Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail or it's characters, just the OCs.
AN: Hello everyone. Let me start off by saying thank you all for reading the reboot of my story The Mage Who Levels UP!.
Things are gonna be different in this story.
For one thing I'm gonna expand on Romeo's RPG powers a bit more, I'm also gonna try to build the Fairy Tail world up a bit more as well.
But the most important one is that Romeo is now more of a dark anti-hero, just not the kind your expecting.
I also have an Idea of where I want this story to go, unlike my previous one.
I only ask that you give it a chance.
Update: I edited the conversation between Magi and Sunna
Chapter 1
The Being Behind it All and a New Start
X793
"This is so lame." Romeo groans out in annoyance as he was sitting in front of the large doors of a huge ancient and sacred temple.
He was out here on a job to guard this place, all by himself believe it or not.
It had been a full year ever since the war with Alvarez, and he was finally able to talk his old man to let him take a job alone and that he didn't need anyone else with him.
However, the thing was, he was only able to take low-tier non-dangerous jobs, as his father, and many of his guildmates, agreed he wasn't ready for harder ones just yet.
The only reason he was able to do this by himself was because the area he was in had very little criminal activity, so it was highly unlikely he would run into any trouble.
However the people that hired him wanted some extra protection, just to be safe.
"Like come on! Wendy is taking even harder jobs than this on a daily basis, I'm just as strong as she is."
The boy then sighs and looks down because knew that was just a lie.
Romeo didn't hate Wendy, far from it, it's just that he always felt inferior around her.
And it wasn't like you could blame him for feeling that way either.
She was strong, a good fighter, not to mention a wielder of numerous powerful magics.
Compared to her and everyone else in the guild, he felt useless.
Heh, actually it wasn't that he felt useless, it was more like he WAS useless.
It's not like he didn't try to change that either, he always trained hard ever day and pushed his body and magic to it's limits and even beyond that.
But no matter how hard he worked or even tried, the others always seemed to get stronger.
"I should probably stop fighting it at this point, I had a full nine years to get stronger, and no matter what I just didn't come out strong." Romeo says to himself depressed, "I've even been getting some training from Natsu and the others, but even that's not helping me much." He let out a sigh, "Nothing is gonna make me stronger now."
The boy simply sat there before he reached into his backpack that he had brought with him and pulled out a special item.
It was a golden amulet with a strange green jewel on it. This used to belong to his mother before she left him and his dad, the last thing he had to remember her by. He kept it as a good luck charm as well as an item of hope that he will one day see her again.
"At long last, I can feel it near me."
The dark purple haired boy's eyes widen when he heard that as he immediately stood up and looks around for anyone, only to see that no one was there.
"Ok that was weird,"
"Get inside the temple..."
Romeo begins to sweat a little. "Calm down Romeo, your just hearing things after being alone thats all."
"No you are not..."
The boy immediately beings to whip his head around with both of his fists ignited with red flames.
"I'm not some bored induced illusion, nor am I outside with you."
"Then W-Who are y-you?"
"I will explain everything, but first you must get inside my temple."
"What?" Romeo asked confused, "But I can't do that, my employer said that no matter what don't-"
"Please, I just want my amulet back." the voice said interrupting him.
"Your amulet? But this belonged to my-"
"And where did you think that Amulet was first from before Enno got a hold of it, Romeo Conbolt?" the male voice said interrupting him again.
Said boy's eyes widen.
"H-How do you know-"
"I know everything about those who have my gift young one." he said interrupting the boy for the third time in a row.
Before the dark purple haired boy could question about the "gift" he was talking about the temple doors opened on their own, as Romeo looked inside he saw pillars, red carpet, benches, alters, a hallway in the front, and a bunch of other things you would find in a place of worship.
"If you give back the amulet to me, I will make it worth your while."
Romeo curiosity was getting the better of him before he holds onto the last thing he had in memory of his mother and makes his way into the temple.
"Ok, my employer said that this temple used to be a place to pray and worship some kind of God way back in the past, before it eventually got abandoned." Romeo thinks as he enters the hallway going deeper inside it. "He also said that it was soon to be torn down to make way for some new buildings. Which is why he called me here, to guard it so no one gets in or tries to prevent it from being destroyed, yet here I am entering it anyway. The voice also said that this was his temple, could he be the God that used to be worshiped here?"
"May, aren't you a sharp one." The voice mocks as he continued, "Yes this used to be my place of worship before you mortals left it like trash on the sidewalk."
Before long the young Fairy Tail mage came upon a room with a large statue in the center.
It looked like a hooded figure in robes with glowing eyes under a cloak casting some kind of spell Back in it's day Romeo bet it looked great, but it was now old and a few cracks could be seen here and there. The boy looks down and sees a hole that is oddly shaped similarly like the amulet he has in his hands.
"Don't tell me I'm suppose to-"
"Yes, place it right on that little area." The God said interrupting the kid for the fourth time today.
Romeo nods before he does so.
The moment he did the statue begins to glow with an extremely bright light, making the boy cover his eyes just to make sure he wouldn't go blind.
The Rainbow Fire mage begins to step back a bit as the light was starting to get even brighter.
When it finally dimmed down he was surprised to see the sight before him.
Standing there, in front of the strange looking statue, was the very same God that it depicted.
It was the same robed figure with said robe being all white with light blue edges and with the chest are being gold. It was held to his waist by an ancient looking belt that looked like it was made out of some ancient creature bones. His feet were mostly covered by his long robe though Romeo did see that they were white with golden outlining. The most noticeable thing was that the hood from the white cloak he was wearing was covering his face so much that it was pitch black and the only thing visible were his glowing blue eyes.
Romeo stares at the being with shock before it turns around to see the amulet back to where it belonged.
"Thank you for returning my Amulet to me young Romeo."
"Ok, for real, who the hell are you!?"
"Who am I?" The being stated turning around toward the boy, "Thats rude, because of me you and so many others in your guild are what they are now."
The confused look on Romeo said it all.
"I am the very reason your world is what it is, I am the one responsible for the fact some of you are born and blessed with great power, I am the very beginning of you mortal's way of life. I am Magi, the God of Magic."
The young Rainbow Fire mage looks at him in shock, there was a Magic God, he never knew that before.
"Don't be so shocked if you haven't heard of me, I'm used to it by now." Magi stated crossing his sleeved arms a little pissed, "My name used to be worshiped, feared, and respected throughout Earthland, I had temples everywhere dedicated to me, but now this is the only one that remains, not to mention only a few of you mortals have ever even heard of me."
"Your the God of Magic, but then that would mean when you said that you knew me because of my gift."
"I meant your ability to use magic." The God stated to Romeo as he looked down at the Amulet he placed on the Temple.
"So what was the big deal with that Amulet anyway?" The dark purple haired boy asked the God of all Magic, "Does it give the wearer some kind of magic power boost?"
"No, it's just a normal Amulet."
"What?"
"It has no value when it comes to giving power, nor in money." Magi explains to young mortal, "It's true value is that it's a gift from the very person who built this temple."
"The person who built this temple?"
"He was one of my most faithful followers, spent months building this great temple before you. After that he worked even harder to help and gain people here and pretty soon I had a shinning temple with hundreds of thousands of followers that would pray to me at least three times a day." Magi explains to Romeo, "On the very first day of the temple's opening he left this amulet as a gift for always guiding him on this very statue. I lost it however when someone stole it, that was nearly 20,000 years ago, and it hasn't be found since, until now that is."
Romeo processed everything he was hearing right now, it was pretty clear as to why Magi wanted the item back, but this also raised a question as to how his own mom got a hold of it in the first place. He would go and ask her, but he hasn't seen her in over thirteen years.
"But enough about the past, now is the matter of your reward."
Romeo looks up with a slight wide eyed expression
"Reward?"
"Yes while it may not be much in your mortal eyes, and you didn't have prier knowledge as to way it was important to me before you gave it, I waited 20,000 years just to gain it back and if it wasn't for you I would have had to wait even longer, so I would like to repay you for it, by giving you your heart's greatest desire."
"My greatest desire?" Romeo asked both confused and excited by the God's offer.
"Oh yes young Conbolt, like I said I know everything about everyone who has my gift of magic. And I know full well that you aren't satisfied with your gift."
"I have no idea with what your talking about." Romeo defends as he crosses his arms and looks away.
The God merely looks at the human with a deadpan expression before adopting a more series one and begins to walk in circles around him.
"You can't do that old excuse with me boy, I know everything about you from your first breath as an infant to right now as we're talking." Magi stated matter-o-factly, "You've always felt jealous and worthless toward your guildmates because no matter how much you pushed yourself and improve you could never catch up with them. Ya always felt like you were in their shadows always looking for an opportunity to step into the light, only for the shadows your guildmates casted on you to get bigger and prevent you from doing so. Especially when it comes to Wendy Marvell, which is ironic considering your feelings for the girl."
Magi got the reaction he was looking for when saying that as he sees Romeo's face turn redder than a tomato.
"Well worry not, since you feel so unsatisfied with your current gift, I will let you "exchange" it for one so powerful and so rare that it hasn't been seen in this world before, until now."
Hearing this got Romeo's eyes to go a bit wider as he stared up the magic being.
"Wait really?" He asked getting excited, "What kind of magic are we talking here?"
"One that will allow you to gain new sets of skills and abilities, as well to grow stronger just like the rest of the mages you so greatly admire." Magi then gains a smug grinning face that was hidden by the blackness of his hood, "Only in your case you will be able to do it continuously."
The dark purple haired boy couldn't believe what he was hearing, someone with that kind of power could become the strongest in the world!
"Consider this a Second Chance at life so, what do you say?"
"Yes I accept!"
"Good." He then rolled up the sleeve on his right arm, making Romeo even more shocked as he saw that his entire hand was made up of pure outer space, he saw stars and even a few small planets. "Now shake my hand so we can make the deal official."
Romeo snapped out of his amazement and nods before he shook his hand.
When he did that he got the surprise of his life when he felt a powerful energy coursing through his veins, causing his skin to start having cracks form inside it and making him scream in agony. It was so powerful that his eyes began to bleed from the sheer force of the new magic, making him feel even more pain. But this feeling was short lived as his eyes began to glow a bright green blinding him.
"AHHHHHHH!" a young scream could be heard as the dark purple haired boy instantly wakes up, sweating from his body as he looks to find that he was in his room in his house.
He looks around his old surroundings confused.
"Wait what?" Romeo asked himself, "Wasn't I at that temple?"
BING!
Romeo looks in front of him to where that sound came from, only to find something extremely strange.
It was a black screen with golden outlining, along with golden letters written on it, floating right in front of him.
CONGRATULATIONS!
THE SYSTEM HAS CHOSEN YOU, ROMEO CONBOLT, TO BECOME A PLAYER
Romeo had to blink a couple times just to make sure he wasn't seeing things, but sure enough the screen didn't go away like he had hoped, so he was sure this was real.
"Romeo you ok?"
The voice brought said boy back to reality as he sees his father standing there in the door way, with a worried expression.
"I heard you scream so I came to check to see if you were alright."
"Y-Yeah I'm fine just a weird dream is all." Romeo lied as the screen in front of him was floating in the middle of him and his dad.
"Oh ok, good to know." His father stated not taking into account the floating screen at all.
"Ummm Dad?"
"Yes son?"
"Do you see anything?" Romeo questioned
"Huh, what do you mean, see what?" Macao asked perplexed at what his son was asking.
The boy of Fairy Tail stays quite for a moment, "Am I the only one who can see this then?"
"Well, in any case, you should come to the guild soon," Macao said with a smile on his face, "I still can't believe they were alive after all this time."
Hearing that got Romeo's attention.
"Dad what are you talking about?"
Macao just looked at his son more confused.
"The Tenrou Group, they returned yesterday." The fourth guild master explained to his son, "How could you not remember? You cried the hardest when you saw Natsu and the others after so long."
The dark purple haired boy gained a slightly shocked expression before looking back at his old man,
"Dad, what year is it exactly?"
"It's X791 of course."
The boy's eyes widen when he hears this.
"When I accepted that deal did I go back in time as well!?" Romeo thinks to himself before his father speaks again.
"Well, whenever your ready, just go to the guildhall ok?"
And with that the dark blue haired man leaves his son alone with his thoughts.
"But that doesn't make any sense, why would he have to send me back two years ago when he gave me my gift?"
Just as he was about to think further on this the screen he was seeing began to change.
BING!

Somewhere Else
"I can't believe you did that." A female voice said to Magi as he was still inside the temple Romeo was at before.
She looked to be a beautiful woman in her 20s, she had peach skin, a slender frame, a busty body, golden eyes, as well as long curly golden hair. Her attire was a dress that looked like it belonged to a dancer girl. It consist of a yellow and gold brassire with hipster bikini bottoms covered with a jeweled, beaded belt with a see-through high slit chiffon skirt along with a decorated golden choker, headdress, armbands and anklets.
"Well you better believe it woman." Magi said as he was holding his long lost amulet in his hands.
The God of magic didn't need to have any kind to know that the girl was basically burning daggers in the back of his head with a glare.
"How dare you address me, Sunna, as such."
"And how dare you question me on my actions that I chose to do on MY own Accord."
"Our oath was not to interfere or mess with the timeline, and you did both!"
"And does it look like I care woman?"
The women stars at the hooded man for what felt like forever before she began to speak.
"But there is just one thing I don't get, why did you lie to the boy?"
Magi turns to look at her, "I don't know what you mean."
"I am not a idiot Magi." Sunna stated as she starts to speak again.
"First of all, you are not a god, calling us the same name as those pathetic toys of ours is just an insult." She begins, "Second, this temple was not built to worship you, it was for some other weak god, the mortal's don't even know you exist, not even those idiotic Gods and Goddess that watch over these mortals and continue to believe in the blasphemy that they are the ones on top know about us, even right now we're invisible to them. You just used your powers to make it seem like that to the young boy, even made this statue." She points to said object, "Finally, you straight up lied to that young mortal, that amulet is just an ordinary one that you made back in your plain. Literary everything you told him was an utter lie."
The being of magic didn't say anything as he just stares at the golden haired girl.
"So again, why did you lie to the boy, instead of simply telling him the truth of what you really are."
Magi was quiet for a moment, and if he had a mouth, he would be smirking moments later.
"Well if you must know, I'm interested in the boy." The space body being then holds up his 'sacred amulet' before crushing it in his hands before dropping it, soon the amulet begins to fad away out of existence right before it could make contact with the floor, "He wished to get stronger, so I gave him the opportunity to do so. But he's not ready to learn about me just yet, he will have to earn that privilege."
Sunna soon glares hard at Magi that the non-god being of magic was sure that he would have been burn to a crisp.
"Whatever your planning, it better not threaten me or the rest of us, or so help me I'll-"
She was interrupted when a large blue portal suddenly opened next to them, causing them both to look surprised right before Sunna smirks at him.
"Looks like the others caught up with whatever you were doing,"
"Whatever lets just go and see what they want."
And with that both of the non-god beings step through the portal, making it close right after. And when the portal left, the temple that they were in suddenly began to disappear from existence, never to be seen again.
