Chapter 074: Fai D. Flowright

Fai stealthily made his way around the forested clearing, making sure his steps were light and his clothes didn't rustle with his movements. He couldn't help the carefree smile on his face. He was too excited about the prospect of finally gaining the upper hand on a lovely, powerful priestess named Kagome.

It had started as a complete accident. It happened during a journey that he and the others had taken to another dimension, and they had stumbled upon Kagome. Fai couldn't resist the amount of magic her petite frame gave off, having never met another being who could match his magical ability. The two had struck up a quick friendship, and Kagome had even helped them retrieve another feather for Sakura.

However, with the feather found and with its rightful owner, it meant Fai's time with the raven haired beauty was over. It had been difficult to say goodbye – Mokona had even grown quite fond of her – but after several days, the happy-go-lucky magician had found a way to hop back into her dimension. And he hadn't stopped visiting her since then. There was just something infinitely intriguing about the raven haired beauty, and he was drawn like a moth to flame.

Fai briefly stopped, his eyes scanning the area for Kagome's location. His senses were tingling with her magic saturating the air, his leanly muscled body practically humming with anticipation. He felt like a hunter stalking his prey. His entire focus was on his current target and he didn't plan to stop until he found her.

There she is, he thought, smiling widely. On quick, silent feet, he took off in the direction he felt her magic coming from like a beacon. This time… This time for sure I'll have her!

Making sure he stayed upwind, the handsome blonde eyed his target critically. His smile widened even more if possible, the raven haired beauty seemingly oblivious to his presence. It was the perfect setup. He couldn't have planned this moment any better.

Fai made a move to pounce, but froze instantly when her voice broke the stillness in the clearing.

"Fai, I see you've come to visit me again." There was a distinct note of amusement in her tone. They have played this particular game dozens of times. By now, she knew most of his tricks.

The magician huffed, pouting sulkily. "I still don't know how you do that, Kagome-chan," he said. He crossed his arms over his chest. "Even though you claim to be blind, I don't believe you. I think you just want others at a disadvantage." Inwardly, he thought it was a smart tactic. Others would underestimate her – and that would be their last mistake.

Kagome softly laughed as she turned to face him. She slowly opened her eyes, revealing the cloudy, unseeing amethyst orbs hidden by thick, sooty lashes. "Despite what you and others may think," she said, "there is no way for me to hide my… affliction." Closing her eyes once more, she smiled with her usual sunny disposition. "Besides, you're very easy to identify."

He arched a curious brow. "Oh? What gave me away?"

"The scent of gardenias."

"Gardenia?" he questioned, confused.

She took the couple of steps it would take to almost invade his personal space, though Fai would never complain. Leaning forward, she purposefully sniffed his person. "Your scent," she responded. "Your natural scent is that of gardenias. It's a very distinct smell, Fai, and very lovely."

From some reason, her words made his cheeks heat with an embarrassed blush.

"No matter where you are, I'll be able to follow the scent of gardenias," she added, smiling sweetly at the flustered magician. "You'll never be lost – because I'll always be able to find you and bring you back."
