Sorry this chapter is a week late. I was not motivated to write for a while but I forced myself to do so even if this chapter was a struggle to write. Also, this chapter is a bit longer then the others; didn't intend for that to happen but it just did.
Hope you enjoy!
-October 30th-
Khloe
"UGH!" Khloe threw her hairbrush down on her bathroom sink. "Nothing is working!"
"Maybe I can help?"
"Mom?" The frown was replaced with a smile at the sight of her mom, Blair, leaning a shoulder against the door frame. Khloe was almost a splitting image of her mother. Same pure blonde. Same hyacinth eyes. The only thing she really got from her father was her one side dimpled smile. "I thought you were helping dad with something at the office."
"And miss Homecoming? Not a chance." Her mother walked over to her daughter, picking up the disregarded hairbrush. "Now let's get to work."
Khloe missed these moments. Ever since her father became mayor of Heatherfield, her mother and father been too busy to spend much time with their daughter. At first, she felt lonely but as time went on, she has gotten used to coming home to an empty house, having dinner by herself, and having no one to say good night to. Her mother would try and make time for her daughter, by coming to the games she cheered at but ultimately would have to leave to help her father with something.
"So, who were those girls I saw you leave with after the game?" Her mother's comforting voice knocked her back to earth.
"Oh, just some girls I'm working with on an art project."
"You're not working with Hannah?"
"We didn't get to choose our partners." Khloe inwardly laughed at the irony in that statement, knowing Mrs. Lin purposely put the five of them together.
Her mother had a smile on her face as she brushed back her daughter's hair. "They seem nice."
"Yeah, they are." After a few minutes of silence Khloe asked, "How do you know if you have the right friends?"
"Did something happen between you and Hannah?" Her mom looked at Khloe through the mirror.
"Besides her usual attitude no… no it's just … never mind, forget I asked." Khloe looked away from her mother's worried gaze.
Blair took a deep breath. "The way you know is when no matter how angry or annoyed you are at each other, they are still there for you when you need them the most and vice versa. True friends will be able to see through your lies and build you up into a better, stronger version of yourself."
Khloe lifted her head, meeting her mother's eyes again, both smiling. "I love you, mom." She turned and wrapped her arm around her mother's torso.
"I love you too, Sweetie."
CJ
"Why do I have to go?" CJ asked, wiping down a table.
After the whole getting knocked out incident, she stayed at the Silver Dragon helping with the customers and restaurant, feeling like she owned Hay-Lin for giving her the miracle drink that healed her aching body. Now Hay-Lin and Isaac, already dressed Grim Reaper, were pestering her into going to Homecoming, a social gathering she refused to go to, especially since this year it was a Halloween costume theme dance, best costume wins A.K.A Homecoming King and Queen.
"Because if they were to get attacked, they would need you," Hay-Lin whispered so the couple at the table next to them wouldn't hear. "And plus, it's Homecoming!" That part she didn't whisper, instead she practically screamed it and now the whole restaurant was giving them weird looks.
"They could easily call me and I still don't see why Homecoming is such a big deal." CJ went to the back being followed by the two. "Plus, I don't even have a ticket." Hay-Lin held a ticket up in front of her. "I don't even have a costume."
"I can fix that!" Hay-Lin pulled CJ up to her apartment, all the while Isaac was laughing at CJ's continuous complaining.
Izzy
"Why don't you just slick it back with hair gel?"
Izzy looked to the voice coming from the bathroom door.
"I think I'm gonna," she smiled at Jade, her 12-year-old sister, grabbing the gel she extended to Izzy. "Thanks for the suggestion."
"Any time," Jade smiled back, flipping her black hair, sarcastically. "I know how bad you are when it comes to being a girl."
"Ha-ha." Izzy was slicking her hair back as she turned to stick her tongue out. "Get out."
She really did know nothing about being a girl, even if it was dressing up as Heath Ledger's the Joker. The most she knew was how to paint her nails and that was only so she stopped her bad habit of biting them. Not out of boredom or nervousness, like Wynter, it's just a habit she developed after her mom died a few years back.
Izzy took one finally look in the mirror; she had cracked and smeared white and red face paint on, close enough to the Joker's and easily hiding her cheeks full of freckles, she had come to love over the years, thanks to her mother. She contently smiled, grabbing her phone and made her way to the front door, crossing her fingers in hopes to avoid her dad and a photo. However, she wasn't that lucky. Her father stood at the front door with his phone up and ready with Jade standing next to him with a mischievous smile.
"Come on! Picture time!"
"Dad," she whined.
Wynter and Dakota
"Wynter! Dakota! Get down here or you're going to be late!" Satomi called from at the bottom of the stairs.
"Be right down!" Wynter shouted back.
She was finishing up her face makeup as Dakota was slipping on her cowgirl boots.
"What if we get attacked at Homecoming?" Dakota asked, adjusting her baby blue hat in the mirror.
"Then we do our best to defeat them," Wynter replied, holding the Heart up. "Let's just hope that doesn't happen. I feel like that would be so cliché."
The two made their way downstairs to find Wynter's mom and brother, Shiro, standing by the door.
"Oh my, you two look so amazing!" Her mom exclaimed, straightening Wynter's Kyoshi head piece.
"Thanks mom," Wynter smiled then stuck her tongue out at Shiro, who was making faces at his older sister. "So, did you find anything out about what happened at the school? I'm surprised they even allowed homecoming to continue."
With her mom being one of the lead detectives, alongside her partner, Milo, they were the main people who they call to solve a case and, in this case, the battle between the Guardians and Maxar was the current case, but they couldn't know that.
"We think it was one of those team rivalry pranks gone wrong, no other evidence points to another reason but there will be extra security to make sure nothing else happens." Her mom pulled her phone out, pulling up the camera. "And whoever it was is looking up to at least 5 years in jail and that's if they're smart and comes forward but Milo and I will be investigating it more tonight after I drop Shiro off at his friend's house. Now pose."
Wynter and Dakota, wide eyed, looked at each other with the same thought, they were so screwed. Trying their best, they posed for the picture but one thing was certain, there was no way the Order would try anything with the police being present at Homecoming. Right?
-Homecoming-
Wynter had texted the others to meet in the parking lot next to the Gym, all surprisingly agreeing. "They said they're be here soon."
"Then do you mind if I wait with you two?"
The new voice scared both girls into screaming and grabbing onto one another as they whipped around, Wynter gripping the Heart ready to transform her and Dakota. However, instead of seeing one of the Order members, like they had assumed, they saw Chance standing there decked out in his Serine knight armor; all the silver and hit of green metal shinning in the moonlight.
"Chance?"
"Uh…yeah. Sorry I didn't mean to scare you," he said, laughing awkwardly while scratching the back of his neck before it went back to rest on his sword at his side. "My Grandmother thought you girls would like some extra security with all that has happened. Plus, her and Hay-Lin thought I should experience your dimension's tradition you called Homecoming, as well."
"Oh, well… okay," Wynter said, just as awkward as she picked at her nails.
"So Chance," Dakota cut in, saving all of them from further embarrassment. "Did Mrs. Lin or your mom find anything new?"
Their names being called interrupted Chance from answering her question. The three looked to see Khloe, Lincoln and Izzy waving at them as they made their way over the them.
"I should probably wait until all of you are here," Chance said, Wynter and Dakota agreeing to wait till after the dance.
While waiting for CJ and Isaac, the group, surprisingly talked about normal teenager things, confusing Chance so much so that they had to explain those things to him. Khloe was in the middle of explaining cheerleading to him when the roar of two motorcycles caught their attentions.
"Saved by the roar," Izzy mumbled as she pushed off Wynter's car, turning in the direction of the bikes.
Khloe glared at the raven haired girl beside her but refrained from saying anything.
"I can't believe Mrs. Lin managed to get you to come," Izzy laughed, once CJ was off her bike and putting on the pirate hat that easily completed the look.
CJ shared the glare Khloe had for the girl. "Let's just get this over with."
The group made their way into the Halloween decorated gym, already packed with the students of Sheffield high, dancing to remixes of the latest top hits. They found a table in the back corner to set their belongings down before most of them went to the dance floor leaving CJ, Dakota and Isaac at the table. Khloe, Lincoln and Izzy had dragged Wynter and Chance to the floor so the Prince of Serine could experience a classic earth tradition.
CJ nudged Isaac with her elbow, motioning to Dakota who was watching Wynter and Chance dancing, telling him to talk to her. But two hands slamming down on the table stopped him from doing so. The three looked up at Hannah glowering at them through her neon pink barbie glasses. She was alone, which was rare, considering she always had at least two other cheerleaders with her.
"Can we help you?" CJ asked, matching her stare.
"Why the hell is Khloe always hanging around losers like you three?" She demanded, hands curling into fist, taking the black table cloth with her. "She was able to convince Lincoln to follow her but that's not hard to do since he acts like a lost puppy every time she's around. Honestly, it's pathetic."
"Maybe she realized how much of a bitch you are," Dakota spoke up before she could chicken out. "And got tired of it."
The comment had Hannah in shock, jaw slacked, as Isaac and CJ laughed at the cheerleader's reaction and Dakota's boldness.
"Shit, that was a good one," Isaac said, fist bumping CJ who concurred.
A low growl made its way out of Hannah's throat. While Isaac was praising Dakota more for her comment, CJ furrowed her eyebrows at Hannah as she continued to growl at the Water Guardian. It was an animalist growl, one that should not be coming from a human. CJ's eye traveled down Hannah's arms, gray fur gradually growing.
"Vixen," she whispered, once she recognized the fur.
Hannah's eyes shot to her, this time glowing blue instead of her normal brown and a smirk started creeping up on her lips. "Took you long enough." She took a deep breath and calmed herself down, fur and eyes changing back to normal human standards.
Dakota's and Isaac's attention were back on Hannah, or Vixen as the Guardians came to know her. Isaac slowly standing, ready to fight, the two girls not far after him.
"Honestly, I thought you never figure it out," Hannah said, flipping her hair over her shoulder in her typical dramatic flair. "It's a shame you only figure out one of our identities."
"The others must be here too," Dakota said, already looking around but unsure who they could be. They believe the Order must be people close to them, it was the only way all their encounters make sense. "But who…"
"Oh, they're here, don't worry," Hannah snickered before pointing over to where Khloe and the others were still dancing. "Go get the rest of the Guardians and meet me at the football stadium. You have five minutes."
As she strolled off, the three quickly found the others and told them everything.
"You're joking?" Khloe asked, still in disbelief that her best friend since elementary school could be a member of the Order. "Please tell me you're joking."
"I wish we were," CJ said, feeling a bit guilty. "But she confirmed it herself and she nearly outed herself to the whole gym."
"Let's see if it's true," Wynter placed a hand on Khloe's shoulder, who just nodded in return.
The group made their way out to the field, carefully avoiding all the extra security. Along with Vixen, still as Hannah, were the remaining four Order members and Maxar standing at the entrance. All were hold a shadowy sphere like object in their hands and ridden themselves of the black cloaks from before, allowing the Guardians to fully see their faces. However, they were not in the human forms but their real ones so identifying them was not possible at the moment.
"Hey, Babe!" Hannah exclaimed, in her "usual" manner. "You look conflicted."
"Is it true?" Khloe's voice was just above a whisper. "Are you really Vixen?"
"Aw you got me," Hannah faked, before bursting out laughing. She extended her fingers, claws beginning to grow alongside gray fur and this time she didn't stop the transformation, going all out.
"Wynter," Izzy warned, leaning over to the Keeper while also keeping an eye on Khloe, worried she might be an easy target. "I think it's time to transform us too."
Wynter pulled the Heart out of her costume as the Order members readied themselves.
"Guardians unite!"
Maxar had stepped forward after the girls' transformations. "I have one question, where is the Heart of Samora?"
"You think we would know that?" CJ shouted back as she floated slightly off the ground.
Maxar eyed the girl suspiciously but not because he thought she was lying but because he found something oddly familiar about her. "Get them."
With a plan in hand, the Order charged after the Guardians and company, each member having their eyes on a particular Guardian as Maxar kept his distance, watching.
Wynter, paired with Chance, took on Maddox, leading him under the blenchers, taking advantage of smaller space and the size of the man's wings.
"Smart but just because I cannot use my wings does not mean I cannot fight," Maddox scoffed, pulling his own sword from his side, swinging at the duo and effectively cutting through one of the steel beams right next to Wynter's head.
He continued his assault on the beams, stepping farther and farther away from them, the beams blocking their way. Wynter and Chance glanced at one another, confused, before their eyes settled back on Maddox. Wynter carefully flew over and around the cut beams as Chance snaked through them.
"What are you try to do?" Wynter asked, clearing the last beam.
Maddox sheath his sword before pulling out the black sphere from his pocket.
Wynter began to question the object but a cry caught her attention. She whipped her head in the direction just in time to see Dakota being sucking into a black hole, Isaac trying desperately to pull her out. "Dakota!"
Maddox threw the sphere at the pair, a similar hole appearing below them. The force of the pull was too great and Wynter and Chance were engulfed by darkness.
Izzy dodged a flying bench, shooting a fireball aiming for Jinx's face. The woman snapped her fingers pulling a part of the turf up, blocking the Guardian's attack before sending the piece of turf at Izzy. It wrapped around the girl's body, trapping her, each movement causing the turf to constrict even tighter.
"Ugh," Izzy grunted at the tighten turf. "You know, we were… we were told that the Order were people close to us… but with how your face looks like it had one too many plastic surgeries I can't figure out who you would be."
"You brat!" Jinx skreiched, snapping her fingers, sending Izzy half way across the football field and into one of Vixen's pets.
"You okay?" Khloe asked once she pushed the wolf away with a gust of wind and helped the Fire Guardian up.
Izzy could see how hurt Khloe was at the Hannah/Vixen discovery and how it was affecting her fighting ability but now is not the right time to discuss any of this.
"Yeah, I'm good," she said, brushing of tiny bits of turf. She looked at Lincoln, armed with a baseball bat then back at Khloe. "Triple team these assholes?"
Khloe locked eyes with Izzy, smiling. "Hell yeah!"
Combining both of their powers Izzy and Khloe created a whirlwind of fire and air, knocking Vixen back thirty yards, while Lincoln kept her beasts at bay with his bat.
"Where's Jinx?" Khloe asked, looking around for Izzy's opponent.
A cry cut off Izzy's response. The three turned to see a black hole opening up under Dakota but before any of them could react similar holes opened up under them. The two black holes combined, sending the three into the same place.
"It's a shame," Saga taunted, facing off with CJ in the sky.
"What is?"
CJ drew her arm up, a group of vines followed and started binding themselves around Saga's body. But with one flick of her wrist, Saga was freed, the vines fall back to the ground.
"All the other Guardians have someone helping them." She shot a plasma ball at CJ, who easily avoided it. "Even your cousin but you… you have no one."
"Is that supposed to hurt my feelings?"
Saga laughed. "No but that is." She pointed behind CJ.
CJ twisted around, seeing Dakota and Isaac being sucked into a black hole. "Isaac!"
When she whipped back around the same looking hole appeared in front of her, pulling her in.
Isaac tackled Dakota out of the path of the blast Tig shot. "Are you okay?" He asked, pushing a stray hair out of her eyes.
Dakota nodded, her voice failing her.
"While that is rather cute we are in the middle of a fight, remember?" Tig sighed, using the gun he just shot as something to lean on as he allowed Isaac to pulled Dakota off the ground. He, then, sighed again. "I guess I should get this over with."
Dakota and Isaac looked at each other, both questioning Tig.
Using the gun, Tig putted the black Sphere at the pair, having it opening up right under the Water Guardian's feet. Isaac caught Dakota's hand as she let out a cry and tried to pull her out of the hole. Despite the effort, Isaac ended getting pulled in alongside her.
With all the Guardians gone, the Order met Maxar in the center of the field.
"Now, go and kill the Guardians."
So we found out about one of the Order's identities! Were you surprised after finding out? Any clues on who the others might be?
If you were wondering what the groups costumes were:
Wynter: Suki (Kyoshi outfit)
Izzy: Joker (Heath Ledger)
CJ: Pirate
Khloe: Tinkerbell
Dakota: Cowgirl
Lincoln: Prince
Isaac: Grim Reaper
Chance: Knight
