Chapter 27 – Summertime

"Ah, that was a great movie! Two lovers separated due to their warring countries, and yet their love managed to transcend even that hatred and become the bridge for peace. It brought tears to my eyes. Don't you think that was amazing, Takeshi?"

"It was a good movie, but I'm afraid I couldn't focus on it that much. Tearing my gaze from you was quite difficult, Rias. You showed me such a wide variety of adorable expressions that I felt I had to save them all in my memory."

"Oh, stop that, you."

Rias slapped Takeshi's arm, but she looked pleased. Since it was Friday night and no disaster had struck Kuoh Town as of yet, the two of them had seized this opportunity to go out on a date. Rias was adamant about catching that new romance movie that was all the rage among young couples right now, and Takeshi had complied, bringing the two of them to the movie theatre in Kuoh's department store. While he was fonder of adventure and fantasy movies, he didn't mind romance movies at all, and even found them charming at times.

"I can't believe May's ended and it's already June." Takeshi said. "Summer vacation is just around the corner, though I have to admit I'm looking forward to our pool cleanup."

"Oh, is that so?" Rias said with a mischievous look on her face, pressing her body closer to Takeshi's. "Any particular reason for that, I wonder~?"

"You know damn well what the reason is." Takeshi said. "You've been tempting me all this time with obscured shots of you in your swimsuit. If you're trying to drive me crazy, it's working wonders."

"I can tell judging from your recent…enthusiasm when we're together in bed." Rias giggled. "Keep going like that, and I might actually end up getting pregnant despite the Devils' low fertility."

"That's hopefully something for the far-off future." Takeshi said. "At least a couple of decades or so. Neither you nor I are remotely ready for parenthood. Maybe I should start using protection after all…?"

"No need for that." Rias said. "I've been using contraceptive spells all this time, and their effectiveness is proven. I'm not about to take any chances either."

"That's good to hear." Takeshi said. "Now that I think of it, class observation is coming up as well. Will your parents be coming, Rias?"

"No, and don't you dare breathe a word to them." Rias said with a serious expression. "My mother is alright, but my father and older brother can get a little too enthusiastic. I won't have them embarrass me in front of everyone with their exuberant attitude."

"But that's such a shame." Takeshi said with a sly smirk. "The embarrassed and trembling Rias's cuteness would be out of this world, I'm sure, ufufu~."

"…Please don't mimic Akeno's behavior." Rias glared at Takeshi. "I'm warning you, Takeshi. If you try to pull something here, I won't forgive you."

"It's alright, it's alright." Takeshi said, giving a quick kiss to Rias. "I would never do anything that would make you unhappy. Besides, your parents and I have very little to do with each other as of yet, so there's no chance of a leak from my side."

"True, but better safe than sorry." Rias said. "Oh, we're here."

The two of them had arrived in front of a small store selling paints, plamodels, model-making tool kits and other such items. The two of them entered the store, with Rias looking around with the air of someone used to such places and knowing exactly what she needed. Taking a closer look at her purchases, Takeshi frowned as he took a guess.

"All this stuff…are you perhaps making a diorama?"

"You got it." Rias smiled. "Making maquettes in my spare time is one of my favorite hobbies. Oh, you should really see the diorama of Nijou Castle I made a couple of years back. I believe it's one of my best creations yet."

"That sounds really fascinating." Takeshi said with an excited look. "Hey, maybe you could teach me at some time. Perhaps we could make one together at some point."

"I'd love that!" Rias smiled. "The two of us spending time together like this, there's nothing that would make me happier."

Once Rias had completed her purchases, the two of them left the store and sat down to eat in a nearby fast food restaurant. As usual, Rias would attract both envious and dreamy gazes from those around them. However, regardless of their feelings towards Rias, everyone would freeze and avert their gazes as quickly as possible once they caught sight of Takeshi. Rias sighed at that.

"I swear, your intimidation is actually getting worse as time goes by." Rias said. "I guess it can't be helped since the Evil Dragons' power is growing, but isn't it a pain for you?"

"It is, but it's the least of my problems." Takeshi said as he took a big bite out of his burger. "If anything, I'm kind of relieved to know there's a legitimate reason everyone's so terrified of me. It was somewhat horrible not knowing why everyone would run away from you, or wonder if your old friends would act the same if you chanced upon them again…"

"When it comes to two particular old friends, it seems they had their own secrets." Rias said. "How do you feel about all this, Takeshi? Knowing that Leon is the Red Dragon Emperor and Vali is the White Dragon Emperor?"

"Honestly? I still have a hard time wrapping my head around it." Takeshi admitted. "Not to mention…I can't help but be a little scared of the future. The relationship between our respective Dragons is the worst, and I'm afraid it might drive us into conflict with one another. I promised Leon it wouldn't come down to this…but I'm still in a volatile state myself."

"But you have no intention of backing down, do you?" Rias said, placing her hand on Takeshi's own. "Ryuugamine Takeshi isn't the kind of man who lets small things like fate or ill-mannered Evil Dragons make them their plaything, right?"

"That's right." Takeshi said with a determined expression. "No matter the obstacles, I will keep moving forward."

"And I will be next to you, always." Rias smiled. "So will Koneko and everyone else."

Takeshi smiled, but at that time, his phone rang. Checking his messages, he was a bit surprised by the content of the most recent one.

"What is it?"

"I've got another reservation for tonight." Takeshi responded to Rias's question with a slight frown. "It's that rich weirdo that's always been asking for me over the past few days."

"Again?" Rias frowned. "I don't understand this. The rewards he gives are extravagant, but the requests themselves are…well, incredibly mundane. Going fishing with him? Playing poker? Buying bread in the middle of the night? And for all that, he's paid you with rare paintings, jewels and gold nuggets, which are rewards way above what these requests demand. It's mysterious."

"Maybe the universe finally decided to cut me some slack after all these life-threatening situations I've been finding myself in lately?" Takeshi suggested. "Devil King knows I'm due for some good luck in my life apart from my relationships…"

"Or there's more to that man than meets the eye." Rias said. "Something dangerous. Maybe I should come with you tonight."

"No, it's alright, Rias." Takeshi said. "You have your own work to do, and I can take care of myself if he turns violent or something. I'm the man who's taken down a Fallen Angel Cadre after all!"

"With plenty of help from a certain someone."

"Even so, the point still stands." Takeshi said. "True, there is some risk involved, but this is also a good chance to raise my value as a Devil even more. I'm not about to give it up by scaring off a potential gold mine like this guy."

"Just be careful, Takeshi." Rias said. "There are forces in this world neither you nor I can hold a candle to yet, and perhaps we never will."

"You know what they say." Takeshi smiled. "Never say never. But I'll make sure to stay on guard."

Rias nodded as both youths turned their attention to their food, making small talk as they ate.

Later, at night…

"Yo. Sorry for calling you again so soon, Devil-kun."

"No problem. It's my job after all."

Takeshi said while observing his new regular customer. He was a tall man who looked close to his early thirties with black hair, golden bangs and a black goatee. He wore a simple yukata and sandals, giving off a mysterious aura. He seemed like a foreigner, but Takeshi couldn't honestly tell.

With his appearance and overall atmosphere, he wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be some sort of crime boss, who was buttering him up in preparation for a major request like wiping out an enemy syndicate or something. Of course, he would turn him down at once if that was the case, but until then, he'd do his best to suck him dry.

"About tonight's request then." The man said as both of them stepped into the apartment's living room. "I bought a new racing game this afternoon, and I'm eager to try it out. How about you play with me?

It was yet another simple request. Takeshi shrugged as he took a seat next to the older man and grabbed the controller.

"You're on. But even if you're my client, I won't go easy on you."

"That sounds scary!" The man laughed as he took his controller. "I would appreciate it if you held back a bit though, since this old man is a beginner."

"Old man…?"

Takeshi raised an eyebrow as he muttered so. The man standing next to him could be described as many things, but old was not one of them. He couldn't help but feel he was joking with him. After all, he had refused to divulge his name so far, stating that it added to his aura of intrigue while laughing. Still, he couldn't help but feel slightly uneasy for some reason.

[Go!]

Following that announcement, both cars shot forward, with Takeshi's car taking the lead in the first turn. While he did his best to open up the distance, the man next to him spoke.

"Japan is a really nice place. There are a lot of interesting ways for someone to spend their time. Oh, by the way, I'm starting to get familiar with this. I should be catching up to you soon."

True to his word, the man manipulated his controller with dexterous moves as the distance between his car and Takeshi's started shrinking. However, Takeshi laughed.

"Not bad, so-called old man!" Takeshi said. "However, don't underestimate me! Feast your eyes on the full power of my driving technique!"

Takeshi's fingers were practically a blur as he manipulated his controller, with his car weaving and turning through the narrow streets of the course in high speeds with suicidal abandon. However, not once did it collide with the obstacles or flew off course. After a couple of minutes—

[Win!]

Takeshi's car passed the finish line, with the man's car following behind him after a while.

"Alright!" Takeshi made a V-sign. "How was that!?"

"Man, I lost…" The man sighed, and then smiled. "Not bad, Devil-kun. Or should I say Evil Dragon User?"

Takeshi felt his blood turn to ice. Someone addressing him by that title could only mean that they belonged to the supernatural side of the world. Before the man could even blink, Takeshi had leapt to the other side of the room, Cataclysm Zone manifesting around his waist, followed by Mayhem Striker.

"Oh, fast reaction and nice reflexes." The man smirked, turning his attention from the game to Takeshi's Sacred Gears. "I can see why Vali has taken an interest in your growth."

"Vali…you say?" Takeshi narrowed his eyes. "How do you know him? Who are you? Are you with Grigori?"

"Well, it's like this."

The man said as he stood up, spreading his twelve jet-black wings.

A Fallen Angel… Takeshi thought. And that number of wings means…!

"I am Azazel, the Governor General of Grigori and leader of all Fallen Angels under it." Azazel introduced himself, confirming Takeshi's suspicions. "Nice to meet you, Ryuugamine Takeshi."

"Nice to meet you…is what I would normally say, but considering you're the leader of an enemy faction, especially one that has caused us so much trouble lately, I'm reluctant to do so." Takeshi said, ready to activate his Balance Breaker. "I'm more curious as to what do you want from me, to the point you summoned me all these times. No, to begin with, how can you be in Kuoh without setting off our security systems? Don't tell me another traitor is involved?"

"One question at a time." Azazel said as his wings retracted into his body and vanished. "First of all, relax already. I know you must be leery towards us Fallen Angels, but if I wanted you dead or captured, I'd have done so already over the past days. As for why I'm here, it's for official business regarding the upcoming summit. I've received permission from Sirzechs and everything, which is why your security systems didn't react to my presence."

Azazel walked to his cellarette, taking out a bottle of whiskey and two glasses. After setting them on a small table, he spoke again.

"As for you, I called you here for two reasons." Azazel said as he poured whiskey in both glasses, offering one to Takeshi. "Fancy having a drink with me?"

"I'm seventeen." Takeshi said with a half-lidded stare. "I'm sure you're aware I can't drink alcohol yet as a minor."

"You're also a Devil." Azazel pointed out as he sat down. "Human laws and limitations mean nothing to people like you and me. Come on, give it a try. I guarantee it's not poisoned if you're afraid of that. We've already established the fact that I could have taken you down any time I wanted to if I wished so."

Takeshi contemplated this for a few seconds. Then, he let out a small sigh, dismissing his Sacred Gears and sitting across Azazel. It was true that whether he chose to fight or flee, Azazel could easily overpower him. Plus, he couldn't feel any hostility coming from the Fallen Angel. Lifting his glass, he took a sip from it, wincing as he did so.

"…Bittersweet." Takeshi remarked, setting his glass down. "Not really sure I like this."

"It's an acquired taste." Azazel smirked, downing his glass in one go before refilling it. "And if your life is going to be even half as interesting as I imagine…boy, you're going to need a lot of these down the line. Good thing beings like us aren't afflicted with alcoholic cirrhosis like humans are."

"Back to the matter at hand." Takeshi said as he took another small sip. "What do you want with me?"

"First of all, to thank you." Azazel said. "For being Vali's friend and all that. Kid really needed some semblance of a normal life after everything he'd been through back then, and you and the Red Dragon Emperor gave him that. I really appreciate it. But to think you were the Evil Dragon User… If I had known at that time, I'd have invited you to Grigori. Seriously, what a wasted opportunity."

"You make it sound like we have met before." Takeshi said. "But I don't remember something like that. A fellow like you would have definitely made an impression. Also, what's this about Vali going through stuff? Come to think of it, he never talked much about his family…"

"I only saw you once or twice from afar, so we haven't really met per se." Azazel said as he gulped down his whiskey again. "As for Vali's family, you'd better ask him that yourself. I'll only say that he had it quite rough before I found him and took him in. It's the fate tormenting all Longinus possessors, past and present. There's a steep price to pay for possessing such power, something which you should know very well."

"Tell me about it…" Takeshi said. "But why was Vali hanging out in my old hometown out of all places?"

"Truth be told, it was a random destination." Azazel said. "My Vice Governor, Shemhazai, insisted that I should take Vali in a place where no supernatural beings were present for a change of scenery. It worked wonders for him, but I'm afraid it wasn't that good for you."

"What are you talking about?"

"Even at that age, Vali was a genius that had already manifested Divine Dividing." Azazel said. "Of course, I had made sure to suppress its power, but even those minute amounts of draconic aura leaking from him influenced your Sacred Gear and caused it to start its awakening process. It probably did the same with the Red Dragon Emperor. Perhaps this was meant to be for one reason or another…"

"Regardless, I don't intend to hold this against you or Vali." Takeshi said, taking another sip from his glass. "Cataclysm Zone would have awakened sooner or later, so it doesn't really matter. Speaking of which, I guess that's the second reason you wanted me here."

"You catch on quickly." Azazel smirked. "My main hobby is studying Sacred Gears after all, and yours is among the most unique ones. I wasn't going to miss this opportunity for the world. It's a shame I don't have all my equipment here, but even that brief manifestation you showed me was enough for some first observations."

Snapping his fingers, Azazel formed a magic circle, with Cataclysm Zone's holographic image appearing there.

"Hey!" Takeshi shouted. "That's personal data thievery! Who said you could scan my Sacred Gear!?"

"Oh, don't get your wings all ruffled like that." Azazel made a dismissive gesture as he studied the projection. "It's to your advantage if I can understand more about this Sacred Gear. Perhaps I can give you some advice on how to use it more efficiently. Or perhaps how to avoid some actions that could hasten your demise."

"You still could have asked!" Takeshi said with an indignant tone. "Seriously, I think I can see the origin of Vali's attitude issues…"

Azazel ignored Takeshi, his transfixed gaze glued on the projection of Cataclysm Zone.

"Aren't you quite the beauty…" Azazel muttered as he rotated the projection before him. "These inscriptions on the belt…powerful arcane formulas in compressed forms from various Pantheons meant to seal and suppress. Hieroglyphs, Enochian symbols, Norse Runes, Aztec script, Olympus Linear, Sanskrit and others. Even so, that shouldn't have been enough to restrict seven powerful Evil Dragons. The system and makeup of Cataclysm Zone must be responsible…but what is the secret, I wonder? There are traces of the same origin as other Sacred Gears, yet the design appears far more complex and advanced. I can understand only ten to twenty percent of this Gear's functions. How fascinating…"

"So, do you have anything useful for me?" Takeshi asked. "Or are you just wasting my time for nothing while you're geeking out on your own over there?"

"Impatient, aren't you?" Azazel said. "I can tell you this for now. That little trick you pulled against Kokabiel, the simultaneous use of other Sacred Gears on top of your Balance Breaker? Don't use that at all if possible. You're putting too much strain on your body and soul since Cataclysm Zone can't regulate your power properly when focusing on keeping the amount of interference between your various Sacred Gears at a stable level."

"I had sort of figured that out on my own." Takeshi said. "But what do you mean by interference?"

"It's normally impossible for an individual to carry two Sacred Gears." Azazel began explaining. "Each of them interferes with the other's function and magnifies the burden on the wielder, resulting in either crippling injury or death. Well, there are some exceptions to that rule though. If said Gears are closely related and have a similar level of strength, it's possible for a single person to use several Sacred Gears, though there might still be restrictions. My experiments on that front haven't progressed that much to determine the exact aftereffects. Too few test subjects for that."

"I have a feeling I listened to something very concerning right now…" Takeshi frowned. "So, you're saying that Cataclysm Zone has a function that regulates the embedded Sacred Gears in it so that they don't interfere with each other too much. However, I'm causing problems for that function by forcing them to work together when they're not supposed to."

"Exactly." Azazel said, downing another glass in one go. "Cataclysm Zone is forced to work on overdrive to compensate and mitigate the adverse effects as much as possible, but it sacrifices other safety features to do so, resulting in accumulating damage. Seriously, I'm surprised how you pulled this stunt off in the first place."

"Lots and lots of training, to the point where I was spitting blood." Takeshi grimaced. "Sacred Gears are very malleable and respond strongly to their wielder's desire, so I thought I could make this work to improve my battle style. Looks like it's no good though, eh?"

"At least for now, no." Azazel said. "However, Cataclysm Zone is a one-of-a-kind Sacred Gear. If you progress even deeper into it and unlock more of its functions by awakening each Evil Dragon and their respective auxiliary Sacred Gear, it's likely new possibilities will manifest before you. But you will be tested by the system embedded into it in a very thorough manner before you're allowed access to its true power."

"Tested?" Takeshi frowned. "Then, all those attempts by the Evil Dragons to destroy me in one way or another are allowed by Cataclysm Zone's system as some form of twisted test? What the hell was Deus Trinity thinking when he designed it in such a way?"

"Beats me." Azazel shrugged. "I never understood his intent half the times, and his creations even less. But that's one of the reasons I can't stop studying Sacred Gears. Frankly, it's the only thing I respect Deus Trinity for. He left behind quite fascinating creations indeed."

"Only for that?" Takeshi raised an eyebrow. "Not for the creation of humanity? Or even the creation of you Angels?"

"When it comes to humans, Deus Trinity wasn't the originator of that idea." Azazel said. "I think the first Pantheon that created humans was the Hindu one, with the Egyptian and the Aztec ones forming their own 'prototypes' at about the same time. After them, it was Deus Trinity, the Greeks, the Norse, and all the others eventually."

Azazel took another sip from his cup before refilling it as he spoke.

"As for Angels, it's one of the things that has me really confused." Azazel said. "If it was me, I would have designed them in such a manner that would prevent them from falling. Then again, our deceased father was a huge proponent of free will. Said that it allowed unknown and unexpected possibilities to manifest."

"Does that mean the creation of Fallen Angels and Devils was his intent from the start?" Takeshi frowned. "Sounds kind of hard to swallow."

"I'm inclined to believe we were error codes in his 'program' so to speak." Azazel grinned. "Then again, like I said, I don't think I ever truly understood him. Maybe he expected this to happen, maybe he didn't."

Looking at the wall clock across him, Azazel sighed.

"Looks like our time is up." Azazel said. "If I hold you for too long, your master will start getting anxious and throw hissy fits next. I'd rather not have to deal with that right now."

"I guess this is the last contract between us." Takeshi said, finishing his drink. "In that case, we should talk reward now."

Azazel stared at him with a blank look for a few seconds before bursting into laughter.

"You sure have guts, kid!" Azazel smirked. "Asking for payment even though you know who I am now? That's not something most Devils would do."

"I'm not most Devils." Takeshi said. "Plus, you scanned my Sacred Gear without permission and didn't offer much in the way of information, so I'm charging extra this time."

"Greedy and relentless." Azazel chuckled. "You're on your way to becoming a fine Evil Dragon, you know?"

[You've got a long way until that point, whelp.] Nidhogg said. [Though there is some small potential.]

[But there are many things lacking.] Grendel said. [Someone like you could never hope to match us.]

[For starters, you should listen to my great advice more.] Orochi said. [Maybe if I get serious, you'll see my point of view.]

Before Takeshi could question Orochi, Azazel stood up, conjuring a magic circle and taking out a necklace with several precious gemstones on it.

"You can have this." Azazel said, tossing the necklace at Takeshi. "It's a rare piece with great value. Also, don't be a stranger, Ryuugamine Takeshi. I'll be in this town for several days, so feel free to visit me any time you want so we can study your Sacred Gear."

"Yeah, I don't think that will be happening." Takeshi said as he inspected the necklace. "I still don't fully trust you, Azazel."

"How obstinate…"

Azazel sighed as Takeshi conjured a magic circle beneath him, vanishing in a flash of light.

"Azazel…you say?"

Rias said, a shocked expression on her face. Taking a look around, Takeshi could see matching astonished expressions on the faces of his fellow Devils. Having returned a few minutes ago, Takeshi had just finished his report regarding the revelation of his mysterious client's true identity to everyone in the club.

"I can't believe the Governor General of Grigori would come here on his own when we had a major incident with rogue members of his organization not even a month ago." Rias said. "Even if he has my brother's permission, that's a little too brazen. Then again, he was never a reputable fellow to begin with…"

"He was probably curious about Takeshi-kun's Sacred Gear." Akeno said with a frown. "He didn't try to do anything to you, did he? Like threaten you or force you to use it?"

"Nothing like that." Takeshi said. "I did summon it briefly, but only out of shock once he revealed who he was. Then again, he was probably counting on that. But other than that, we just had a drink and made some small talk."

"…Drink, you say?" Koneko looked at Takeshi with a disapproving expression. "Have you started picking up bad habits already, Senpai?"

"Relax, it was just one time, Koneko-chan." Takeshi said, turning to Rias. "I don't think Azazel is our enemy, especially considering everything we know so far, but keeping our guard up a bit wouldn't be bad. Especially Yuuto and I. There's a chance he might be interested in Yuuto's new Balance Breaker."

"It's true that Azazel has a profound interest in Sacred Gears, and that his organization has been gathering capable wielders from all over the world." Yuuto said. "But I have no intention of joining him or anything like that. And if he tries to force us into anything, the two of us together will show him the folly of picking a fight with the men of the Gremory Peerage."

"Well said, Yuuto." Takeshi grinned. "But there's probably no immediate cause for alarm."

"That's right. Azazel is only being his usual flippant self."

A voice that didn't belong to any of the club members was heard all of a sudden. Turning their gazes to the direction where the voice came from, they saw a crimson-haired man standing there, a pleasant smile on his face. Next to him stood Grayfia, her usual impassive expression on her face. Upon realizing who that man was, Takeshi hurriedly kneeled half a step later than Akeno, with Yuuto, Koneko and Pandora following suit. Xenovia was confused for a bit, looking from the man to Rias a couple of times, but followed everyone's example as well.

"B-Brother!?"

Rias said, her voice an octave higher as she stood up. Sirzechs smiled as he spoke.

"Azazel is nothing like Kokabiel. He may act in a mischievous manner at times, but he's not interested in causing incidents. Ah, everyone can relax. I came here for private business, so there's no need to be so stiff."

The members of the Occult Research Club stood up, staring at the Devil King with guarded expressions. Takeshi couldn't help but feel trepidation on some degree. The man before him was Rias's brother, whom he never had the chance to meet before. He only knew from the others that he doted on his younger sister very much, which made him worried about his reaction to their relationship.

If he's overprotective to the degree where he'll vaporize the potentially troublesome boyfriend…

Oblivious to Takeshi's inner turmoil and worries, Sirzechs addressed Rias.

"How have you been, my dear sister? I hope you've been spending your time in a fun and productive manner…though I can't help but question your taste in decoration. This room looks like a murder scene. A place filled with magic circles, occult books and odd artifacts isn't really a room fit for a young lady."

"I beg to differ." Rias said, and then spoke with a doubtful tone. "More importantly, why are you here, brother? You should be swamped with work due to the recent incident."

"Why else?" Sirzechs smiled. "Classroom visits. The time for that is almost upon us. It's a given that I would be there. As if I'd miss the chance of watching my little sister working hard in her studies from up close."

"That was the one thing I wanted to avoid at all costs…" Rias muttered with a sigh. "I assume you're the one who told my brother, Grayfia?"

"Of course." Grayfia said. "I'm the one who manages the schedule for most of the Gremory family after all. It would be remiss of me to not inform my master when it comes to such crucial information."

Grayfia's expression had not changed, but Takeshi noticed that the edges of her lips were slightly upturned. She was probably amused at the thought of the flustered Rias while her brother gushed over her.

"Though I am quite busy with my Devil King duties, I managed to take a couple of days off just for this occasion." Sirzechs said. "It's one of my little sister's shining moments after all. Oh, Father will also be there too. Fufu, his excitement once I told him about it was quite the sight."

"Father too!?" Rias shrieked. "No, putting that aside, you're the Devil King Lucifer, brother! A Devil King shouldn't be taking days off from his work for such mundane reasons or show such favoritism to a single Devil!"

"Now, now, Rias, there's no need to worry." Sirzechs said. "This is part of my job too. Regarding the upcoming conference between the leaders of the Three Factions, I intend to have it take place in this school. Part of the reason I came here is to inspect the grounds."

Needless to say, everyone was shocked by this unexpected announcement.

"…Here of all places?" Rias asked with a hesitant tone. "Really? Why?"

"This town seems to be a gathering place for great powers." Sirzechs said. "Not only is my little sister and Serafall's sister attending this school, the Evil Dragon User, the Calamity Witch, the wielder of the Holy Sword Durandal, the Holy Demonic Sword user and the wielder of one of Vritra's Gears are also connected to this place, and that's without considering the other students with supernatural backgrounds. The Goddess Izanami's servants and Kokabiel's faction also attacked this place, and even the renowned Heavenly Dragons were drawn to this town alongside the possessors of Canis Lykaon and Absolute Demise. No matter how you see it, the hand of fate is at work here. Perhaps Ryuugamine Takeshi-kun, the infamous Evil Dragon User, is the one drawing all these powers here."

Sirzechs's gaze turned to Takeshi, causing him to tense a bit. Despite his best attempts, he couldn't figure out whether the Devil King held animosity towards him or not. He chose to take the fact that he wasn't vaporized on the spot yet as a good sign. Sirzechs then turned his gaze to Xenovia, appraising her for a bit.

"I assume you must be the Durandal wielder that joined Rias recently, seeing as I can't recognize your face." Sirzechs said. "I'm Sirzechs Lucifer, one of the Four Great Devil Kings. It's good to meet you."

"It's good to meet you as well, Devil King-sama." Xenovia said, bowing at Sirzechs. "My name is Xenovia, President's second Rook."

"Honestly, I doubted my ears when I first heard the news." Sirzechs said. "I never expected Durandal's current wielder to join our side. My sister has a penchant for gathering interesting people."

"I never thought the day would come where I'd be a Devil either…" Xenovia said, a self-deprecating smile on her face. "Even though I killed so many Devils in the past, to just brazenly become one myself even if my worldview was shattered, maybe it was a bad choice? Did I let my desperation get the better of me? But at that time, anything was fine as long as I could get away from this suffocating feeling of betrayal. Still, was it really alright for me to choose this life…? Oh, Lord, please guide your lost lamb…ow…"

Xenovia was muttering so while holding her head in her hands. By now, Takeshi had become used to her bouts of self-doubt and overcomplicated thinking process, so this scene wasn't anything new to him or the others. In response, Sirzechs smiled, letting out a small chuckle.

"There's no need to be so troubled." Sirzechs said. "I understand that you are feeling lost and adrift after losing your pillar of support, Xenovia. However, I'm sure you will find your own path and identity in due time. My only request is that you support my sister as a member of her Peerage."

"That goes without saying." Xenovia said. "I don't know how much I can do, but I will definitely help this group in any way I can."

"That's good." Sirzechs nodded with a smile. "Well then, it's getting late, so Grayfia and I should take our leave. However, we haven't made any reservations to a nearby lodging facility. Perhaps, if you would be so kind as to accommodate us for the night, Rias…"

"Actually, I have a suggestion if you're alright with it."

Takeshi said after raising his hand, prompting Sirzechs to raise his eyebrow.

Later…

"My apologies for the intrusion and the trouble I'm causing you."

"Ara, what are you saying, Sirzechs-san? We're glad to have you here. Isn't that right, Hiroto?"

"Indeed, Sirzechs-san. I've heard quite a few things about you from Rias-san and some of my coworkers. I didn't think I'd have the opportunity to meet you in person."

In the living room of the Ryuugamine residence, Takeshi's parents and Sirzechs were greeting each other, with Grayfia standing a few steps behind the Devil King. Rias, Pandora and Takeshi were standing next to her, waiting until they were done with the pleasantries.

Back in the clubroom, Takeshi had suggested that Sirzechs and Grayfia spend the night in his house. The Devil King was skeptical at first, but agreed to his suggestion when Rias expressed her desire to spend the night with Takeshi as well. Although he was still somewhat wary of Sirzechs, Takeshi wanted to speak with him and ascertain his stance towards him. Rias had most likely realized that, hence why she was here as well.

"The maid-san over there is…?"

"My name is Grayfia, a maid in the employ of Sirzechs-sama." Grayfia said in response to Hiroto's question. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"It's a pleasure indeed." Sirzechs said. "Your son has been taking good care of my little sister, so I'd like to express my gratitude for that."

"He'd better be." Shiori glanced at Takeshi. "I'd hate to think we didn't teach him any better. Though I feel a bit embarrassed about the way he's handling his relationships…"

"Ah, if you're troubled about the issue with Rias and her friend competing for your son's affection, I wouldn't worry too much about it." Sirzechs said. "As long as each side understands one another, I'm sure they can settle things without making a mess out of things."

"I hope so." Hiroto said. "In any case, how about we change the subject and relax a bit, Sirzechs-san? We'd be glad to have you and Grayfia-san for dinner, and perhaps drink some sake later?"

"Oh, that sounds like a wonderful idea!" Sirzechs said with an enthusiastic expression. "It's been some time since I've had a casual dinner like this."

"Let me help you in the kitchen, Shiori-san."

"No, no, don't trouble yourself, Grayfia-san." Shiori said. "Please, sit down as well. You're my guest as well, so it'd be rude if I made you work regardless of your profession."

While the adults were busy talking, Pandora turned to Takeshi with an anxious look on her face.

"Will you be alright, Takeshi?" Pandora asked. "Don't you think it was a little risky bringing Sirzechs-sama here? If he disapproves of your relationship with President and decides to make you disappear…"

"Believe me, that worries me a lot as well." Takeshi said. "But this is a good opportunity and I don't want this uncertainty to drag on. If he disapproves of me, I'll just have to convince him that I'm a good match for Rias…when even I am not fully convinced of that…"

"Don't be such a pessimist." Rias said. "It'll be alright. You're not just a good match, you're the best match for me. My brother will love you just as much as I do, I'm sure of it."

"Yeah, let's not go that far…" Takeshi grimaced. "Come on, we should sit down as well."

Takeshi, Rias and Pandora took their seats, with Shiori serving dinner shortly afterwards. While eating, Sirzechs and Hiroto had a lively conversation, with Shiori and Grayfia joining in as well at times. Once they were done, Pandora volunteered to clean the dishes alongside Shiori, while Sirzechs expressed his desire to retire for the night. Takeshi stood up and led his to his room, with Rias following behind them.

"I wanted to sleep with you…but it looks like I'll have to be patient for tonight." Rias said as she hugged Takeshi, rubbing her cheek against him. "Fu, to think I would become depressed just by not having you next to me, I'm becoming a no-good woman, aren't I?"

"In that case, I'm a no-good man myself." Takeshi chuckled as he kissed Rias's cheek. "Good night, Rias."

"Good night."

"Good night, Sirzechs-sama, Takeshi-sama."

"Good night, Takeshi, Devil King-sama."

Once Rias had left, following after Grayfia and Pandora, Sirzechs turned to Takeshi.

"Well then, shall we head inside?"

"Yes."

Takeshi nodded as he entered the room, with Sirzechs following after him. Taking out the spare futon and pillow from his closet, Takeshi spread them on the floor and placed a couple of blankets on top of it. Once he was done, he turned to Sirzechs, who was observing Takeshi's room with a curious look.

"Lucifer-sama? Is something the matter?"

"No, I was just thinking that this is a very colorful and vibrant room." Sirzechs remarked. "I guess it's true that one's personal space reveals quite a lot about their personality."

Takeshi wasn't sure how to respond to this or what point Sirzechs was trying to make, so he chose to get straight to the point.

"Lucifer-sama, I had the chance to meet your parents during the victory party." Takeshi said. "They were reluctant, but they seem to have accepted me as a member of the household for now. What about you though, especially now that I'm in a relationship with Rias? Will you tolerate me, or should I expect a kill order some time down the line?"

"You don't mince your words, do you?" Sirzechs smiled. "After being stuck in the quagmire of politics for so long, it's a refreshing attitude for sure, Ryuugamine Takeshi-kun. Can I call you Takeshi-kun?"

"Sure thing."

Takeshi said. After remaining silent for a few seconds, Sirzechs spoke.

"Regarding your relationship with Rias, it's true that I was skeptical at first." Sirzechs said. "You are dangerous after all, far more dangerous than even you realize, an existence that could plunge this world into chaos if your power grows too much. However, it's also true that Rias has been smiling all this time and is experiencing so much joy recently because of you. That's something I'm deeply grateful for as that girl's brother."

"I'm doing my best on that front, Lucifer-sama." Takeshi said. "Rias believed in me when most people would at the very least doubt me, and I've grown to care for her very much. That's why one of my goals in this long life is to ensure she's happy as much as possible. I can't call myself a man if I can't make the girls I love smile after all."

"I'm very relieved to hear that." Sirzechs smiled. "That's why, just like Rias, I will believe in you and do my best to protect you from those that would do you harm in the Underworld, Takeshi-kun. Some nobles are starting to get jumpy when it comes to you after all."

"Because of my performance against Riser and Kokabiel, I suppose?"

"Indeed. It's unheard of for a recently Reincarnated Devil to be able to best a High-class Devil, especially one from the House of Phenex." Sirzechs said. "Being able to hold your own and take down a Fallen Angel Cadre with the Red Dragon Emperor's aid is also a remarkable feat. Because of that though, several noble Devils believe you're gaining too much power too quickly, power that could threaten them and their standing in the future."

"Because I'm affiliated with you, a member of the progressive faction?" Takeshi said. "Rias had mentioned something like that before. Our achievements only serve to increase the standing of your faction in the future, which they don't appreciate."

"I'm really sorry that you're getting caught up in our politics from such a young age." Sirzechs said, an apologetic expression on his face. "But it is a battlefield you'll have to step on at some point in the future, to some degree at least. The noble Devils have always been leery of talented Reincarnated Devils, doing their best to either push them aside to unimportant positions or assimilate them into their circle and instill their ethics into them."

"Sounds a bit like ancient Rome." Takeshi remarked. "There's something I don't understand though. You and the other Devil Kings possess unmatched power, right? If you banded together with the Pillars willing to accept reformations and the populace, couldn't you strong-arm the traditionalists into changing the laws of the Underworld?"

"Sometimes, I wish it would be that simple…" Sirzechs sighed. "But alas, it's not. The Great King Faction, with the Bael family at its forefront, holds sway over a significant amount of the populace, who were raised to believe that they only exist to serve the Pillars even with their lives if necessary. If a conflict broke out, they would follow them to death, resulting in the extinction of a significant amount of our population. Even in terms of combat power, we're not as unequal as it seems on the surface. The traditionalists hold several…pieces that could potentially create warriors capable of matching us. Another Civil War at this point would be disastrous."

"Because of all that, you can't take a more decisive stance and have to play the long game." Takeshi said. "I don't envy your position at all. How do you deal with all this stress, Lucifer-sama?"

"By looking on the bright side and focusing on our successes." Sirzechs said. "Like the fact that the leaders of the Three Factions are finally coming together after centuries to sit down and negotiate. We could only talk through unofficial channels so far, but this could be the start of something great, the impetus that will enable more changes to occur down the line. At least, I want to believe it is, and that Azazel and Michael share my sentiments."

"I hope all goes well, for everyone's sake." Takeshi said. "Azazel seems alright at least…sneaky methods to get a look at my Sacred Gear aside."

"Yes, he has a particular obsession with Sacred Gears." Sirzechs said. "His organization has been gathering Sacred Gear possessors for some time, and he's even brought several Longinus possessors to his side. With that kind of firepower, he could affect both the human and supernatural world, yet he's refrained from causing any disturbances."

"You don't think he might be planning to do something nasty during the summit, do you?" Takeshi asked. "Set his Longinus possessors loose on us and give us all a really bad day in general?"

"No, I trust that Azazel won't do something like that." Sirzechs said, and then frowned. "Outside interference is another matter though…"

"What do you mean by that, Lucifer-sama?"

"Nothing you need to concern yourself with for now, Takeshi-kun." Sirzechs said in haste. "Also, you don't have to call me Lucifer-sama or something stifling like that. You can use my name, or even better, call me brother. We're almost family after all."

"I think it's a little too soon for that." Takeshi said. "For now, please allow me to call you Sirzechs-sama."

"I guess that's alright for now…" Sirzechs said, letting out a disappointed sigh. "Though I really wanted the Evil Dragon User to call me brother. Well, I'll just look forward to it in the future… In any case, I'm going to sleep now. Good night, Takeshi-kun, and once again, thank you for being there for Rias."

"Don't mention it. Good night, Sirzechs-sama."

Takeshi said as he laid on his bed, falling asleep shortly afterwards.

Several days later…

"Well then, let's go."

Takeshi said as he, Rias, Pandora and Koneko left his house, heading for Kuoh Academy. While today was a holiday, the Occult Research Club had been given the privilege of using the school pool for the whole day, provided that they cleaned it first. While Takeshi wasn't that enthusiastic about that part, he was definitely looking forward to seeing the girls in their swimsuits.

While the three girls around him were busy chatting, Takeshi thought back to Sirzechs's visit a few days ago. He couldn't help but be relieved that his fears were unfounded and that the Devil King was mostly supportive of him. He also barely stifled a chuckle at the older man's attitude the following day. Under the pretense of inspection, they had toured Kuoh along with Rias, visiting game centers, fast food chains and a local shrine. He could tell that Sirzechs had a lot of fun going around and trying out various stuff like a hyperactive teenager.

Guess he was really looking forward for a chance to unwind a bit. Takeshi thought. I can hardly blame him for that.

"Morning."

The one who greeted the group was Xenovia, whose apartment was only a few blocks away from the Ryuugamine residence. Rias had purchased said apartment so she could be close to someone familiar in case she needed help with anything she didn't understand about living in Japan. Usually, she would come to Pandora for help, which Takeshi attributed to the fact that they were both foreigners, and thus felt a small sense of kinship.

"Good morning, Xenovia-san." Pandora greeted their fellow Devil. "You look a little tired. Homework has been giving you trouble again?"

"It's really hard getting used to all these complex characters." Xenovia said. "To think that Japanese learn all this from a young age… I think I'm catching a glimpse of a major economic power."

"What about the various sports clubs trying to scout you?" Pandora asked. "Must be a pain dealing with all these seniors coming to you all the time and begging you to join."

"I told them I could help them from time to time, but nothing more than that." Xenovia said. "Even if I was able to join them full time, I would refuse. It wouldn't be fair with me being a Devil and all that."

"…If they get too annoying, just ask Takeshi-senpai here for help." Koneko said. "He'll drive them away no problem."

"It's one of my specialties after all." Takeshi grinned. "Hm, maybe I could turn this into a business. If I charged by the hour, I could make some extra profit on the side."

"Leave it to you to try and make money out of this…" Pandora sighed. "Although…does that mean you'll be charging me as well in the future?"

"You don't need to worry about that, princess." Takeshi grinned. "I would never treat my favorite customer in such a way. Plus, I know you're still in the red with all the money you're borrowing from President."

"I can't help it." Pandora said with a slight pout. "There are so many series I'm invested in that I simply must know how their plot progresses. Perhaps I should start selling paintings…"

"You can draw?" Xenovia asked. "Do you think you can show me some time?"

"I have my sketchbook right here." Pandora said, taking her sketchbook out of her bag. "These are some rough drafts though, so it's not my best work."

"No, this is really good." Xenovia said, flipping through the pages. "Do you think you could draw something for me? Maybe the image of a Saint or something like that?"

"No, please spare me from any Church-related drawings." Pandora grimaced. "I'd rather not exorcise myself by accident…"

"That's right, I can't associate myself with anything connected to the Church anymore." Xenovia let out a bitter smile. "I was taught that I should fight for the sake of the Lord, Heaven and the Church. But all that is gone now. Sometimes, I wonder what am I supposed to live for…?"

"Xenovia, Devils are beings that live according to their greed and desires." Rias said. "Why don't you try living as you wish? Find a new desire, a new dream, and embrace it wholeheartedly."

"What I desire…"

"There should have been several restrictions placed on you by the Church." Rias said. "Maybe you should try to expand your horizons a bit, do things you were unable to before. That way, I'm sure you'll find something that will give you a sense of fulfilment, discover a previously unknown way of life fit for you."

Xenovia didn't respond, a thoughtful expression on her face for the rest of the trip. Once the group reached Kuoh Academy and headed for the pool, they found Akeno waiting for them there.

"Ara, ara, looks like I got here first." Akeno smiled. "I also bring a message from Yuuto, President. Something came up with one of his clients, so he will be joining us a bit later."

"That's a shame, but it can't be helped." Rias said. "Well then, let's get changed and get to work, everyone. The pool is waiting for us."

The members of the Occult Research Club nodded, with the girls following after Rias and entering the female students' changing room. Takeshi entered the male students' changing room, taking off his clothes and putting on his swim trunks, which were colored black with three crimson lines on the right side. Once he was done, he stepped outside, waiting for the girls to get ready. After a couple of minutes—

"Sorry for the wait, Takeshi. Hey, how does my swimsuit look?"

Rias smirked as she struck a seductive pose. She was wearing a red bikini with very high exposure, which was barely hiding her private parts. Next to her, Akeno, who was wearing a similarly risqué white swimsuit, giggled.

"Ara, ara, you sure are motivated today, President. But I'm not going to lose in terms of sex appeal, ufufu~. My swimsuit is better than hers, isn't it, Takeshi-kun?"

"…This isn't a competition, ladies." Takeshi said, forcing himself to focus and not start drooling. "You're both drop-dead gorgeous and stunning. Truth be told…I'm having a hard time restraining myself from pouncing on you."

"Looks like we've awakened the slumbering beast, ufufu~." Akeno let out a sly smile, turning her gaze to the side. "However, our presentation isn't over yet. Don't hide in the shadows, ladies. Present yourselves to the almighty Evil Dragon."

"We're coming, we're coming…"

Pandora said in a reluctant manner as she joined the others, followed by Koneko. The young Knight was wearing a bold black bikini, which wasn't as revealing as Rias and Akeno's swimsuits, but still magnified Pandora's already considerable sex appeal. As for Koneko, she was wearing a light blue one-piece swimsuit that was open on the sides, outlining her lean figure and bringing out her charm and cuteness.

"I must be the luckiest man on Earth right now." Takeshi said in an even tone. "Koneko-chan, as expected, you look amazing and so damn lovely that it's driving me crazy. Pandora, words alone cannot describe how attractive and irresistible you're looking right now. I guess Kiryuu can be helpful at times. It's to the point where I don't want to give you up to anyone else. Please become my girlfriend for real."

"E-Eh…?" Pandora stuttered, shocked by the sudden proposal, before composing herself. "No, this is a joke, right? Even if it wasn't…I'm sorry, but that can never happen…for your sake above all…."

"…Well, I was joking a bit, but not about the part where you are beautiful."

Takeshi smirked, although he felt a bit hurt by the rejection. Although it was intended as a joke, some part of him was serious. However, Pandora seemed adamant on keeping the distance between the two of them as it was. A part of him wanted to respect her wishes, but another desired more.

[She's not the only one being stubborn.] Orochi said. [If you followed my lead, you could become the biggest playboy the world has ever known! Doesn't that sound wonderful, partner?]

Takeshi ignored Orochi, a frown on his face as he looked around for their missing member.

"Where's Xenovia?" Takeshi said. "Still changing?"

"I'm here."

Xenovia said as she joined the others. However, unlike the other girls, she wasn't wearing her swimsuit, but her gym uniform instead.

"Ara, you haven't changed yet, Xenovia?" Rias asked. "Did you have trouble with your swimsuit? Perhaps you want me or Akeno to help you out?"

"No, it's fine." Xenovia said. "I can do it myself. But since I have never worn something like that in the presence of a man, I would like to gather my courage a bit first…"

"Whatever makes you feel more comfortable." Rias said. "Well then, let's get started, everyone."

"Eh, why aren't we using magic?" Takeshi asked. "We'd be done in seconds if we did so."

"True, but like I've said before, labor like this builds character." Rias said. "It's not good to be overdependent on our powers. Otherwise, we'll slack off and grow lazy."

"That's a good point."

Takeshi said as everyone began working, picking up the trash littering the pool and cleaning its surface. After about an hour, they were finished with their task, with Akeno creating a magic circle above the pool that unleashed a large quantity of water, filling it in a manner of seconds.

"Great job, everyone." Rias smiled. "Now then, feel free to enjoy the pool to your heart's content. Ah, but before that, I would like to ask a favor from you, Takeshi. Do you think you can help with Koneko's swimming practice? This is a good opportunity for her to start learning."

"Sure thing." Takeshi said. "I'd love to help her."

"…Please, and thank you." Koneko said with a small smile. "I'll be in your care, Senpai."

Both of them stepped into the pool, with Takeshi holding Koneko's hands as she started doing pedaling exercises. A warm feeling spread in his chest upon seeing his girlfriend giving it her all in this. A short distance away from them, Pandora was struggling to stay afloat as she swam using a bizarre form. According to her, she had learned how to swim in a small lake near the Titan worshippers' hidden village when she was younger, but she was sorely out of practice. That was why she was doing her best on her own.

"…Sorry…for wasting your time…with this, Senpai…"

Koneko heaved as she continued her paddling exercises. Takeshi smiled at that.

"Don't apologize, Koneko-chan." Takeshi smiled. "It's always my pleasure to spend more time with you. Though I'm surprised you didn't learn to swim for so long. Ah, is it because cats hate water, and so do you as a Nekomata?"

"…Maybe." Koneko said. "Could be…an ancestral instinct…"

After practicing for some time, Takeshi let go of Koneko's hands. Though it looked like she would sink at first, she managed to stay afloat and swim towards Takeshi, colliding with him as Takeshi wrapped his arms around her.

"…I'm here." Koneko smiled, planting a kiss on Takeshi's lips. "Thanks for the assistance, Senpai. You're a good teacher."

"Always happy to help, Koneko-chan." Takeshi grinned as the two of them kissed once again. "But if you want to practice together some more…"

"…I'd love that, but Senpai should enjoy himself as well." Koneko said. "Don't worry, I'll be alright on my own."

"If you say so." Takeshi said as the two of them separated. "Now then, let's see if I can break my record for holding my breath underwater…"

After playing around like that for some time, along with helping Pandora a bit with her practice, Takeshi got out of the pool and went to sit under an umbrella by the poolside. However, before he could do so, Rias's familiar flew to him, holding a bottle of what appeared to be sunscreen in its small talons. Looking to the side, Takeshi saw Rias beckoning at him with a seductive smile on her face. Takeshi grinned as he stood up and went to her side at once.

"I have arrived, my mistress." Takeshi said. "Now then, how may I serve you this fine day?"

"Oh my, there's only one thing I would ask you to do in this situation, no?" Rias smirked as she undid her bra, lying face down on her chaise. "Devils don't get sunburned easily, but we can't let our guard down. That's why, could you please apply this on my back, Takeshi?"

"Your wish is my command." Takeshi said as he poured some oil on his hands. "Well then, here I go."

Takeshi started spreading the oil all over Rias's back, caressing her with expert movements. From her back, to her buttocks, her hips and the sides of her breasts, he left no area untouched. Rias, meanwhile, was doing her hardest to stifle her moans, feeling an extremely pleasurable sensation each time Takeshi's fingers touched her body.

"You're…really good…at this…" Rias said through gritted teeth. "At this rate…it feels like…you're going to dominate my body completely…"

"I can't help but be pleased when you say something like that."

Takeshi grinned as he pressed his fingers on a specific spot on Rias's back. This time, she couldn't contain her cry of pleasure as Takeshi resumed his ministrations, panting and moaning all the while. Once Takeshi was done after a while, Rias collapsed on her chaise, heaving and trembling.

"Hey, Takeshi…" Rias said after a few seconds, her face flushed as she glanced at him. "Maybe…you want to do the front as well…?"

Rias stood up, revealing her uncovered breasts to Takeshi. Although he had seen her in this state many times so far, he couldn't help but be fascinated and aroused by his girlfriend's beauty. Her erotic responses to his ministrations weren't helping matters either. But just as he was about to speak—

"Ara, ara, you two are having fun on your own there? How cruel of you to leave me out."

Takeshi felt a soft and elastic sensation pressing on his back, with someone nibbling at his ear and a pair or soft arms wrapping around his waist. Turning his gaze to the side, he came face-to-face with Akeno, who was smiling at him. Taking the bottle of oil from Takeshi's hands, Akeno poured it on her breasts while grinning.

"Taking care of President is all good and well, but you shouldn't neglect yourself, Takeshi-kun." Akeno said in a sultry tone. "You need some oil applied to you as well. Here, let your kind Senpai help you with the places you can't reach, ufufu~."

Akeno started massaging Takeshi's back with her oiled breasts, with Takeshi feeling as if the nerves on his back were on fire each time Akeno's breasts touched him. His erection was also becoming more prominent, a fact that didn't escape Akeno's notice as her smile became wider and her hand slid down. However, Rias grabbed it, an irritated expression on her face.

"What do you think you're doing, Akeno?" Rias said with a severe expression on her face. "Takeshi wasn't done with me yet. Not to mention, you're being quite bold with someone who's not even your boyfriend."

"Yet." Akeno smirked. "You shouldn't be so stingy, President. Even I want to tease and be pampered by a handsome man like Takeshi-kun. That's why, be the bigger person here and lend him to me for a bit. I'll be sure to treat him with the utmost care, ufufu~."

"You have some nerve to make demands when you barged into our precious bonding time without permission." Rias said, wisps of demonic aura escaping from her body. "This isn't a game, Akeno. I'm being serious here."

"So am I." Akeno said, releasing Takeshi and glaring at Rias. "Takeshi-kun and I have promised ourselves to each other, so there's nothing wrong with a little skinship between us."

"First time I'm hearing that." Rias said. "You sure you didn't come up with this on our own, Akeno?"

"Ara, ara, are we perhaps feeling a little threatened, Rias?" Akeno giggled, sparks shooting out from her hands. "Afraid Takeshi-kun might start neglecting you once he sees what I have to offer him?"

"Don't joke with me!" Rias shouted as she stood up, the aura surrounding her becoming more prominent. "As if the innocent and inexperienced Virgin Priestess of Lightning would be able to match me! Takeshi and I know each other's bodies in the most intimate of ways!"

"If you say that much, then perhaps I should have Takeshi-kun take my virginity right here, right now." Akeno licked her fingers as lightning surrounded her body. "I'm curious to see if you'll be singing the same tune then."

"Such attitude towards your master is unacceptable, Akeno." Rias growled. "Perhaps I should discipline you a bit!"

"Oh my, such a lovely killing intent, ufufu~." Akeno giggled. "But I won't back down here, Rias!"

The situation had turned volatile, with Pandora and Koneko moving to the side in order to avoid getting caught up in the upcoming carnage. Just as it seemed the two girls were about to come to blows though—

"OK, that's far enough, you two."

Takeshi stepped between Rias and Akeno, forming two defensive magic circles in front of each girl.

"Takeshi?"

"Takeshi-kun?"

"Watching you argue was admittedly a bit amusing at first, but blasting each other is forbidden." Takeshi said. "Not only there's a chance you might get hurt, you'll also damage the pool we worked so hard to clean, and I won't stand for that."

After saying so, Takeshi turned to Rias.

"You shouldn't respond to such provocations and be ready to throw down so easily, Rias." Takeshi said. "No matter who else might end up joining this harem, I will always love and care for all of you equally. There's no need to feel insecure or anything."

Takeshi then turned to Akeno.

"Akeno, while I enjoy your playful and seductive personality a lot, there's a time and a place for such a play." Takeshi said. "Intruding in my personal time with Rias is not one of these times…though I suppose the fault is partially ours due to the public display. Still, there needs to be some respect for boundaries in order to avoid total chaos and each girl blocking the other. Do you understand me?"

"Aw, but where's the fun in that?" Akeno said with a slight pout. "Trying to steal you under the others' noses is much more fulfilling, ufufu~."

"Not when it leads to frustration and a potentially destructive fight." Takeshi said. "Now, apologize to each other, Rias, Akeno. Best friends like you shouldn't bicker over stuff like this."

Rias and Akeno looked at each other for a few seconds before sighing.

"…I'm sorry for my attitude, Rias." Akeno said. "I said and did too much just now."

"So did I." Rias let out a small smile. "I'm sorry for almost blowing my top, Akeno. I know how it is to let desire get the better of you and wanting to appeal to the person you like after all."

"That's better." Takeshi smiled. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to see what's taking Xenovia so long. You two had better not start fighting again while I'm gone, you hear me?"

"Don't worry, we won't."

Rias said as Takeshi left the pool, heading for the women's changing room. However, he heard a noise coming from the pool equipment room. Curious, he approached it, only to hear faint murmurs coming from it. Recognizing the familiar voice of Xenovia, Takeshi called out to her.

"Is that you, Xenovia? What are you doing in there?"

"Ryuugamine Takeshi?" Xenovia's voice came from inside. "Perfect timing. Come inside for a bit."

Takeshi frowned, but couldn't see any reason to refuse her. Opening the door, he stepped inside the small room, only to be greeted by the sight of Xenovia in her swimsuit. She was wearing a rather daring dark green piece with a high exposure rate that highlighted her athletic and supple body, with not even a bit of excessive fat on it. All in all, she gave off a different and refreshing kind of feminine charm, a sort of savage beauty, to the point where Takeshi couldn't help but feel a bit excited.

"This is my first swimsuit, so it took me some time to put it on." Xenovia said, her usual impassive expression on her face. "Does it suit me?"

"Yes, it looks amazing on you." Takeshi gave her a thumbs-up. "I can't believe this is the first time you've worn a swimsuit though. The Church's mandates are really strict, no?"

"Yes, they were against anything that might invite corruption." Xenovia said. "I didn't mind it much, but several female warriors expressed their dissatisfaction in the past. Even Irina grumbled to me once or twice about it."

"What about the whole thing about you not being comfortable showing yourself like that in front of a man?" Takeshi asked. "Are you alright with me seeing you like this?"

"There's no problem." Xenovia said. "Or rather, it would be a problem if I couldn't do this much considering what I'm about to ask you…"

"Ask me?" Takeshi frowned. "You have a request for me, Xenovia?"

"Yes." Xenovia nodded. "The talk I had earlier with President Rias about desires and greed got me thinking. That's why I wanted to talk with you, Ryuugamine Takeshi."

"Just call me Takeshi. We're comrades now, and it's kind of stifling being referred to by my full name all the time."

"Very well, Takeshi." Xenovia said. "Then, I will get right to the point. Let's have a child together."

Takeshi was stunned for a few seconds following that unexpected proposal.

"…Come again? I think I misheard you."

"Then I'll say it again." Xenovia said. "Let's have a child together, Takeshi."

"OK…I'm going to need some context here." Takeshi said while frowning. "Why a child of all things? How does that connect to what Rias said about desires and a new way of life?"

"Because, when I was an Exorcist, the thought of starting a family at some point never crossed my mind." Xenovia said. "I, the wielder of Durandal, was one of the Church's trump cards, sent in the most crucial and dangerous of missions. There was a big chance I could die at any point, and I couldn't leave a potential child of mine without a mother. But things are different now. As a Devil, I can be allowed to be more selfish. That's why I want to know the happiness of being a woman and the joys of raising a child."

"I'm with you so far…I think." Takeshi said. "Why are you coming on to me though? Why not Yuuto or some other guy?"

"I don't feel comfortable having sex with a stranger, and Kiba doesn't click with me as anything more than a comrade." Xenovia said. "But you, you are strong, not only in body, but in mind as well. I'd like a child of mine to inherit some of that willpower. The Dragon aura you're exuding is an added bonus…though I'm not sure if having an Evil Dragon's aura will be good or not."

After saying so, Xenovia unclasped the strap of her bikini, letting it fall down and exposing her breasts to Takeshi. He felt his heart skip a beat at the former Church warrior's current amoral appearance. The thought of having sex with a girl who had previously devoted herself to a life of celibacy was stoking the flames of his desire. He could feel his body heating up and an erection coming. Unaware of Takeshi's current state, Xenovia kept speaking as she stepped closer to him.

"I know about the birth rate of Devils, but since both of us are Reincarnated Devils, there shouldn't be a problem." Xenovia said. "If we try our best, I'm sure I can conceive in five years at the earliest. Ah, as for raising the child, there's no problem at all. I will handle that, but I request that you spend some time with them if they ask for it. Children need their father after all."

Several retorts came to Takeshi's mind, but he didn't utter them, busy with fighting off his rising lust and his desire to push Xenovia down right now. Some part of him could feel something was off with those sudden impulses, but wasn't in a position to analyze himself right now.

"I have zero experience with men, but I plan to learn from Takeshi, who has a lot of experience from what I've heard." Xenovia said as she clung to Takeshi. "Now, hold me. As long you impregnate me in the end…you're free to do what you wish with my body."

Takeshi could feel his self-control crumbling with Xenovia's daring words. However, he refused to back down here and lose to his primal desires, no matter how enticing Xenovia was or how much he wanted to ravish her right now. So, with a herculean effort, he placed his hands on her shoulders and pushed her back.

"What's the matter?" Xenovia seemed puzzled, tilting her head to the side. "Is my body not to your liking? I know I'm not as glamorous as President or Akeno-san, but I should be able to satisfy you."

"That's not it…far from it in fact." Takeshi said, taking deep breaths to calm himself and focus. "Xenovia…starting a family is a pretty big deal. It should be done with someone you truly love and wish to spend the rest of your life with, and your child should be the fruit of that love. It shouldn't be something you decided to do on a whim."

"I didn't—"

"Yes, you did." Takeshi cut her off. "Believe me, I understand that you feel lost right now. You're desperate to latch onto anything tangible. But you shouldn't let that push you into doing something hasty. Even for humans, you and I are young, even more so as Devils. We will live for thousands of years, assuming some bastard doesn't get a lucky shot at us. You have plenty of time to seriously consider your future and start a family down the line."

Xenovia didn't respond at that, looking like she was considering Takeshi's words. He pressed on, determined to make her understand to the best of his abilties.

"A child is a huge responsibility that you're not ready for at the moment, and neither am I. Plus, I would never get together with a girl I don't have feelings for. If you and I fall in love down the line, then I'll accept you with open arms and we can talk about starting a family. But until then, let's just remain comrades and friends, alright? Also…could you please put your bikini back on? I know I've said all that, but it's really hard holding myself back when you're tempting me like that."

"At least you're not turning me down because you find me unattractive." Xenovia let out a small smile as she picked up her bikini and put it on. "You have given me a lot to think of, Takeshi. I suppose…I should put some more thought into my future."

"That would be for the best." Takeshi nodded. "Now, you should probably join the others and enjoy the pool as well. It's not an opportunity that comes often after all."

"What about you?"

"I'll join you again a bit later." Takeshi said. "For now, I'd like to walk around campus a bit and…straighten some things out."

After saying so, Takeshi exited the room and headed for the male students' changing room, putting his clothes back on. Once he was done, he started walking aimlessly around Kuoh, turning his thoughts to his Sacred Gear, and more specifically, one of the entities inhabiting it.

Alright, spit it out. Takeshi thought. That sudden surge of overwhelming lust back there was unnatural for me. What sort of trick are you trying to pull here, Orochi?

There was silence at first, and then a disappointed sigh echoed in Takeshi's mind.

[Even this was ineffective, huh…?] Orochi said. [You're an unbelievably stubborn and thickheaded Devil, aren't you, partner? Who in their right mind turns down a beautiful woman throwing herself at him, huh?]

A guy who's looking for a bit more than shallow relationships. Takeshi retorted. Is that what you did to past wielders who had the misfortune to encounter you? Stoked their lust and manipulated them with honeyed words in order to turn them into sex-crazed fiends?

[You make it sound worse than it was.] Orochi said. [The others give suffering and madness to their wielders. I gave them pleasure beyond their wildest dreams. If anything, that was mercy compared to what my other brethren trapped in here did to them.]

But you still drove to rampage in the end, didn't you? Takeshi pointed out. So much for your mercy. You gave them a taste of Heaven before plunging them straight into Hell.

[Come on, what did you expect?] Orochi laughed. [I'm an Evil Dragon in the end. And for an Evil Dragon, there's no greater pleasure than a fight to the death! It's just that my hobby was a close second, and I wanted to share that pleasure as well with my partners.]

That was an unwanted favor in the end. Takeshi said. I'm sure my predecessors would say the same if they were here.

[Eh, don't be too sure about it.] Orochi said. [Many of them would jump at the chance to create a grand harem in this school. Not everyone's as much of a prude as you, partner. They'd have been playing day and night with these girls while having wild orgies! I shudder in delight just by thinking about it!]

That's the difference between you and me then. Takeshi said. Pleasure is just a side benefit in the end. What I want is partners I can walk side by side with, not sex dolls I can use and abuse. That's also part of my rule.

[As I said, too damn stubborn!] Orochi wailed, and then spoke with a serious tone. [I assume we will never see eye-to-eye in this matter then?]

Never. Takeshi declared. That's why, feel free to do your worst. I will surmount it all and claim your power for myself in the end.

[I see.] Orochi said with an ominous tone. [If that's how it's going to be—then I surrender. It's my loss.]

Takeshi stumbled from the shock, almost falling face first on the ground.

Surrender…you say? Takeshi thought. What kind of game are you playing now, Orochi? Trying to get me to lower my guard before you strike again?

[No games this time, partner.] Orochi said. [Even though I can keep playing with you, I don't see any reason to waste both our times here. Plus, I wasn't really lying when I said I like you. Not to mention, if there's going to be someone to break the barrier of 'losing their sanity for sure when the third Evil Dragon awakens', I'd rather that person be my fellow countryman, you know? You deserve that much at least before one of the others drags you down into the abyss.]

I'll believe all that when I see your Balance Breaker for myself.

[It's already unlocked, and I'm bound by the Sacred Gear's systems.] Orochi said, projecting an image of his eight necks bound with several thick chains to Takeshi. [Feel free to take some pride in reaching a stage no previous wielder has reached, partner.]

Don't expect any thanks from me, Orochi.

[Oh, is this what they call a tsundere?] Orochi said. [How adorable, partner! Yes, yes, I can feel the love beneath your harsh words and cold exterior!]

There's no love to be found here, you eight-headed blockhead!

Takeshi screamed in his thoughts as Orochi started laughing. At that moment, he tensed as he felt a familiar presence, with Orochi letting out a menacing growl as well. Returning his full focus to his surroundings, Takeshi noticed that he had arrived at the school's main gate. Leaning against it was a familiar silver-haired young man. He let out a small smirk upon seeing Takeshi, who narrowed his eyes in response.

"Looks like we meet again, Takeshi." Vali said as he approached Takeshi while looking around. "This seems like a good school."

"It's pretty good all things considered." Takeshi said. "Why, are you thinking about enrolling here, Vali?"

"No way." Vali said, making a dismissive gesture. "I'm simply a passing-through White Dragon Emperor. Remember that."

"Yes, you sure are." Takeshi smirked. "Mister 'I arrived during the decisive battle, yet stood around and did nothing'. I wonder if the power of the renowned Vanishing Dragon is just for show after all."

"Hoh, what's this?" Vali grinned. "Does the Evil Dragon User doubt my power? Do you wish to test me?"

"Do you want to be tested, Vali?"

A tense silence ensued between the two of them as they stared at each other. After glancing to the side, Vali spoke.

"Let's change locations." Vali said. "We're long overdue for a showdown after all."

"Took the words right out of my mouth."

Takeshi said as he followed after Vali.

"Where could Takeshi have gone? He's been missing for almost an hour now."

Rias wondered, an anxious expression on her face. After Xenovia had joined them, with Yuuto following up shortly afterwards, everyone was waiting for Takeshi to come back in order to play water volleyball. However, despite waiting for some time, Takeshi hadn't showed up. The Occult Research Club had changed back into their casual clothes and had left the pool in search of him.

"He's not responding in his cellphone, and the magic circle isn't connecting either." Pandora said, looking worried as well. "Could it be that something has happened to him?"

"…Senpai does have a knack for getting into trouble." Koneko said. "But the school is supposed to be a safe zone. How could he have possibly managed to land himself into a sticky situation?"

"Is he perhaps avoiding me…?" Xenovia muttered. "Could he be feeling uncomfortable around me now? I shouldn't have come on to him so strongly. Oh, Lord, please help your servant, ouch…"

"You don't suppose he's collapsed somewhere due to the corrupted aura building up in his body again?" Akeno said while frowning. "I did cleanse him three days ago, but there's a chance I wasn't thorough enough or that he pushed himself too much during training…again."

"Let's just calm down and not jump to conclusions." Yuuto said. "Perhaps he—"

The sound of raised voices came from the direction of the sports grounds at that moment, cutting off Yuuto. Looking at each other, the members of the Occult Research Club rushed at there, only to come across an unexpected scene. A small group of students belonging to various clubs had gathered around the basketball court and cheered on the two boys playing against each other there.

"That's Takeshi…and Vali?" Rias said with a troubled expression. "What's the White Dragon Emperor doing here?"

"I don't know, but he's got some pretty good moves." Yuuto remarked as Vali stole the ball from Takeshi before scoring a three-pointer with ease. "I guess that's why Takeshi-kun wasn't responding at all."

"Yes, but they're getting a little carried away." Pandora pointed out as Takeshi scored a three-pointer of his own from behind the half-court line. "If they pull too many unreal stunts like this, the students watching will grow suspicious."

"…Let's stop them." Koneko said. "We need to question the Vanishing Dragon."

"Right."

Rias nodded as the Occult Research Club prepared to move in. However, someone else beat them to it. Another familiar young man jumped in the court and knocked the ball out of Vali's hands just as he was trying to shoot a full-court shot of his own, turning to the two of them as Takeshi opened his eyes wide in surprise.

"You are…"

"Are you two trying to expose your identities to the humans around us?" Leon Ainsworth said, an exasperated look on his face. "Don't you know the meaning of holding back? No, scratch that, you guys always had issues with that, and that hasn't changed one bit…."

"You're here too, Leon?" Vali said while grinning. "Perfect. Looks like the three of us can't help but be drawn to each other lately."

"No kidding." Takeshi said. "More importantly however, since Leon stopped the game and I was leading at the time, it's my victory, Vali."

"No, it was not." Vali said. "The game was interrupted, so there's no conclusion. Besides, despite your claims, you botched that three-pointer in the fifteen-minute mark, so if the game counts, the winner is me."

"I told you I hadn't crossed the three-point line." Takeshi insisted. "Even after all these years, you still haven't fixed your eyesight issues, Vali?"

"Right back at you." Vali glared at Takeshi. "Always making excuses when a game doesn't go your way. But I will not stand for a cheater."

"Who the Hell's a cheater!?" Takeshi exploded. "How about we settle this in another manner, you—!"

"Hey, guys, remember our little talk just now about not getting carried away?" Leon stepped between the two boys, putting his arms around their shoulders and dragging them closer. "Blowing up the field in some sort of epic confrontation is also included in that. The game is a draw, or if you don't like that, it's on pause and will continue at a later date. Sounds good to you two?"

"I suppose I can accept that." Vali shrugged. "But you had best not misremember the score should we pick this up at some point in the future, Takeshi."

"Again, took the words right out of my mouth." Takeshi said. "Mark my words, we will settle this at a later date."

"You two are exhausting to deal with as always…"

Leon said, letting out a tired sigh. At that time, the members of the Gremory Peerage approached them, having used hypnotic suggestions to get the other students to clear the field.

"…It looked like you were having a hard time." Koneko addressed Leon. "Were Takeshi-senpai and the Vanishing Dragon bickering like this all the time in the past?"

"Like you wouldn't believe…" Leon let out another sigh. "After a point, I lost count of the times I had to break a fight between these two. Other than competitions though, we all got along fine. Though taking our current status into account, it remains to be seen if that will continue…"

Leon said, eyeing Vali with a wary look. Vali grinned in response.

"Don't look so worried, Leon." Vali said. "I'm not here to pick a fight today."

"In that case, why are you here, Vanishing Dragon?" Rias asked. "Or rather, why are you both here?"

"I assume it's for the same reason." Vali said. "Azazel sent me to scout the meeting grounds."

"The Church asked the same from me." Leon said. "Me and two other comrades of mine that came here with me will be part of the delegation from Heaven."

"Others?" Xenovia said, a hopeful expression on her face. "Does that perhaps…include Irina?"

"Unfortunately, no." Leon said. "However, warrior Irina is doing a bit better. She's still shocked, but she's trying her hardest to move past Deus Trinity's death. That girl is stronger than it seems, so I think she'll be fine."

"Thanks goodness." Xenovia smiled with a relieved expression. "I'm so glad to hear that…"

Meanwhile, Vali was staring at the members of the Occult Research Club, an unfathomable expression on his face.

"What's the matter, Vanishing Dragon?" Rias asked. "Why are you looking at us so intently?"

"I'm surprised, that's all." Vali said. "You know who Takeshi is, what fate has in store for him if he fails to control his power, and yet you all still chose to stay with him? The Two Heavenly Dragons are one thing, but those related to the Evil Dragon User always met an unfortunate end. What will become of you, I wonder?"

"Nothing will happen to them." Takeshi said. "If need be, I will fight fate, win and protect everyone with these hands."

"That's just like you." Vali grinned. "However, it's not so easy for a destroyer to become a protector. All it takes is one tiny mistake, one fleeting moment of weakness, and everything is gone. Well, it's not my business anyway. We each have our own future that we're aiming for."

"And what future are you aiming for, Vali?" Leon said. "What does the White Dragon Emperor seek?"

"The only thing that matters in this world." Vali said. "Absolute, unrivalled power. I'm far from it now, but one day, I will become the strongest existence in this world. It's a shame that Deus Trinity died long before I could challenge him, but that's alright. There are still plenty of individuals just as strong or stronger than him, so I will have plenty of worthy foes to fight."

"Power, eh?" Leon said. "It sounds like an answer fit for you. But what will you do once you reach the top?"

"Who knows." Vali shrugged. "Perhaps kill myself? Living in a boring world is worse than death after all."

"You're an incorrigible battle maniac through and through." Takeshi said. "However, that will never happen. There's only one person fit to be the strongest, and that's me!"

"That's the perfect attitude to have." Vali smiled. "Then, I will use you and Leon as stepping stones to reach my goal. Well, since Azazel is expecting me, I should take my leave now. We will meet again at the conference. Until then, farewell."

With that, Vali turned around and left the sports field.

"I must be off as well to submit my report." Leon said, but then his eyes opened wide. "Oh, I almost forgot. An important individual from Heaven wants to meet with you before the conference, Takeshi."

"An important individual?" Takeshi frowned. "Who is it?"

"It's a surprise." Leon winked at him. "I'll send you a message about the time and place later. Everyone, if you'll excuse me…"

Leon also left in the opposite direction from Vali, leaving the Devils of Kuoh standing alone on the empty field.

"Let's go back home as well." Rias said. "I think we've had enough excitement for one day."

Everyone nodded as they started heading towards the school gate.

"Future, eh…?"

Takeshi muttered with a frown, turning his sights to the sky above.

This concludes Chapter 27, which begins the next arc of this story. To be honest, it was quite a pain to finish, what with my treatments and everything sapping my concentration and strength, so I'm thinking of taking the rest of the summer off until I'm done with chemo. We'll see how it goes.

Well, that's all for now. As always, please read, review, favorite, follow, but most of all enjoy!

See you all next time!
