Chapter 20 – Victor

"Promotion, Queen!"

Takeshi shouted upon arriving outside of the Student Council room, his Evil Pieces adjusting themselves to acquire the traits of Queen. So far, he hadn't encountered any surprises or traps as he entered the new school building, but he couldn't help but be wary. The odds had now turned against Riser, and there was no telling how he might react.

"With this, I'm all set." Takeshi said, bumping his fists together. "Now then…"

Takeshi turned his gaze to the staircase leading to the building's roof. Ever since he had entered the school building, he had been feeling Riser's aura, a feeling that was only getting stronger as he got closer to the roof. His prey hadn't moved ever since launching that saturation attack to save the remaining members of his Peerage.

[Finally, we get to have a real battle!] Grendel said. [Those little girls were a bore to stomp upon! Let's see if that so-called immortal phoenix will prove to be more of a challenge!]

"You know, there's more to life than battle, Grendel." Takeshi said as he went up the staircase. "Maybe you should try out a new hobby sometimes."

[Bah!] Grendel snorted. [What kind of nonsense are you spouting, whelp? A life without fighting is no life at all! That rush and excruciating pain you feel when both body and soul are close to being destroyed, there's no greater high than that!]

"I don't know why I was expecting anything different…"

Takeshi shook his head in exasperation, slapping his cheeks to focus. This was the time to decide everything. Kicking the door open, he stepped into the roof. A few meters away, Riser Phenex stood there, his arms crossed as he glared at Takeshi.

"It's only you, huh?" Riser grimaced. "I see. Rias is smarter than I gave her credit for. She sent you here to stall me, while she and the others deal with Ravel and the rest of my girls."

"That's the idea." Takeshi smirked. "If this was chess, I guess you're in 'check' right now? Looks like you underestimated us."

"…I will admit it." Riser said with a severe expression. "You guys are strong, stronger than I gave you credit for. No-one else has managed to push me this much during a Rating Game. No, there's a big chance I might lose here as things stand…"

After saying so, Riser spread out his wings of fire, a determined expression on his face.

"Even so, I will not back down here!" Riser bellowed. "I am Riser Phenex, a proud member of the House of Phenex, renowned as the immortal firebird and an incarnation of legend! No matter the odds, I will fight until the bitter end! At least you, I'll turn you to ashes, Evil Dragon User!"

"Nice guts!" Takeshi laughed. "I thought you were the typical stuck-up noble, but underneath all that pompous attitude and sneer, there's a real fighter there. However, you're out of luck. You might be the incarnation of a legend…but I'm where legends go to die."

"Aren't you full of yourself." Riser snorted. "You seem to believe that you can defeat me, Evil Dragon user. Not to mention, you fail to grasp how important this marriage is to the Underworld and its future. Looks like you still haven't learned your place."

"My place is right where it should be." Takeshi said, glaring at his opponent. "Between you and President. In order to protect her happiness and her future, I'll do whatever's necessary…even if this body breaks in the end!"

[At long last!] Grendel laughed. [It's as I told you before, you would come to depend on my power! Use it all, whelp! Let me bask in your pain as your body is ground to dust!]

As long as you give me the power to win, I don't care what happens to my body. Takeshi thought. We're going all out, Grendel!

[Deal!]

Grendel said while laughing as Takeshi raised his aura.

"Balance Break!"

[Atrocity Rise! Crime Force Awakening!]

An explosion of flames enveloped Takeshi's body, setting the area around the two combatants on fire. Riser enveloped himself in a wind barrier to shield his body from the incoming flames. Once the conflagration died down, Takeshi's armored form could be seen standing there, exuding a large amount of aura and pressure.

"Balance Breaker, Savage Predator Incarnation." Takeshi said with a low voice. "Can the so-called immortal Phenex withstand the power of the most vicious Evil Dragon? I guess we'll find out soon, won't we?"

"Yes, we shall!"

Riser shouted as his flaming wings expanded, a massive conflagration erupting from them and engulfing Takeshi. Not stopping there, Riser followed up with a large number of fireballs and several crescent-shaped wind blades that impacted Takeshi's position. He finished with three large flaming tornadoes, turning the entire roof into a charred and broken mess.

"How was that, Evil Dragon User!?" Riser laughed. "Have you come to understand the power—"

Riser's voice trailed off once the smoke cleared, revealing the unharmed form of Takeshi, who stood there as if he hadn't just received a High-class Devil's full-powered attacks.

"…Is that all?"

Riser's expression morphed into one of hatred at the presumed remark that his power was insufficient to even scratch his opponent.

"Don't you dare look down on me, you damn lowlife!"

Riser howled in outrage as a large number of magic circles appeared around him, unleashing a large number of fire lances and small tornadoes that struck Takeshi. However, once again, he was unharmed by the incoming attacks, which dissipated harmlessly on his armor's surface. An expression of shock appeared on Riser's face at this sight.

"How can this be…?"

"My turn."

Saying that, Takeshi surged forward, burying his fist in Riser's abdomen. He let out an anguished cry, spitting out blood. Takeshi's greaves ignited as his high kick send Riser flying, with Takeshi following after him and kneeing him in the back, breaking his spine. Riser's scream was cut off as Takeshi spun and delivered another flaming kick, sending him crashing down on the roof.

"Shit…!" Riser spat out, his regeneration mending his wounds. "This is the power of an Evil Dragon!?"

Takeshi descended, aiming another kick at Riser, who rolled back to avoid the blow. He attempted to take a few steps back, but slammed on an ice wall that had formed behind him. Before he could question what happened, a large number of icicles erupted underneath him, piercing his body in several places as he screamed in pain. Several ice spears came at him next, burying themselves in his body. Letting out an outraged howl, Riser unleashed an explosion of flames from his body, melting the ice. Snapping his fingers, he created several large defensive magic circles to stop the incoming Takeshi.

"That's…" Riser muttered, noticing that the energy lines on Takeshi's left gauntlet and greave had turned white. "Don't tell me…this Balance Breaker allows you to generate and manipulate ice as well!?"

"What do you think?"

Takeshi smirked underneath his helmet as he started hammering the magic circles in front of him with powerful blows, breaking them one after another. Before Riser could react, Takeshi was in front of him. His fist sent Riser flying once again, his tail wrapping around the High-class Devil's leg and slamming him down. The dazed Riser could barely react as Takeshi jumped up and delivered a powerful dropkick, breaking the roof and sending both combatants crashing into a classroom. Riser's fist was enveloped in a large amount of flames as he attempted to punch Takeshi, only to scrape and break his arm on his armor.

"Blast it!" Riser howled, cradling his damaged arm. "What kind of robust and coarse metal is this!?"

Takeshi didn't answer as he grabbed Riser's head, encasing it in ice. His follow-up punch sent Riser through another wall and into the teachers' lounge, shattering his head. However, flames erupted from Riser's throat, restoring it at once. He shot a powerful wind blast to blow Takeshi away, but Takeshi walked into it and grabbed Riser's arms, twisting them and breaking them. He then started tossing him around like a ragdoll, breaking all the desks around them, before tossing him through the door and shooting a large wave of flames at him. Riser barely managed to roll out of the way as the conflagration destroyed part of the hallway and the classroom across it.

"You…damn monster!"

Riser spat out as he started running, evading Takeshi's Dragon-shaped ice wave by ducking into a corner and tumbling down the stairs to the floor below.

"You're running away?" Takeshi said, grimacing underneath his helmet. "How annoying. I don't have time to play hide and seek here."

[You sure don't, whelp.] Grendel said. [You may be able to keep the Balance Breaker up for three hours now, but I would hurry if I were you. Otherwise, your body will—]

"Yeah, yeah, I know." Takeshi cut off Grendel's words. "I don't need you to remind me that."

After saying so, Takeshi started pursuing the fleeing Riser.

A few minutes earlier…

"It wasn't supposed to be like this! What the Hell!? How could Rias-sama and her Peerage become so strong in only ten days!? And why does it feel like they're not even trying all that hard to beat us!?"

"Calm down, Ravel-sama. Getting all worked up isn't helping us now."

Isabela advised the fuming Ravel. The remaining members of Riser's Peerage had gathered in the tennis court after pulling back thanks to Riser's interference. Both Ravel and Mihae looked exhausted, Isabela had small cuts throughout her body, and Ni and Li's bodies had prominent bruises in their limbs. Even a casual observer could tell that they wouldn't be able to keep fighting for long.

"Should we have gathered all members and stormed their base after all…?" Ravel muttered, biting her nail. "Maybe splitting up to draw them out and ambush them at the gym afterwards with Yubelluna was not the optimal strategy… Argh, it doesn't matter right now! Mihae, are the magic circles ready for deployment?"

"They are, Ravel-sama…" Mihae said, letting out an exhausted sigh as she wiped the sweat from her brow. "It's a good thing we prepared this place beforehand in case we had to fall back."

"Once the Gremory group shows up, we'll bombard them with the demonic power stored in those circles." Isabela said. "It should be able to take down one or two of them at least. But are you so certain they'll split up their forces, Ravel-sama?"

"They have to." Ravel said. "They can't risk leaving my brother unattended for fear of him attacking them while they're busy with us, and they can't focus exclusively on him for the same reason. Though I'm not sure how much aid we could offer in this state…"

"Over there, Ravel-sama! They're coming!"

Ni pointed at the sky, where three figures could be seen approaching the tennis court. Focusing on them, Ravel noticed that they were Koneko, Yuuto and Rias. The first two were flying ahead, while Rias was slightly behind them.

"Rias-sama herself has come out?" Ravel smiled. "Perfect. If we play this right, we might turn this match around. Take cover in the bleachers, everyone! I'll prepare our surprise!"

The members of Riser's Peerage did as Ravel asked, hiding near the bleachers. Once the three members of Rias's Peerage were almost directly above them, Ravel smirked.

"Check."

She snapped her fingers, with a large number of magic circles around the tennis court flaring up and unleashing a barrage of demonic power blasts that bombarded the three Devils. Their smoking bodies started falling to the ground, much to Ravel's joy. However, her elation soon turned to confusion when the bodies flickered and vanished before touching the ground.

"This isn't the retirement system's teleportation and there's been no announcement… Don't tell me!"

"Ravel-sama, look out!"

Isabela rushed to Ravel's side, pushing her out of the way. The next moment, a lightning bolt struck her. Isabela let out a cry of pain as she fell on the ground unconscious, with the light of retirement enveloping her.

[Riser Phenex-sama's Rook, retired.]

Grayfia's voice echoed as she announced Isabela's retirement.

"It can't be…the holy element!?"

Ravel cried out in alarm. The next moment, all five members of Rias's Peerage emerged from the nearby forest. Firing several bullets of Destruction at them, Rias obliterated the bleachers, forcing the remaining members of Riser's Peerage out in the open. As Yuuto conjured several swords around him and shot them at the members of Riser's Peerage, Pandora enveloped herself in wind once again as a rock gauntlet formed around her hand, aiming for Mihae. Before Riser's Bishop could react, Pandora struck her in the abdomen, with her gauntlet forming into a spike that pierced through her. Mihae fell to the ground as her body was enveloped by light and vanished.

[Riser Phenex-sama's Bishop, retired.]

"This is it for my Spirits…" Pandora muttered. "Both my stored reserves and the sealing formula are gone."

"How dare you do this to our teammates!?"

"You're going down!"

Ni and Li tried to aim for Pandora, only to receive several ki bullets on their backs that sent them flying. Before they could even think about getting up, Koneko was upon them, her body enveloped in pale light as she grabbed both twins' legs, slamming them on the ground. The dazed twins were unable to react as Koneko delivered two powerful punches, causing them to spit out blood and fall unconscious as their bodies vanished from the field.

[Riser Phenex-sama's two Pawns, retired.]

"Impossible…!"

Ravel said through gritted teeth, struggling to defend herself against Rias and Akeno's attacks. Compressing the Power of Destruction in the shape of a lance, Rias threw it at Ravel, shattering her defensive magic circles. Before she could recover, another shot of lightning, courtesy of Akeno, struck her body. Ravel screeched as she fell on her knees, her body smoking all over and her regeneration working much slower. She felt dizzy and faint, as well as a burning sensation going through her body.

"No mistake…" Ravel wheezed out. "That's…holy power… How…?"

"Ara, ara, that's my little secret." Akeno said, a sly smile on her face. "I guess you can call me the Priestess of Lightning from now on, ufufu~."

"It's over, Ravel." Rias said as her Peerage surrounded Ravel. "Surrender, and you won't have to experience any more pain. There's no point fighting anymore."

"I'm…not done yet…" Ravel said through gritted teeth, her hand behind her back as a magic circle appeared there, with the Phoenix Tear dropping out of it. "I will—"

Before Ravel could do anything else, Koneko dashed at her and delivered an uppercut that sent Ravel flying and crashing into the nearby debris. The blond-haired girl's eyes rolled back into her head as she lost consciousness from the damage she received from Koneko's ki-imbued punch, vanishing from the field.

[Riser Phenex-sama's Bishop, retired.]

"We did it, everyone!" Rias cheered. "With this, all of Riser's servants have been taken down. Only the King remains now."

"Having us use Yuuto-kun's swords to create illusions of ourselves was a good idea, President." Akeno said. "That last trap was quite nasty. It's possible some of us might have been taken down, or at least injured."

"…That didn't come to pass, so it's all good." Koneko said. "Was using your lightning alright, Akeno-senpai?"

"It's a little draining, but nothing too severe." Akeno said. "I only need to get used to it."

"Defeating Riser's servants here was good, but we're not done yet." Pandora said. "We need to get back to the new school building. Takeshi is still fighting from the looks of it, but he will need help."

"Right." Akeno nodded. "He's strong, but against a High-class Devil—"

The sound of a large explosion that seemed to reverberate through the entire field cut off Akeno's words. Turning their sights to the new school building, the members of Rias's group noticed that most of it seemed to be on fire, with clouds of smoke rising from it.

"That doesn't seem good." Yuuto said. "But is Takeshi-kun or Riser responsible for this?"

"Either way, it doesn't matter." Rias said. "Let's head there at once!"

[Yes!]

The members of Rias's peerage shouted together as they spread their wings and flew, heading towards the burning new school building.

Meanwhile…

"Damn Low-class scum…! To think I'd be driven to such a corner by him…!"

Riser said with a grimace. Having evaded Takeshi for now, he was at the school cafeteria, hiding behind a counter. While he loathed running away like a coward, he didn't see much point in staying rooted in one spot and bombarding an enemy who seemed to be impervious to all his attacks. Riser had heard rumors in passing once about how absurdly hard a Dragon's scales were, but he never thought he would get a chance to experience this in action so soon.

"That Balance Breaker…it must come from the Crime Force Dragon Grendel." Riser said, peeking out of the counter for any signs of Takeshi. "How in the nine Hells am I supposed to break through his armor though…?"

Riser tensed as he thought he heard the sounds of footsteps in the distance. His breath came out in quick gasps as he checked the entrance to the cafeteria, but saw no-one there. The only sound around was the crackling of fire that was starting to spread from the upper floors. Soon enough, the flames would engulf the whole building, though that was the least of Riser's concerns.

"Where are you…?" Riser murmured through gritted teeth, looking around nervously as sweat run down his forehead. "I should be hearing some sign of his approach by now…"

The next moment, the wall behind Riser shattered, with the armored form of Takeshi emerging from it. Riser barely had time to shriek as Takeshi stomped on his foot, breaking it. He followed up by letting out a howl that blasted Riser through the counter and into several tables behind him.

"Gah!" Riser shouted and cupped his bleeding ears, with both them and his legs catching on fire as they started healing. "How did you find me so fast!?"

"Echolocation through demonic power." Takeshi said. "Now, let's put an end to this, Riser!"

After saying so, Takeshi pressed the sides of his buckle twice.

[Charge! Atrocity Overflow!]

Following Cataclysm Zone's announcement, raging flames gathered in Takeshi's right gauntlet and waves of ice surrounded his left gauntlet. Thrusting his right fist forward, Takeshi unleashed a vortex of flames that enveloped Riser. He followed with a wave of ice that trapped both Riser and the vortex inside a large ice pillar. Crouching as he pulled his draconic aura-clad fists back, Takeshi dashed with the aid of his thrusters at the immobilized Riser, who was screaming in pain while trying to blow away the flames and ice trapping him.

[Violent Impact!]

The belt called out once again as Takeshi's double punch shattered the ice pillar and struck Riser. The blow sent the howling High-class Devil flying through several walls before he collapsed at the entrance hall.

"Did that do it…?"

Takeshi wondered. Due to the distance and copious amount of smoke, he couldn't tell what had happened to Riser. Judging from the lack of a retirement announcement, he assumed that his enemy wasn't down for the count just yet. He walked towards him, finding it difficult to breathe for some reason. The smoke wasn't too dense yet, so that couldn't be the reason for that.

Unless…

Any further thoughts about his condition where banished from Takeshi's mind upon reaching the entrance hall. As expected, Riser was still conscious, although his suit was in tatters. Several flames were flickering throughout his body, erasing the damage he had received. However, his wounds seemed to be recovering a bit slower. Riser also had a haggard expression on his face, his body trembling as he did his best to remain standing.

He's should be close to his limit. Takeshi thought. This might be the first time he received so much damage. It's only a matter of whether his demonic power or his mind will give out first.

"Damn…you…" Riser spat out as he made a large fireball appear on his right hand. "You're…quite persistent…aren't you?"

"You're a stubborn bastard yourself." Takeshi remarked. "I thought this would be enough to take you down, but you're more resilient than I gave you credit for. I'll finish you with this then!"

Takeshi attempted to raise his right hand—only for it to remain unresponsive. His vision was also swimming for some reason, and he found it more and more difficult to breathe.

[Such an excruciating amount of pain!] Grendel laughed, making his voice heard through the gems on Takeshi's armor. [Three of your left ribs have been broken, piercing your lung! Your right arm is also broken in five different places and several muscles in it have been torn! You might not be feeling it, but I can feel it all, and it's glorious! This is it! Pain so fierce that truly makes you feel alive! Keep fighting, and keep destroying yourself, whelp! Let's both fight until nothing remains of your body but a pile of ashes!]

"So, it's that after all…"

Takeshi said, a bitter smile underneath his helmet.

"You…" Riser said, an incredulous expression on his face as he stared at his opponent's limp arm. "Don't tell me…that Balance Breaker is destroying your body bit by bit?"

"It's the price Grendel…exacts from me." Takeshi wheezed out. "Feeling no pain…coupled with my body collapsing under the weight of his aura…makes for a really nasty combination."

"Are you insane, you bastard!?" Riser shouted. "You're using that power even though you draw closer to death the more that armor is on you!? Have you no regard for your life!?"

"I told you already." Takeshi said, glaring at his opponent. "Even if this body breaks, for President's sake and for my own pride…I will defeat you, Riser Phenex!"

Wrapping demonic power around his broken arm and forcing it to move, Takeshi slammed the sides of his buckle once.

[Charge! Atrocity Overflow!]

Seeing that another powerful attack was incoming, Riser gathered as much power as he could spare, unleashing a mix of fire and wind in the shape of a massive firebird at his opponent as he tried to fly away. Takeshi let out ice vapor from his mouth, freezing the incoming attack and shattering it with a swipe of his arm. He then stomped his foot on the ground. A thick sheet of ice spread around him, enveloping Riser's legs and immobilizing him.

"This is! Shit!"

Riser cursed as he shot flames at the ice in an attempt to melt it and escape. Not wasting this chance, Takeshi jumped up, spreading his wings as his right greave was surrounded by ice and the left by flames.

[Violent Blast Fever!]

Descending at Riser while ignoring the incoming wind blades and fireballs, Takeshi delivered a series of bicycle kicks at him, both fire and ice mixing together as Riser was pushed back and received damage all over his body.

"Victory was never an option for you!"

With one final dropkick, Takeshi shouted thus as he sent the howling Riser flying through the large double doors and into the new school building's front yard, where a massive explosion engulfed his body once again.

As he landed close to the area Riser had fallen, Takeshi dismissed his wings, only to fall on his knees as his legs could not hold his weight. He assumed that they had also been broken, both from the force of his attack and Grendel's influence.

"This had better be it…because I don't think there can be an encore…with my body in this state…"

Takeshi wheezed out. As the smoke cleared, the figure of Riser could be seen trudging towards him, a vacant look in his eyes and injuries all over his body.

"Shit…" Takeshi cursed. "Should I dismiss the Balance Breaker…and switch to Mayhem Striker regardless of the lifespan cost and leaving myself open…?"

Takeshi said as he tensed, bracing himself for an incoming attack. Just as Riser seemed he was about to raise his hand, he stumbled and fell on his knees. Then, he fell on the ground face first, his eyes rolling in the back on his head. A couple of seconds later, the light of teleportation enveloped him as his body vanished from the field.

[Retirement of Riser Phenex-sama, confirmed.] Grayfia announced. [The match is over. The winner is Rias Gremory-sama.]

"I did it…"

Takeshi let out a relieved sigh, a wide smile on his face. Then, taking as deep a breath as he could, he released the Balance Breaker. He couldn't hold back the scream that left his lips as he felt the pain from all the damage he had accumulated while using his Balance Breaker assaulting him all at once.

"Guess…I overdid it…a bit…"

Takeshi remarked through gritted teeth. Looking towards the sky, he noticed Rias and the others flying towards him, shouting something he couldn't hear. Mustering all the energy he had left for a V-sign, Takeshi fell down as he lost consciousness.

A while later…

"Ughhhh…"

Takeshi groaned as he opened his eyes. An unfamiliar ceiling was above him, and the bed he was lying on felt foreign. He was confused for a few seconds, but then the memories came back to him in a rush.

"…That's right, we had a Rating Game against Riser…and we won in the end." Takeshi muttered. "I lost consciousness…which means this must be the medical facility retired players are sent to…"

"…Senpai?"

Takeshi turned his sights to the left side of the bed. Sitting on top of it was Koneko, a relived expression on her face. Wasting no time, she put her arms around his neck and kissed him, with Takeshi wrapping his arms around her as he pulled her in closer. After a few seconds, the two of them separated, with Takeshi grinning.

"Now that's one Hell of a way to wake up." Takeshi said while smiling. "How long was out, Koneko-chan? Also, how are you and the others?"

"…It's been almost a day ever since you were brought in." Koneko said. "The rest of us are fine apart for minor injuries in some cases. After a check-up, we were discharged almost immediately. You're the only one who received so many injuries. I've been using my Senjutsu to aid in your recovery, but the damage you received was significant."

"No wonder I feel so refreshed despite my body being broken all over before." Takeshi said, flexing his arm. "Senjutsu is really handy. Thanks, Koneko-chan."

"…Don't mention it." Koneko smiled, but then her expression became serious. "However, even Senjutsu has limits. If you keep overdoing it like this…there might be no coming back at some point."

"Maybe, but it was necessary to test Grendel's Balance Breaker in actual combat." Takeshi said. "I need to understand its strengths and limitations in order to make full use of it in the future. Sorry for worrying you though, Koneko-chan."

"…It's alright." Koneko said. "I've already made peace with the fact that Takeshi-senpai will be a troublesome boyfriend. As long as you keep coming back to me though, I'm willing to overlook everything."

"Of course I will." Takeshi said, caressing Koneko's cheek. "What kind of lousy boyfriend would I be if I couldn't do at least this much?"

"…Senpai."

Koneko said as she embraced Takeshi once again, nuzzling against him. He rubbed the top of her head in a specific spot, eliciting a small purr from her. Seeing his girlfriend acting like a cat always made Takeshi feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Moments like these, he wanted nothing more than hold her close and never let her out of his embrace. At that moment, the door opened, with Rias stepping inside.

"Sorry, Koneko, but the chocolate candy bars were finished." Rias started to say. "I brought you—"

Upon noticing that Takeshi was awake, Rias stopped talking and rushed at him, throwing her arms around him and pulling him into a tight embrace. Takeshi was momentarily dazed, both from her sudden action and the pleasant scent coming from her crimson hair.

"Thank goodness…" Rias muttered, her face buried in Takeshi's neck. "The doctors said you'd make a full recovery, but I was so worried… Honestly, you're incorrigible. What happened to not being reckless?"

"I was reckless within reasonable bounds." Takeshi said as the two of them separated, with Koneko also taking a step back. "What's important is that I kept my promise. We won, and you're free, President. Hell, not only that, we also won sixteen to zero, a perfect victory. If that's not a reason to celebrate, I don't know what is."

"We'll get to that later." Rias said. "Your health takes priority above all. Is your body alright, Takeshi? Any abnormalities whatsoever? The doctors here are skilled, but there's always the chance they missed something. If you're feeling the slightest bit of discomfort, I'll—"

"Relax, President." Takeshi made a placating gesture. "I'm feeling fine, great even. Don't freak out over nothing."

"…President was very worried about you, Senpai." Koneko said. "Like me, she didn't leave your side ever since they brought you in except for a quick lunch."

"That's a given." Rias said. "You gave it your all for my sake, Takeshi. Being here for you was the least I could do in return. But to think you would end up in such a battered state because I still wasn't strong enough, I can't help but be mortified as your King…"

"And here I thought I'm the one who's always being too hard on himself." Takeshi chuckled. "You did nothing wrong, President. Sending me to face Riser was the correct choice, and it paid off in the end. This whole mess is behind us, and that's all that matters."

"I suppose…" Rias said, not looking fully convinced. "Either way…thank you, Takeshi. For everything you did for me, for pushing yourself past your limits, thank you."

"You're welcome, but this victory wasn't due to my efforts alone." Takeshi said. "The other members are just as deserving of your gratitude as I am."

"I've already given my thanks to the others as well." Rias said, smiling. "You were all wonderful during this game. I feel blessed to have encountered such talented servants. It makes me want to work even harder so that my caliber as a King matches your strength."

Takeshi nodded with a smile, but then his stomach started rumbling much to his embarrassment.

"Looks like someone's feeling hungry." Rias said with a smile as she stood up. "I'll see if we can get you something to eat, though the menu here might not be to your liking."

"…Hospital food." Koneko said, an expression of distaste on her face. "It's the worst."

"Can't argue with that." Rias said. "If you want me to bring something from outside, you only need to ask."

"No, it's fine." Takeshi said, making a dismissive gesture. "The way I am right now, I could even eat dirt and be satisfied."

"Very well."

Rias said as she stepped outside, leaving Takeshi and Koneko to chat about the game.

Meanwhile, in another room…

"Brother! You're finally awake!"

Ravel shouted as she burst into Riser's hospital room, a concerned expression on her face. Riser, who was being helped into a sitting position by a nurse, turned to his little sister with a small smile.

"Ravel…" Riser said, wincing a bit. "So, it was no dream. We lost the game…"

"We did…" Ravel bit her lip, a mortified expression on her face. "…I'm sorry, brother. If I was more useful, the result might have been different. Now, the engagement has been cancelled, and you've become a laughingstock in the eyes of the nobles who were watching the game."

"It's not your fault, Ravel." Riser said as he stood up with unsteady steps, rubbing her head. "As frustrating as it is to admit it…Rias and her Peerage were stronger than we anticipated, and they overwhelmed us. That's all there is to it. There's no contesting the results."

"Even so…I can't accept it!" Ravel shouted, stomping her foot on the ground. "We're supposed to be the invincible Phenex, yet we were brought down by a team of newbies that hadn't participated in a single Rating Game! Not to mention, what the Hell's wrong with that Evil Dragon User and his brutality!? Does he have several screws loose or something!? That crazy Low-class Devil could have very well killed you out there with his barbaric fighting style!"

"Now you're blowing this out of proportion." Riser said. "That man…had far greater resolve than me. The resolve to put everything on the line to achieve victory. Perhaps…that's what I lacked the most. My arrogance, above all, cost us the game."

"Brother?"

"However, this will not be the end of Riser Phenex." Riser said, clenching his fist with a determined expression. "No matter what others say about me or how many years it takes, I will get stronger. When I meet these guys again in the official game, the result will be very different. I will definitely avenge myself at that time. Will you help me, Ravel?"

"Of course!" Ravel said with an energetic expression. "After all, you're hopeless without me, brother."

"I guess I am." Riser laughed as he sat down on his bed. "In that case, let's get started by going over the game and see where we could have done better."

"I have some ideas about that already." Ravel said as she sat next to her brother. "Perhaps instead of sending Yubelluna, Marion and Burent to the gym, a better move would have been to—"

Like that, the two Phenex siblings spent the better part of the night discussing the game and their plans for the future.

Two days later…

"Huh, so the Underworld's sky really is purple. It gives off an indescribable feeling, that's for sure."

"I know what you mean, Takeshi-kun. That was my first reaction when I laid eyes upon it."

Such a conversation was taking place between Takeshi and Yuuto inside a large carriage. The members of the Gremory group had arrived at the Underworld through magic circle a while ago and had boarded a carriage waiting for them. Shortly after Rias's victory in her unofficial Rating Game, the Gremory family had announced that they would hold a large party in Iblis, one of the largest cities in Gremory territory, in order to celebrate. As the stars of the show, Rias and her Peerage had been summoned to the Underworld and were making their way to the party venue.

Due to the occasion, all members of the Gremory group were wearing formal attire prepared by the House of Gremory. Takeshi was wearing a black suit with a crimson finish, while Yuuto wore a similar outfit, only his was colored dark blue. Rias was wearing a crimson dress and was wearing her hair in a ponytail like Akeno, who was wearing a formal black kimono. Koneko was wearing a grey-colored dress, while Pandora wore a black dress similar to the one she wore while working with the Fallen Angels and a pair of opera gloves. Takeshi was sitting in the middle of one of the couch-like passenger seats, with Rias and Akeno to his right and left respectively, while Koneko sat on his lap. Yuuto and Pandora were sitting across them in the other passenger seat.

"I still don't understand why we need the carriage." Pandora said while looking outside, taking note of the several high-class palatial residences that were situated in floating pieces of land above the rows of plain-looking residences on the ground. "Couldn't we have teleported straight to the party hall through magic circle?"

"Blame tradition for that." Rias said. "At least the vibration-absorbing seals engraved on the carriage means we can travel in comfort."

"Plus, there are other benefits to this method of transportation that a magic circle can't provide." Akeno said, a mischievous smile on her face. "Like this one."

Akeno edged closer to Takeshi, her bountiful breasts pressing against his arm. Not wanting to lose, Koneko leaned back, nuzzling against Takeshi with a playful smile on her face. It was taking all of his self-control to prevent his face from turning beet red and his erection from hitting Koneko.

"Ara, you're looking a bit flustered there, Takeshi. Is there a problem?"

Rias let out a playful smile of her own as she also leaned on Takeshi, her head resting on his shoulders and her breasts pressing against him as well.

We may be in Hell, but why does it feel like I'm in Heaven?

Takeshi thought while grinning a bit, putting his hands around Rias and Akeno and pulling them closer. Neither of them seemed to mind, their smiles becoming wider. Across them, Yuuto chuckled at that scene.

"If the other boys back at school could see this, they'd be crying tears of blood." Yuuto said. "I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to lynch Takeshi-kun."

"Yes, I can see why that might happen…"

Pandora said, a dissatisfied expression on her face as she started at the scene before her eyes. A small part of her felt envious and wishing she could be in any of these three girls' places, but she silenced that part.

Stop it. Pandora thought to herself. Thoughts like these only invite disaster.

The rest of the trip passed by in an uneventful manner as the Occult Research Club arrived at the party venue, a large palatial residence fitting for a king. Once the carriage came to a stop in front of the entrance, Rias, Akeno and Koneko separated from Takeshi, straightening their dresses.

A valet opened the carriage door, making a small bow to them. Takeshi and Yuuto stepped off the carriage, with the former helping each girl down as well. Rias wasted no time in entwining her arm around Takeshi's. The young Devil turned to Koneko, but she shrugged, as if to indicate she had no problem with that.

"I'm surprised though." Takeshi said to Rias as the group ascended the large steps. "Your family throwing this grand party for your first victory was something I didn't see coming. I thought they'd be incensed that you broke off the engagement."

"Oh, I'm sure they're not too pleased about it, but there's nothing they can do about it now." Rias said, a smug look on her face. "They were the ones who agreed to the game and the conditions in the first place. Also, this party is more for their benefit if anything else, an attempt to use this occasion as a means to curry favor from nobles who view them in a negative light after the supposed stunt I pulled with the Fallen Angels."

"Is it alright to have such a cavalier attitude about this whole state of affairs, President?" Takeshi asked, a concerned expression on his face. "I mean, I understand bearing a grudge towards your parents for trying to force you into an early marriage with Riser…but isn't the reputation of your family kind of a serious issue?"

"It is, and from my side, I intend to obtain enough achievements to not only restore it, but elevate it as well." Rias said. "I can still resent my parents for their attitude though. At least for a couple of months or so. Don't you think so?"

"I'm not sure what to say here without coming off as biased." Takeshi said. "But if you want to elevate the Gremory family's status, I'll do all that I can to support you. I owe you that much after that stunt of mine that landed us here."

"Oh, stop it already." Rias said, slapping his arm. "You damaged your body and risked your life for me during the Rating Game. You've more than made up for whatever mistakes you committed. If anything, I'm the one who owes you now."

"Does this mean my punishment is no longer in effect?"

"I'll cut the time in half, but nothing more than that." Rias smiled. "I'm grateful, but you still need to do something about that reckless streak of yours. The punishment will hopefully serve to drive that point home."

Takeshi was about to respond when the group reached a large set of double doors. The servants on either side opened them, with the Occult Research Club stepping inside.

"Whoa…"

Takeshi muttered as he observed the interior of the spacious hall, which was as big as three football courts. It was filled with lavish decorations, a large number of tables with a wide assortment of food and drinks on them, and several ornate chandeliers were hanging from the ceiling, their soft light illuminating the great hall. A large number of nobles accompanied by their servants could be seen scattered throughout the hall, either deep in conversation with each other or busy gorging themselves.

Upon taking notice of the group, a servant standing a few steps away from the door spoke with a loud and clear voice that echoed throughout the hall.

"May I present the Lady Rias Gremory and her Peerage!"

Most nobles stopped what they were doing and turned to stare at the group. Takeshi noticed several appraising looks, some curious ones and more than a few hostile ones among them. He couldn't help but think that the Gremory family's efforts to gain favor were doomed to fail on some level.

[Such a large amount of malice wafting in the air.] Nidhogg chuckled. [How refreshing. And here I thought this would be a boring night. This should be somewhat relaxing at least.]

[Would be even better if there was a fight going on here.] Grendel grumbled. [Oh, do you believe some fool might try to assassinate you, or better yet, pick a fight with you, whelp? I hope something like that happens! The phoenix brat was a good warmup, but I could go for some more action!]

You might want to, but I don't. Takeshi retorted in his mind. So, keep your head down and your mouth shut, Grendel. Same goes for you, Nidhogg. I'm not in the mood for your nonsense.

[Someone's getting carried away with his insolence.]

[A coward as always!]

Takeshi tuned the two Evil Dragons out, focusing instead on the nobles that had approached Rias.

"That was a wonderful match, Lady Rias!"

"You family must be very proud of your accomplishment."

"Winning against an up-and-coming team like Lord Riser's while you had no prior experience, this speaks volumes about your talent."

"We'll be watching your future career with great interest. Who knows, if it's you, you might even place among the Top Ten. No, even the Champion's seat might not be too farfetched."

The nobles around her seemed intent on buttering up Rias, who was smiling and treating them with as much respect as possible. Takeshi couldn't help but admire her composure and her acting skills. If it was him, he wouldn't be able to help himself and would probably deliver a scathing remark or two at them.

"From the looks of it, President will be busy for quite a while." Akeno said. "You guys should go and enjoy the banquet. Yuuto-kun and I will go pay our respects to a couple of acquaintances here and join you later. Remember, if a noble Devil approaches you, be as polite as possible. You don't want them holding a grudge against you."

Takeshi, Koneko and Pandora nodded and headed for the buffet after Akeno and Yuuto had taken their leave. As usual, the moment Takeshi approached the buffet, all Devils around it scurried away. It seemed even they weren't immune to the trace amounts of draconic aura coming from his Sacred Gear.

"How convenient." Pandora remarked upon seeing this. "Looks like we don't have to worry about being accosted by annoying nobles as long as Takeshi is here."

"…Senpai is very handy indeed in such occasions." Koneko said with a small smile. "So, what should we start with?"

"You girls enjoy the food." Takeshi said. "I'm not hungry yet, so I'll eat later."

"…As you wish."

Koneko said as she and Pandora headed for the buffet. While they were busy sampling the food, Takeshi only had a drink in his hands as he kept his ears open and focused. Soon enough, he could hear fragments of conversations from the nobles around him.

"…Gremory family might be in deep trouble if a daredevil like Rias Gremory takes charge…"

"…arrogant if she thinks a mere victory against a rookie like Riser Phenex is a big accomplishment…"

"…rethink about the dealings we make with the Gremory family in the future…"

"…that beast being among us is sending shivers down my spine…"

"…they thinking, leaving that creature alive…?"

"…know, right? If the rumors…two Balance Breakers…too dangerous to remain alive…"

"…Lord Bael was right…dispose of…before it becomes too powerful to handle…"

"Calamity Witch…young, but beautiful indeed…maybe I should make a move regardless…"

Takeshi frowned at that last comment. Rias and her family being slandered was bad enough, but one of these slimes trying to approach Pandora with ill intent was something that crossed the line. Just as he was wondering if he should act in some manner…

"I wouldn't make any hasty moves if I were you. Noble Devils like them are all bark and no bite, so pay no heed to their ramblings."

Takeshi turned to the one who had addressed him. He was a handsome youg man that seemed to be a few years older than him with black hair and violet eyes. What stood out the most however was his height and muscular build, which were unusual among Devils. For some reason, his face also seemed familiar to him.

"I'll take your word for it, my lord." Takeshi said, recalling Akeno's warning to be respectful. "My name is Ryuugamine Takeshi, Rias Gremory-sama's Pawn. May I have the honor of hearing your name?"

"There's no need to act so stiff and formal with me." The young man smiled, extending his hand. "I am Sairaorg Bael, the next head of the House of Bael. You may use my first name. It's good to meet you, Ryuugamine Takeshi."

"In that case, feel free to call me Takeshi as well if you wish." Takeshi said, shaking Sairaorg's hand and noting the calluses in it. "But Bael…does that mean you're related to President…I mean, Rias-sama?"

"Her mother is my aunt, which makes Rias my cousin." Sairaorg said. "I must say, I was very impressed with your team's performance in the Rating Game against Riser Phenex. You will make fine rivals in the future, I'm certain."

"That's the plan." Takeshi said. "Is Sairaorg-san also aiming for the Champion's seat in the Rating Game?"

"My goal is a little higher than that, but a good performance in the Rating Game is a must for me among other things in order to accomplish it." Sairaorg said. "Rias might be my relative, but I'll show no mercy if we meet each other in the games."

"Neither she nor I would have it any other way." Takeshi smiled. "You know, for a noble, you're quite easy to talk to, Sairaorg-san. Is this some sort of trait among young nobles? That they're more relaxed compared to their adult counterparts?"

"Perhaps, though my circumstances are a bit special." Sairaorg said. "Considering I was born without the Power of Destruction, acting all haughty and arrogant would be ridiculous to say the least."

"Born…without the Bael clan's trait?" Takeshi frowned. "Is it alright for you to tell me something like this?"

"It's known throughout the Underworld, so it's no big deal." Sairaorg said, his attitude indicating that he didn't care. "Still, I hope you will not underestimate me because of that. Even without the Power of Destruction, I consider myself formidable."

Takeshi was inclined to believe him. His muscular physique, the atmosphere surrounding him and the force he had exerted during their handshake indicated that Sairaorg Bael was as strong as he appeared, and perhaps even stronger.

[I've met guys like him many times before.] Grendel said. [Determined and gutsy fellows like him were always the absolute best dish. Oi, start fighting him, whelp! I want to see just how strong he is!]

Not happening, Grendel.

"From what I've seen and heard, you seem to have awakened two Evil Dragons so far." Sairaorg said, appraising Takeshi. "If you manage to awaken all seven before Rias and I meet for an official match, nothing would make me happier. If I can overcome the Evil Dragon User at full power, I feel like I'll be able to rise even higher."

"I'll do my best to meet your expectations." Takeshi said. "But if that time comes and we fight, I'll be the one to win."

Upon hearing that, Sairaorg let out a wide smile.

"That's a good resolve." Sairaorg said. "In that case, I'll be looking forward to that time. I'm certain you'll give me the best and greatest challenge."

"Ah, you're there, Sairaorg."

A middle-aged, handsome man in a noble attire approached the two youths. He had long crimson hair that was tied in a loose ponytail with a black hairband, bright blue eyes and red stubble around his chin.

"Uncle, it's been some time." Sairaorg made a small bow. "Are you doing well?"

Uncle…and crimson hair. Takeshi thought. Then, as expected, that man is…

"You must be Rias's Pawn, the current Evil Dragon User." The man said, turning to Takeshi. "I am Zeoticus Gremory, Rias's father and the current head of the House of Gremory. A pleasure to meet you."

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, sir." Takeshi said, bowing to Zeoticus. "Rias-sama has always spoken highly of her parents."

"Has she now?" Zeoticus said, a bitter smile on his face. "That might have been the case once, but I'm not so sure now. Sairaorg, I met Lord Furcas on my way. He told me he would like to speak with you about something regarding his son."

"I see." Sairaorg said. "In that case, excuse me, Uncle, Ryuugamine Takeshi. I hope we can talk some more another time."

"Likewise, Sairaorg-san."

Takeshi said as Sairaorg took his leave, leaving him alone with the Gremory patriarch. He felt a bit uncomfortable being here with Rias's father, who probably wasn't too happy about his daughter having a dangerous existence like him close to her. There was also the fact that he shouldn't be too happy about the engagement's dissolution through the game, where he had played a major part by beating up the suitor.

"Alright, let's hear it, Zeoticus-sama." Takeshi said, deciding not to beat around the bush. "I'm sure you have a lot of complaints to make and several warnings to deliver. Am I wrong?"

Zeoticus stared at him for a few seconds before smiling.

"You're a courageous young man." Zeoticus said. "I can tell why Rias has taken such a liking to you. It's true that I'm concerned about the danger your existence poses, but you've proven yourself a dependable ally so far, and I hope you'll continue doing so."

"That was my intent from the start." Takeshi said. "What about the game and the engagement with Riser though? Are you dissatisfied with Rias-sama breaking it?"

"My feelings on the matter are…complicated." Zeoticus said with a grimace. "As the head of the House of Gremory, I am saddened by the fact that we lost the chance to strengthen our ties with the influential House of Phenex and potentially fix our damaged reputation. As a father though…I'm glad that Rias still has a chance to find a partner who truly cherishes her and vice versa. I was very lucky in that regard, and so was my son. I'd like nothing more than my daughter to have the same fortune as we did."

"I can understand the troubles you're facing to a degree, but I hope you will forgive me for standing with Rias-sama in this, both as a servant and as a friend." Takeshi said. "Her happiness is my first priority."

"Ara, such a resolute declaration. Reminds me of someone else I know."

A beautiful and curvaceous woman seemingly in her early twenties bearing a striking resemblance to Rias said so from the side. She had short flaxen hair and violet eyes, and she was wearing a pure white dress.

"Rias-sama's older sister…?"

Takeshi couldn't help but mutter so, prompting the woman to chuckle.

"Oh my, I can't say I'm immune to such flattery." The woman said. "I am Venelana Gremory, Zeoticus's wife and Rias's mother. I was eager to meet you for quite some time, Ryuugamine Takeshi-kun. May I call you Takeshi-kun?"

"Of course, madam." Takeshi said, bowing to Venelana. "It's an honor to meet you. I can see where Rias-sama took her beauty from."

"Ufufu, thank you for your kind words." Venelana said. "I trust that Rias has been treating you well."

"More than I deserve." Takeshi said. "If anything, I'm the one who's causing her trouble because of my status."

"Yes, to be honest, I was quite exasperated with Rias for bringing you in without consulting us." Venelana said. "That girl's rebellious streak can be quite troublesome at times. First you, and now the engagement. If only someone hadn't been spoiling her from a young age, perhaps we could have avoided this."

Venelana glared at her husband, who could only let out a nervous chuckle in response. From this exchange, Takeshi assumed that Venelana was the one holding the reigns of the Gremory household.

"Rias-sama isn't perfect, but she's more capable than you seem to think." Takeshi countered. "Please don't look down on her, Venelana-sama."

Venelana turned her harsh stare at Takeshi. Though he was momentarily intimidated by her intense gaze, he didn't back down, staring her straight in the eye. After a few seconds had passed, Venelana smiled.

"I see." Venelana said. "It's good to know that Rias has someone who cares so much for her. However, that doesn't mean I won't be watching you closely. If I judge your existence to be detrimental to the Gremory family, know that I will act regardless of Rias's protests. It's unfortunate, but I have to put my family's wellbeing above everything else."

"I understand." Takeshi said. "We all do what we must. For my part though, I will do my utmost to survive and support Rias-sama."

"See that you do, Takeshi-kun." Venelana said, turning to her husband. "Now then, we can't tarry here any longer, Zeoticus. Next, we need to greet Lord Amon and Lady Beleth."

"Do we have to?" Zeoticus said with a dismayed expression. "Lady Beleth is alright, but I'd rather not associate with Lord Amon."

"He's an important business partner, so we have no choice." Venelana said. "Come along now."

Once Zeoticus and Venelana took their leave, Rias approached Takeshi with hurried steps after a few seconds.

"Are you alright, Takeshi?" Rias asked, a concerned expression on her face. "Did my parents give you grief? I'm sorry I couldn't get here sooner, but greeting all these acquaintances of mine took a lot of time."

"It's alright, President." Takeshi said. "They were pleasant for the most part. Your mother was a bit severe, but it's nothing I couldn't handle."

"I'm glad to hear that." Rias said, looking around with a somewhat anxious expression. "Takeshi…would you mind accompanying me for a bit?"

"Sure thing, President."

Takeshi followed after Rias, who weaved through the dense crowd and led him to a small balcony to the side of the hall, closing it behind her and drawing the curtains, obscuring the two youths. Looking up at the starry night sky, Takeshi couldn't help but wonder at how much it resembled the human world's sky. Once again, he marveled at what magic could accomplish.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Rias said, gazing at the night sky as well. "You know, there were several protests from the old Devils when it was first proposed to adjust the Underworld's sky through large-scale magic, but all of them died down once they beheld the result. Lacking the pollution permeating the human world these days, I daresay this sky is even more beautiful than the original as things stand."

"Agreed, but I doubt you brought me out here to talk about the sky." Takeshi said. "So, what do you want to talk about, President?"

Rias started fidgeting for some reason, prompting Takeshi to raise an eyebrow at that.

"Well…you see…I wanted to thank you once again for giving it your all against Riser." Rias said. "Also…I wanted to ask…if maybe there was some special reason you fought so hard…"

Rias looked at him with a hesitant look, a small blush on her face. Takeshi could guess what she wanted to hear, and it was something that had troubled him ever since that night in the mansion when she had opened up to him about her goals and insecurities. His desire to help and protect her hadn't changed, but he couldn't help but admit there was something…more there.

On the other hand, there were his circumstances and the fact that he was in a relationship with Koneko. She had made it clear that she had no issues with a polyamorous relationship, which was the norm in the Underworld, but he wasn't certain he could handle it. He wanted some more time to consider all that, but Rias had cornered him here. He could ask her to wait, ask for more time, but it didn't feel right.

Am I being too soft? Takeshi thought. Perhaps…but I don't want to leave her hanging. Not to mention…I can't stand the thought of her being taken away from me. In that case…I suppose I should resolve myself.

"Takeshi…?"

Rias asked, feeling uneasy about Takeshi's lack of response. Taking a deep breath, he gazed at her and spoke.

"President…no, Rias." Takeshi said. "I…for me, you're a wonderful woman. You are kind and caring like no other, you can be innocent and sweet at times, and you're quite the romantic, not to mention how you always stood by me no matter what. It's for all these reasons…that I fell in love with you. I love you, Rias. That's why I gave it my all. Because, above all else, I couldn't stand the thought of giving you away to someone else."

Following Takeshi's confession, Rias seemed stunned for a few seconds, but then smiled and grabbed his arms, pulling him into a fiery kiss. Takeshi was surprised for a second, but he returned the kiss with equal fervor, putting his hands around her back and drawing her closer. Rias entwined her arms around Takeshi's neck, deepening the kiss as her tongue entwined with his. Their French kiss lasted for a few seconds before the two separated.

"So…dare I assume that you also like me?" Takeshi said, a playful smile on his face. "Or was that a thank-you kiss?"

"Dummy." Rias said, giving him a quick peck. "Of course I love you too. I was always fond of you, but before I knew it, these feelings blossomed into something more. Just like Koneko, I feel I can depend on you for anything, and your mere presence gives me strength. Also…you're the first person in a long while who actually looks at me as an individual, flaws and everything. That's why I fell for you."

"Regarding this confession, I guess you spoke with Koneko beforehand." Takeshi said. "That's why she wasn't sticking close to me this whole time."

"You got me." Rias said, making a cute gesture. "I wanted to be the first, but that girl got ahead of me. But it doesn't matter. If you love me as much as you do her, I'm satisfied."

"That I can promise." Takeshi said. "I don't know much about this whole harem business and have little experience with relationships in general…but I'll do my best. I only ask that you and Koneko be a little patient with my screw-ups."

"Don't worry." Rias said. "I'm sure it will take some time, but you will manage. After all, when you put your mind on something, you always give it everything you've got."

"That's my policy." Takeshi said with a smile. "So…what next? Back to the party? Or should we stay here for a while longer? Personally, I would prefer the latter."

"I was actually hoping we could take this to a more…private location."

Rias said, clasping Takeshi's hand as a teleportation magic circle formed underneath them. One flash of light later, the two of them found themselves in a lavishly decorated room, where the most prominent feature was the king-size bed in the middle.

"This is…"

"We're still within the building." Rias started explaining. "Party venues like this have several private rooms like this where noble couples can go and…unwind if need be…"

A healthy blush appeared on Rias's face as she said so, with Takeshi blushing as well upon realizing the implication of Rias's words.

"Rias, don't you think…we're going a little too fast here?" Takeshi said, clearing his throat in an attempt to regain his composure. "We only confessed to each other, our lips are still moist from our first kiss…and now you want to jump straight to sex? Also, what happened to the whole 'you'd be in trouble if you take my virginity before marriage' thing?"

"Seeing as I'm not engaged at the moment, there's no issue." Rias said, edging closer to Takeshi. "Also, when it comes to us Devils, and especially members of the Gremory family…we don't like to waste time. Unless…you think I'm unattractive?"

"That's not fair." Takeshi groaned, running his hand through his hair. "When you act like that…it's very difficult to restrain myself."

"Then don't." Rias whispered, her warm breath hitting Takeshi. "Show me…how much you desire me."

"I could hurt you…" Takeshi said, an anxious expression on his face. "If something happened to you, I—"

"It's alright." Rias smiled, caressing Takeshi's cheek. "There's no reason to be afraid. You could never hurt me. I trust you with my life."

"Alright…but you'd better not regret it later." Takeshi said, his arm around Rias's waist. "Also, for the record, I have zero experience in this kind of thing."

"That's alright." Rias said. "We'll learn together."

Wasting no more time, Takeshi captured Rias's lips in yet another kiss.

.

.

.

Feeling spent, Takeshi fell to the side, with Rias turning to the side and resting her head on his chest. He wrapped his arm around her, pulling her closer.

Both of them remained cuddling like this in silence for a couple of minutes, basking in the afterglow as they listened to each other's breathing and heartbeats. After some time had passed, Rias spoke with a smile.

"I could really get used to this…"

"Me too." Takeshi said. "I guess it felt as wonderful for you as it did for me?"

"Wonderful cannot even begin to describe this." Rias said, snuggling even closer. "I always dreamed how it would be, becoming one with the person I love, but this… I can only say my imagination was too poor. You were a bit rough at some points though…"

"Sorry, but in my defense, it was my first time, and you're just that beautiful." Takeshi said, kissing the top of Rias's head. "It was hard to restrain myself. But I'm always down for more practice."

"More practice, eh?" Rias said, letting out a sly smile. "In that case, how about we get started right now? From the looks of it, you're raring to go."

"Huh." Takeshi said, noting that his cock was erect once again. "That was quick. The wonders of Devil physiology, I guess?"

"Correct." Rias said. "It's very difficult for Devils to conceive, so we're designed as a species to have a briefer 'recharge' period, a trait carried to the Evil Pieces. So, about that practice…"

"I'm all for it, but what about the others?" Takeshi said as Rias started trailing kisses from his chest towards his neck. "Won't they be looking for us?"

"The other nobles will barely notice our absence, and the members of our group should have guessed my intent by now." Rias said, planting a kiss on Takeshi's lips. "Trust me, no-one will bother us. Until dawn, I'm all yours, and you're all mine. But can you keep going until then, I wonder?"

"That sounds like a challenge." Takeshi matched Rias's playful smile with his own. "In that case!"

Takeshi pulled the covers over the two of them as he pounced on Rias, who let out a mischievous giggle.

"Azazel, what the Hell are you doing this time?"

A middle-aged, gruff-looking man with black hair, a matching beard and a muscular body dressed in armor remarked upon watching Azazel fiddling with a strange device resembling a television set mashed together with a satellite plate and several antennas.

"Oh, if it isn't Baraqiel." Azazel said, several magic circles around his right arm and a tool resembling a wrench in his left hand. "Don't mind me. An interesting unofficial Rating Game went down a while back, and I'm trying to hack the Underworld's broadcast system in order to watch the reruns."

"Hack the…are you listening to yourself, Azazel?" Baraqiel sighed, rubbing his temples. "You do realize that the Governor General trying to break into the Underworld's systems is a major violation of protocol, right?"

"Oh, relax, would you?" Azazel made a dismissive gesture. "We're not doing anything bad here. It's just that Sirzechs' little sister is participating, which means I get to see the current Evil Dragon User in action. You know how rare it is to gather combat data on Cataclysm Zone in a controlled environment from a lucid user? I'm not passing up this chance."

"You and your crazy hobbies are going to get us all in deep trouble one day." Baraqiel said. "But Rias Gremory's Peerage… In that case, she will also…"

"Yes, Akeno will be there too as a player." Azazel said. "Don't tell me you're going to pass up the chance to see how your daughter's doing?"

"You sly fox…" Baraqiel grimaced. "Just…just hurry it up, would you? There are reports you need to go over."

"Will do!" Azazel replied in an enthusiastic manner. "Vali, how's the transceiver looking?"

"All set up here."

The one who had spoken while hovering in the ceiling was a handsome young man with light silver hair and hazel eyes, who wore a black jacket with matching pants and shoes, and a white shirt. He dropped down next to Baraqiel, who nodded at him.

"Vali." Baraqiel said. "You got roped into this as well?"

"Unfortunately." Vali shrugged. "I'd rather train, but Azazel insists this might be interesting. Can't say I agree with that though."

"Why?" Baraqiel asked. "You, of all people, should be interested in the Evil Dragon User?"

"I have no interest in rampaging beasts." Vali said. "They make for dull opponents."

"Got it!" Azazel exclaimed as the screen flared to life. "Am I a genius or what?"

The broadcast before them presented the two teams prior to the start of the game. Baraqiel focused exclusively on Akeno, an expression of longing and regret on his face. Next to him, Vali narrowed his eyes a bit before turning around and walking towards the door.

"Hey, where are you going, Vali?" Azazel called out to him. "Game hasn't even started yet. I thought you would be interested in this."

"I was, but I've lost what little interest I had now." Vali said. "There's no point in watching a match whose result I can already tell. Maybe I'll take a look at it later."

"What's his problem?" Azazel frowned once Vali left, before turning his attention back to the broadcast. "Oh, well. Guess he's in one of his moods again."

Meanwhile, Vali, who was walking in the corridor of the research lab, had a lopsided smile on his face.

[Why are you in such a good mood, Vali?]

"Fate truly works in mysterious ways, Albion." Vali responded to the voice that echoed in his head. "I can't help but be grateful for that though."

Vali chuckled, putting his hands behind his head as he kept on walking.

This concludes Chapter 20. First, in response to your questions.

To Ryukipendragon: No, Takeshi will only have whatever weapons are bestowed to him by his Sacred Gear.

The Rating Game has come to an end with Takeshi triumphing over Riser thanks to his new Balance Breaker, though he ended up being a battered mess in the end because of its demerits. Am I perhaps torturing him a bit too much? Nah, probably not…

Rias and Takeshi also confessed to each other and consummated their relationship. It was a bit fast admittedly, but my reasoning is that Devils don't waste time when they've confirmed their feelings and jump straight to the 'main course'. Since this was my first time writing a lemon, I really hope it came out alright. I was thinking of doing a 'fade to black' scene, but I wanted to challenge myself a bit. If it was a mess though and you believe leaving explicit scenes implied in the future is better, don't hesitate to tell me.

With this, the fourth arc has come to an end. Next chapter will be a bit of downtime before moving on to the Excalibur arc. As always, please read, review, favorite, follow, but most of all enjoy!

See you all next time!
