There was so little left, and that was the fault of Rose Quartz, or rather Pink Diamond, the light released by the Diamonds corrupted almost all the gems on Earth, with the exception of her, Garnet, Pearl and Bismuth, with the last gem being saved because she had been bubbled centuries ago.
Both Crystal Gems and the gems that served Homeworld themselves were corrupted in the attack, but Rose knew the real intention of the beam of light... To destroy all the gems on Earth and she knew why the attack hadn't killed everyone there.
Rose looked at her reflection in the water, even though she was in the form of Rose Quartz, she could still see the clear form of Pink Diamond being reflected with Earth's Moon in the sky right behind, if Pink's power was coupled with the light of corruption, without a doubt all the Gems on Earth would be dead.
Rose closed her mouth with an overwhelming force that was grinding her teeth, anger, sadness and hatred bubbled inside her gem, she failed with the rebellion, she failed with her friends, they were supposed to be celebrating the victory over Homeworld now with their Comrades, everyone was supposed to be free on Earth and be able to do whatever they want, without the harsh laws of Homeworld threatening them with horrible punishments for being themselves.
She turned and struck a rock near the lake, essentially turning the large rock into dust, tears were streaming down her face, Pink Diamond was dead and everything should have ended there, but the harsh reality was that Pink was alive, tens of thousands of gems were corrupted and hundreds of thousands were shattered as a result of the war that she started with herself.
Pink knew that she had made many mistakes, she intended to make up for them, free the gems, save the Earth from its destruction and perhaps when she was prepared and with a more solid foundation to then rise against the other diamonds and free all the gems from her tyranny, but it seems that the consequences of her actions continued to act, even when she had improved so much to the point that she was proud to say that she was not Pink Diamond.
It turns out that the harsh and cruel reality, did not tell lies, Pink Diamond still lived, the mistakes made would not disappear just because she had become a better gem, she would never be the true Rose Quartz that the Crystal Gems believed, her old Pearl would never be would recover from what Pink did to her and she would never leave White's control, she would never see Spinel again, the corrupted gems would never be healed and the shattered gems would never be made whole again and the gems that serve the Diamonds would never be free, as long as Diamonds exist no one would ever be safe...

Maybe Bismuth was right, Pink Diamond's death didn't save everyone because to do so all the Diamonds needed to be defeated and destroyed for this to work.
Rose's hand began to glow in a threatening pink light, for the diamonds' light to be used it is necessary for all the diamonds to come together, as Pink was supposedly shattered, they were White, Yellow and Blue, and as White never leaves Homeworld, the light of corruption can only have come from the home planet.
Pink looked up at the night sky and quickly located the star of the galaxy that Homeworld was in, it wasn't difficult to find Homeworld, White's light destroys the mind, Yellow's light destroys the physical form, Blue's light destroys the emotions and Pink's light destroys the Life, at least that's what happens when all the lights come together.
Pink slowly raised her glowing hand to the sky, as Pink had not joined together to make the attack, White's beam corrupted the minds of the affected Gems, Yellow's beam corrupted their physical forms and Blue's beam corrupted their emotions, When the light reached Earth, Rose raised her shield and protected Garnet and Pearl from the attack and herself, if she wasn't fast enough, only Bismuth would be left as the only uncorrupted Gem on Earth.
Pink slowly and surely pointed her hand that radiated a deadly light towards the area that Homeworld was in, if her attack reached Homeworld the Diamonds would be affected by the attack and as none of them have defensive powers, they would have no way to protect themselves from her attack and this would mark the end of the Diamonds' tyranny, with Pink corrupting their lives, if that makes sense.
Pink aimed her hand directly at the star that her home planet orbited, the light was so strong, intense and hot that it seemed as if night had turned to day, the plants around her quickly grew at an exorbitant speed, with one attack and the authority would fall once and for all, all the Gems would finally be free and the Diamonds would never hurt anyone again.
Pink finally had her hand straight towards Homeworld, it would be easy to fire her own beam at Homeworld, she just needed to release her attack and it would be the end of the diamonds and all the gems in the empire would finally be free... Except for those who were caught together the diamonds in their beam.
Rose's hand shook at the thought of her own corrupting innocent Gems in the process, but she quickly regained her resolve, this was a war and every war has its sacrifices, a fact that unfortunately took Rose by surprise when she began to rebellion, many Gems were shattered because of her, even if she wasn't directly responsible, she was the one who put them in that situation.
Rose's resolve wavered again when she realized that what she would do wouldn't make her any different from the other diamonds, but she wasn't different to begin with, she was just as bad as the rest and didn't deserve to exist, so for the first time in her life , she should be a real diamond and use all her cruelty to put a necessary end to this.
Tears fell from Rose's face blurring her vision, her old pearl was also in Homeworld and although she was being controlled by White, she would also be affected by his attack, she loved that gem and it had already hurt her so much... But on the other hand, perhaps it would be more merciful for her to be hit by his attack and end her suffering, Rose once again resisted her emotions and solidified her aim, she would follow Bismuth's advice, perhaps if she had listened to her earlier, things would have been better , this is definitely her only option, she wouldn't let her emotions stop her from thinking to make the best decision, just like she always did and didn't think properly before doing something...

Both Rose and Pink never thought straight and because of this unexpected consequences happened regularly, this whole rebellion revolves around decisions made in the moment, without proper reflection, Rose stopped to think, when the plan to fake her death was made, the objective I expected the other diamonds to give up on the planet because it wasn't worth it, but on second thoughts, that was a foolish plan.
Pink Diamond, even though it was the smallest and least important diamond, was still a diamond after all and its shattering was a huge slap in the face to Homeworld, a blow to the pride of the empire that could not be taken lightly, mainly because it could encourage more rebellions in the future.
This was a big enough issue to cause White to leave Homeworld, so even if her attack hit Homeworld there was a chance it wouldn't even hit a single diamond and even if the light of corruption came from Homeworld nothing would guarantee that Yellow and Blue would still were there, they probably fired the light of corruption and then separated to ensure that new revolts did not happen, if she used her light she could be condemning the lives of billions of gems completely for nothing, a purposeless genocide.
Not to mention that the truth about Pink being alive would be revealed to everyone, the diamonds would immediately come to punish her, putting Pearl and Garnet at risk, as well as all the corrupted gems that would be unable to fit into Homeworld's standards and would be shattered, ending any hope of curing them and to ensure that she didn't rebel anymore, they would lock her in that damn tower and never let her out again... Not to mention the possibility that her light alone might not have a strong enough effect to defeat the too many diamonds… And many more bad things could happen with that…
Many tears fell as Rose fell to her knees, the bright light fading, as her entire self gained an incandescent pink glow and her diamond eyes appeared in her pupils, she screamed, her scream creating a shock wave so strong that it leveled the entire place around her, this hadn't happened to her since she lost her Pearly.
She couldn't do anything now, but still that night, she swore to herself, that if one day Homeworld came back, that if the other diamonds dared to come and wipe out what was left of her family... SHE WOULD MAKE THEM REGRET, even At the cost of her own life, if to save her family, she needed to fulfill the others' wish of being A TRUE DIAMOND, then she would fulfill their wishes and be as merciful as them...
