Chapter 14: Death Egg and Revelations
"Chaos Spear!" yelled the red-black hedgehog aiming the Chaos-based projectile at Eggman who was frozen in fear.
Before the hedgehog could fire the projectile, Miles pushed the hedgehog's hands away from Eggman and sent his fist into the hedgehog's stomach while T.D swiped the hedgehog's feet out from under him and then Miles clamped a foot down on the hedgehog's throat.
"{Choked}You're defending him?! After everything he's done to you?! What is wrong with you T-?!" snarled the hedgehog before Miles clamped a hand over the hedgehog's mouth and then picked him up.
"Excuse us a moment." said Miles walking away. Miles' hand slipped from the hedgehog's mouth and Tails Doll covered Tails' ears to block the cursing spree the red-black hedgehog had, the others had horrified expressions on their faces from the vulgar language the hedgehog used and Eggman passed out from stress and fear.
After Miles is a fair distance away from the others, he throws the hedgehog to the ground.
"What is your problem Shadow?! I know you have anger issues but I've never seen you this mad before!" said Miles.
"I'm like this because of what Eggman did to you and Sonic!" snarled Shadow.
"So you do have a heart." teased Miles.
"Shut up! I may have considered Sonic a fake and a rival...{mutters}maybe a friend...but what Eggman did is unforgivable! Seriously, he made you believe you were a normal person and then he makes you kill Sonic after you two have a friendship for eight years! I'm gonna kill Eggman!" snarled Shadow.
"He's reformed. He's helping us this time Shadow."
"So?! The guy could double-cross you guys and then he'll be the one to get the last laugh!"
"He's been helping us for TWO YEARS, I think that counts as being reformed."
"Tails, you are a pain in the a$$!"
"Don't say my name so loudly! I can't let my younger self find out that he's actually a robot...not yet anyway."
"So what do I call you?"
"Miles. Sure, I hate the name but its a good cover. The other Freedom Fighters know who I am but my younger self can't find out...yet."
"Fine...then what's my name genius?"
"Shade."
"Hmmmm...I like it. But I'm keeping an eye on Eggman." growled Shade poking Miles in the chest.
"More like a Chaos Spear pointed at his back." corrected Miles with a smirk.
"Shut up Miles!" growled Shade.
The two then walk back to the group and Eggman, now conscious again, turns pale upon seeing Shade.
"We've...worked out the problem. Shade here, won't bother Eggman as long as nothing suspicious happens that could imply Eggman." said Miles.
"Why's he called Shade?" said Sonic.
"Shut up Faker!" growled Shade before Miles whacked him upside the head, "Ow! What was that for?!"
"You need to break that habit." said Miles sternly.
"Hn." was Shade's response turning away before he was swarmed by girls who saw Shade and began dragging him away.
"Help! WHAT'S WITH GIRLS GOING AFTER ME ANYWAY?! HELP!" screamed Shade as he was dragged into a hut, the door slamming once he was inside, his screams could be heard for miles.
The group turn towards the sound of soaked shoes hitting the ground and see a drenched brown-furred fox with three cybernetic tails. He looks up, his hair in his face.
"Don't, say, a, word." growled the fox before he stomped off and Klaww walked towards the group.
"Well, I believe I got some emotion back into Triple although I did wash his fur dye off..." said Klaww shrugging.
"Since when is Triple's fur brown?" said Fang.
"Always has been, he just dyes it." said Klaww shrugging again.
"Never noticed."
"Of course you wouldn't, you're too dense to notice anything even when somebody kicks you in the kiwis."
All the males in the Freedom Fighters cringe, including Antoine.
"So how do we get to the Death Egg? We're kind of low on planes." said Sonic.
"Backlash help! Backlash help! Backlash able to get here by traveling through space!" said Backlash in his high-speed language.
"How...did you travel through space?" said Rotor.
"Like this! Like this!" said Backlash before he blasted off the ground as a silvery comet and into the sky before he came crashing down again but landed gently.
"Do you think we can survive riding you up to the station?" said Sonic.
"Maybe. Never tried passengers before! Never tried before!" said Backlash before he grabbed Sonic, Miles, Tails, and T.D and blasted off into the sky as a silvery comet, Sonic's screams could be heard even as the comet got smaller and smaller to those on the ground.
"See ya!" said Rift disappearing in a purple-red vortex.
"Bye!" said Ashe smiling before she disappeared.
"We're next." said Fang before he grabbed Triple who's fur was now midnight blue again and then disappeared in a vortex originating form his left eye.
"Are you leaving?" said Sally looking at Klaww who shrugs before he disappears in red-black mist.
"Wait for Klaxon! Klaxon never ready for missions!" said Klaxon running out of a hut as he put his mask on but tripped over his cloak and rolled into a tree.
"Owie."
"Is that guy mental?" asked Shade as he walked out of the hut he was dragged into, kiss marks covering his face.
Everyone Present: "Yes, he's mental."
"Klaxon not like you jerks anymore! Goodbye!" said Klaxon getting up before he disappeared in flash of light.
Death Egg Hangar; 20 Minutes Later...
Two vortexes opened up before three figures walked out of them; Fang, Rift, and Triple. Klaww then appeared from red-black mist followed by Klaxon from a flash of light. Ashe then teleported in in front of Klaxon who jumped into Klaww's arms and the Tiger/Dragon rolled his eye before he dropped Klaxon.
"Ow..."
"Where's Backlash?" said Ashe looking around the room.
*CRASH!*
"Backlash is here! Backlash is here!" said Backlash bouncing over to them as Sonic, Miles, Tails, and T.D stumbled over.
"Where's Spike?" said Fang looking around.
"Oops! Forgot him!" said Ashe before she teleported away and then back with the green scaled dragon.
"Took you guys long enough to remember I can't teleport in ways you guys can!" snapped Spike.
"Anybody else notice how quiet this place is?" said Sonic looking around.
"It's way too quiet even for one of Robotnik's ships." said Miles, sensors on alert.
"I don't like it." said Tails Dolls hanging off of Tails' back, his gem white.
"We move slowly and cautiously." said Fang.
"Looks like my dense brother finally grew a brain." said Klaww.
"Shut up Klaww!"
"Slowly? As in walking?" said Sonic.
"Yeah, got a problem with it blue-boy?" said Fang looking at Sonic.
"No. I just don't see the point." said Sonic crossing his arms.
"Just shut up and start walking."
Twenty Minutes Later; Narrow Corridor...
"Okay, that's it! It's too quiet and it's sending me on edge!" said Sonic.
"And in three...two...one..." said Klaww counting down with his fingers.
A large monitor slowly lowered itself down form the ceiling and it activated to show Robotnik's face.
"Greetings Sonic, I see you fell for the fake Death Egg trap. Too bad you won't be able to escape." said Robotnik.
"What's the scheme this time Robuttnik?" said Sonic bored.
"Simple. Get rid of you, that horrifying doll, and those other weirdoes you have with you." said Robotnik with a sneer.
Klaww, Fang, Klaxon, Rift, Triple, Spike, Ashe, and Backlash: "Hey! Who you calling weirdoes?!"
"Good luck escaping this time Sonic because I made these robots to be able to track your movements AND hit you with their weaponry every time. I also added some other weapons in case your friends decide to intervene."
Suddenly SWAT-bots begin pouring into the hallway until the group is surrounded.
"Hmhmhm... heh heh heh heh..." everyone turns to see Triple sniggering to himself, without showing his face even as wisps of red begin snaking up his tails.
'Is he... laughing?' thought Spike.
"Heh heh heh heh heh... hahahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Triple throws his head back and howls with laughter. He is still laughing even as he moves forward. "Death to us, huh? Heh heh. I think it's time to dish out... triple of that! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"
Oil and robotic parts fly through the air as Triple violently rips apart the robots and Tails Doll covers Tails' eyes as his gem turns white and his eyes widen. Everyone present is visibly shaken after the robots are nothing more than spare parts and oil and Triple looks around, laughing but he looks normal again.
"You'll never reach me in the control room!" yelled Robotnik before he cut the transmission and Triple threw a pipe at the monitor.
"Aw shut up! Ha hah ha hah ha!" said Triple.
"I've never seen Triple that bad before." muttered Klaww, wide-eyed.
"L-let's keep moving." said Sonic keeping a fair distance away from Triple.
"I-I'll scout ahead." said Sonic before he zoomed off, fear of Triple overtaking him.
The group then turned around to see Klaxon white as a ghost, mask included, and in a fetal position as he shivered uncontrollably.
"Is he going to be alright?" said Spike.
"I think so." said Klaww and the group left Klaxon in the hallway amongst a pile of robotic parts.
Control Room; One Hour Later...
After wondering through a literal labyrinth of corridors and dead-ends, the group finally arrives at control room only to see Sonic unconscious on the ground when a monitor activates and Robotnik's face is seen.
"Sonic managed to get to me before I was ready but he didn't catch me off-guard, I caught him off-guard. Hah ha hah. The little rodent didn't stand a chance. Oh by the way, on my way out I activated the self-destruct sequence of the Death Egg. Oh, and I only gave this station a single escape pod and I took it. Good luck getting out of this mess! I do hope you'll stay for the fireworks...oh wait...YOU'LL BE THE FIREWORKS! AH-HAHAHAHAHAHA! Robotnik out!" said Robotnik before the screen went black and the room was racked by an explosion.
The blast door leading into the control room began closing but was stopped upon a massive red hand grabs it and lifts it up and the owner then positions himself underneath the door.
"Get out of here!" yelled Vortex as he held the door up.
"We're not leaving you Rift." said Klaww throwing Sonic over his shoulder.
"Just go! I'll find my own way off this station!" growled Vortex as he struggled to keep the door open despite his strength. The group reluctantly leaves him behind as explosions rack the hallways.
"How do we get out of here?!" said Spike.
"I think I saw a transport in the hangar when we came in." said Fang.
After blasting their way through walls, they arrive at the entrance to the hangar, only...
"It's blocked!" said Spike as he looked over the blast door blocking their way.
"How do we get through?" said Klaxon looking at the door.
"Use your head." said Klaww.
Five Minutes Later...
Everyone, including Sonic who had recovered but excluding Miles and Tails, was holding onto Klaxon as they charged the door.
"But I don't want to use my head!" screamed Klaxon as they neared the door at an alarming rate.(1)
*CRASH!*
The group skidded to a halt after the door was busted down and they set a dazed Klaxon on the ground.
"Good thing my skull is made form solid Titanium..." said Klaxon in a daze as he swayed where he stood.
"Why didn't we join in? That looked fun." said Tails as he walked next to Miles as the two slowly entered the hangar.
"Do you think you could have kept pace with them?" said Miles and Tails looked thoughtful before he sighed.
"No..." said Tails in defeat and pouted a bit.
An explosion racked the ceiling causing girders and heavy pipes to fall towards the two foxes but acting quickly Miles grabbed Tails and threw him into the hangar room but was buried by the debris.
"Miles!" yelled Tails running towards the debris pile and he began to try to clear the debris before a metallic hand burst form the debris pile followed by another. Soon Miles climbed out of the pile but came only halfway out before he cried out in pain.
"Miles! Are you okay?!" said Tails looking at his friend in worry.
"{Distortion}No...my legs...are crushed...help me out of here. No matter how bad I scream, keep pulling got it?" said Miles and Tails hesitantly nods, "On three. One...two...three..."
Tails starts pulling and Miles screams in pain and Tails keeps pulling despite the tears welling in his eyes before Miles comes free and the two tumble to the ground, Miles missing his entire lower half, his spine sticking out. An explosion shakes the station causing debris to fall down between Miles and Tails and the transport.
"{Distortion} Tails...leave me...I'm done for." said Miles.
"I can't leave you...I won't." said Tails.
"Tails...there's something you should know...remember how I'm from the future?"
Tails nods.
"Who...do you think I am?"
Tails thinks about it before his eyes widen in horror and he looks at Miles in shock.
"Y-you're me?" said Tails in utter horror and shock.
"Yes...I came back to change the future. I did. Don't let the fact that you're a machine get to you, you're still a living being...despite what's on the inside. I'm...sorry I didn't tell you before...but...you were too young."
"I'm too young for everything." said Tails half-heartedly pouting.
"Go...don't let the truth get to you. Besides, Eggman told Sonic and does Sonic treat you any differently?"
"No..."
"See? You're still his little buddy. Now go...I'll be fine." said Miles smiling before Tails pulls him into a hug.
"Liar." whispered Tails into Miles' ear before he got up and began running towards the transport but an explosion created a wall of fire in front of him. Suddenly a massive clawed hand grabs Tails and pulls him close to a large shaggy body and he looks up to see Tails Doll in his transformed state before the monstrous doll sets him down in the transport, shrinks, then gets in himself.
"Hit the gas!" yelled Tails Doll upon the door to the transport closing and the ship flew out of the hangar as explosion after explosion began to rip the station apart.
Miles looked up at the ceiling as explosions occurred all around him and a small smile graced his face before his organic eye closed and his cracked cybernetic eye began flashing before it faded to black.
Control Room Door...
"Ah crap! Dead again..." muttered Vortex before he was consumed by the station exploding violently.
Outer Space...
The small transport was violently shook by the shockwave from the station exploding but after a few seconds, it was evened out and it headed straight for Knothole, the flight a smooth but unhappy one.
