Kyle is pushing the food on his plate around. He doesn't feel like eating. He's worried about Tamara, because she left in such a bad way and has not texted him back yet.
"Kyle, eat your food," Brax orders looking up to see his brother's full plate.
"Fine." Kyle huffs and stabs his fish with his fork and puts it in his mouth.
Shooting Denny an awkward glance, Casey, who's been watching the little exchange between his brother's, can't help but be annoyed that of all the days to have his girlfriend come over, it has to be one where Kyle is emotional.
"Kyle, the fish is already dead, you don't have to kill it." Heath teases his little brother, who he knows is easy to wind up. He's usually easy anyway. Brax sends a looks Heath's way. Why did he have to open his big mouth?
Kyle stares daggers at his older brother. He is not in the mood.
"Just a joke little brother." Heath smirks and eats his own fish. He can see that Kyle is close to snapping. All he has to do is push him a little more, and Kyle would flip out, and that would give him some entertainment.
"Heath." Bianca glares. She does not want an argument. If Heath keeps pushing his brother, things will escalate. They don't need that.
"So Denny, what brought you to the bay?" Ricky asks, wanting to change the subject before Heath winds Kyle up even more.
"I have family here. My half brother and sister, Oscar and Evie McGuire," Denny explains nervously as she can see Kyle still glaring at Heath. Brax sees this and kicks Kyles leg from under the table.
"Ow." Kyle moans and rubs his leg. He looks up and gives Brax a hurt look. Why was he the one to be kicked? Heath is the one stirring him up!
"Kyle, we have company. Stop making Denny feel uncomfortable. And Heath, leave Kyle alone. Now both of you apologise," Brax orders and glares at his two brothers.
"Sorry," Kyle mumbles. He isn't himself today. Not after the fight with Tamara. "I'm just a bit off, Denny," Kyle says and looks at his oldest brother, who nods his head. Brax knows exactly where Kyle's head is at.
"I'm not five! I'm not apologising because Kylie is overly emotional!" Heath huffs.
Casey glares at his older brother. Why can't his family be normal? He rolls his eyes and tips his head back. Why, oh why can't they be normal?
"I know them? They're good kids," Ricky interrupts. She knows that there is no way that Heath is going to apologise. She also knows that this would lead to more arguments.
"Me too, I'm the principal at their school, both very bright." Bianca smiles and is happy to see that everything has finally calmed down, and Kyle is now eating his dinner, not taking any notice of his older brother.
"Yea, they're great. You know it's great being a half-sister. It doesn't change the way they treat me. They've welcomed me in." Denny smiles, and everyone looks at Kyle and smiles. It is the same with him. This is confirmed by Heath.
"It's the same with Kylie. I mean he's our half brother, but he annoys me equally as much as Casey does." Heath laughs as he picks up a napkin and throws it at his little brother. "Aye Kylie?" He smirks. Brax rolls his eyes. Heath really can't help himself. He has to annoy his brother.
"Huh?" Kyle asks as he looks up and sees everyone staring at him, he zoned out so didn't catch a word Denny or Heath said.
"Heath, leave him alone!" Bianca orders just as the door opens wide. Thankfully, it is Tamara, Everyone is hoping she can improve Kyle's mood.
"Kyle!" Tamara yells and runs over to Kyle and hugs him as he stands up.
"Here we go." Brax and Heath both whisper earning them both hits on the shoulder by Ricky and Bianca.
"I'm so sorry, Kyle. I just wasn't in the right headspace, and I took it out on you." Tamara apologises and kisses her boyfriend on the cheek.
"It's okay, Tam." Kyle smiles and kisses her back. He turns back to the family and sees the look that Bianca is giving him. He has to talk to Tamara about what he and Bianca were discussing. "Babe, can we talk in my room," Kyle whispers, causing Heath to make a whistling sound.
"Shut up Heath," Tamara barks at Heath. She knows that Heath would have been annoying Kyle.
Tamara then turns to Kyle and smiles at him. "Sure, baby." She grabs Kyle by the hand and begins to lead him to his bedroom.
Ricky and Bianca look at each other and share a small and hopeful smile.
...
Tamara and Kyle get to Kyle's bedroom and shut the door. Tamara can see the baby clothes all neatly put away in the corner of the room.
"I am sorry, Kyle. I just flipped out. I know what you were saying," Tamara says and is happy to see a smile on Kyle's face. He never is someone to hold a grudge.
"And I'm sorry for calling you a walking thesaurus." Tamara grins sheepishly.
At this point, Kyle gives a small chuckle. "I've been called worse." He smiles lightly and grabs his girlfriend's hand and takes her over to his bed so that they can sit down. He has to get this off his chest.
"I'm worried Tam. I promise you that no matter who the father of the baby is, I will be here for you... But I'm worried it's not going to be me. Sometimes I feel like my life is a big joke. Sure I have a great family and a beautiful girlfriend, but there have been so many things that have happened in my life that have sucked! My mum died on my birthday of all days. I was a punching bag for ten psychopaths in training in high school, I was in foster care and made no friends while I was there, even they hated me and thought I was a major geek! I only ever had one friend in total while I was in high school and I never had a real family until I came here. And that's what I want, Tam. My own family. And I know that Casey is going to turn out to be the father because that's how much my life sucks," Kyle blurts out. He is extremely grateful that Tamara didn't interrupt him.
"Kyle, I know you've had a tough life and I'm so proud of the man that you have become. Those people in your past had no right to treat you like that. You are amazing! You are caring, smart, strong, brave and extremely hot!"
They both laugh at this until Kyle shyly looks away. "I love you so much and there is nothing that anyone could say that would ever change that. Okay?" Tamara whispers in Kyle's ear and kisses him on the cheek.
"I love you too." Kyle grins and kisses his girlfriend back.
Tamara slaps her hands against her thighs and pushes herself up onto her feet.
"I'm starving, can I have some dinner, please?" She asks.
"Sure," Kyle laughs, then grabs her hand to lead her out to the dining room.
"That was quick!" Heath laughs. "Ow!" he then yells as Bianca hits him.
"Leave your brother alone!" Bianca glares.
Kyle sits down, and Tamara sits on his knees. "I'll just eat your food baby." She laughs.
"Sure." Kyle laughs. "Not like I was eating it or anything."
Tamara turns to looks at him and grins before she continues to eat his food.
...
Three days later…
The day has finally arrived; they are finally going to find out who the father of the baby is. Everyone has been treading carefully around the two youngest Braxtons who everyone knows could flip out at any time.
"Alright you two, now remember that this baby is going to be a part of the family no matter whose kid it is, so I don't want any sulking or arguments, okay? Tamara needs a happy family to bring this little baby into," Brax explains, looking at his two youngest brothers, who immediately roll their eyes.
"We know, alright, Brax?" Kyle sighs, thinking that this whole conversation is ridiculous. "And we don't sulk," he adds, crossing his arms over his chest.
Brax scoffs at that. "Sure, you don't." He then walks away and allows his brothers to continue to get ready to leave.
"You okay, Ky?" Casey asks. He is nervous, and he knows that Kyle is too.
"Yea, just nervous. But I'm excited as well. Kind of a weird feeling." Kyle smiles a small smile.
"Come on, you two, we've got to go," Tamara says. She grabs Kyle's hand and walks with him to the car. Casey gets up and grabs Denny's hand.
"Ready to see if I'm the baby daddy, babe?" Casey asks.
"Sure. Either way, it's going to be so cute! Have you thought of names?" Denny asks. Casey turns to her, thinking that she was getting too excited too soon.
"We don't even know what gender it is going to be," he says and laughs.
"So?" Kyle asks, laughing. "I've thought of a few. For girls: Izzy, short for Isabella, Lilly, Amelia, Lucy, or Olivia. And for boys: Jake, Liam, Jax. Max, Jayden or Zeke." Kyle smiles and leans down and kisses his girlfriend.
"You're such a girl. Dude, you've got months to figure all this out." Casey teases.
"I'm excited! Leave me alone." Kyle moans. "What is so wrong with looking forward to possibly having a kid," Kyle argues.
Tamara and Denny roll their eyes. They can already tell that there is going to be another argument between the two brothers.
"No Kyle, telling everyone about it is what people do when they are excited about a baby, not buying everything that you need and talking about baby names." Casey smirks and shoves his brother lightly.
"Well, I happen to think that it is adorable." Tamara grins.
"Of course you do, you're the one that is dating him." Casey laughs.
Kyle opens his mouth to shut his little brother up but then closes it when he realises that there is nothing that he can say.
"Will you be quiet Casey, Kyle can't help that he's a softy." Denny smiles.
"I'm not a softy!" Kyle argues. Sure he gets excited about certain things, but he is not a softy.
Tamara laughs and kisses her boyfriend on his cheek. "Baby, you are the biggest softy I've ever met."
"Yea, Kylie." Casey smirks.
"Shut up, Casey!" Kyle, Tamara and Denny say together.
...
Kyle is looking at the door every time it opens, hoping it's Nate.
"Kyle, It's okay. Nate will be here soon." Tamara laughs as she grabs Kyle's hand.
"I know, I just really want to know," Kyle mumbles. He doesn't think he can wait any longer.
Just then the door opens and out steps Nate. Kyle immediately stands up and drags Tamara into the room before Nate even has a chance to say, "come in."
They are soon followed by Denny and Casey. Who immediately take a seat in two of the four available seats. Nate walks over to his desk and looks at them all.
"Of course you're here for the results of the paternity test?"
With a nervous glance at Tamara, Kyle focuses on Nate when he gives a sheepish nod. But the doc merely smiles at him, waving a hand at the two available chairs in front of his desk.
"Why don't you two sit down?"
"Can you just tell us? Please?" Kyle asks.
Tamara looks up at her boyfriend, and tugs at him.
"Come on," she whispers, "Nate is right. Let's sit. Remember? Pregnant woman here."
Her smile is genuine and gets Kyle to relax a little bit, then follow her to the offered chairs. They've barely sat down, when Nate pulls out an envelope with paperwork, putting it in front of him.
"You're in luck. I just got them. Would you like to open this yourselves?"
"Could you…"
"Ya, absolutely." Nate gives her a sympathetic look, then busies himself with the envelope while the couple stare at him intently. There's a lump the size of a boulder building in Kyle's throat as he watches the doc read through the medical paperwork, his expression focused. Surely he's going to look up in a second to deliver the final blow.
But then Nate does look up, and there is a big grin on his face when he looks from Tamara to Kyle, holding the results out for them to see.
"Kyle: the results couldn't be clearer. With a probability of 100 percent you are the father of this child, Kyle. Congratulations."
And just like that, all the tension leaves Kyle and he turns to look at his girlfriend, a surprised if happy expression on his face as she smiles right back at him.
"You're going to be a dad," she says, leaning in a little and at that moment, it all really sinks it.
Casey smiles at his older brother, he is stocked for him.
Because it's true, it's confirmed. Kyle Braxton is going to be a father."
