Lloyd POV: It's been a week since I learned about Kai's condition and I can't shake the feeling that I get every time I see the signs of seizure aftermaths. I tried to help him whenever that happened, but he just went to his room to sleep instead. I couldn't help but feel useless so I did some research, and it was enlightening.
Some of it I really didn't understand, but some of the triggers are lack of sleep and flashing lights. And after a seizure one can experience confusion, fatigue, and bad headaches. With other things on the list.
Which makes sense why he had one after the drone went past us, and now that I think about it Kai was always the first to avert his eyes whenever there was an explosion or something like that, and always went to bed immediately after a long fight or mission. And there were times where he seemed to have a bad headache and had to relax instead of train. But it didn't make me feel much better, mostly because it took a seizure for me to realize he had a condition.
I was sitting at the table, messing with my food as we were all eating breakfast. Cole and Jay were wolfing down their plates as Kai and Nya were talking with Zane about something. But I couldn't eat as I was thinking about him having one right now.
Finally he got up and cleaned up after himself and said, "I'll be in my room if you need me."
"Alright." Nya said, taking a bite.
I watched him leave and sighed quietly as I poked my waffles. Is this feeling ever gonna go away?
Nya POV: I've been watching Lloyd for the past couple of days because he's been acting weird. He barely ate when we were all together and was constantly staring off in the distance. And it seemed like he was researching something often on Zane's space laptop.
Even today he was just playing with his food and sighing after a while. But I had no clue since nothing major has happened recently. He still wasn't eating and that definitely needs to change. We were all cleaning up and he wasn't really paying attention.
I glanced at him as he fumbled with a knife. I quickly grabbed it before he dropped it and he said, "Thanks."
"Yeah, but are you okay?" I said, putting it down.
"I'm fine. It didn't cut myself." But I just glared at him.
"I'm not talking about that. You seem to be distracted by something." I said, making him freeze.
"I'm… not distracted. I'm just thinking about things." he said, smiling nervously.
"Really?" I asked very sarcastically. I put down the dishes I was holding and crossing my arms at him.
But he didn't say anything. He just laughed nervously and won't meet my eyes. That only made me more suspicious of him, but I also didn't say anything. And now the others were curious and stopped what they were doing.
"Lloyd, you can trust us. You can tell us what's on your mind." I reassured him , but he just looked at me.
"...I can't." he said, sounding really nervous.
"What do you mean?" Zane asked, for all of us.
"Well… um… because I made a promise to not say anything…" he whispered, messing with his sleeve.
"Who did you promise?" I asked, but I already had an idea who.
He didn't say anything, but he was clearly thinking about what he was going to say. Finally he sighed and said, "I made a promise with Kai about something. But he really needs to talk to someone about it."
That made me worry a bit, given how he was acting. "Alright, then I'm going to talk to him." I said, walking to the door.
Lloyd stopped me and said, "Wait, before you go just please say that you forced me to say something." And I understand what he means. Kai takes promises very seriously.
"Of course." I responded, gently pulling away.
"Thanks. Now, if you don't mind me. I'm gonna go hide just in case." Then he quickly left and I just shook my head at him.
I soon followed and headed to his room. I knocked on the door and heard him say to come in. He was sitting on his bed reading a book, and he looked up when I closed the door.
"Hey, did you need something?" he asked, putting the book down.
"Yeah. I wanted to ask about the promise you made with Lloyd." I said, making him flinch. He started to look really nervous.
"It's nothing, just a little thing between us. It's no big deal." he answered, but he still looked nervous. And I know it isn't just 'a little thing.'
"Okay, are you going to tell me the truth now?" I asked, crossing my arms.
But he just looked away, clearly uncomfortable. I hate doing this but he has a really bad habit of keeping things to himself. And this is the only way I can get him to admit when something's bothering him. He still looked uncomfortable, but after a few minutes of us just standing there I saw his eyes glaze over and he looked confused.
I was about to say something when he stood up and tried to leave quickly. "Kai, what's wrong?" I asked, stopping him.
"I… need to." he sounded out of breath and panicked a little.
Then he jerked and started to fall. I caught him and set him down as he started twitching violently, making choking noises. He was having a seizure. Immediately I rolled him on his side and stabilized his head, but I felt tears in my eyes and it raged on. Then Zane walked in and was about to say something when he saw us. He rushed over and knelt down on his other side.
"What happened?" He asked, keeping his eyes on Kai.
"I don't know. We were talking and it just hit him." I answered. I didn't even bother to hide anything in my voice.
Finally, after a few minutes he stopped but he was still out of it. His breathing was shaky and I was concerned since he didn't wake up after a few minutes.
Zane quickly scanned him and whispered, "He's going to be okay, but we need to be careful. He'll most likely be confused once he regains consciousness."
I nodded, but I didn't take my eyes off of him. I'm pretty sure this is what Kai was trying to hide though I still can't understand what it is exactly yet. I talk to him once he's feeling better.
We both waited quietly until finally he slowly opened his eyes, which were dull. He groaned and moved to sit up. Zane and I helped him be careful given how shaky he still was.
"Take it easy Kai. How are you feeling?" Zane asked quietly.
"Dizzy…" he mumbled, placing a hand on his head.
"That's alright. Just take it easy, you had an episode so be careful." Zane explained
He was thinking about what he said, and suddenly he stood up, nearly falling over when he realized what happened.
"Kai, what's wrong?" I asked, standing up too and tried to grab his arms.
But he backed up and mumbled, "No, you can't know. This isn't happening." Now I was more confused.
"It's fine Kai, just please. Lay down for now. We'll worry about other things later." I tried to reason with him.
He was still shaky and he looked very panicky, but he nodded to me. Zane and I helped him get back into bed. He fell asleep almost as soon as he closed his eyes. I stared at him for a few moments then we both left.
"Zane, on your scan. Did you see anything that would have caused this?" I asked, hugging myself as we walked.
"There were a couple of things, but I want to double check a few things before I can confirm." That was concerning.
"What's… your best guess?" I was a little scared to ask, but he's brother and I needed to know.
He didn't immediately answer, but he said, "I believe that he might have epilepsy. However, I would have to double check to make sure I'm correct."
I froze and I felt a cold feeling rush through my whole body, but I didn't care. This changes everything.
