A/N-

Hello you crazy bunch, I had a look at the story stats earlier today whilst I was taking a break from writing and its so interesting to see how far reached this story is, I saw there was a reader in Bermuda, Lithuania and even Russia! it really does amaze me, So I would just like to take a moment to say hello to those three readers, thank you for joining us on this journey.

Just to give you a heads up of what to expect here, I am currently in the process of writing chapter 32 and we are still in the first month since 'the fall' as i call it... also known at the day the shit hit the fan haha. I am having so much fun writing this, it is honestly just writing its self and as I am still off on the sick it is keeping me out of mischief and stopping me from being completely and utterly bored rigid. I go for a procedure on Saturday to try and establish what is actually wrong with me, because its in my abdomen everyone just keeps shrugging and passing the buck to the next person I see but I finally got someone to agree to do some testing as I have now been ill for 4 weeks :(.

Anyways enough about me, how are you all doing, the stats show there are plenty of people reading, not many reviews which is ok, I'm just glad people are reading. Please though, if you have a spare second, drop me a quick review even if its just to tell me where in the world you are reading from... or to tell me im doing a rubbish job haha.

On with the chapter. Not long until Arizona will come crashing into Callie's life now.

After her lunch, Callie got back to work. she made her way over to the roundabout, the final entrance into the estate, and surveyed the damage. There were cars smashed into other cars, bodies laid everywhere and worse, bodies stumbling around the area.

Callie sat in the cab of her vehicle and counted the heads of those bodies stumbling around, there was five in total and all five had honed in on her vehicle and began stumbling towards her. Before she could lose her nerve or double guess herself she grabbed the axe and jumped from the car. She made her way towards the closest infected. It had its arms stretched out towards her and was snapping its jaws angrily towards her as it stumbled uncoordinatedly towards her. She took a deep breath, stepped forward and swung the axe towards the side of its head with all of her might.

The axe sunk into the infected head and as it dropped the weight of its body pulled the axe free. Callie stumbled at the weight shift but quickly corrected herself, she spun on her heel and located the next closest infected. She marched towards it as she reared her arm back preparing to swing, this time as the axe struck it splattered blood all down her face and clothes, she fought the sickness that began to rise at the thought of infected blood on her skin but she was committed to seeing this through. She found the next infected and saw that it was closer to her than she expected.

She took several steps backwards and glanced around her to locate the remaining two infected. Seeing that they were quite far away and so she returned her attention towards the infected shambling towards her. Just as it got two steps away, she swung her axe with all her might and hit the infected right between the eyes, this time the axe stuck as the body collapsed, ripping the shaft from her hand. She put her foot on the dead infected's head and pulled the axe hard but it was jammed. She kicked at the shaft several times to loosen the axe then pulled again just as she felt something grab her left arm. Callie spun around and shoved the thing in the chest with all of her body weight it tripped and fell to the floor.

The Latina turned to grab the axe and pulled it free and out of the corner of her eye she saw the fifth infected approaching her. She glanced behind her to see number four still on the floor trying to stand up, so focussed on number five and rushed towards it, swinging the axe as she moved into the things neck, half severing the head from the neck so she swung again and finished the job. Before the body could fall to the floor she flipped to behind her where number four had finally gotten to its feet.

Shifting the position of the axe in her hands, she swung it like a baseball bat straight into the things face and it crashed down to the road and Callie heaved a sigh. She marched back towards her crew cab and tossed the axe in the back in disgust, It was covered in blood and gore and she didn't want it anywhere near her. She grabbed a towel she kept in the back of the cab and wiped her face down. Next she grabbed her bottle of water and gulped greedily from it. Once clean and rehydrated she glanced at the five bodies in utter disgust, killing them had been a lot more energy zapping than she had thought it would be and she was glad it was over.

She climbed into the back of the cab and curled into the foetal position as tears sprang to her eyes. She couldn't believe she had today killed six beings. In that moment it didn't matter to her that they were infected, that they would have killed her had she not disposed of them. It didn't matter that they were no longer people but instead filthy cannibals intent on spreading their disease. She sobbed for the lives lost, for the bodies she had dispatched and silently prayed for souls to make their way to heaven.

She lay like that for fifteen minutes, her sobs finally decreasing until she lay with her eyes shut breathing heavily. Finally, after mentally berating herself for falling apart, she rose from her position and stretched out the kinks in her back. From her elevated position she surveyed the area around her. There were seven cars around the roundabout, and five dead bodies. Ignoring the dead bodies for now, she jumped down from the cab and set about positioning the vehicles across the lane entering and exiting the roundabout, it only took six cars.

Again, she searched the vehicles and didn't find much apart from some empty bottles in the footwell of one car that was clearly a works vehicle, so she deposited them in her boot to fill up with water back at the house. Once complete she dragged the five bodies into a pile, poured some turps from her boot onto the pile and set them alight with a lighter she kept in the glove box of her crew cab for emergencies. Once the pile of bodies was alight, she said one more prayer for them before jumping in the vehicle and driving back to the estate. She glanced down at her fuel gauge and smiled when she saw the almost full tank. If she didn't venture far from the estate the tank would last her quite a long time.

As she drove past her house, she glanced at the decomposing body in her front yard and sighed, this was a nightmare and she hadn't seen a single other living soul all day. She felt very alone and very disheartened. As she pulled the big vehicle into the garage and clicked the door shut, she remembered all the work she had completed that day and smiled softly to herself. It had been a hard day; it had been an emotionally draining day. All she wanted to do was take a hot shower to wash the gore off of her and have a hot meal.

Freshly showered, she sat eating a mixture of items from the fridge, a selection of boiled vegetables, fresh meats and cheese. Once finished eating she washed the days dishes and placed them on the drying rack before moving to the couch which sat at the far end of the open plan kitchen, diner and living room. She grabbed the closest book and curled up on the couch under a blanket and read until light became too dark to see, then she made her way into the loft to get an early night. She was mentally and physically drained and although she had made a great effort today in securing her home estate, she still had a long way to go before she would feel safe enough to sleep in her normal bed.
