Our story begins in Cerea Village, a lovely little town with good people. It was a fairly safe town where families could grow and thrive. And among them was the Mundi family.
There was a kind Cerea named Ki-Adi, a real family man. And he wasn't alone either. With him lived his wife Shea, and they had seven daughters. Sylvn, Marcy, Leena, Miara, Harley, Dali, and Fortuna.
All of them, though, they'd had to have them through surrogacy and egg donors.
Sadly, as much as Ki-Adi and Shea tried, they just couldn't get pregnant in their own. Shea tried not to show it, but her husband knew she was disappointed. And then, happily, as though by some miracle, Shea was finally pregnant with a healthy baby boy.
In light of this miracle, Ki-Adi saw to it that the family was moved to a new home that was bigger and would be a perfect place to raise their new son and their daughters.
"Lovely, isn't it, my dear?" said Ki-Adi, looking outside as other children were out playing at the park.
"Very much so, Ki." said Shea.
"It truly is a nice place to call home. The girls are happy, there are great schools around the district, but I worry sometimes for our son, how he'll feel being the only boy."
"He won't be the only man, though. He'll have Daddy to teach him to be a strong young man." Ki-Adi said, but then his smile turned to a look of worry. "But what if he doesn't like me?"
"Ki-Adi, he's your son. He's bound to love you. He's your son."
Ki-Adi looked out as his daughters were playing and then at his wife. All seemed like it couldn't be more perfect.
And when Ki-Adi tucked his youngest children into bed and saw each of his daughters fast asleep, and he kissed his wife goodnight that night, he really felt blessed. He had a wonderful wife, seven beautiful daughters, and soon he would have the baby boy he'd been wishing for for as long as he could remember.
But, like any good thing, that wouldn't last forever.
Sometime, late during the night, Ki-Adi heard a noise. He woke up and rubbed his eyes to see that Shea wasn't in bed anymore.
At first, he thought maybe she'd just gotten up to get water or use the bathroom. She was close to giving birth, but he decided to check on her just in case.
But when he got out of bed, he found Shea hiding behind a wall, as a group of intruders had broken into their house. And they were getting very close to the children's rooms.
"Shea, don't!" Ki-Adi whispered.
Ki-Adi knew that if the intruders saw either of them going to protect the children, they would find them more easily. But Shea was so worried about the kids, she rushed in to protect them, only for the intruders to spot her!
"NO!"
Ki-Adi rushed in and tried to stop the intruders and protect his wife, but they threw him against the wall and knocked him unconscious.
When Ki-Adi woke up, he was in the middle of a run-down hospital, being helped by a medical droid.
"What? Where am I?" Ki-Adi groaned, holding his head. "Shea!"
Ki-Adi got out of bed, to the droid's objections. And he rushed out, looking for his wife and his daughters. But they were nowhere to be found. And then the doctors and the police gave him some heartbreaking news.
During the night, the intruders who'd broken into the Mundi house were no ordinary intruders. They were in fact part of a gang called the Sith, and they came to attack Cerea Village because they believed there were Jedi living there, and they sought to get rid of as many as they could. Unfortunately, all of Ki-Adi's daughters were terminated in that attack, and so was his wife and their unborn son. They burned down many homes too, including the Mundies'. Some were able to escape, but many lost their lives.
Ki-Adi was devastated with this news. He couldn't bear it at all, and so he ran out crying as a big rainstorm broke out.
The cerea was getting soaked, but he didn't care. He was filled with enough tears to make a storm this big. And this storm was apparently big enough to start a flood!
Quickly, Ki-Adi managed to get to higher ground... until he heard a sound of distress!
NEIGH!
Ki-Adi gasped when he saw a little green alicorn filly with orange and yellow hair struggling to stay above the water as she was carried away by it and headed for an open storm drain!
"Hang on, little one!" Ki-Adi said, jumping into the water and making his way to the foal, grabbing her just before she was swept down the drain.
The foal whimpered and shivered in Ki-Adi's arms, cold and wet.
"I've got you." Ki-Adi soothed the foal.
Ki-Adi made his way down the street to a shelter where everyone who'd escaped the Sith attack went for help with shelter and other help they required.
Ki-Adi managed to get some towels and a tub of warm water to give the filly a warm bath and dry her off.
The little horse shook herself dry after getting out of the tub, and Ki-Adi made sure she had not a single drop of water left on her.
"Poor thing. Your family must be worried sick about you." Ki-Adi said.
The little pony cooed and curiously looked about at her new surroundings, finding she liked playing with a ball that was among the few toys in the play area for little kids.
He noticed that the pony had a collar on with a tag. It might have contact information on it, he figured. So, he checked it, and it had a name on it Comedia, but no phone number, no address. Nothing. So, he asked the authorities for help, but according to them, Comedia didn't have a home.
It turned out, a lot of kids had lost their parents in the attack and were being placed in foster care. And not a lot of people were looking to take in a baby horse at the moment. Many said that alicorns required a lot of care and special treatment. But, Comedia was just a baby. He couldn't just release her out into the wild. Someone might kill her, or she might get hurt and not have anyone to help her.
So, as he fed Comedia a bottle of milk, Ki-Adi made a decision that would change his life forever.
"I promise I will never let anything happen to you... my daughter, Comedia."
