We go back 7-years in the Human Realm, night-time. At a Comic-Con, a bunch of kids with their parents walked out, murmuring, screaming and blowing up with excitement over the amazing time they had in the building with their parents. Walking out of the building was a 6-year-old Luke Noceda and a younger Camila Noceda.
Luke was shorter and little less spiky, he wore a plain blue t-shirt, olive combat shorts, his goggles around his neck and a blue witch's hat.
Camila isn't wearing glasses and her hair is longer at the time, also wearing a different outfit.
Young Luke was bursting with excitement.
Young Luke: THAT WAS AWESOME! I LOVE WITCH-WARRIOR AZURE!
Camila: Camila giggles at Luke's energy. Did you enjoy yourself tonight, mijo?
Young Luke: I had so much fun, mama! He does multiple motions. The way Azure swings his sword, blasts baddies with his staff, turns his friends in enemies, it's so cool!
Camila: I hope you enjoyed more than just Azure, Luke.
Young Luke: I did, I did, mama! Kingdom Hearts, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dragon Ball Z, I loved it all so much! I even got this! Luke brought out a t-shirt with a wolf on it. These are magical beasts called wolves and…I love them!
Camila: Camila drops to her knees, whispering to her son. Hey, do you want to know a fun fact about wolves, mijo. They're parents too. And if you mess with a mama wolf's babies… She wraps her arms around her son in a lock, playfully biting the air close to him, making him laugh. They'll bite you back.
Luke laughs more when his mother tickles him while teasingly growling before laughing with him.
Camila: Come on mijo, let's go home. It's almost your bedtime.
Young Luke: Luke groans. Aww! I hate bedtime, mom!
Camila: Sorry, carino, it's a school day tomorrow. You'll want to get up bright and early. Luke pouts but Camila keeps smiling. Hey, tell you what, if you don't complain and go to be on time, I'll take you to our favourite snack spot tomorrow. Luke widens his eyes as Camila slyly gets closer. I hear Chimichurri Sandwiches calling your name.
Young Luke: Using my one weakness against me…well-played mama. I get to choose the toppings, right?
Camila giggles, as that works every time on her son.
The two are now walking down an alleyway, a shortcut to their residence. The night was going so well. One of the best nights of Luke's life…until that was ruined when one moment, Luke bumped into someone's leg. He fell on his bottom, losing his hat and looking up to see a male figure that scared the hell out of him from his POV the moment he met his eyes. Nothing was said, just looking at this man frightened Luke enough to run off, whimpering in fear and hiding behind Camila's leg just as she ran up to him.
Camila: Mijo!? Are you okay!?
Before he could speak a gun is aimed right at them, causing Camila to gasp and Luke to yelp, hiding in terror.
Man: If you don't want me to blow your brains out…don't move.
Luke hugs onto Camila and he clutches her son, hard, providing as much comfort as possible and preparing to protect him…her only son.
Owl House Intro Music
As the portal gate opens and the camera zooms in on it. Luke opens his eyes to see his falling down, causing him to freak out before something zoomed past and caught him. Luke saw he was saved by Eda along with King, who smirked at the human boy as they flew to her house on her Palisman staff with Luke raising his fist in excitement.
The door where Hooty was opened as Luke steps outside now wearing goggles, twirling his Rebellion sword and struck a pose, aiming his Glyph Gun at the screen. Eda came out with her staff, sharing a grin with Luke. King popped up in front of them in a pose.
A Boiling Isle mural appears, three windows flipping to briefly reveal Gus, Willow, and Amity striking their own poses before burning away to show King commanding an army of stuffed toys, which all fall on him.
Luke rode on Eda's staff like a surfboard, zooming past Bonesborough, flying past Tinella Nosa, sharing a high-five with Gus, Willow being beside him with a plan releasing vines and evading guards that chase him down. Eda and King join in on the fun and they have blast taking to the skies…until they hang on for dear life as a massive monstrous worm-like monster, mouth wide open, lunges at them as they scream in horror.
Then the scene changes back to the Owl House, where it's night-time, and stars twinkle in the sky as the trio are on the roof and looking up into the sky, Eda holding her staff beside her, Luke holding Rebellion downward and King riding his shoulder. Luke opens a hand, sending a ball of light floating into the sky where it bursts to release a blinding flash.
The title card appears:
Owl House
Present Time
June 1st 2020 9:00AM
7-years later, in the Demon Realm, it's morning time and Luke, King and Eda are at the Owl House as usual. King is watching videos on Luke's phone while he makes a big discovery. Luke has just found another new glyph and it's on a flower. He uses the magnifying glass to get a closer look at it.
The glyph resembles a flower. Inside the spell circle is a small circle with a dot at its centre, near but not touching the bottom of the spell circle. There are two short lines stretching from the top of the smaller circle facing out at 45º angles. A triangle is roughly opposite the small circle, with one vertex facing the smaller circle. A line stretches from the triangle's tip to the circle. There is a horizontal line across the middle of the triangle.
Luke: Okay, 3rd time's the charm.
He perfectly drew the glyph on the paper and activates it. It glows green and a flower bloom from it, much to Luke's joy. He's successfully found his 6h Glyph.
Luke: Nailed it! My 6th glyph! Check it out, King: my glyph skills are blossoming! Get it?
King: You think that's impressive? Check this out! Two warriors battling to the death!
On the phone, two cats meow. One prepares to pounce on the other but falls on its back.
Luke: Uh…that's just two cats doing adorable stuff together. Luke looks at the open portal door, the source of King's Wi-Fi. Ah. I see we're getting enough Wi-Fi through the portal for cat videos.
King: Senseless violence. Yes! Fight! Kill! Rip each other apart! Death is your god!
Luke: I regret teaching you about the Internet.
King: Hah! What possible regrets could come from the Internet? Oh! Did you know that the Earth is actually flat?
Luke: Luke snatches his phone back. Yep, that's not right.
His phone vibrates and to his horror and surprise he sees that he's received a text from his mother, Camilla Noceda.
Camilla: "How's camp today, cariño? 3, Mamá."
Luke sighs; he hasn't told his mother the truth. She's still under the impression that her son is actually in that boring summer camp. She still knows nothing about the Demon Realm, Luke's adventures and the fact that he's become an actual witch warrior, something he's only dreamed of in fantasies. Luke hates lying to the woman who took her in and raised him as her own son but the last thing he wants to do is worry her so he gives truthful responses without giving any Demon Realm related details. Which is exactly what he's doing now:
Luke (text): "Going good. Gonna meet up with some friends today. 3 u back, Mama."
King: Ah, a truthful lie! Perfect response.
Luke: What else am I supposed to tell her? "Hey, Mom, not at camp actually! I'm in the demon realm training to become the ultimate witch-warrior! Also, did you know that demons and magic are real?" Just saying it out loud sounds crazy. And if she finds out it's all true, she'll kill me.
King: Nah, she'd be freaked out by our world anyway. So actually, by keeping the truth from her, you're doing her a favour! In fact, you're saving her from an emotional meltdown and literally dying from stress of worrying about you. I mean, if she were to find out where you've really been she'd actually, literally die from a heart attack.
Luke is rather surprised to hear King make such a wise, albeit dark point.
Luke: Huh. The demon on my shoulder makes a dark yet good point.
King: Always trust a shoulder demon!
He takes the phone back and Hooty opens the door.
Hooty: Hoot hoot, Luke! Time to fill up that darling little head of yours with... He regurgitates a stack of books onto the ground. Mm-hmm. Delicious knowledge!
Willow and Gus look in from the doorway, distressed.
Gus: Please hurry!
Willow: The more I look at him, the more uncomfortable I get.
Hooty: Hoot hoot!
He finger guns his friends, pets King's head and walks off.
Luke: Don't spend all day watching YouTube, 'kay furball?
King: I forge my own path!
On the phone screen, a fluffy black cat chases its tail. King snickers.
King: What a dum-dum.
He's distracted by his own tail wagging. He tries to catch it but flops on the couch after a second and he immediately loses interest.
King: Ugh. Who has the energy?
At Hexside, the halls are being decorated. The school is getting decked out with balloons made of abomination goop and other decorations. Luke, Gus, and Willow enter, the former looking amazed.
Luke: Whoa! What's up with the decorations? Is there some kind of party going on?
Willow: Oh yeah! I forgot you've never been here for the social event of the season.
Gus: Welcome to your first—
Suddenly, two masked health workers enter, rolling a stretcher, making siren noises.
Worker: Outta the way!
The workers surround a beast-keeping student with dark skin, blond hair that covers his eyes, and big, pointy ears similar to a bat. Skara looks on nearby.
Worker: Come with us immediately! Your disease—it's advancing!
They help him onto the stretcher.
Bat Boy: Is there a cure, doc?
Worker: Only one.…Finding the perfect date to Grom!
Needless to say, Luke is dumbfounded.
Luke: Uh…what?
Bat Boy: If that's the cure...then… A second later he's holding out a beating heart with "GROM?" written on it in red ink. Skara, will you go to Grom with me?
Skara: Skara screams with joy and hugs him. Of course, I will, or whatever!
The onlooking students and teachers cheer, and Luke finally notices the large banner that reads "GROM".
Luke: You guys have a creepy version of human prom on the Boiling Isles? Awesome! You know, I've been to prom twice in my realm. The first time I got kicked out because I ended up pretty much blowing out everyone's ear drums with my guitar playing.
(Flashback)
Luke is on stage wearing a suit with a blue axe plugged into some large speakers much to the surprise of the audience. He got out his guitar pick and strums his guitar as hard as possible, blasting out a sound so loud, the school windows shatter and the students all scream.
(End of Flashback)
Luke rubs the back of his head sheepishly from remembering that little incident.
Luke: Yeah…not one of my finest moments.
Willow: You play guitar, Luke?
Luke: It's a bit of a hobby of mine. I love rock music. I play guitar among a couple of other instruments every day back in my world.
Willow: Wow. I didn't know.
Luke: Meh. It's no big deal. I never really brought it up.
Gus: What about the second time? You get kicked out of that too?
Luke: No. I stuck around for the whole thing in my second prom, but I couldn't get a date since I wasn't all that popular in my human school. But maybe things can be different here. Do they choose some sort of Grom King? Luke thumbs himself. If they do then sign me up, baby!
Gus and Willow cringe at that last part as there's more to it than Luke realizes.
Willow: That's…uh…not something people usually sign up for.
Luke: What? Why wouldn't anyone sign up to be Prom…er…Grom royalty?
Amity enters from behind, looking down at the stack of books and a note she is carrying and unknowingly bumps into Luke. Both drop down with a grunt.
Amity: Watch it, nitwit! She changes her attitude seeing she bumped into Luke. Oh. Hi, Luke… and co. Willow and Gus wave. Sorry about that.
Luke: No prob, let me help you, Ams!
He helps Amity pick up her books and hands her the little pink note that she dropped.
Luke: You dropped your note too. Amity snatches it away, taking Luke aback. Whoa! Someone's on edge. You got some quick grabbers.
Amity: It's just, it's…private.
The speaker screeches on. Everyone looks at it and converse, having waited for this moment.
Principal Bump: Attention Hexside students. This is your principal speaking.
Gus: Oh, man, this is it!
Willow: He's announcing who'll be this year's Grom royalty.
Luke: Right now? But isn't he supposed to-?
Amity: Shh!
Everyone looks on, looking very anxious.
Principal Bump: As you're all aware Grom is tonight. Normally one student is selected to be Grom royalty, but this year is special, for two students have been selected this time.
Everyone gasps in surprise and disbelief.
Gus: Two students!?
Willow: That's never happened before!?
Luke and Amity exchange equally surprised looks as Bump continues speaking.
Principal: Yes, you heard, right. Two students have been chosen for the honour of Grom Royalty. These two bright and young prodigies are tied together as our foremost top students of Hexside. The choice was difficult but, in the end, the PCA have decided to give both these gifted students the honour. The students all murmur, wondering who the two candidates are. This year, I have the privilege to bestow our highest Grom honour to our first candidate…Luke Noceda! Our Grom King!
Amity, Willow and Gus all gasp in a combination of disbelief and horror, looking to a surprised Luke who processed what he just heard. He's just been given the honour of being Grom King. He knew he'd become popular, but he had no idea he had already become top student in the short time he's attended Hexside. Oblivious to the looks everyone is giving him, Luke raises his fists in celebration.
Luke: Woo-hoo! Hell yeah! I'm King baby! Wow, I didn't even need to audition! I guess I'm more popular than I thought, am I right, amigos?
Luke becomes confused when he notices the looks his friends are giving him. And not just them, all the students in their vicinity, including Viney, Jerbo, Barcus and others stare at Luke wincing, wiping their sweat in relief or pitying Luke.
Student 1: I can't believe it.
Student 2: Luke's Grom King?
Student 3: Oh man, I feel sorry for him.
Luke: Uh…guys…why are you staring at me like I'm going to die?
Amity: It's…funny you should say that?
Gus: Luke, do you even know what being Grom King means?
Luke: Uh…I assume it means I'm gonna be taken up to the stage, be given a crown and make some speech while adoring fans chant my name. That's…how it goes here, right?
Willow: Oh, Titan. You really don't know, do you?
Amity: Luke. This is a HUGE deal! You don't know what you're about to get into.
Luke: What are you talking about? Can someone explain to me what Grom actually is!? Why's everyone freaking out over this!?
Principal Bump continues speaking.
Bump: Our Grom King will be accompanied by his Queen. Our second candidate is none other than…Amity Blight! Our Grom Queen!
Willow, Luke, and Gus gasps and turn to Amity, who clutches her books with her mouth agape in disbelief. Other students' gasps equally stunned. This year, Grom has two students given Grom Royalty, Luke Noceda and Amity Blight.
The youngest Blight herself is looking quite uneasy which Luke notices.
Luke: Ams…are you okay? Amity says nothing, running off in fear and panic. Amity, wait!?
Willow: Willow holds his shoulder. You might want to give her some space. Being Grom Queen is a tough job. Even for Amity. And it'll be tough for you too, Luke. This may be your toughest fight yet?
Luke: Fight?
Luke is confused, what's so difficult about being Grom King or Queen? Is it a Boiling Isle thing? Is there something about this event he really doesn't know that's got everyone so freaked out.
At the gym students are setting up decorations while Principal Bump oversees. The Snaggleback is hanging from the ceiling by a rope and spinning and clearly, he is not enjoying it.
Principal Bump: Very good. Lower the streamers, fill the punch bowl, and—how's my disco ball?
Snaggleback: Nauseous.
Principal Bump: Great. Just keep it up for 36 more hours.
Principal Bump leaves the gym just as Luke enters, admiring the area where Grom will take place.
Luke: Huh. So, this is where Grom's happening. I made a good impression for my debut as a student. So, now, I'm really gonna rock the house as King. This is gonna be epic! Huh?
He sees a red button on a black-and-red pedestal with insect legs on the bottom.
Luke: Wonder what that's for? I'm probably not allowed to touch it. He grins mischievously. But then again, when have I ever cared about following the rules.
He pushes the button and is caught off guard when the ground rumbles and the floor opens to reveal an underground arena beneath the gym, connected by a ramp.
Luke: Whoa! A battle arena!
Two walls of weapons come up from the floor on either side of Luke much to his surprise.
Luke: Weapons. Huh. I guess for dance parties in the Demon Realm they like to use medieval torture theme. Meh, sounds natural for this world, who am I to judge.
Amity: They're not for decoration.
Luke looks to see Amity is sitting at the top of the bleachers, alone and nervous. She stands up and starts to make her way down to her crush.
Amity: This arena's where we'll make our debut as Grom King and Queen.
Luke: Cool. So, how come you're not excited? I'm stoked to be Grom King.
Amity: Amity takes a sword. If you knew what Grom was all about, you wouldn't be. This isn't just some dance party.
They look to see in the arena, black goop rumbles and growls, freaking Luke out a little.
Luke: Uh…did you see that? What the hell was that?
Amity: Not what, "who". That's Grom. Short for Grometheus, the Fear-Bringer. It's a monster that lives under the school.
Luke: Wait. Grom isn't the name of just some dance party? It's also the name of a monster.
Amity: That's right.
She casts a spell that shows a tapestry about Grom's backstory. It transforms into multiple huge forms that a student defeats with a sword.
Amity: Every year it tries to break out and a student had to defeat it before it invades the town.
The scene changes to a celebration of people dancing together.
Amity: Ever the optimist, Bump holds a party and calls it tradition.
The tapestry fades back to the gym.
Amity: The worst thing is that Grom can read minds and shape-shift into your worst fear. She looks at her scared reflection in the sword. And mine…is very embarrassing.
She returns the sword. Luke understands now. From his experience Amity has shown herself to be very tough on the inside and outside but more recently she's shown to have some insecurities that she can't seem to overcome. It's no mystery she isn't very keen to be forced to face her greatest fears.
Amity: To be honest, I'm a little surprised you were chosen. I knew I'd be chosen because I'm top student. She smiles a little at Luke. But I guess you've made a really big name for yourself here at Hexside. Big enough to convince the PCA to let two students fight Grom. I had no idea you and I were tied together as top students.
Luke: Hey, I'm just as surprised as you are. He rests his hands behind head. Though, then again, I am unbelievably awesome. Amity giggles a little and two get serious again. So…let me get this straight. The entire fate of the Boiling Isles rests on the two of us beating a monster made out of nightmares. And if we lose and possibly get killed, that things going to turn the Boiling Isles into actual living hell hole.
Amity: That's…pretty much accurate. She smiles in admiration. But knowing you, you'll probably beat Grom easily all by yourself. I mean…you're so brave and fearless. You've gone face-to-face with so many monsters and you were never scared, one bit. I can't imagine anything that could ever scare you.
Luke cringes. As willing as he is to face Grom, there is one fear in the back of his mind that he's locked away for a long time. A figure in his past that still haunts him to this day and drove him to finally learn self-defence.
Luke: I wouldn't exactly call myself fearless, Amity.
Amity's expression contorts with worry when she notices Luke's hand shaking a little as he looks away.
Amity: Luke?
She becomes surprised when he looks up giving a face of determination and eyes of fire as Amity felt the air around Luke change.
Luke: But I'm not afraid. If there's anything I learned while growing up, it's that I can't let my fears own me. He thumbs himself with a confident grin. I'll face Grom tonight and if it wants to try and scare me, then I say bring it on! I don't scare so easily and I'm gonna make sure this freak never sees the outside of its cell.
Amity blushes from hearing Luke talk so confidently. From her perspective, it's so amazing listening to Luke being so brave that he's more than willing to face Grom. It's so alluring to her and the more she hears Luke speak, the more admiration she gains for him and the more she secretly falls for him. She smiles sweetly.
Amity: Wow, Luke… you really are amazing… She frowns, worrying Luke. Unlike me…
Luke: Amity?
Amity: Oh! Sorry, I was just thinking…about us… She blushes. Fighting Grom! Tonight.
Luke: Luke places a hand on her shoulder. Hey, don't worry, Ams. It'll be fine. We can beat this thing together. I mean, we've fought together before, haven't we? And we made a pretty good team.
Amity: Amity smiles again. Yeah, we sure did.
Luke: Don't worry. We're gonna become this nightmare monster's worst nightmare. Amity chuckles at the joke. And if worse comes to worse, I'll protect you. You can count on me, Ams.
Amity: Amity clutches her hands together, touched as she looks down. Thank you, Luke. Thats…really sweet. Um…listen, there's something I need to speak to Principal Bump about. Maybe we could meet after later to discuss this more.
Luke: Sure, I'm game. I'll see you after school.
Amity: Thanks.
Amity takes her leave, waving Luke off and he returns but once she's out of sight, Luke shows his concern for his friend, knowing something is really bugging her.
Snaggleback: Put down a tarp, I'm gonna puke!
Luke hurries out, not wanting to see anything disgusting.
After school ends, Luke is back in the Owl House, walking into Eda's room.
Luke: Luke the Human in the Owl House!
Eda: Poking noises are heard. Ow!
Luke: Luke enters. Guys?
He sees Eda in a brown tuxedo with King standing on a stack of books, wearing a green apron.
Eda: Careful with those pins.
King: Why am I doing this? I don't even wear clothes!
Luke: Hey, sweet duds, Owl Lady! What's the haps? Going on a hot date tonight?
Eda: He sits on Eda's nest as she snorts and laughs. Not tonight, kiddo. I'm chaperoning Grom tonight. So, I have to look sharp.
King: And Gus asked me to co-emcee the fight!
King holds up a poster of him and Gus, standing back-to-back in sunglasses, Gus holding a microphone.
King: We're going to turn this blood-bath into a fun-bath!
Eda: Ooh! Have they announced the victims yet? A little birdie told me, the PCA had decided to send two students to battle Grom since both are top students.
Luke: You heard right, Teach. One of them is Amity. She's kinda freaking out though.
Eda: Who wouldn't? Anyone would freak out if they had to be forced to face their biggest fear.
King: Who's the second victim?
Luke: Luke thumbs himself. You're looking at him.
Eda and King stood silent for a moment until they burst out into hysterical laughter.
Luke: What!? What's so funny!?
King: A great joke, Luke!
Eda: Seriously, who is it?
They continue laughing until they saw the seriously stern gaze Luke was giving them, causing them to falter until they fully stop.
King: Oh. You're serious.
Luke: Yes, I'm serious dumbasses! I've been selected to be Grom King with Amity! And we're gonna crush Grom tonight!
King: King panics, shaking Eda by her shoulder. What!? No, no, no, no! Eda, say something! Talk Luke out of this!
Eda: Eda pushes him off then looks to Luke. Listen kid, I know you're tough and you've become a great warrior with your martial arts, swordfighting and human magic. You've made quite a rep for yourself in the Boiling Isles, but Grom is whole other level. She crosses her arms. You're strong, there's no denying that. And it's noble that you're willing to do this, but Grom is a little above your paygrade. You're a human.
Luke: What's that supposed to mean?
Eda: It means, well you know, you're…fragile.
Luke, red with anger, gets up and marches towards Eda, outraged to hear they think he can't handle this considering he's faced plenty of monsters, fought skilfully with his sword and guns and mastered 6 powerful glyph spells. He shouts in her face, causing her to recoil a little.
Luke: Fragile? FRAGILE!? Excuse you! Maybe old ladies like YOU are fragile…
Eda: Okay, one, I'm not that old. And two, that was just offensive.
Luke: But I'm not! I'm not just a human, I'm a man! And I'm not scared of anything! In case you've forgotten I've defeated a bunch of monsters ever since I came to this crazy world. I've mastered 6 glyphs. Rebellion and my Glyph Guns have never failed me! Us humans can do anything just as good as any witches or demons! I'm not scared of anything, you got that! US HUMANS DON'T NEED MAGIC TO BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF WITCHES OR DEMONS! WE HAVE OUR OWN WAY FIGHTING, SO DON'T GO CALLING US SOFT!
Eda and King recoil in fear from Luke's passionate speech, the witch holding her hands up and the demon hiding behind her as Luke grits his teeth with fire in his eyes.
Eda: Okay, okay, jeez! I get it! Humans are tough!
Luke: That's what I like to hear. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to prepare for battle.
Luke proceeds to leave and Eda deadpans.
Eda: There's a horrifying spider in your hair.
Luke: Nice try, Eda. But I'm not that dumb.
Eda: No, seriously. There's a spider on the back of your hair, right now.
Luke reaches the back of his hair and pulls out what is in fact a horrifying spider that was in his hair.
Luke: This has to be the ugliest thing I've seen since I came here. Present company who can change into a grotesque monster excluded.
Eda: Very funny.
Luke crushes the spider in his grip and tosses it away before walking out.
Luke: Like I said. I'm not soft.
He slams the door as he leaves.
King: Luke scares me sometimes.
Eda: That he does. I shudder to think what a fully grown adult human could do if they were a fighter like him.
King: Yeah, though, some of the things he does isn't something a normal human is even supposed to do. Jumping 10-feet off the ground, swinging around a sword like he does, doing magic and showing himself to be freakishly strong and agile.
Eda: Well, there's that too.
Eda looks to the door Luke left through, thinking again about a certain thought she's had about him. Clearly, Luke isn't a normal human. No human should be able to do the supernatural feats King just listed that Luke has pulled off in every battle. And whenever Eda looks at his eyes, she's reminded of someone, wondering if he and Luke are connected somehow.
King: Maybe you were too hard on him. He's saved you from multiple monsters, remember? And we've seen how amazing he's gotten wielding Rebellion. He's even made two guns which he combines with his glyphs. Plus, he defeated Warden Wrath, Adegast, a Greater Basilisk and A Slitherbeast. He's made quite a name for himself at Hexside. Maybe he does have what it takes to beat Grom.
Eda: As impressive as Luke's accomplishments are, the things he's faced are nothing compared to Grom. Facing Grom means facing your worst fear, King. And I don't think Luke knows what that means yet.
Eda looks at herself in the mirror, pauses before looking back to King.
Eda: Do you think I could pull off red eyeshadow?
King: Girl, you can pull off anything! Up top! They share a high-five. We're style geniuses!
In the forest, Luke is angrily tearing through the bushes with a long stick, still miffed over being called fragile.
Luke: "Fragile". Me, fragile!? Yeah, right! Eda doesn't know me! I'm brave! I'm a bad boy! I'm a man! I'm not scared of anything! Suddenly, Luke hears footsteps nearby. Huh? Who's there. No response. Ominous footsteps, creepy forests, meh, not surprising. I'm so used to that by now. Luke goes in the direction of the sound with his stick ready. When he sees a figure, he attacks. ATTACK!
He lunges forward with a battle cry and smacks a female figure, not a monster. She cries out and falls on her back, splashing some mud. Luke gasps, pulling out a light glyph, activating it immediately and holding it up to reveal Amity in the mud.
Luke: Amity! Oh, man! I'm so sorry! I didn't know that was you!
He tries to help Amity up, though the witch slips in the mud.
Amity: And here I thought this day...
Luke pulls Amity up and they find themselves staring at each other face to face for a second. Amity sits down on a tree stump.
Amity: ...couldn't get any worse.
Luke slaps an ice glyph on the mud, causing a pillar to rise up for him to sit on.
Luke: So…you wanna talk strategy on how we're gonna beat Grom?
Amity: Um…that's not exactly what I came to talk to you about. There's…something I want to confess to you?
Luke: Confess? Luke worries seeing the nervous look in Amity's expression. Amity, is something wrong?
Amity: I…I…I don't think I can do this.
Luke: Do what?
Amity: Be Grom Queen. I…I don't think I can face Grom.
Amity sees Luke widens his eyes upon hearing this and panics, recoiling.
Luke: You…don't want to fight Grom with me?
Amity: I'm sorry! I-I-I know you think I'm abandoning you, but please understand, I-
Luke: Luke held his hands up. Whoa, whoa! Amity, cool it! I never said anything like that! So, you don't want to fight Grom. What's the big deal?
Amity: That is the big deal. I…I just can't do it Luke. I'm not ready. Amity looks away in shame, clutching her cowl. Facing Grom feels so huge. And my biggest fears…one of them is so terrifying and the other is so embarrassing. Amity clutches in on herself, her voice breaking; close to crying. I…I can't face them, Luke. I'm not ready. I'm sorry, I know you feel I'm abandoning you, but I just can't do it. It's all too much. I-
Luke: Amity, Amity, I get it. So, you don't think you can face, Grom. That's fine. If it worries you so much, then why don't you tell Principal Bump you want out of this death match biz? Unless talking to Bump is your greatest fear.
Amity: Amity chuckles, despite the fear and guilt she's feeling. No. Though I won't lie I used to be scared of talking to him. She frowns. The thing is I've already spoken to Bump about this. And he says I can only withdraw if you're okay with it.
Luke: Luke beams. Is that all? Then let's go to Bump together. I'll explain to him that I'll fight Grom on my own.
Amity recoils in surprise. She thought Luke would be upset with leaving him to fight alone but he's surprisingly okay with it, even willing to help her get out of being Grom Royalty.
Amity: Luke, are…are you sure? You'd really do that?
Luke: Of course. Luke takes Amity's hand. It's okay you're afraid to face, Grom. After what you told me about it, I get why? If you're not ready for this, that's fine. I can handle Grom on my own, Ams, don't worry about me.
Amity blushes as Luke holds her hand, then smiles gratefully at his understanding.
Amity: Thank you, Luke. I…honestly don't know what to say. How can you be so brave and at the same time, so kind?
Luke: Hmm…I wouldn't say I'm that kind. I've just been raised by some really good people.
Amity smiles wider, the frowns again. She pulls her hand away looking down in shame.
Amity: I'm really, sorry, Luke. I should be facing Grom with you but instead I'm abandoning you to fight on your own all because I'm scared. I'm a coward.
Luke: Hey, don't go saying stuff like that. He holds Amity's shoulder. I said it's okay, so quit apologising already. There's nothing wrong with being scared. Everyone's scared of something. But we can't let that fear control us. And I know one day you'll be able to face your fears, Ams. You're tougher than you think. Here's a little advice that's always stuck with me since I was a kid: don't let your fears own you.
Amity: Amity takes time to process his words. I…can't exactly say I understand how to do that. But I hope to…someday. She smiles. Thanks, Luke. In the meanwhile, even though I can't face Grom with you, I can at least help you get ready for it.
Luke: That'd swell! I could use the help. He holds both her shoulders. And don't worry about me, Ams. I'll be fine out there. I don't care what kind of monster Grom is, I'll kick its ass for the both of us. Luke thumbs himself. I'm gonna show this thing what it means to face the ultimate witch-warrior. I shall be your fearless champion.
Luke got up, raising his fist in determination. Then another gold spider crawls onto his face but he grabs it and crushes it in his grip like with the other one, dropping it on the mud and proudly crossing his arms.
Luke: Like I said. Fearless champion.
He casually kicks the spider away and Amity smiles with hope at Luke's confidence, feeling better.
Later, in the morning Luke is in his room rummaging through a chest of his clothes and costume. He takes out his blue guitar axe which he beams at.
Luke: Hello, old friend. I almost forgot I brought you with me.
He sets his axe down, then pulls out a ninja and a blue hedgehog costume, struggling to choose between them.
His phone buzzes and he picks it up to see a text from his mother:
Camilla: "Mijo! Visiting our fav after school snack spot!"
Then is a selfie of Camila holding a sandwich outside of a store with a sign reading "Chimichurri Sandwiches!"
Camilla: "Miss you BEBE! XO"
Luke looks at the sandwich longingly, licking his lips a little.
Luke: Oh man…I'd do anything to have that sandwich right now.
Luke begins texting back.
Luke (Text): "Please, don't tease me. You're making me crave them. Miss you too Mama. XO"
Hooty enters and smooshes his face against his.
Hooty: Oh, Luke! You have a guest!
Luke: Luke swats him away. Dude, get off me! Ever heard of personal space!?
Hooty retreats out the window and Luke sees the door open to reveal amity.
Luke: Amity!
Amity enters through the door, picking feathers out of her hair. Obviously, Hooty gave her an unpleasant welcome.
Amity: If that bird-tube ever talks to me again, I'm going to destroy it. You ready to train?
Luke: In a moment, I'm figuring out what to wear for Grom. I'm thinking either a badass ninja with a dark side or a way past cool hedgehog costume. We can wear Halloween costumes for Grom, right?
Amity: Luke, you need to take this seriously. And no, we can't wear Halloween costumes to Grom.
Luke: Amity, there's nothing to worry about. I don't have a worst nightmare to worry about and all my fears are just some petty stuffs that either annoy me or gross me out. Or things I used to be scared of when I was a little kid. He puts down his outfits and picks up his axe, presenting it to Amity. By the way, do they allow guitar playing at Grom. I'm thinking of playing a victory after beating it.
Amity: That's allowed, yes. I…didn't know you play guitar, Luke.
Luke: Small hobby of mine. He strums his guitar a little, letting out some sounds that made Amity smile. I played it once in my human school and I accidentally blew out everyone's ear drums. So, I never played in front of a crowd again. These days, I play my music to myself.
Amity: Well…maybe, you could give playing your guitar a shot on the Boiling Isles. I'd love to hear you play.
Luke: Really?
Amity: Yeah.
Luke: Then I'll be happy to play a song after I beat Grom. I've got one I've been dying to play.
Amity: Amity gets serious. Speaking of Grom, we need to get to start training now. If you can't defeat Grom, everyone on the island will have to live out their worst nightmare.
Hooty enters, right up against Amity, scrunching her face.
Hooty: You wanna hear my worst nightmare?
Camera moves outside of Luke's room. As Amity gives Hooty the beating of a lifetime, causing him to cry out and writhe in agony while Luke tries to stop her.
Luke: Stop, stop! Amity, Amity, wai—Amity, STOP!
Amity paces in front of Luke, Willow, Gus, Edric and Emira in front of the Owl House. Behind her, Hooty is now wearing an eyepatch and bandages, recovering from the beating he received.
Amity: Grom will transform into your darkest fears. What are you afraid of, Luke?
Edric: Wanna say our greatest fears? On three. One, two...
Edric & Emira: Being alone forever! / Being stuck with you forever.
Edric groans, annoyed over Emira saying that. Luke, Willow and Gus cringe.
Gus: Ooh!
Willow: Ouch.
Luke: Luke pats Edric's shoulder. I think you just barely dodged a bullet, pal. He looks back to Amity. Like I said, most of my fears are petty ones that annoy or creep me out. I'm pretty sure Grom might use them as a warm-up. So, in preparation, I've made a list.
He pulls a list from his pocket and holds it out to Amity. She grabs it and reads it with the others. The twins chuckle a little, finding some of this stuff weird for Luke to be creeped out by.
Willow: You're really afraid of this stuff, Luke?
Luke: Again, they just weird me out or they were old fears the stuck with me when I was little.
Gus: Meh. Good enough for me. Let's make some magic.
Edric and Emira nod in agreement, the three illusionists trace spell circles and brings Luke's fears to life.
A huge version of Luke's phone appears, causing him to yelp like Homer Simpson. The screen shows a guy tipping a white fedora, and a message bubble that says "My good man".
Luke: Annoying jerks online who wanna debate and won't leave me alone!
Luke punches the phone out of existence. The next thing to appear was a poorly made claymation character that resembled Gumby, taking Luke aback and making yelp again.
Luke: Claymation! KILL IT!
Luke kicks it away and Gus raises a confused eyebrow.
Gus: You're creeped out by animated characters made of clay but not Abominations? I don't get it.
Luke: Abominations are made of goo! Not clay! There's a difference Gustonimo. Plus, this stuff creeped me out when I was little.
To his horror, Bughuul from the Sinister movies appears and Luke gets a little freaked out when he approaches him…silently.
Luke: I know he's a movie character but just looking at this guy freaks me out.
Michelle Crane from the Insidious movies appears and gives a vicious roar, pointing at Luke who cringes.
Luke: Can't say I'm scared of this woman but her abusive nature really got to me.
Then Kayako from the Grudge movie series appears, crawling towards Luke and giving her creepy croaking roar in his face, causing him to go a little pale.
Luke: Oh man…I remember seeing this creepy ghost woman in television when I was 8. I couldn't stop thinking about it in my sleep and thought I'd be getting nightmares for a week.
Amity: Not enough.
Amity walks over to a surprised Luke as the illusions disappear.
Luke: What!? What do you mean, not enough! Grom will take the form of my fears, right?
Amity: If it were that simple don't you think I'd face Grom too. The reason I can't face Grom with you—it goes deeper than things that just gross me out or even monsters. She pokes Luke. What's your real fear, Luke?
Luke: My real fear?
Amity: Yes, your deepest, darkest fear. The one that Grom will use against you when the "warm-up" is dealt with? I saw your hand shaking when we talked about Grom at school, Luke. You're afraid it might turn it something…or maybe someone that haunts you. Luke widens his eyes at that. The question is…what is that fear? I know this is delving into personal territory…but you'll have to face it when you face Grom.
Luke knows what his true greatest fear. Feeling the weight of Amity's words on his shoulders, he looks up into the sky, thinking about that day…that one traumatising day the lead him down the road of becoming a martial artist. His friends give him worried looks before he finally faces them, ready to talk and opening his eyes, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
Luke: There is…one thing I'm actually afraid of. It's something that happened to me when I was younger. No doubt that's what Grom will change into. His friends listen closely. It happened over 7 years ago. I was 6-years-old at the time.
(Flashback)
We go back to that night when Young Luke and Camila were walking out the Convention, Luke exploding with excitement, showing his t-shirt and Camila playing with him.
Luke: That night, I went to a Comic-Con Convention with my mom. I watched my favourite anime, played games, brought souvenirs and did a whole bunch of cool stuff.
The two were going down the alleyway, Luke running on ahead.
Luke: It was supposed to be one of the best nights of my life, then…all that go ruined…when…
Luke bumped into the man, falling back and losing his hat. He becomes terrified at the sight of his murderous eyes as we get look at his face this time. The man has messy black hair, his face was a little messy, he wore a trench coat and a fedora. The moment Young Luke stares at his murderous eyes he hyperventilates and ran off, whimpering in fear and hiding behind Camila's leg just as she ran up to him.
Camila: Mijo!? Are you okay!?
Before he could speak a gun is aimed right at them, causing Camila to gasp and Luke to yelp, hiding in terror.
Man: If you don't want me to blow your brains out…don't move.
Luke hugs onto Camila and he clutches her son, hard, providing as much comfort as possible and preparing to protect him.
Young Luke: Mom. I'm scared.
Camila: Luke, stay back! She looks to the man. What do you want!?
Mugger: Your wallet. Give me your wallet. Now.
Camila: Okay. Okay. I'll give it to you…
Camila slowly took out her wallet and places it down on the ground, sliding it over to the mugger who slowly picks it up while keeping his gun aimed at Camila as she slowly kept Luke hidden behind her.
Camila: There. You have what you want. Now leave us alone.
The mugger didn't stop there. He looks down to Luke hiding behind Camila's leg, eyeing the amulet worn around his neck with his goggles…like that's what he's after.
Mugger: Hey. Kid. Luke slowly pokes his head out as the Mugger held out his hand. Give that to me.
Young Luke looks between his amulet and the mugger.
Mugger: That necklace…hand it over.
Luke clutches his amulet, shaking his head in fear and refusal. To save his and Camila's lives he knows he should hand it over but…something in his heart is telling him to refuse and not give up this amulet no matter what. This act of fearful defiance enrages the mugger.
Mugger: I SAID HAND IT OVER KID!
The mugger aims his gun at Luke, causing him to freeze and gasp in terror.
Camila: NO!
The mugger was about to pull the trigger.
Camila: LUKE!
Camila quickly drops down hugging onto her son as hard as possible just the mugger pulls the trigger, a shout sounding off in the air. As though in response, it begins to rain…heavily. As the rain pours Luke opens his eyes and what he sees next causes his face to contort with dread, terror and trauma, his eyes shaking. Camila had a hole in her back and below her chest, blood seeping out of them as she hugged onto her son, crying but still smiling through her pain at her son.
Camila: Mijo…are you alright? That's good…
Camila falls to her side, releasing a petrified Luke who was frozen, sat on his bottom at what he was forced to witness. His eyes shake as they meet that of the murderous mugger who gives an ugly grin.
Mugger: You should've done what you were told…kid.
Luke was shaking fear, unable to change his expression. Then he looks to Camila, weakly reaching out as blood seeps from her body into the puddle she was on.
Camila: Luke…it's okay. Don't be afraid.
Camila's hand drops down and she slips into unconsciousness. Luke looks at his only mother…his only family left, tears welling up and leaking out his eyes as he stares at his seemingly lifeless mother, traumatized and afraid.
A trauma that would haunt him for the rest of his life and everything flashes white.
(End of Flashback)
We go back to the present where Luke was looking down the same angle, we saw his younger self look. Tears aren't welling up, but his expression is sullen, lingering with trauma after retelling the tale of the horrible experience.
He looks to his friends who were beyond horrified, mouths agape in disbelief and shock at Luke's story.
Eda had watched and heard from her room's window, equally horrified for Luke.
Amity and Emira had their mouths covered, the girls had tears of sorrow welling up in their eyes.
Emira: Oh my god…
Edric: Whoa, man…
Tears leaked out of Willow and Amity's eyes.
Willow: That's so sad…
Amity: Oh Luke…
Gus: He shot your Mom…?
Luke: Yeah. He did.
Edric: How are you still alive, man? Didn't he attack you too?
Luke: I…I don't know…when I saw my mom lying on the ground all lifeless and bleeding…I blacked out.
Luke's begins breathing heavily, holding up his shaking hands which he looks at in fear as he's hit with another flashback.
(Flashback)
Young Luke is sat on his knees looking at his shaking hands covered in blood as it continues to rain. In front of him, the mugger is laid on his back after a seemingly horrific beating, bruised, missing a few teeth and beaten senseless, bleeding from his mouth and nose, a claw mark on his chest which is also bleeding. Camila is still laid on her side in a puddle of blood.
Luke: When I regained consciousness, the sick bastard was on the ground. He looked like he got beaten within an inch of his life. And my hands…they were covered in blood.
Young Luke is quivering, shaking and crying. Tears leaking from his eyes at the sight of his bloodied hands, Camila's seemingly lifeless body and the man who caused this trauma laid in front of him. He was whimpering, filled with dread and powerlessness.
(End of Flashback)
In the present, the gang were further horrified and at the same time confused. Luke claims to have blacked out but wasn't killed because the mugger got pummelled. One would think someone heroic came and saved Luke, giving the mugger a well-deserved horrific beating. But hearing Luke say his hands were covered in blood…
Willow: Your hands were covered in blood?
Gus: And that guy was knocked out?
Emira: Luke…are you telling you actually…
Edric: Attacked that guy?
Luke continues looking at his shaking hands.
Luke: I don't know… maybe… all I remember was getting angry and then blacking out. I don't remember anything else. But…when I saw the guy's blood in my hand…I couldn't be anymore terrified. I…I think I may have done that to him…but…I don't know…
Luke clenches his hands, dropping them by his side, his expression still filled with dread.
Amity: What…happened after you regained consciousness? Did your mom…?
Luke: My mom's still alive. The police had found us when they heard the gunshot. My mom was rushed to the hospital. The doctors did everything they could. She was alive…but just barely. The bullet missed her vital organs but she lost a lot of blood. She ended up in a coma for 3 days. She almost didn't make it. I was so happy when she woke up.
Gus: His friends smile in relief for him. Well, that's something to be grateful for.
Willow: Wow, Luke. Your mom must be really strong.
Luke: Luke smiles a little. Yeah. She is.
Edric: What about the guy who attacked you? Did he get arrested?
Luke: Not exactly He was taken to the hospital to get his wounds treated before they arrest him. But…someone got to him.
Luke's friends widen their eyes in shock.
Willow: You mean…
Luke: Someone snuck into the hospital and killed him. Throat cut ear to ear.
Amity: What!? By who?
Luke: No idea. I never cared to find out, since that bastard got what he deserved.
Edric: Can't blame you for that.
Emira: Things at least worked out in the end, right?
Luke: Not exactly. Luke becomes depressed again. As happy as I was to see my mom still alive, I could never forget what happened that night. Luke's voice is actually filled with fear for the first time, something that unsettles his friends. I'll never forget how I felt that night…when I looked into that guy's insane eyes. That night…I almost became an orphan again.
Amity, Willow, Gus, Edric, Emira and Eda all widen their eyes from that as Luke brought out his amulet, giving it a deep look. The Owl Lady gasps in disbelief at the sight of the amulet, a look of shock and small realization in her expression.
Willow: Is that…?
Luke: Yeah. This is my amulet. This is all that's left of my birth parents.
Amity, Willow, Gus, Edric and Emira all gasp.
Amity: Luke…you're adopted?
Emira: We had no idea.
Luke: No, no, it's no big thing. My adopted parents are cool. It turned out fine. My mom found me in a forest when I was a baby and took me in. She and my dad raised me as their own son and they became my parents. Luke stares at his amulet, his eyes narrowed. This thing was with me when my mom found me. It's the only clue I have about my birth family. I don't know who they are, where I came from or what my real name was.
Eda was still in shock from looking at the amulet, like she knows what it is.
Eda: That amulet… it can't be…? Can it?
The gang continue listening to Luke's story with sympathetic looks.
Luke: All I know is I was lost in a forest before Camila found me and made me her son. And as for my foster dad, he…he…he…he… His friends were waiting for him to speak but Luke decides not say anything, deciding his foster dad is not a topic he wants to touch upon left. It's been me and my mom for years now. She's raised me all by herself. And…I don't often make it easy for her. But I love her. She's the only family I have left in my life. For all I know my birth parents are dead. Luke's voice starts to break, close to crying for the first time. If my mom were to die…I…I…I wouldn't know what I'd do. I don't want to be an orphan again…
His friends didn't know what to say. This is the first time their wise-cracking hero has displayed his emotional side. They knew he had issues with making friends but they had no idea he had family troubles too. He doesn't know where he came from or who his birth parents are. He has a foster family, but from the sounds of it Luke doesn't live with his foster father for some reason and only lives with his mother. Camila is all that Luke had.
Luke: That night has been haunting me my whole life. For months I was scared of people, I even got jumpy whenever my mom touched me. I got some therapy, and I was told to find an outlet that would give me control…so I enrolled in a martial arts class and taught myself the art of sword fighting. I learned how to fight and defend myself and others so something like that never happens again. Luke clutches his amulet, this close to crying, struggling with all his might to hold back his tears. But even now…that night still haunts me. It's been haunting me my whole life. I get nightmares about it every now and then. I watched my mom…the only family I had left get shot right in front of me. I thought she was dead. And it was all my fault…because I didn't give the guy my amulet. I was powerless to save her. I couldn't do anything. I…I…
Luke gasps in surprise when he's suddenly tackled by Amity, embracing Luke in a hug, crying for him, her voice breaking a little.
Amity: Oh, Luke…I'm so sorry something so horrible happened to you.
And one by one, Willow, Gus, Edric and Emira join in, embracing Luke in a group hug, crying too and providing the human boy as much comfort as they possibly could. To experience such a thing at a young age, it should've been impossible to recover from but here he is, standing strong and ready to face that fear!
Eda couldn't bring herself to interrupt them and couldn't help but feel so useless when she should've been comforting her student with the gang. She almost cries but holds it back.
Eda: Kid…I know you said humans are tough. But if that's what Grom turns into…are you sure you'll be able to handle it?
Luke lets his friends hug him as tight as they could, until they finally pull back, continuing to comfort Luke with their words.
Amity: Luke. What happened wasn't your fault.
Willow: You were 6-years-old at the time, Luke.
Gus: Yeah. And you couldn't give that guy your amulet. It's too important to you.
Edric: Some maniac shot your mom right in front of you. Anyone would be scared.
Emira: Any one of us would be scared if we met someone like that.
Luke: Luke looks downcast. Knowing all those things…doesn't stop my nightmares. And there's no doubt in my mind…Grom's gonna turn into that man when it gets a good look at my brain. He looks up, his face of dread turning into that of fiery determination. But I am not gonna run. Becoming a fighter taught me not to let fears control me. I won't lie…I'm a little edgy at the thought of Grom becoming that heartless bastard. I'm… He sighs in annoyance. I can't believe I'm actually saying this…I'm afraid. Amity and the rest gasp from Luke's confession but he remains determined. But I'm not afraid to face my fears. I won't let that fear own me. If Grom wants to use that memory against me then I say bring it on! I'll charge head on and keep pounding it until it's nothing but a useless pile of sludge!
Amity and the gang were worried but at the same time amazed by Luke's speech. They exchange looks, nodding in agreement and smile at the sight of Luke showing fire in his eyes again, his confidence back. Amity is filled with more admiration than ever for her crush. They know how strong Luke is both physically and mentally and so decide to put their faith in that human strength of his. Amity walks up, taking a hold of Luke's hands, holding it up.
Amity: You really are amazing Luke. If you really believe you can face your fear…then I'll believe in you too.
Willow: We all believe in you.
Edric: Yeah, man, we've got your back.
Emira: We'll be cheering you on. You're gonna beat Grom.
Gus: Yeah! And King and I will make sure every student in the gym all give their support.
Luke: Thanks guys.
Eda: Luke. Everyone looks to see Eda walking up. Are you absolutely sure you wanna do this?
Luke: Of course, I'm sure, Eda.
Eda: I overheard you telling your story. Luke widens his eyes. I know you said humans are strong but if Grom turns into THAT, can you really handle it.
Luke: I can handle it! I've been preparing for this! I'm ready!
Eda: You think training will help against Grom? Luke, you always go overboard, and I end up bailing you out. Now, what's the fun in watching a kid get eaten by a monster if it's my kid?
Luke: Luke is getting annoyed with Eda's lack of faith in him. First of all, just because I'm your student doesn't mean I'm your kid. Second, no you don't. If anything, I bail you out. Third, it's not like I ever asked you to do that! Fourth, would it kill you to put a little faith in me!? Fifth, maybe you'll have fun watching me defeat Grom, like how I've defeated every other monster I've come across!
Kayako suddenly comes in and roars in Luke's face again but this time he was ready and merely gives it an unimpressed glare.
Luke: Shut up.
The illusion disappears and Amity puts a hand on Luke's shoulder, impressed.
Amity: Luke, I don't think you're ready, but we're literally out of time so I'm just going to put my faith in you.
Luke: I'll take it! Now let's get ready to party!
References
- The Ninja outfit Luke was thinking of wearing is a reference to Randy Cunningham. The main character of "Randy Cunnigham The 9th Grade Ninja".
- And the hedgehog costume was based from Sonic the Hedgehog.
Both Sonic and Randy are voiced by Ben Schwartz (Sonic in the Live-Action movie) who is also the VA of Luke. It felt like a good reference. Special thanks to Fickleness16 for suggesting this.
And some of this chapter is inspired by Jss's "Luz Noceda, the Fighter" story.
The Claymation fear is based from Cowboy Alchemist's "Seventh Son" story.
As for the movie fears, I watched Grudge, Sinister and Insidious when I was a kid and they were terrifying. I was worried I'd be getting nightmares about these shows. I didn't like that Bughuul and Kayako won in their movies and Michelle Crane is a character I absolutely loathe so this is me getting back at old childhood fears.
Who'd have thought…Luke had such a tragic story behind all his jokes and positive attitude. But despite that, he's willing to face his fears and take on Grom.
Part 2 coming up. Our Grom King will face Grom and the entire fight will be full of some twists and a HUGE surprise! Don't miss it.
