*Zygarde Mall; Food Court

Maybe this was a bad idea.

Not the whole going on a date with Ryu, but where we were. A smoky, noisy food court and the two of us sitting across from each other and awkwardly sipping our drinks.

He did look great in his black button up shirt and red tie. While I was wearing a black long sleeve shirt that exposed my shoulders. And I didn't wear something like this often.

Just when he finally had the courage to finally ask me out and now here we were. Why did I have to suggest this place? We're trying to be more than friends you dumbass?

Ryu showed no signs of hating this place but he didn't look exactly comfortable either. It looked like it was me that would have to break the silence.

"Soooooo...what's new Ryu?"

"Nothing really. Changed up my workout regiment a bit a uh...umm...stuff you know..."

Ryu flushed as if he realized he said something embarrassing, even though he didn't, and it left me feeling all confused. Maybe he was just nervous?

"E-Enough about me. What about you?"

"My dad and I watched a new movie. About a creature in the sea. It's a really old one but it was... fine."

I took a sip of my water trying to ignore the smoke wafting from the kitchen over to our table. Ryu looked like he wanted to say something else but he just fidgeted awkwardly in his seat. How did we go from holding paws once or twice to this? Why was it so hard for us to hold a conversation when it was just us?

Maybe I should ask Eve for some advice. I don't think I'm doing it right.

"Evelyn."

"Yeah?"

"Uhh umm you- you ahem! You have beautiful ears."

"What?"

I raised an eyebrow at him in confusion and he flushed red in embarrassment as he realized he made a mistake.

"No! No! No! No! No! I- I meant you have beautiful eyes!"

"Thanks?"

"uggggghhhhhhhh..."

Ryu said as he planted his face on the table. I almost laughed at how hard he was trying, but I think that would have made him feel worse so I just sat there.

"A supreme pizza for two!"

"Thank you."

Ryu reluctantly picked his head back up off the table and ate the pizza with me. Even after eating he still looked as nervous as before.

"A-After this you want to play Dance Revolution at the arcade?"

"Sure. And I'll wipe the floor with you and beat your ass."

"Right."

Why did I have to say that when he's a nervous wreck right now? Maybe I should let him win the game so he can get some of his confidence back?

After we had our dinner we left for the arcade much to my relief to be away from the cloud of smoke. Right when we were about to swipe the card on the machine to play, Ryu froze like he just realized something.

"Ryu?"

"I need to go use the bathroom."

"Oh okay I'll wait here."

Ryu left in a hurry so fast that something fell out of his pocket and he didn't even notice. I picked it up in confusion and it was a notepad. My curiosity got the better of me and I read the first page.

"How to talk to girls:

Listen to what she says.

Compliment her.

Be yourself."

Did Sylveon write this for him? He really needed help from a piece of paper to go on a date with me?

I let out a snort and started giggling to myself at how unexpectedly cute it was. I was lost in my own laughter that when he returned a minute later I didn't realize until he was standing right next to me looking really embarrassed.

"Evelyn! I can explain!"

"Hehe did Sylveon write this for you?"

"Yes..."

"And even though the paper clearly reads 'Be Yourself' in clear, bold letters you are not even doing that?"

"I knooowwww. It's pathetic isn't it?"

"No I'm flattered actually."

"Wait what?"

"That you put in this effort for me even if you are kind of messing it up. It's dare I say cute."

Ryu stared at me his face flushing a crimson red. I didn't give compliments often but when I did I made them count. I realized I was looking at him back right in his eyes and I shyly averted my gaze away.

"Uh ahem let's go do the dance thing now."

"Whatever."

"Watch it mister! You know I kick ass at this game!"

"Let's see if that's true."

The game began and our feet moved crazy fast to match the arrows as they popped up on the screen. I grew a little irritated as me and him were evenly matched.

"Give up, Evelyn?"

"Fuck off!"

"Ha! Keep getting angry! It will only be easier for me to win!"

"Shut up!"

"I bet you can't even alternate dance."

"ALRIGHT YOU SON OF @ %* YOU ASKED FOR IT!"

I yanked his arm hard and smoothly swapped us to each other's game.

"Ah fuck! You nearly made me fall off!"

"YOU ASKED FOR IT! AND YOU GOT MY BEST! NOW WATCH THIS!"

I started spinning and my feet hit the correct arrows without me having to even look at the screen. Ryu stood there shocked that he didn't notice he stopped playing himself.

"Eyes on the screen or you can't keep up with me?!"

Ryu snapped out of it as he realized I was challenging him now. He mega evolved and started dancing faster than I've ever seen him move that it made me sweat a little.

A small crowd started forming around us and cheered as they watched our dance duel unfold. We both kept dancing and staring each other down without even looking at the screen. I squinted at it for only a split second to see the two of us already passed the high score. The beat and music was getting faster and the machine played a nightclub song. I smiled smugly at Ryu and did the same.

"IT'S TIME TO DUEL!"

"I THOUGHT WE WERE ALREADY DUELING! UNLESS YOU'RE GIVING UP EVELYN!"

"NEVER!"

I spun around on my back and I hit the arrows using my paws and tail. Ryu started using aura vision and kept up with me hitting the arrows perfectly. I stood up and kept dancing like there was no tomorrow.

When Ryu caught me by surprise and pulled me towards him and we spun over the dance floor. Hitting the notes as a duo and like we were dancing together at the same time.

I was getting tired and I nearly slipped when Ryu helped me back up and I vaulted over his back to keep hitting the notes while dancing at the same time. We forgot about our duel and just danced to have fun. The crowd kept cheering as we tore it up on the dance floor. Eventually we had to stop and both collapsed in laughter and the score finally came to a standstill.

It was a tie.

"Hahahaha well that was fun."

"Hahahaha it definitely was."

Ryu replied as he fought to sit back up because he was still laughing so hard. I couldn't get up and I held out a paw to him in defeat.

"Hehehe Ryu. Friend of mine. Help me up."

Ryu chuckled as he pulled me up by my arm and carried me out princess style. Making me blush hard as everyone stared at us.

"No I didn't mean like- like this...Ryu this is embarrassing...Umm ugh nevermind..."
