The heat from the summer sun was bearing down on him like an overwhelming wave. It caused lines of sweat to trickle down his face and back, becoming uncomfortable and sticky. He didn't know how much more he could take…
A sudden shadow, cool and welcomed, stood over his prone form. Gon reluctantly opened his eyes, wanting to see the cause. A wide grin overtook his boyish features, and he instantly hopped up to greet the newcomer.
"Kagome," he exclaimed enthusiastically. "You're here!" A happy laugh escaped the young boy.
"Gon," Kagome greeted back, smiling sweetly. "How are you?"
"I'm good. Are you here to visit Aunt Mito?"
Gesturing towards a basket she'd hooked in the crook of her elbow, she said, "Actually, I came to see all of you. I went to the market and found some wonderful watermelon. I figured this would be a great snack on such a hot day."
"What? That's amazing," Gon shouted in excitement, throwing his arms up in celebration. "You're the best, Kagome!" Without thinking, he hugged the raven haired beauty around the waist. Her natural sweet scent invaded his senses and he couldn't help the way he simply breathed it in.
Kagome may have been his Aunt's best friend, but she was considered special to Gon. Not only was she pretty, she was kind and pure. She always brought delicious snacks and she constantly supported his dreams and goals. He even enjoyed the few times she'd lost her temper.
Although he wasn't completely aware of his growing feelings for Kagome, Gon was absolutely positive about one thing:
"That's why I'm going to marry you when I'm older."
Kagome sweat-dropped. "Because I brought watermelon?"
It's been so long since I've last written anything... This chapter/prompt is my way of getting back into the groove, which is why it's so short. Still, I hope you enjoyed!
