Kyle and Tamara are walking into the house together holding hand, Casey and Denny are right behind them. They walk in to see that Bianca and Ricky are both in the kitchen cooking up something for the men and Brax and Heath are happily sitting on the couch with a beer watching the league game that is on. Chip packages are screwed up on the table and Kyle can see that there are a couple of empty beer bottles on the table as well.
Suddenly everyone turns to look at the four young adults that have just walked into the room.
"Well?" Bianca asks with a massive grin on her face.
"I'm the Dad." Kyle's smile is contagious as he's putting his hand on Tamara's stomach. The others begin to cheer, Ricky and Bianca walking over to both give Kyle a small kiss on the cheek, and hug Tamara, while Brax and Heath ruffle up their younger brother's hair.
"Congrats, mate," Brax says with a big grin before he quickly hugs Tamara. "Well, I'm looking forward to having a mini-Kyle or mini-Tamara join the family."
A moment passes, then he looks at Casey, who doesn't seem upset that the kid isn't his. With relief, Brax bridges the small gap between them and pats his shoulder.
"Sorry Case, I would have been just as happy if the kid was yours."
Casey chuckles.
"It's okay," he allows, "but I feel bad for this kid if its a boy. He's not going to have facial hair until he's in his twenties." Casey smirks as he nudges Kyle slightly, who rolls his eyes at him, giving him a small shove as he forces a smile.
"You're such a comedian Case." Kyle laughs his brother's comment off before going over to sit on the couch with Tamara, fully aware that giving his brother any other reaction would just result in more ridicule. Him and Tamara make their way to the now vacant couch and sit down. Kyle knows that Tamara is tired and needs to sit down and he wants to sit next to her.
"Well, we will have to celebrate," Bianca announces just then and walks closer.
Bianca walks up and down drumming her fingers together like she is thinking of something. She then stops and gasps. "I've got it! You two, go somewhere," she orders. Kyle and Tamara exchange a glance and shrug. When it comes to Bianca, it is best not to argue, so Kyle grabs Tamara's hand and pulls her up.
"Alright, alright. - How does a walk down to the beach sound, babe? Then maybe a nice muffin and coffee at The Diner. I'm just hoping that we won't be attacked with questions once we get there," Kyle says as he winks at Bianca.
"What exactly are you accusing me of, Kyle?" Bianca folds her arms, glaring at Kyle questioningly, and he can't help but laugh.
"Gossiping to Irene," he says as if it is obvious, only to duck the cushion Bianca throws at him.
"Go, Kyle!"
"Come on, baby." Tamara tugs at him, growing shy the longer they stay. She doesn't want everyone to make a big deal out of it, but she knows it is going to happen, no matter what.
"Be out for a few hours," Ricky interjects, pointing toward the door with a telling look. "Why don't you go to a movie, eh? Because you won't be gone for long if you just walk down the beach..."
Tamara tries not to make a face, but Kyle merely chuckles. He's used to this, the constant bossing around by the rest of his family. But to her, this is all new, the constant butting in and fussing and being told what to do.
Something tells her she's going to have to get used to it...
"Fine," she therefore gives in, her grip on her boyfriend tightening. "Let's go, Kyle. I want to see that new romantic movie in the movie theatre anyway." Sighing, she drags him with her by the arm.
"Thanks, Ric," he mutters with a mock-glare as they pass her by, and Ricky tries to stifle a laugh.
"A romantic movie sounds like the perfect idea," Heath butts in with a pat on Kyle's back as laughter breaks out around them.
Kyle rolls his eyes at them all, then shakes his head.
"Let's get outta here, Tam," he then mutters before they finally close the door after them.
It takes the rest of them a while to calm down, but eventually the laughter finally subsides, accompanied by stern looks from Bianca.
"Okay," she says when she has everyone's attention, "Brax and Heath, you organise the alcohol, Casey the food and Ricky and I will invite the guests." She turns around and grabs her bag only to turn back and see that no one has moved. "Now, boys!" she yells.
Rolling their eyes, the boys all start to move. "I'm going to kill Kylie when I get my hands on him," Heath grunts as they walk out of the house. "Now I've got to give up my day so we can get a party ready for him."
Casey grins at him, shoving his shoulder playfully.
"Its fine, besides he organised your engagement party, this is the least you can do." He chuckles, watching Heath's grumpy expression falter. His brother always moans about having to do stuff for someone else, and while it is often tiresome, it is also funny. This grown man sometimes still acted like a small child.
"No, the least I can do is nothing," Heath replies, rolling his eyes.
"Heath, all we are getting is beer. It's not that bad." Brax laughs. "Look, it'll take us an hour tops, and then we will get to laugh when everyone is making a big deal out of Tamara and Kyle, and we get to sit back and enjoy," he says, smiling at his two brothers.
"Alright, but I'm going to embarrass him." Heath huffs. He and Brax get into the Ute while Casey uses Ricky's jeep.
"Oh please, like you need a reason to embarrass him, you do it every chance you get." Brax's wide smirk makes Heath open his mouth, then close it again before he has another go.
"He's my little brother," he says. "There's a reason."
...
The movie theatre is not busy around this time of day. It's still early, most people at work, but Kyle doesn't mind. It'll be nice to have the theatre almost to themselves - even though he could definitely do without watching that romance.
Waiting in line to get some snacks, he snuggles up a bit to Tamara.
"Babe, this movie looks tragic. Honestly, it's obvious that they are going to end up together. Do we have to waste all this money to see something that I already know is going to happen?"
Tamara raises an eyebrow and smirks at her boyfriend, then focuses back on the cashier. "Hi. Can we please have two large combos. Some red liquorice. Ohh and two boysenberry ice creams and a bag - no two bags of m&ms," she says and the cashier nods as Tamara turns back to Kyle.
"Go on, babe, give the man the money."
"Baby, there's no way you'll eat that much... There's no way I'll eat that much." Kyle laughs.
"Kyle, I want all this food. Are you seriously going to argue with a pregnant woman." Tamara glares at him, pretending to be angry, but he doesn't fall for it.
"You know what, chuck in another liquorice." Kyle tells the cashier. There is no way that he is going to piss off his girlfriend.
"You got it," the man says before he busies himself with the order, and Tamara leans in, whispering, "Good choice."
"Yea, like it was a choice."
Kyle sighs as they both grab their food, then walk over to go see the movie. He and Tamara take their seats and Kyle immediately starts to eat popcorn. If he's stuck here, he'll at least pig out on food. Suddenly, Tamara leans over and kisses him on the cheek.
"I haven't said yet how happy I am that you're the father. You'll be an awesome dad."
"And you'll be a great Mum. The best," he replies as he turns to kiss Tamara back. "And I'm sorry about complaining about seeing this movie, you want to see it, and that is all that matters to me." He pushes a strand of Tamara's hair behind her ear, getting lost in her eyes.
"Thank you," she mutters, both of them having a moment before she abruptly sits up again. "Now can you please pass me some red liquorice I'm craving." Tamara says.
As the lights finally dim down and the screen lights up, they both slouch down a bit more. Kyle looks at Tamara, who is smiling, and he can't help but smile as well. This movie might not have been his choice, but at least Tamara is happy.
Turning to face the screen, he forces himself to focus on the movie, only to overhear two girls behind him proclaim that the lead actor is "so hot!" Rolling his eyes to himself, he slouches down even more, preparing himself for a long hour and a half of more of this.
...
After the movie is finally over and Kyle can sigh with relief, he and Tamara decide to walk to a nearby cafe for a is a cute little cafe and the two of them are by far the youngest in it. It is filled with groups of old ladies and men. Kyle likes it that way though. He likes it quiet and chilled out.
Kyle is currently stirring his coffee as he tries to avoid looking at Tamara, all he can think about is that soon he is going to get a text saying that they are ready for them and that will mean that all the attention will be on him and Tamara and that is something that petrifies him. He hates attention!
Tamara looks at her boyfriend who has not looked up from his coffee cup for at least 3 minutes. "Baby, You okay?" Tamara asks and when she doesn't get a reply she reaches over and places her hand on his arm. "Kyle."
Kyle suddenly looks up. "Huh?" He questions as he did not hear a single word that his girlfriend said.
"You okay?" She asks again, as she reaches her hand over and runs it through his hair she knows that something is up with her boyfriend but she can't put her finger on it.
"Yeah, I'm all good." Kyle replies and looks back at his coffee. He doesn't want Tamara to know that something is wrong as it is something she shouldn't have to worry about.
"Alright, hey baby can you please go get me something nice to eat?" Tamara asks as she wanted to send her boyfriend away so that he is able to focus on something else rather than stirring his coffee.
"Sure." Kyle replies, frankly he can't imagine eating anything else but it's what Tamara wants and he will do it to make her happy.
At the table Tamara shakes her head as he watches her boyfriend nervously walk up to the counter. He is clicking his hands as he walks, there is obviously something up with her boyfriend but she was going to leave it for now as she knew that he doesn't want to talk about it.
...
"Thanks, baby." Tamara smiles as Kyle places a cheese and bacon scone in front of her. The table was small and didn't have much on it rather than glass jar filled with different types of sugars.
Kyle chuckles. "I'm shocked you can still eat after all that food. I'm so full I can barely move." He knows that he has to change the way he is acting because Tamara isn't stupid she will know that something is up.
"Oi," Tamara protests, leaning over a bit to smack his arm. "I'm eating for two!" Then she takes a bite of the scone. "Oh my gosh. This is so good. You need to get the recipe off of them so that I can have more."
"Two, not two hundred," Kyle whispers to himself as he drums his fingers on his coffee cup.
"What was that?" Tamara squints at him. She knows exactly what he said, but maybe she should give him this opportunity to fix it.
Kyle smiles innocently at her. He really doesn't want to get into an argument with her over nothing. "I said, I'll go and ask for the recipe."
"Thanks," Tamara mutters, smiling as she watches him walk up to the front. He really is sweet and caring, and seeing him awkwardly ask for something they probably don't even provide, makes her chuckle to herself. The way he ruffles the back of his hair as he is talking to the waitress, makes her chuckle wane and turn into a loving smile.
When he eventually walks back to her with a big grin on his face, carrying a bag with many scones in it, she can't help but beam back at him.
"Sorry, babe. She said that she has no idea, but I got ten for you, so we can put them in the cupboard and heat them up in the microwave when you want them," he says and hands the paper bag over.
"Thanks, baby. You really are the best," Tamara replies and kisses him on the cheek.
"Yea, just don't let the boys know, they already tease me enough," Kyle mumbles to himself, but smiles when he sees Tamara's happy expression.
Just then, his phone beeps and Bianca's name appears on the screen.
"Ahh, looks like we've got to go. It's ready... - whatever 'it' even is." He exchanges a glance with her. "Should we just see another movie instead? Or drive to The Gold Coast and go to all the theme parks?" he suggests, only half joking, and Tamara laughs. she finally figured out why he is acting so weird.
"What is it with you and not liking parties, you spoilsport?"
He makes a face, reaching out a hand to help her up. When she takes it and he pulls her toward him, he allows, "I hate all the attention. Seriously, it makes me nervous when too many people make a big deal of me."
What he doesn't say is that he's had enough of the bad kind of attention to last him a lifetime, and that that is a big part of the reason why he prefers to stay under the radar. He doesn't want to spoil everyone's fun, he really doesn't. It's just… parties, and the attention coming with this whole baby-thing really aren't his favourite.
"I get it," Tamara soothes, interlinking her arm with his as they get ready to leave the cute little cafe behind. "I don't like it too much either. But these are our friends and family, and they are doing it so that they can show us how happy they are for us."
Kyle nods. "I know, I know, but maybe we could avoid it all for a little bit longer. You know, so I can avoid my brothers teasing me."
"It'll be fine. Denny, Bianca and Ricky will make sure that they don't tease you too much, besides if we don't show up, Bianca will kill you." She laughs and drags Kyle towards the exit.
"But Andy will also be there, and he's like a third older brother," Kyle whines. He can't help it, he simply wants to avoid his brothers and people like Andy for just a little bit longer.
Tamara nudges his side, shaking her head. She sees that they are getting closer to the car and she knew that the closer they got the more nervous Kyle is going to get. She begins to steer Kyle towards the car before turning to him with a humorous expression.
"Quit being a baby. Look if we do this now, then we will get to relax, and we won't have to do it again." Tamara laughs as she tries to reason with her boyfriend. She pushes him towards the driver's door and stares at him.
"Look," she adds. "it's your choice: you can either be embarrassed by your brothers and Andy or get killed by Bianca and Ricky." Tamara shrugs, grinning, then gets in the passenger side of the car.
Kyle tilts his head back and groans, glaring at the sky above him as if it had any advice for him. Then he gets into the car as well, turning the key in the ignition.
Immediately, Tamara shoots him a curious glance.
"So where are we going?" she asks, fairly sure that she already knows the answer.
"Home." Kyle sighs and starts to drive back.
Tamara can't help but laugh. Her boyfriend is so predictable.
