked like a metal version of a crab claw. Each side of the pincer had a handle that extended from them and then curved into a double layer claw. Between the pincer and the claws were two spikes that pointed in the same direction as the blade was the definition of fear. It was darkened steel that made the blade appear dark as night and was the same length as her other. One side of the blade was straight and sharp then came to a point. The other side of the blade was serrated to about mid blade.
As she flexed her hand and took a practice swing she saw more flashes of what she assumed was a past life. She could feel the blood spray over her as she pulled the sword out of her enemies bodies. She watched as she tore through seas of men and women trying to get somewhere. She could feel the pull of another spirit as she cleaved her way through an endless mass of flesh. She reached the strongest pulse of this spirit and she saw not Lexa but another woman who bore scars of the Azgeda. She looked at the woman and saw red. She glanced at the weapons in her hands and saw a crude version of Lexa's blade. She went on the attack and felt the bloodlust start to consume her as she felt a blade tear through her right shoulder as she connected her own sword to the throat of her foe. She yanked and smiled at the sound of tearing flesh.
"That was for Heda, Ontari, this is for Me." She heard her own voice growl as she swung again at her foe's head connecting and tearing clean through what remained of her neck. She watched as Ontari's head crumbled away from her body. She could feel her body start to heal but it was slower than normal.
She felt a presence come from behind her as she felt a spear being driven through her chest. She gasped and gurgled as her black blood came from her mouth as she locked eyes with the woman who had just won the Conclave War. It was none other than her best friend, Octavia.
"I'm sorry Clarke, you know it had to be this way." She managed a smile as she took her last breath and saw Lexa reaching out for her.
She paused mid swing as she realized where she was. She shook her head and tried to clear her mind of another vision of a past life. That was two of them now if she was correct. She felt Wanheda nod at her and all she could do was chuckle at the absurdity that she had seen. Surprisingly she wasn't as shocked this time as it felt like she had been eased into this vision. It still made her skin crawl but she would worry about that later.
She turned and sheathed her sword as she made her way to apply her Warpaint. She could still feel the faint scars on her body but they gave her a small amount of courage going into her next fights. She carefully applied her warpaint and took a breath to steady herself. She could feel the nerves start to rise as she stood from the table and made her way to the mirror.
She looked at the person standing there as she raised her hood. She could feel a deathly calm come over her as she saw her eyes staring back at her. No longer were her bright blue eyes there but now they were a dark blue and had a tint of silver in them. Her face was shrouded by the hood but her eyes pierced through the darkness and the red paint was evident. The mighty Wanheda was present and ready for war. She flexed her muscles as she heard the tent flap open and Octavia announced that it was time. Round two she thought as she made her way out of the tent. All that was on her mind was victory and nothing would get in her way.
The Pit
Wanheda vs Talor
She made her way through the town and it was quiet. Too quiet, she thought. She raised her head slightly and looked around. She saw everyone move out of her way like they had done yesterday. She smiled slightly and wondered if it was because she was hiding her face more than she had the day before. Something had changed in her when she grabbed her new blade. Something primal and dark had taken over her. She knew that she was going to have to be careful in her fights today if her visions were any indication of the brutality she was capable of.
She got to the edge of the pit and could feel a pair of eyes on her but they felt different. She looked in the direction of them and saw Lexa but there was something different about them. They were darker and had a glint of silver in them as well. That could not be good she thought as she looked to the sky and saw it was darkening like it could rain any moment. She could feel the fire start to burn though her as she leapt into the pit. The landing reverberated through her legs as she looked across the pit and saw her opponent. Talor, the weasel looking man.
She gave a slight nod to him then looked at Lexa one more time as the clouds continued to roll in. She felt the change in the atmosphere. She knew at least one of her fights was going to turn into a muddy mess. Her mind flashed back to the story of Octavia fighting in the rain to prove something. She smirked and nodded at her love.
"As you all know Wanheda has won three of her fights and only needs one more to successfully pass Na if en yuj." A roar sprang from the crowd at her words.
"She has shown great strength and courage so far. Let us see how the wounds from yesterday affect her today. If both warriors are ready then we shall begin." They both nodded at her.
"Let the fight begin" she yelled across the crowd as they roared.
Clarke felt Wanheda laugh as Talor charged in her direction. She could feel Wanheda connecting with her as she raised her arms and gripped the handles of the swords. She slowly drew her weapons and it felt like she was being split in two. Wanheda gravitated towards her new blade once the fire spread to the blade her whole body came alive.
She was used to everything being turned to eleven but this was different. She could feel Wanheda pushing past the normal boundary and everything slowed down in her mind. She swore she could see where Talor was going to strike before he even got close. She blocked his first swing and slashed with her new blade and she felt the edge tear through his left thigh.
She watched as he spun quickly to his left accidentally causing the blade to go further into his thigh. He slashed with his sword and she blocked it and saw him go to punch with his other fist. She blocked with her other sword and heard metal scraping against her blade. Her eyes found his fist and she saw spikes coming from between his fingers.
She locked eyes with him from over her blade he was smirking at her. She quickly took her original sword and pierced his calf with it. She grabbed his wrist and while still having her fist wrapped around her other sword, she punched his elbow and she heard the crack of his bones breaking. A sadistic smile came across her face as she ripped the blade out of his calf and went to deal the death blow.
"Wanheda you need to stop." She called to the spirit just as the blade was about to connect with his throat.
Clarke felt some control slip back to her as he dropped his blade and grabbed his arm. She looked up at Lexa and saw the raised eyebrow. She took a step back and turned to give room for Nyko to come closer. She had almost lost control and she knew it. She needed to get these fights over with. Something had changed in her today and she wondered if she would be able to control Wanheda.
"Wanheda has won the fight and brings her total victories to four. She has passed the gauntlet but as the rules dictate she must finish the rest of the fight." Lexa's voice was a different tone Clarke realized. Gone was the normal commanding tone that she found some comfort and in its place was a voice that sounded deadly close to Wanheda. She turned to look at Lexa.
"Heda, Bring the next two generals to the pit."
Lexa POV
She was lucky that she had been able to control the commander's spirit for this long. Something about today had awoken the spirit inside her. She saw the same thing had happened to Clarke as she locked eyes with her for the second time today. She knew what Clarke was doing and based on the end of the last fight she had an Idea that it was Wanheda in full force today and Clarke was barely holding on.
"As you wish, Wanheda." she replied to the demands.
"Sahir and Guthir come forward." She said loudly above the crowd. She heard the murmurs from her people as the generals leapt into the pit. She was intrigued as to if this was Clarke that was asking for this or if it was Wanheda wanting a challenge. She was leaning towards the latter as every fight except for Echo had seemed too easy for her love.
She heard the first crack of thunder and felt the rain start to pour from the sky. She watched as Clarke readied herself. For the first time since she entered the pit her hood came down. She had to hide the gasp at the sight of her face. The red warpaint looked like it was on fire. She focused and could see the faint white glow hovering above her loved one's skin. Jok she thought. She watched as the rain came down and Clarke just stood there waiting for the fight to start. She looked over at Nyko helping Talor out of the pit. Once he was out of the pit she looked at Clarke and she was met with a nod. Gone were the bright blue eyes and in their place were dark blue ones. She turned to her two generals and they nodded at her hesitantly and she couldn't blame them after what Wanheda did to the last general.
"Let the next fight begin." She roared through the rain and the thunder.
Wanheda vs Sahir and Guthir
Lexa POV
She watched as her two generals drew their weapons and approached Wanheda cautiously. They had seen what would happen if they charged at her. She tried to watch both but her eyes were drawn to Clarke or Wanheda, whoever was in control at the moment. She was nervous that Clarke was losing control over Wanheda. She had felt the change in the air as she had stepped outside the tent and felt The commander's spirit come front and center. That only happened when there was danger on the horizon.
She watched as Wanheda charged the two generals and went on the attack. The white glow became brighter as a war cry erupted out of Clarke. She attacked them faster than she had seen before. Instantly her generals were on their back foot and doing their best to defend themselves. She watched as Clarke's new blade connected with the right forearm of Sahir and her other blade connected with the thigh of Guthir. Those strikes were quickly followed up by strikes to the opposite person. Everywhere Wanheda slashed she connected. Her generals stood no chance and then she heard the first bone snap as Wanheda's boot connected with Sahir's knee.
Guthir to his credit jumped in front of the next swing and blocked it but was rewarded with a punch to his ribs and then a sword connected with his left arm. She heard his elbow snap as Wanheda disarmed him quickly and kicked him in the chest, sending him sliding through the mud. He tried to stand but a dagger quickly pinned his hand into the wall and Wanheda was on top of him with a dagger at his throat. For the second time she watched as it seemed as Wanheda froze and turned away from her foe.
"Guthir has been defeated." She quickly called out as she turned her attention back to Sahir.
Sahir was standing shakely on two legs holding both her weapon and Guthir's. She heard the laugh come from Wanheda. She watched as her love sprinted towards her and blocked the attempted swings with her swords. The next move caught her by surprise as Wanheda spun and used one sword to block both swings and the other to slice between Sahir's forearms severing the nerves in her wrist. It was like she was watching a doctor perform a clinic after they turned to the dark side. She heard the weapons hit the mud and watched as again Wanheda froze with a sword at the throat of another general. What the hell was going on with her love.
"Sahir has been defeated as well. Wanheda has won six fights and only needs two more to win a fight against me." The crowd hesitantly cheered even though they were processing what they had just witnessed.
"Bring me Aslena Kom Sankru." She heard Wanheda roar from the pit.
This time Aslena was already in the pit before Nyko could even move Sahir to the same side as Guthir. She had no choice but to start the next fight. She looked at the woman she considered a sister and saw a fire in her eyes that she hadn't seen in while. Both of her weapons were already drawn and she saw the slight nod come from her.
"Then begin." Is all she said as the rain came down harder causing her to almost losing sight of both of them.
Wanheda vs Clarke and Aslena
Clarke POV
She couldn't believe what just happened. She had been forced to watch as Wanheda had taken full control and dismantled Sahir and Guthir. She knew that she had to gain some control back if she didn't want to burn out and fully lose herself to this spirit. She watched as Wanheda and Aslena locked weapons. She was surprised to see that Aslena knew when to dodge and when to strike. She could feel Wanheda was getting flustered because she was not winning as easily as the other fights.
She felt the pain as a dagger was slammed into her thigh. Then more pain as her right knee snapped. She felt Wanheda pore more power into her body to try and start to heal the broken knee and she could feel it was working. She felt the slice form on her left arm as Aslena caught it with the curved edge of her khopesh. She felt her leg move and her foot aimed for Aslena's right ankle and it connected causing a break to form. She watched Aslena grimace but continued her attack.
"So this is what the mighty Wanheda is all about. Causing as much pain without honor." She felt Wanheda's fury kick into motion at her words.
"The only honor there is in life is destroying your foes to the point you are the only one left. There is a reason why I am called the Commander of Death Aslena kom Sankru." Clarke knew she was running out of time.
"Then show me what you are all about then Wanheda. If you fight with no honor then you do not deserve Clarke as your host." There was her opening.
She waited till Aslena and Wanheda locked swords again. She gathered all the strength she had to push past the wall Wanheda had put up and tried to retake control of her body. She succeeded but she knew it was for a limited time. She needed Aslena to knock her unconscious while she was in control.
"Aslena, you need to knock me out. It's the only way you will win. I am close to losing the small control I have over Wanheda. She is burning through the limited bond we share."
"Understood Clarke. I am sorry for this." She fought Wanheda taking back control with all the willpower she had as she felt a fist connect with her face causing her to stagger. Then she felt a boot connect with the side of her head and she was falling towards the ground as she dropped her weapons.
The last thing she heard was Lexa announcing Aslena as the winner.
Lexa POV
When Clarke hit the ground she let out a sigh of relief. Thanks to her enhanced hearing that came with the commander's spirit she heard the conversation. She was defeated to know her suspicions were correct but glad that Clarke had regained control over the spirit. When Clarke stilled something odd happened as the weather started to clear and the sun started to show again. What the hell, she thought as she watched Aslena pick up Clarke and head to the ladder.
"Thank you people of TonDC for coming to watch today's fights. I know you have questions but I promise you that everything you saw here today was not an illusion or some trick. That was the spirit of Wanheda in full view. Clarke Kom Skaikru is still learning how to work with the spirit so it is to be expected that this would happen from time to time." She took a breath as her words sank into the minds of her people.
"As it stands now Clarke has won six of the twelve fights against my generals. She will continue the remaining fights tomorrow morning. You all may return to your duties." A resounding cheer sprang from the crowd along with a Sha Heda.
She scanned the crowd and found Clarke was being taken to her tent followed by Lincoln and Octavia. She slowly made her way down from the stage and to Nyko's tent. As much as she wanted to go to her tent she needed to speak with Nyko first.
She entered his tent and saw him lying Sahir and Guthir on respective beds. They all turned to look at her and tried to stand but she just shook her head and for the first time let a smile show. She was concerned about them and she needed to try to show it for once.
"Nyko I know you haven't had time but from what I saw I think it would be best if they went to the healers at Skaikru. They have healing methods that we don't and would ensure that my generals recover faster." The look on Nyko's face said it all.
"Heda, do you think they would help us?" She nodded and turned to a warrior standing guard.
"Bring me Marcus Kane." he nodded and left. Five minutes later they were joined by the man.
"Heda you requested my presence?" He said as he bowed to her. She smiled at him and nodded her head.
"It is my understanding that you are leaving in the next hour, correct?" He nodded at her.
"Good then I am needing to send these three with you. If what Clarke tells me Fisa Jackson will be able to help them heal faster than we would be able. Can you assure me that if they come to your camp no harm will come to them?"
"Sha Heda. You have my word that no harm will come to them." She saw him take a breath and wondered what was coming next.
"If I may ask. What happened to Clarke. I have never in my life seen something like that." She understood where he was coming from.
"Nyko get them ready to travel. I am sending you with Kane as well. It will do our people good to work together. I trust that you have a Sekon that can handle your duties while you are away." He nodded at her.
"Good you leave in an hour. Marcus, walk with me." She turned and exited the tent not waiting to see if he was following. She smiled when she heard the footsteps behind her.
"What you saw Kane was the spirit of Wanheda in full force. I was not lying when I told that to my people. There is not a lot known about this spirit and she has only been recorded being around one other time. Clarke is the host of this spirit." She took a breath as she slowed her pace on the way to her tent.
"Wanheda in my culture is known as The commander of Death. She is known to be ruthless and bloodthirsty. Everything you saw was most likely a fraction of what she is capable of and I am thankful that Clarke was able to regain some control of Wanheda. It would not have been good if she wasn't able too."
"If this spirit is so dangerous, why did it choose Clarke?" If only she had the answer to that question.
"I have no answer for you. The Commander's spirit that I am the host to has no idea either. We are both trying to figure out what this means. There is this prophecy in our beliefs that the Spirit of Wanheda and the Commander will bring an everlasting peace or utter destruction to our world. It is said that it will take both of them to achieve peace or we are doomed to be wiped off the face of our world." She heard the gasp come from him as she turned to look at him and saw he was deep in thought.
"So hypothetically if one of you were to die, it would cause the other spirit to consume the host and cause the end of the world." She nodded at him.
"Then let's make sure that does not happen. Follow me for a second. I need to ask you something away from prying eyes." She nodded as they ducked into a tent.
"What is it Marcus?" She was curious about the need for privacy.
"I wanted to respect your privacy but with what you told me this makes everything I have been told make more sense." She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Clarke told me about you two. She felt like it was wise that I know. She told me about the deal you two made as we were coming out of the mountain. I was skeptical of why she would come here after what had happened but it makes more sense now." She tried very hard to control her emotions.
"In our history there have been stories of people having soulmates. We believe that everyone has the perfect match for their soul. In yours and Clarke's case you are connected by the spirits and in turn you two have come together and started to care for each other. If what you are telling me is true then it sounds like the original hosts of these spirits were soulmates and when one died the other couldn't live any more." She was shocked to say the least. She was worried now about how many people Clarke had told but she was shocked that Marcus was taking this so well and trying to reason with her logically.
"You are closer to the truth than you realize Kane." She laughed as his eyes went wide at her words.
"Jok" is all he said as he sat down.
"It is a lot to take in but now that you know I am trusting you to keep this to yourself. The ramifications if this were to get out would not be good. I have many enemies and many of them believe that if they were to kill Clarke they would gain the power to control death. I promise you Kane that it will never come to that. Clarke is aware of what is at stake and is doing what she can to make the clans believe that you are worth their time." She sat next to the man.
"Word will spread of what Clarke is doing here. For most of the Clans they will respect her and your people more. It will cause them to be more willing to accept Skaikru into the Kongeda. For the others they will see her as a threat to my throne and will want me to take action and claim her power for my own." She heard the gasp again come from him.
"It will never come to that Kane. It is hard for me to express emotion after what happened to my last love. I made a vow as soon as Clarke forced her way into my life that I would never let that happen again. Clarke is strong and she can take care of herself. She asked for this trial knowing full well what it could expose. She wanted this to secure Skaikru even further down here. All she cares about is taking care of her people no matter if they sent her to die." She heard the chuckle come from him.
"Leave it to Clarke to be the one to put everyone else before herself. Thank you for looking out for her. She had no reason to look out for us adults that sent the 100 down her but she did. I know very little of what happened when they landed but I know they had to grow up fast and they lost some people. I will do everything I can to ensure you have no troubles from Skaikru." He stood and extended his arm to her. She smiled and grasped his arm in a warrior embrace.
"I believe you will be Marcus kom Skaikru. Now I must go check on Clarke while you head back to your camp. Echo will be returning the day after tomorrow. I will be sending some of my warriors back with you to help you further expand past your walls." He nodded at her as she turned to leave.
"Mochaf Heda." She turned her head slightly and nodded at him in thanks.
Lexa's tent
Midday
Clarke POV
She couldn't have been more pissed off at Wanheda than she was now. She was standing in a field. Staring face to face with Ash trying to will a physical form for Wanheda but it wasn't working. She knew Ash was the closest thing to a physical form but she couldn't take out her rage at her.
"What was she thinking, Ash? She damn near killed me from burnout. I should have never listened to her when she gave me the plans for that damned blade. I should have known as soon as I got those visions it would not end well." She was pacing now.
"Unfortunately Clarke you needed another sword, I hate that it was that particular weapon because it was a version of my sword I carried. The design must have resonated with Wanheda when I used to slaughter villages after Becca was murdered. Before I died I had it smelted down into this ring." She watched as she pulled a chain from underneath her shirt.
"It served as a crude reminder of the pain I caused because of Wanheda. She is not a kind spirit Clarke. She is the complete opposite of you and it will take time to find the balance. She burnt through me faster than I had anticipated. You are stronger than me Clarke. You showed that today when you were able to push through her and take back control." She felt Ash come close to her.
"I know what to expect now I suppose. It was odd though, being in tune with so much power. The fact that I think I was the one that caused the change in the weather is concerning." She heard ash chuckle at her words.
"I think it may have been attributed to both you and Lexa being in tune with your respective spirits. I know you felt it when you entered the pit the first time. You two have a lot to figure out and discuss. I understand your frustration with Wanheda but Clarke I fully believe that if any one can take her it is you. You and Lexa are the strongest hosts to come along." Clarke nodded as she looked out across the field in front of her. For the first time it was peaceful. There were no bodies, no war, just a calm breeze.
"Ash what was it like after the bombs dropped?"
"Well it was chaos to say the least. Everyone that was able were stuck in bunkers like Mount Weather. No one ventured outside for at least six months. Shortly once we were able to go out there was fights between everyone in the bunkers trying to survive. There we groups of people that believed two different things. One group believed that the answer was not on our planet but in some device they found. This was the cult that put Becca to the torch. The other side wanted to explore the land and look for any signs of life. The daughter of the cult leader was among those that connected with Becca. She was special but sadly after Becca died those of that were able escaped and tried to start life on the ground. Most of the area was highly contaminated and most of us died." She heard the wavier on her voice.
"Becca had know that I was different from the get go. The flame started with Becca and was passed down to Callie. She became the first Flamkeipa while also being given Natblida. A select group of people were successfully bonded with Becca's altered blood and would be the ones to pass down the trait. Only two of these people would go on to have children hence why someone being born with Natblida is so rare." She just listened as Ash continued traveling down memory lane.
"I split from the group once I knew they were safe. I was alone for years. I slowly became consumed by Wanheda and by the time the third commander was in place I was in my thirties. I was tired of living alone. I gave into Wanheda and she took control. I destroyed villages and caused as much pain as I thought was necessary. I punished those who I felt had wronged me when in turn they didn't deserve it. I became Wanheda in her truest form." She heard the tears start to fall. She was surprised when she went to embrace Ash that she actually felt something solid.
"When I was finally struck down I had left pain in my wake. My story would be buried and I knew it. The Flamkeipas would never allow the truth to get out. I wouldn't even be surprised if there is very little about Wanheda written down anywhere. If you are able to get to a point where you have some control don't let it go. I believe you having Lexa will help." She felt Ash lay a hand over hers.
"Whatever you do Clarke, hold on to what you have. Live for it or find a reason to not let go. My biggest regret was letting go and giving up. I will help you combat the side effects that I am aware of. It will take time for you to get used to the raw power of Wanheda but I think together we can make sure you succeed." Clarke smiled at her as the air shimmered in front of them.
In front of them Becca appeared. She was smiling which seemed odd but Clarke was more concerned with why she was here. She stood and walked over to meet her. She was surprised that when she extended her hand, Becca greeted her like one of the warriors would. Just like she had mass and wasn't just there.
"Bekka Pramheda." She said
"To what do I owe this visit from you."
"I saw what happened through Lexa's eyes and I came to make sure you both are okay." Clarke raised an eyebrow at her.
"I mean I'm okay for almost coming close to burn out, but Ash had a nice chat with me so I think I'm better. I'm guessing you are here because Lexa is also worried." She heard Ash chuckle as she joined them.
"Partly yes. You have been unconscious for almost 4 hours now. Lexa joined you shortly after she met Kane at the gates. He is leaving with three of the generals you fought today. They are going to be treated by Fisa Jackson and Nyko is going as well." She nodded processing this information.
"I am also her because Clarke I have never felt Lexa as scared as she is right now. She is afraid that she has lost you to Wanheda. What you did was not normal but she heard everything and what you said to Aslena. You are strong Clarke and she is waiting for you when you wake." She smiled slightly but a part of her was afraid to wake.
"What if when I wake I am different. The power I felt today changed something inside me. I am afraid that if it were to happen the next time I use my new weapon I won't come back." Becca smiled at her.
"If you weren't afraid then you would already be lost. The fact that you are afraid is a good thing. It means you want to live. I know you didn't choose this life Clarke and I won't lie and say it will be easy but if there was anyone that would be able to handle this I believe it is you. With Lexa by your side you two will handle anything that comes your way." She chuckled at her words.
"You sound like Ash. She said pretty much the same thing. Thank you both for your words. I suppose I should stop worrying, my love." They both chuckled at her words.
She could feel the grogginess as she slowly opened her eyes adjusting to the small amount of light illuminating the tent. She tried to move her head but immediately regretted it as her head throbbed and she felt nauseous. She felt a cool rag being placed on her head and she saw green eyes looking at her. She smiled at her love and relaxed slightly.
"Ai hodnes." She rasped out as she reached out a hand and felt Lexa's hand grasping hers.
"Sha Ai hodnes."
"I am okay. Just a headache and a slightly busted knee." She tried to laugh but the motion caused her head to hurt more.
"I can see that. Do you remember anything from the fights?" She nodded at her love.
"I remember everything. I remember feeling Wanheda takeover and the power she gave off. I remember barely stopping her as she went to kill the generals. I remember everything. I am sorry that I almost lost control of her." She felt a thumb wipe the tears coming from her eyes.
"Clarke, you didn't lose control of her. You stopped her before she went too far. I heard what you told Aslena. Something was off today but you handled it with courage and strength. You learned what it felt like for her to take control and now you will be able to keep it in check." Clarke smiled at her.
"Thank you Lexa. That is what Ash and Becca said as well." She chuckled at Lexa's raised eyebrows.
"Yeah while I was out I chatted with Ash and she explained some things and I got more information on her life. Just before I woke up Becca showed up and just reassured me and said you were here." Lexa shook her head and let out a small laugh.
"That does sound like her. Now you mind telling me where this came from." She sat up slowly as Lexa pulled her new sword out of its sheath and laid it on her lap. She flinched at first but slowly gripped the handle. She was shocked when there was no immediate rush of power or visions.
"Technically this was Ash's weapon and Wanheda gravitated towards it. Wanheda gave me the design and I had it made yesterday. Ash had the original melted down to a ring she wears around her neck." She slowly handed it back to Lexa and she watched as Lexa inspected the sword.
"It is a fine weapon and will serve you well. I think now that you have been exposed to the connection you should be fine." Lexa sheathed the sword and walked over to the table that housed the rest of her gear.
"The rain has not fully left the area and tomorrow will be just as muddy as today. You are doing well my love. I am looking forward to our fight." Lexa smiled as she leaned down to give her a kiss.
"I do as well my love." she smiled as Lexa turned to retrieve her normal clothes. She watched as Lexa came back and helped her sit up.
"Mochaf." Lexa nodded at her.
"After you change, if you feel like it, Echo would like to speak with you. I have some meetings to attend to but after that I am free for the rest of the day." Clarke smiled as she slowly changed.
"That will be fine." Lexa nodded and left to go retrieve Echo. Clarke smiled as she felt Ash whispering to her about an idea she had to help with the influx of Wanheda's power.
Camp Jaha
Evening
Monty POV
The last couple of days had felt like a whirlwind to him. He went from being trapped inside Mount Weather to being rescued by Clarke, who had changed into a fighting machine, then to being in camp for a day, then going to TonDC on urgent news. He was not prepared for what would happen there either. He replayed everything in his mind but he knew that Clarke was doing what would secure them a future.
They had arrived back at camp with an hour to spare before sundown. Raven and Kane had said that expansion would start tomorrow once they got the bases for the water wheel design figured out. He told them that he was going to go check on Jasper who since they had gotten back from the mountain had been on non a stop binger. He hurt for his friend but he knew Clarke was in a corner and if he had been in her position he didn't know if he would have been able to make the same call.
He walked into the small gathering area they had built and made his way to where Jasper normally crashed. He walked inside and saw that Jasper was packing his things.
"Jasper, what are you doing?" he asked as he moved closer.
"I am done with this place Monty. I am supposed to stay here if I cant trust the person that is supposed to save us. It is always and will be Clarke's word even if there is a better option. She murdered Maya and I can't stay here." He was not prepared for the anger and the hate that was spewing from Jasper.
"Where are you going to go Jasper? Once you step outside these walls you won't know where to go or how to survive. Hell you haven't been sober in the last five days." he was at a loss as to what to do. He had just been asked to help Kane but his closest friend was about to up and leave. He was torn between friends.
"I am sure I will be fine. We supposedly have peace with the ones that made Clarke kill Maya. Plus I got this to take care of any animals. If you remember, I was the one that saved Clarke on the bridge. Much good that did." Monty watched as he pulled one of the remaining rifles out from underneath his bed. He knew what he should do at that moment.
"Jasper, wait for five minutes and I'll come with you. Together we might stand a chance." Jasper just looked at him and nodded.
Monty took off out the door heading for Kane. He knew he was on a clock. He found Kane at Raven's shop. He burst through the door and was out of breath. They both turned to him shocked.
"What is going on Monty?" Kane asked. He took a deep breath before he spoke.
"Jasper is going to leave and he has one of the rifles. I don't know where he plans on going but he is still angry at Clarke for the mountain." He watched as both their eyes blew open.
"Raven, gather the warriors that came with us. They seemed to take a liking to you. Have them surround the walls. We can't let him leave." She nodded and quickly made he way to where they were setting up camp.
"Miller, we have a code 12. Meet me in the gathering area." Kane said through one of the radios as Monty followed closely behind him hoping he was doing the right thing.
"Copy on the way with some of the guards." The radio went silent as they made their way across the compound to where Jasper was.
They entered the area with the younger Miller and his guard. They stopped outside Jasper's area and let Monty go in first. He nodded at them and started to enter where he left his looked around at the place and saw no one around.
"Jasper, I am ready to leave when you are." He called out into space. Just as Kane was about to enter the room they heard a gunshot ring out and they all bolted out of the building.
"Kane , it's Raven, one of the warriors tried to stop Jasper as he was leaving through the fence and he was shot. The others tried to go after him but Jasper fired back at them as he took off running . We need to tell Clarke now. I am on the way to Medical with the warriors. Time for you to play the leader." Monty could not believe what he was hearing. Jasper was gone and shot their allies.
"Kane, give me the radio." He said shakily.
"Jasper, I know you can hear me. I know you took a radio as well." He waited but heard nothing so he continued.
"I hope you know what you just caused and the ramifications of what it means. I hope you find whatever you are looking for." He handed the radio back to Kane and made his way to Raven's shop to warn Clarke.
Kane POV
He felt for Monty but Jasper had made his choice. He made his way through the camp and people asked him questions. He called a meeting in the main area and informed him that the shot they heard was a misfire from one of the guns. He also told them that one of their own has decided to leave the camp. That caused a murmur to spread. He assured them that he would do everything to find this person and bring them home. Thankfully the people bought his story and went about their day.
He went over to Raven's shop where the big radio was and found Monty sitting at the table with no expression on his face. He walked over to him and placed his hand on his shoulder. He knew he was blaming himself for all of this but there was nothing he could have done to change Jasper's mind. He went over to the radio and took a breath to center himself.
"Skaiheda come in." He waited for a response. He had no idea what Clarke was doing and knew it could take a minute.
"Kane, I hear you. What is going on?" he heard the steadiness but also the unease.
"We have a problem. One of the warriors was shot by Jasper. Jasper has also left and no one knows where he is going. Heda's warriors tried to follow but stopped as he kept shooting at them." He let go of the button and was not expecting the voice that came over the radio.
"Marcus, how is my gona?" Fuck he thought it was the commander.
"He is fine. Jasper got him in the arm and it was through and through." He waited for Clarke to explain.
"So he will recover?"
"Sha Heda. I gave you my word and I have failed already. Whatever you decide I will accept." He took a breath waiting for his sentence.
"You were not aware that Jasper was going to do this correctly?"
"Sha Heda. Monty alerted me that Jasper was not right and when we went to talk to him he was gone and everything quickly fell apart from there."
"Then you did the right thing. You immediately let us know. I will send out scouts to try and find him. If he crosses into Azgeda territory he is most likely gone." Kane felt his shoulders sag and he heard the chair behind him scrape across the floor as Monty got up and left.
"Understood Heda. Mochaf." He let go of the button and waited to see what else would come.
"Kane, Jasper is now considered a part of the clanless. He left Skaikru willingly and attacked a member of the Trikru. If he is found by the Trikru he will be brought to TonDC for punishment. If he makes it to another clan they will decide what to do with him. He made his choice. Thank you for letting me know." He heard her take a breath.
"Keep an eye on Monty. He is going to blame himself for this."
"I will Clarke."
"Thank you Kane. Skaiheda out." The radio went silent as he put the remote sighed as he stood to continue on with his day. He knew that Jasper was on his own and he just hoped that he would survive.
Border between Azgeda and Skaikru lands
Jasper POV
Night
He finally found a spot to stay as it was pitch black now. It was a very small entrance that was just big enough to provide him shelter. He had no idea where he was or where he was going but he just wanted to be gone. He gathered a small amount of sticks and leaves to try and make a fire. He was never the best when it came to this but had managed to make one. He knew at some point he was going to have to eat but he had stashed some food from the camp in his bag before he left. He was trying to get warm as he settled into his hole for the night. He had managed to grab the blanket from his bed and some other essentials.
He took a swig of the hooch he had been drinking for the last few days. He was almost out and he knew that once he was he was going to be in a world of hurt. His hangover was going to be a nightmare. He braced himself against the wall of the hold and tried to get comfortable as he watched his small fire burn. He knew that he could never go back to Camp Jaha after the incident he caused. Hell he wouldn't be surprised if that murderer had already sent someone to kill him.
He heard a noise from outside and pointed his gun at the entrance just in case someone was there. After a few minutes he lowered the gun and took another swig trying to calm his nerves. He had not slept in days. Everytime he closed his eyes he would see Maya in his arms dying over and over again. No matter what he did it had the same ending. The one person that saw him and cared for him was taken from him.
He jumped at the noise again and fired a warning shot randomly into the abyss. When nothing came of it he figured whatever it was got the message. He took another swig as he could feel his eyelids start to droop. He fought against the tiredness as he started to blink in and out of consciousness. He felt the gun slip out of his hands and his head fall forward as he succumbed to the blackness.
Not far from his resting spot two different sets of people were watching him to see what he would do. One was an ally gathering information to take back to their leader. The other group saw a Skaikru member weak and vulnerable. Both groups had different missions but the same goal. Watch and observe.
