Chapter 33

Formerly hidden Freedom Fighter mountain base...

Laser fire light up the air as both SWATbots and Knothole Freedom Fighters engaged in a trench warfare within the mountain base, the Freedom Fighters having a slight advantage due to neither the cybernetic Jackal nor Mecha-Sally being at the current engagement but the outer defenses of the base had fallen to SWATBots utilizing napalm-based flamethrowers but those had been destroyed before they could get close to the second defense barrier due to the alarm being sounded and the reverse engineered defense turret taken from a destroyed Robotnik base being activated, the gunner cutting down the advancing robots quickly due to their armor being designed for hedgehog quills, Cybernetically enhanced melee combat and conventional firearms not Robotnik tech.

The gunner keeps firing at the advancing SWATBots until a "clang" is heard at his feet and he looks down before he's consumed by a explosion from a fragmentation grenade. The fifth wave now utilizing grenades and shoulder mounted rocket launchers. Within seconds, the second barrier's defenders are retreating to the third defensive barrier, however, only three make to said barrier as they get cut down by laser fire from the advancing SWATBots during the retreat. The RPG armed SWATBots advance towards the barrier before they set off makeshift mines placed ahead of the third barrier, taking out most of them while heavily damaging the rest before they get shot in the head, taking them out.

The third barrier's defenders get ready to deal with the next wave when suddenly, the mountain over their heads disappears after turning a red-purple-pink coloration for a few seconds. Hovering above where the mountains peak was, is the cybernetic Jackal before he disappears from sight and the defenders hear a steadily growing whistle and run for the main base as artillery begins to shell the third, fourth and fifth barriers for five minutes after which the mountain reappears and the next wave of SWATbots advances towards the base unhindered.

As the SWATBots enter the main base, they find it deserted until several explosives go off and cause a cave-in right on top of them. The retreating Freedom Fighters are seen escaping via a back entrance as the cavern system collapses behind them, the last one barely making it out before the caves fully collapse. Among them are Sonic, Rotor, Bunnie, Antoine and Sir Charles. Sonic still recovering from his impalement during his first fight. The Kangaroo/Dragon Hybrid kicks a nearby boulder out of the ground and then punts it over the mountain where it crashes down on one of the artillery vehicles used to bombard the cavern defense barriers when the mountain was removed. The Freedom Fighters all split up and get into cover as another wave of SWATbots arrives after going around the mountain.

However, the cybernetic Jackal appears and activates the pyramid like gem on his chest, causing their cover to disappear, exposing them to enemy fire but the shots hit energy shields as Egg-like robots begin to hit the ground in the area and open fire on the SWATbots as orange drones with Eggman's symbols on them decloak revealing them to be shield drones. Dropships begin to land as more and more Egg-Pawns drop down from the sky.

"Are you going to just stand there and wait for the shields to die or are you going to do a tactical withdraw?!" yelled Eggman as he flew onto the scene in a heavily armored Egg-mobile.

"What took you so long to get your ass back here?!" snapped Sonic as he was helped towards a dropship.

"Scratch and Ground fighting over who gets to pilot the Egg Fortress Carrier Mk. III! What else?"

"Wait, you brought them back?"

"I brought a lot back! Do you know how many failed robots and/or minion designs I have from fighting you in the original timeline? TOO MANY! So now, I'm using them to fight myself. As crazy as that sounds. Now, all of you, get out of here!" yelled Eggman pointing to the ships as the Egg Pawns continued to fight the SWATbots, both robot series taking each other in equal number.

A purple-red-pink blast wave hits the ground behind Sonic, Bunnie and Rotor, separating the trio as the cybernetic Jackal flickers in and out of reality to get Sonic out of the picture. Sonic gets up only to get grabbed by the throat by the Jackal who readies his repaired titanium-alloy claws to impale Sonic before black tendrils wrap around his arm as red cracks form in the world around them which causes the trees to reappear and he gets pulled away from Sonic through several trees before he teleports out of the grip of the tendrils and looks around, his eye scanning the area.

He suddenly spins around and blood hits some nearby grass only, it's not a reddish color, it's purple in coloration and smells like sulfur. The coated grass begins to melt from the blood coating it and he works on getting the blood off his claws as begins to melt them.

"Oh, so, you learned not to cut me right off the bad then." said a tall lanky figure with orange-red fur and purple eyes with red swirls within as the stomach wound quickly healed. He extended his claws on one hand, one of the claws being considerably longer than the rest as it glowed an eerie red before swinging the claws at the Jackal who avoided the swing before blocking a kick only for one of the figure's tails to wrap around his leg and throw him into a rock wall. The figure then encased his fist in stone and went to punch the Jackal but the Jackal teleported out of the way, the rock wall receiving a 3 foot deep impact crater from the punch.

"You have no information on me...or, very little anyway. You can't fight me." said the figure as the rocks crumbled off his fist as he looked around slowly as red cracks formed in the world around him before fading. He quickly spun after hearing the odd noise the gem the Jackal has only to get hit by a red-purple-pink orb, knocking him back and onto the ground. His swirled eyes showing confusion.

"I'm...weak to that? No...that's not it...I'm not as prepared for it as I thought I'd be." he muttered to himself as he got back to his feet before catching one of the Jackal's legs and slowly looked at him as he readied his claws, "I can still gut you horribly with these!"

He goes for a bisecting claw swipe but gets a point blank distortion sphere to the face, sending him flying back and causing acidic purple blood to rain down on the Jackal who quickly teleported away from the blood's trajectory. The figure gets up, holding the right side of his face, his own acidic blood not hurting him as he works on putting his eye back into its socket. He blinks a few times before he stands back up, removing the claw from his face, revealing the bone underneath and the fact that his teeth are like daggers and go along the entirety of his skull, following the jawline.

"Now, I'm pissed." said the figure as the world behind him began to crack and fall into itself as his face began to heal. After a few seconds, a large red...abyss has formed in the world behind the figure as a massive purple-black dragon with yellow demonic slit eyes walks out. The figure points at the Jackal and the dragon inhales before spitting a massive purple-black sphere at the Jackal. The cybernetic Jackal fires a red-purple-pink orb at the sphere and the two collide and erase each other.

"Impossible!" growled the dragon in a demonic almost impossible to understand voice as the figure backed up into the abyss, eyes glaring death at the Jackal before disappearing into it. The dragon quickly follows and once both have disappeared into the abyss it quickly disappears, leaving the Jackal alone on the cliff overlooking a lake. He turns to leave before dodging a massive wrecking ball.

"Hello Project Infinite. I see you survived in this timeline. However, I know how to combat you so you can't TRULY win against me." said Eggman as he had his Egg-Mobile ready the giant disco ball like wrecking ball hanging from the underside ready for another attack.

"So, you're the "failure of the future self" that Robotnik hates as much as the hedgehog." said the Jackal turning to face him.

"Hardly. Up until Anti-Antoine showed up, we were doing quite well, now everything's gone down the toilet."

"And you think you can stop me?"

"Hardly. However, I can certainly make a good distraction."

"With a giant wrecking ball?"

"Classics never go out of style."

[Sonic the Hedgehog 1- Boss Theme]

Infinite suddenly appears on the front of the Eggmobile and rips out the vehicle's stabilizer for the wrecking ball and then reappears on the cliff.

"Oh crap." muttered Eggman before yelling as the wrecking ball made the Egg-Mobile drop like a rock and "Infinite" turned away from the soon to be crash site but he stopped when he didn't hear an explosion and turned back towards the cliff face just as a massive metallic dragon rose up from over the cliff. The Egg-Mobile spins into place within the dragon and Eggman cracks his knuckles as several missile launchers and mini-gun lasers pop out of the metal dragon.

"Surprise!" yelled Eggman as he had the dragon open fire on Infinite, quickly annihilating the cliff face with the missile and laser fire yet none seemed to hit Infinite as he effortlessly dodged every shot fired at him before kicking a missile back at the metal dragon blowing off a wing.

"Hey, Eggman, what are you doing?" came Tails' voice over a comm-link.

"Trying to crush an annoying bug." replied Eggman as he kept firing the machine's weapons at Infinite who kicked another missile back at the dragon, blowing off a stabilizer fin.

"Well, that "bug" is kicking your ass."

"No he's not. This Egg Dragoon's only lost like...10% of its integrity."

Another missile blows off one of the mini-guns.

"You're lying."

"Tails, let's not continue this conversation any longer. This whole fight's one bad reference anyway."

After several more minutes of Infinite deflecting projectiles back at the metal dragon, it begins to explode and the Egg Mobile ejects from its connector and begins to fly off.

"Eh, I figured that wouldn't work anyway. Besides, I was just a distraction to keep you from targeting those dropships." said Eggman before laughing as he escaped the battlefield.

"Of course he didn't intend to win." growled Infinite before he teleported away.
