Chapter 060: Obi

Wistal Palace
With arms crossed and pillowed behind his head, Obi lounged in his favorite tree in the palace's inner courtyard. It was the perfect height with just the right amount of leaf coverage, and the branches were thick and healthy.
But it was his favorite because it overlooked a certain bedroom that housed a certain raven haired beauty that he may or may not be becoming obsessed with.
Cat-slit eyes observed as the object of his thoughts moved around the room. The smile on her face made his own lips twitch and curve upwards as well. Something warm always bloomed within his chest when he saw her. It had been like that since the moment he had first laid eyes on her. It was one of those things that just happened without reason.
"Well, better get to work," he spoke to himself, smirking.
Moving like a cat, he easily slipped from his branch and landed on the balcony. Without a sound, he opened the nearest window and entered on silent feet.
Despite his stealth, he wasn't able to sneak up on his intended target.
"Obi." Kagome smiled. "Good morning."
Obi bowed respectfully. "Good morning, Lady Kagome," he greeted back.
"How was your night?"
He smiled playfully. "Uneventful. Unfortunately," he answered.
"Unfortunately," she teasingly repeated, grinning. "Should I get kidnapped to add a bit of excitement back into your life?"
"Only if you allow me to be your kidnapper," he responded, half serious. "I'm sure I would fetch a hefty ransom for your safe return." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully as if truly contemplating the idea.
Kagome laughed, lightly slapping his shoulder. "Only you would actually think about kidnapping me and demanding a ransom." She gave him a considering look. "Although, as far as kidnappers go, you would treat me the best."
Obi nodded in agreement. He gazed down at the raven haired beauty with soft eyes. "I would be any kind of guy you would need me to be," he said.
"I know that," she assured. "Ever since Izana assigned you to be my bodyguard, you've fulfilled multiple roles that have done nothing but benefit me."
He shrugged casually. "Bodyguard. Babysitter. Makes no difference to me," he playfully said, smirking in amusement.
Gasping in mock-outrage, she said, "Babysitter?"
"Face it, Lady Kagome. Every time you travel outside of the palace's protective walls, you attract trouble like a magnet." And he wasn't exaggerating. The raven haired beauty needed extra protection anytime she needed to leave the country. While Obi was very good at his job, he was also only one man.
Her face scrunched with a sour, pouty face. "I would still say that's a bodyguard's role," she said.
Obi chuckled. "If that is what you wish to believe." He would never admit out loud that he enjoyed his duties if they involved Kagome. There was always a sense of contentment when she was around. And since she was constantly in danger, it meant he could stick close to her.
"It is," she replied, nodding decisively. Then her expression lightened as she remembered something important. "Oh, there's a party that I have to attend tonight. You'll be my escort, right, Obi?" She gazed at him with pleading eyes. As if he would say no to her.
"Any kind of guy you want, that's the guy I'll be," he replied, "my queen." He would do anything for her; be anything she needed. He would devote his entire self to one Queen Kagome Higurashi-Wistaria.
