AN: I do not own the Fallout series. For the first time in NEARLY A YEAR, I am back. And baby, I'm back with the final faction ending for this game: The Brotherhood of Steel, Bad Karma.

The Brotherhood of Steel Ending, Bad Karma

Intro, narrated by Ron Perlman

The Sole Survivor, the man who had cheated time in Vault 111, who faced the Wasteland to find his son, had instead changed the Commonwealth forever.

The Sole Survivor, narrated by Ron Perlman (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

Joining the exalted ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel as Sentinel, the Sole Survivor struck at the heart of The Institute, ending their reckless experiments and freeing the Commonwealth from the terror they had sowed for decades. Though he had lost the chance at reconnecting with his son, the Sole Survivor did not regret his choice, for he had struck down the Boogeyman of the Commonwealth.

The Survivor, a product of the ruthless and uncompromising militantism of the Pre-War United States, rose swiftly through the ranks of the Brotherhood, becoming the perfect tool of order and knowledge. Embracing the tenets of order, martial superiority, and the preservation of human purity, he broke the Institute's chains and shattered the Railroad's anarchy. The pain from the loss of his family and nation became the driving force behind a vicious crusade that would bring order to this new world, one way or another. He stood among his new brotherhood, clad in steel and energy, a warden keeping dangerous knowledge and technology from those who could never be trusted to use it.

The Brotherhood of Steel, narrated by Arthur Maxson (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

The Brotherhood had triumphed. After aiding Recon Squad Gladius and fighting alongside Paladin Danse, the Sole Survivor once more found himself a soldier, one fighting not for pride and for oil, but to bring order to the Commonwealth and to purge it of the mutant, the synth and the chaotic. And with his aid, the Brotherhood once more utterly destroyed those who would see humanity fall once more. With their mission accomplished, and both the Institute and their synth-abominations purged, the Brotherhood had successfully reclaimed the Commonwealth for the future of humanity. Its dangerous technology would be guarded by the Brotherhood, never to be used until deemed fit by the self-proclaimed wardens of the human race.

Not all was well in the Brotherhood, however. Though loved and admired by many of his brothers, the newly christened Sentinel embodied the worst aspects of the Brotherhood: xenophobia, elitism, and brutal militarism. These aspects only worsened over time as more and more of the Brotherhood saw him as their champion. In time, a new schism may form once again in the Brotherhood, one that might see it once more become the very thing the people of the Commonwealth feared it was.

The Institute, narrated by Father (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Evacuation not sounded)

After infiltrating the bowels of the Institute, the Sole Survivor found not the innocent boy that had been stolen from him, but a man whose hands were soaked in the blood of the Commonwealth's citizens. Realizing that the son he had lost would never be returned to him, the Sentinel rejected the Institute and saw it destroyed. He paid no heed to the figure on his deathbed, the son he had wanted had already died long ago.

Under his Elder's orders, the Sole Survivor razed the Institute to its foundation. No soul complicit in its crimes, be they human or synth, would be allowed to live. With the evacuation alarm silent, justice was dealt, and blood was cleansed in nuclear fire. The Institute's destruction was met with cautious silence by the people of the Commonwealth. Though their boogeyman was vanquished, it had been replaced. The Commonwealth had a new 'Best Hope for Humanity'.

The Railroad, narrated by Desdemona (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

The Railroad was no more. Agent Bullseye proved to be a liar and a traitor, dealing a crippling blow during the Battle of Bunker Hill, before finishing the Railroad off during the Brotherhood's raid on the Old North Church. With their leadership dead, P.A.M stolen and many of their safehouses compromised, the Railroad was finished. Only a small handful of surviving operatives tried to rebuild, but it was pointless. It was the end of the line for the Railroad, and only darkness greeted them.

With both the Institute and the Railroad destroyed, the surviving Synths of the Commonwealth had nowhere left to run. One by one, those still trapped within the Commonwealth's borders were hunted down and murdered by Brotherhood hit squads. In time, the Synth population would dwindle into almost nothing. To the Brotherhood of Steel, mankind only had one definition, and that didn't include Synths.

The Commonwealth Minutemen, narrated by Preston Garvey (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Do not rebuild the Minutemen)

Though he saved the settlers from Jared's raiders and helped them establish the settlement of Sanctuary, the Soke Survivor had no interest in rebuilding the Minutemen. At the time he was too concerned with finding his son, and later aiding the Brotherhood of Steel in their battle against the Institute. In the end, the Minutemen were left to fade away as the Brotherhood rose to power.

The Minutemen's role as defenders of the Commonwealth was taken by the Brotherhood, for better or for worse. Their technology and strict hierarchy made them superior in keeping the citizens safe from raiders and mutants alike, but their elitism and moral absolutism turned away many allies. They enforced order as defined by them; cold, logical, and precise. The people were protected, but not a soul felt safe under the Brotherhood's flag.

Paladin Danse, narrated by Paladin Danse (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Danse during Blind Betrayal)

Danse did not live to see the Brotherhood's triumph over the Institute. When his true synthetic nature was revealed, he fled and was hunted down like a dog by the Knight he trained. His gross betrayal of the Brotherhood and the tenets it stood for could not be forgiven, and his execution was performed by the man he had brought into their ranks. Danse's body was left in that abandoned listening post to rot and be forgotten, one more synth destroyed, one less threat to humanity the Brotherhood had to deal with.

Codsworth, narrated by Codsworth (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Robotics Expert Perk)

Codsworth tried to keep serving his master faithfully, tried to heal the pain the events of Vault 111 left in the Sole Survivor's heart. In the end, he could not stomach his master's cruel actions any longer and pleaded with him to stop. What happened after went undocumented, but the Brotherhood's logistics division was grateful to the Sentinel for finding functioning Mr. Handy unit that could manage their tasks with ease.

Piper Wright, narrated by Piper Wright (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

Though happy to see the Institute gone, Piper didn't think the Brotherhood was that much better of a replacement. Piper Wright continued to publish the truth as much as she could, careful to avoid stepping on the Brotherhood's toes. Even she had to keep an eye over her shoulder as she typed, Piper would never stop hunting for the latest scoop if she could help it.

Nick Valentine, narrated by Nick Valentine (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Do not complete Long Time Coming)

Nick Valentine severed ties with the Sole Survivor following the Institute's destruction. Though he had no love for the eggheads who made him, even he knew that the Brotherhood had gone too far. With a head weighed down with another man's life, Nick Valentine continued his investigations, till one night he got too close to a Brotherhood patrol route. Without the Sentinel's protection, Nick was just another target. In the end, the world was short one more synth and one more good man.

Deacon, narrated by Deacon (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

Deacon was among those killed during the Brotherhood's raid on the Old North Church. He watched as the Railroad, everything they worked towards, was destroyed once again. Only this time, he knew there was no coming back, this was the end. It was the Sole Survivor, Agent Bullseye himself, who gunned down the leadership. Even as Deacon laid dying on the floor of the crypt, he couldn't help but think; 'you can't trust everyone'.

Preston Garvey, narrated by Preston Garvey (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

The death of the Minutemen was a harsh blow to Preston, one only worsened by the actions of the Brotherhood during the war with the Institute. He sank deeper and deeper into despair until one day, he put the barrel of his musket to his chin. Preston Garvey died and was buried in Sanctuary, the last remnant of the old Commonwealth, before the Brotherhood came and changed everything.

X6-88, narrated by X6-88 (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

As one of the few Coursers to survive the Institute's destruction. X6-88 took it upon himself to try and avenge his home. Gathering a following of surviving Gens 1 and 2 Synths, X6 attempted to assassinate the Sentinel. In the end, he failed, and the older synths were destroyed. X6-88 was captured alive by the Brotherhood and brought back to the Prydwen for study, before eventually perishing under the knife.

Cait, narrated by Cait (Brotherhood Ending, Do not take Cait as a companion)

Cait remained the undefeated champion of the Combat Zone, beating raider heads in while the gang members cheered her on. During one bout, she collapsed to the floor, coughing and puking blood. With her addictions finally catching up with her, Cait died on the bloodied floor of the Combat Zone, the poison she pumped in her blood getting her before any raider could.

Curie, narrated by Curie (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Robotics Expert Perk)

When discovered by the Sole Survivor in the bowels of Vault 81, Curie at first thought her luck had turned around. Her hopes were soon dashed, however. After taking the cure, the Sole Survivor dismantled Curie and took her data stores for himself, her vast medical knowledge sure to prove invaluable to the Brotherhood.

Hancock, narrated by John Hancock (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

Even with the Institute blown sky high, Hancock knew the Brotherhood wasn't about to pack it up and march home. The mayor did his best to prep Goodneighbor for a siege for a while the city held against the Brotherhood's forces as they purged the Boston ruins. In the end, the neighborhood fell, and Hancock was gunned down inside the Old State House. His dying words? 'Of the People, For the People'.

MacCready, narrated by Robert MacCready (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, do not complete Long Road Ahead)

MacCready was left forgotten as the Sole Survivor waged war on the Commonwealth. Eventually, desperation drove him to once more attempt to retrieve the cure from Med-Tek. He wasn't heard from again.

Strong, narrated by Strong (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, kill Strong)

Strong was killed by the Survivor on top of Trinity Tower, just another worthless mutant to the Steel Brotherhood. The Milk of Human Kindness didn't extend to Super Mutants and the Sole Survivor didn't have much of it left in him anyway.

Diamond City, narrated by Piper Wright (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

With the Institute's surviving synths scattered and the imposter McDonough exposed, Diamond City was left confused and frightened. The Brotherhood decided that the city council was incapable of managing the settlement and occupied the city. With Brotherhood soldiers keeping watch, the city was the safest it had ever been, but the knights' heavy-handed approach still left the Great Green Jewel just as fearful and paranoid as they had been with the Institute.

Goodneighbor, narrated by Hancock (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

It goes without saying that Goodneighbor didn't take kindly to the Brotherhood throwing its weight around. When Maxson and his sentinel set their sights on the Boston ruins, the 'ol neighborhood did its best to remain independent. Violence was too common though, and after one shoot out too many, the city rebelled. In the end, Goodneighbor fell to the Brotherhood and most of the drifters, especially the ghouls left, hoping to find somewhere that truly was for the people.

Bunker Hill, narrated by Kessler (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

Following the battle and the destruction of both the Institute and the Railroad, the Brotherhood occupied Bunker Hill for the foreseeable future, hoping to catch any surviving agents or synths who were unaware of the Railroad's demise. This was both a blessing and curse for the caravanners. The Brotherhood's soldiers kept the Hill safe from raiders, but regularly stopped and harassed merchants for any valuable technology they could find.

Vault 81, narrated by Overseer McNamara (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

Vault 81 tried to remain neutral during the Brotherhood's crusade throughout the Commonwealth, but in the end, they too fell to the Sentinel. For centuries, they acted as though the world never ended, keeping the American dream alive. Now, the reality of life in Pre-War America, a life filled with fear and uncertainty under a ruthless military machine, made it clear they had lived a lie.

Covenant, narrated by Dr. Chambers (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Let Dr. Chambers continue her work)

Covenant continued to thrive following the Sole Survivor's visit and they celebrated the Institute's destruction. While the rest of the Commonwealth teemed with uncertainty, Covenant eagerly and fervidly supported the Brotherhood's crusade.

Sanctuary, narrated by Sturges (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

Sanctuary grew and prospered in its quite corner of the Commonwealth, left virtually undisturbed by the Brotherhood as the years passed. It might have only due to the will of the Sentinel that Vault 111, a place that ordinarily would've been a prime target of investigation for the Brotherhood, was left silent.

The Raiders, narrated by Bosco (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill all named raider bosses)

The Raider gangs of the Commonwealth were no match for the technological and military might of the Brotherhood of Steel. With Bosco and his lieutenants dead, the raider empire he had grown within the Boston ruins crumbled. Over time, the gangs would be driven further and further back from the Commonwealth. To Raiders, the only rule of the world is might makes right, and no one was mightier than the Sentinel.

The Gunners, narrated by Captain Wes (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Captain Wes)

The Gunners had finally met their match in the Brotherhood. Outnumbered and outgunned, the mercenaries stood no chance against the Sentinel and his soldiers and one by one, each of their outposts was gunned down. Captain Wes was killed by the Sole Survivor himself, shot down in his own HQ. Those that survived the onslaught fled the Commonwealth for greener pastures, leaving behind treasure troves of technology and supplies for the Brotherhood to collect.

Quincy, narrated by Clint (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Clint)

With the death of the traitor Clint and his lieutenants, the Gunners in Quincy were easy pickings for the Brotherhood. The town was swiftly claimed and the Gunners within killed. In the end, Clint's might makes right worldview, the same worldview that led to his betrayal of the Minutemen, proved to be his undoing.

The Forged, narrated by Slag (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Slag)

After Slag's death, the Forged fell into infighting and disarray, joining the already chaotic raider wars scattered throughout the Commonwealth. What remnants were left following their leader's death were soon wiped out by the Brotherhood, to who Saugus Ironworks made too valuable a target not to secure. In the following years, the forges of Saugus would continue to bellow, manned by scribes and knights instead of raiders and pumping out new materials for the Brotherhood of Steel's crusade.

The U.S.S Constitution, narrated by Captain Ironsides (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Side with the Scavengers)

Knowing that the bounty aboard the U.S.S Constitution was too valuable to be left in the hands of delusional robots, the Sole Survive sided with the honorless scavengers. Laying siege to the ship, the robotic crew was destroyed, and their wealth stolen by the sorry braggarts. When the putrid vultures obeyed their cowardly natures and turned on the Sole Survivor, he bested them as well. The U.S.S Constitution and all its riches were now property of the Brotherhood of Steel.

The Cabot Family, narrated by Jack Cabot (Minutemen Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Lorenzo)

With the death of Lorenzo the Cabot family could run from death no longer. The long years finally caught up to them, as a new day broke over the Commonwealth. Thankfully, they didn't live long enough to see the Sentinel's rise to power and the subjugation of the Commonwealth under the rule of the Brotherhood of Steel.

The Yangtze-31, narrated by Captain Zhao (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Zhao)

Captain Zhao died at the hands of the man whose life he had destroyed 200 years ago. The Sole Survivor took great pleasure in killing the ghoul and claimed the Yangtze for the Brotherhood. Rumors would begin to spread of a monster clad in steel that haunted the shores of the Commonwealth, bearing the Brotherhood's sigil.

Dr. Li, narrated by Madison Li (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma)

With great reluctance, Madison Li continued to work alongside the Brotherhood as a Scribe. The destruction of the Institute and the massive loss of life and knowledge sickened her, and she isolated herself away from her so-called 'peers'. An outcast among them, she nevertheless continued to serve, researching technologies and knowledge that the war-mongering Brotherhood would never seek to adopt.

Kent Connolly (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Do not complete the Silver Shroud)

Kent continued to host the Silver Shroud Radio show from his apartment in Goodneighbor. He fell into despair, though, when the Brotherhood began subjugating the Commonwealth. When the 'neighborhood fell to them, he took his own life. Heroes can see themselves become villains if left unchecked and the Sole Survivor stopped being a hero 200 years ago.

Pickman, narrated by Pickman (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Pickman, Bloody Mess Perk)

Pickman perished within the depths of his gallery, killed by the Sole Survivor. It was a fitting death, one butcher slain by a kindred spirit. The mad artist died with a smile on his lips, knowing that the raiders he so despised would soon face something much, much worse than what he was. His one regret? Not being able to see the Sole Survivor's magnum opus.

Dr. Virgil, narrated by Brian Virgil (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Keep Virgil's cure, Kill Virgil)

For the crimes he committed while working for the Institute, the Brotherhood of Steel demanded the death of Brian Virgil and the Sole Survivor complied. Virgil died within the cave, the Glowing Sea keeping away anyone who might have helped him. His betrayer kept the cure that he had waited on for so many years, delivering it into the Brotherhood's hands so that it might one day be used to end the Super Mutant menace forever.

Scribe Haylen, narrated by Scribe Haylen (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Kill Danse during Blind Betrayal)

Scribe Haylen was devastated by Danse's death and the Sole Survival's betrayal. Her faith in the Brotherhood was irreversibly shaken and as time went on, found herself more and more afraid of the new, brutal direction it was taking. Eventually, Haylen attempted to desert her post, but was hunted down by the Sentinel, just like Danse before her. Scribe Haylen was killed by the Sole Survivor, one more voice of reason silenced by the Sentinel's overwhelming dogma.

Shaun, narrated by Shaun (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Abandon Shaun)

When presented with a synthetic copy of the son he lost, the Sole Survivor did not see a second chance at fatherhood. Instead, all he saw was one final twisted jab by the Institute to mock him. He left the…thing that wore his son's face to burn with the rest of the Institute. With Shaun's death, so to did any remaining humanity die in the Sentinel's heart as well.

Kellogg, narrated by Conrad Kellogg (Brotherhood Ending, Bad Karma, Bloody Mess Perk)

Kellogg died in the bowels of Fort Hagen, his mutilated corpse left to rot by the man whose life he had destroyed. He never thought he'd ever hear of the Brotherhood again after leaving New California, but then again, he never thought he'd see the Sole Survivor again either The merc had no idea what he had created in that Vault and soon the whole Commonwealth would know just what the Sole Survivor was capable of.

Closing Narration, narrated by Ron Perlman

So ends the story of the Sole Survivor, another chapter in the annals of the history of humanity. But the tale of humanity will never come to a close, it is the eternal struggle, a conflict with no prize, a war without end. And war…war never changes.

AN: Well, that's that then. Every major faction in the vanilla game given a (hopefully) satisfying and in-character ending. That should be it, then. Shouldn't it? I'll be editing the Bestiary, tidying things up, adding new things; just making it nicer, you know. So be sure to check that out when you get the chance. For right now, though? Well, that's all folks, take care. - Bones
