Jonathan had this weird feeling that he was falling…

He was surrounded by darkness. The air felt sticky, and it smelled like sweat, mud, and cheap Deodorant. Jonathan looked around and found himself in the locker room of the Smallville-Crows-football-team…

"What do we want?" Coach Gaines yelled.

"WIN!" the team growled.

"How do we do that?"

"X-K!" the team growled, and everyone hold up an X-K inhaler.

"WHAT?" Jon yelled.

"And who we will blame if we lose?" Gaines sang with a sadistic voice.

"KENT, OF COURSE!" the team growled in unison.

"NO!" Jonathan yelled and turned around to see his father, in full Superman attire standing next to Jordan, who was wearing his Superboy-suit. "DAD?"

"Shut up, Jonathan! You know exactly that your issues don't matter!" Clark said angrily while the whole team start to laugh.

"But… everyone tries to destroy my life…" Jon begged.

"Your live doesn't matter! You don't have powers, you need to be saved all the times and if you wouldn't be with us, Jordan would be much further and stronger!" Clark said and pointed on Jordan who was posing to show his muscles.

"Because I have laser eyes, while everything you are able to do is doing chores and getting coffee!" Jordan said mockingly.

"This is not true!" Jon cried.

"I thought I made it clear from the first day we moved to Smallville! Your brother is always more important than you and his powers will make him always superior to you! Everyone in our family knows that, everyone in town knows that! Accept it: You are useless!" Clark ranted, causing Jonathan to cry.

"Clark, don't be so mean to your son!" suddenly Martha demanded. She was suddenly standing right next to them. "Shut up, you old human nuisance! You have nothing to decide here anymore! Go back to the death and let us do our thing!" Clark snapped back at Martha. Jonathan was shocked.

"As you command!" Martha agreed and left. Jonathan was even more shocked.

"And you, accept that you have no right to demand anything!" Clark yelled back on Jonathan while everyone around him start to laugh…

Jonathan woke up with a loud shriek. Sweat ran down his face and his heart were pounding wildly. It was just a dream…

Tears ran down his face when he thought about everything he just saw and heard. He knew his father would never talk to their Martha like that. And he knew that his parents were sorry for what happened since they moved to Smallville. But there was always a mayor difference between promises and apologies and actual acts! He got a lot of promises but mostly never saw anything.

The latest villain or Jordan's powers were always more important than his problems. That was a matter of fact for his whole life. Even back in Metropolis, Jonathan learned that his own issues were never as important as Jordan's. At some point he began keeping all his problems for himself and only shared them with his parents when they figured out about them by themselves or when he was really forced to. After the move and Jordan's powers kicking in, everyone made him clear that he can never make it up and never keep up with a Kryptonian. As a human he is too weak to.

The recent nightmare made him upset anyway. Jonathan looked around and found himself again in the guest room of this foreign farm. On the foreign Earth! With a foreign Martha and Jonathan and a younger Clark, who knew less about Krypton than him! In a foreign Smallville that seemed more civil and more modern than the one he was forced to live in!

Jonathan left the bed and walked up and down in the room upset. The tears didn't stop flowing and Jon felt that urge to flee out of this place. Away from the farm, away from Smallville, away from anything Kryptonian, from Clark, from Martha, from Jonathan Sr… from everything! Jon had the feeling that the air inside the room got hotter with every second. His throat felt as if someone strangling him. His heart was beating harder and harder.

Panic! That was his first thought! He is having a panic-attack!

Full of fear, Jonathan looked around in the darkness, looking for a light-switch or something like that. The only light he saw, came through the window from outside. A weak one. The full moon was shining brightly from the cloudless sky. Jon stormed to the window and pushed it open to let the cold air from outside into the room.

Seeing the peaceful environment, the cloudless sky and remembering the fact that he was not in his Earth's Smallville helped him to calm down quickly. Jonathan took deep breaths in and out. Just like his brother used to do when he had one of his panic-attacks. It took a minute but finally, Jonathan felt okay again.

That was the moment, Jonathan noticed a foreign car in front of the house. A dark blue sedan was parking next to the pickup truck he saw before. Someone arrived while he was sleeping. He wondered how long he slept this time. A few hours at least and not only five minutes! And then Jon noticed Clark standing outside. Wearing a jacket over his leger clothes and staring over the fields. Jon could hear the wind blowing over the crops. He heard the insects in the fields. Peaceful sounds, that let this place sound as if they were the only people on Earth. In the far distance he saw a blinking light.

Jonathan turned around slipped into his shoes, put on a sweater that was laying prepared on the armchair and walked over to the door. That was the moment he saw his firehouse-shirt laying on the dresser next to the door. Repaired, washed, dried, and ironed. Jonathan smiled at the thought of Martha sewing his shirt back together after Jordan tore it. His mom wouldn't do that for him. She would tell him to go to Kyle and ask for a new one before focusing on Luthor again.

Jon left the room and sneaked through the dark house downstairs and went to the back door. In the living-room he saw Jimmy Olsen sleeping on the couch. So, it was his car, that was parked outside. As quiet as possible, Jon left the house through the unlocked rear door and walked over to Clark who still glared out on the fields as if he expected to see something in there. With his superhearing, Clark could hear Jon approaching him and turned around.

"Jonathan? What are you doing out here?" Clark asked surprised.

"I could ask you the same!"

"I couldn't sleep!"

"You can stay awake weeks without sleep! No surprise!" Jonathan said.

"Oh, I need sleep! Believe me! I am not as strong as your father!" Clark said.

Over Jonathan's story, Clark concluded that he was by far not as powerful and durable as his doppelganger. He still could get hurt! He had to sleep! But Clark was still so unaware about most of his powers, so he was not surprised if there were ways for him to get even stronger.

"What are you doing here?" Jonathan asked.

"I was thinking a lot about what happened! About what you told me! About what you said about you, about your father, about… Krypton…"

Jonathan sighed when he heard that.

"Don't worry, I hate Krypton, too!" Clark reassured him when he saw how annoyed Jon was.

"Well… you can only hate this place when it ruins your life permanently and you are not allowed to know anything about it just because you can't fly!" Jon moaned before he had to yawn. "Agwhh… how long did I sleep?"

Clark looked at his wristwatch. "Hmm… Six hours! Yes… about six hours!"

"That's more I usually sleep on my Earth. Awww… I don't understand it!"

"What?"

"Everything!"

"To begin with?"

"Well… I don't know anything about Krypton, and I don't have powers! And suddenly I arrive in a world with a Superman who knows less about Krypton than I do and seem to have powers! I… I can hear Jimmy snoring in the house, and it doesn't hurt! My brother wasn't able to stand for two days when his superhearing kicked in!"

"Maybe you are not only a late bloomer, but also better suited for the powers. Believe me I wouldn't accept your brother as Superboy after everything you told me!"

"You only say that to cheer me up!"

"No, Jonathan! I tell you the truth! This is what everyone would say whom you tell what happened to you! Maybe… you are here for a reason?"

"And which reason? I mean, if I could choose another Earth to live on, I would choose one without a Superman! No powers, no Kryptonite, no X-Kryptonite, no alien-life at all! Just normal humans and no aliens, metahumans. Where superheroes are not more than fiction!"

"So, you can become a hero?" Clark asked.

"No! To be normal! I don't know what is going on with me! I guess this is because of you and your technology." Jonathan moaned and looked over to the barn, where they had their Lara. "Did she appear again!"

"No! I don't know how to charge it anyway. It's not that I can put in batteries into this thing!" Clark said looking back at the barn, too. "But enough of that! How are you?"

"Fine!"

"Seriously? If it is weird for you to be here…"

"No… please… I… I just have to accept it! If I am really trapped here from now on, I must take it like it comes! I mean… I can't go home anyway anymore!" Jon said. "I blew up the house, I yelled the crap out of my parents… I kind of deserve it!"

"Gosh… you really put the weight of the whole world on your shoulders! How can you be like that with such selfish parents and such a selfish brother?" Clark asked. "Seriously, you are the probably most selfless teenager I ever met! Stop blaming yourself for everything bad that happens!"

Jonathan became pensive after hearing that. It was odd: Everyone was listening to him, everyone was honest to him, helpful and everyone wanted to keep sure that he was okay. Maybe it was Martha's pie? Maybe it was the fact that he met the man he was named after? But he felt a lot better on this Earth! He didn't miss his parents! He didn't miss their farm! He didn't miss their Smallville!

After the barn-scene, Jonathan swore to never ever talk to his father again. To never ever trust him and to never ever open to him when he is in trouble. To safe his own mind and spare himself from another disappointment and more pain. After his father lost his powers, the following escalation of events and the construction of the new 'family-fortress', he calmed down. His father apologized to him and promised to be more around for him, too. But the promises only remained promises and Jonathan asked himself sometimes if it wouldn't have been better to leave, like he originally planned. The bags were prepared! Jonathan never told that anyone, except this Clark, Martha, and Jonathan Sr… but only because the pie was so good… and because they truly listened to him.

Jonathan was unaware that his mother thread his father that she will divorce him if he does not bring Jonathan back! He was unaware that all their friends were working hardly to find a way to avenge Jonathan! He was unaware that his grandmother Lara was extremely mad on his father and Jordan now, because she figured out the real reason, she never sees Jonathan!

Clark looked over to the barn and thought about the device with his mother that was hidden inside.

"She needs a fortress to be active, right?" Clark asked.

"Yes!"

"So… I think the fortress, was the ship that is now destroyed and on the bottom of the ocean!" Clark murmured. "And this thing is looking like my old ship, my parents said! Hmm… I honestly don't want this thing in the barn…"

Five minutes later, Clark and Jonathan stood at the edge of the big crater that was still in the acre after the ship emerged months ago from there. Jon heard the story and could finally imagine how big it actually was. Even if it was partly filled again…

The device with Lara inside was laying in a pushcart and Clark handed the flashlight to Jonathan.

"I have a weird feeling about this! But I feel better when you are here, too!" Clark said. "So, what can we expect?"

"Hmm… in the worst case, a mountain will grow. But if we are lucky, nothing happens and we can go back inside and have another piece of pie…" Jonathan said, dreaming of Martha's pie that tasted exactly like his Martha's one.

"Okay!" Clark said and started to pray, that this is nothing he will regret.

While Jonathan held the flashlight to light up the crater, Clark took the device out of the pushcart and flew it into the middle of the crater to bury it. After a minute he landed back next to Jonathan and together they looked down to see if there is anything happening.

"Nothing happens!" Clark said.

"I think in that case we are lucky…" Jonathan began before suddenly something start to glow in the crater.

In shock, Clark and Jonathan froze when the light in the crater start to spread into the surrounding and the ground below their feet start to vibrate.

"Is this…" Clark began before he suddenly got flashbacks again.

Jonathan noticed Clark's eyes starting to glow before he suddenly got flashbacks, too.

Jon suddenly found himself on the boat again when they watch the new fortress grow, his first meeting with Lara, his attempt to find a cure for their mother, the barn-scene, and the betrayal…

Jonathan shacked his head when his own eyes stopped glowing and he shied away from the edge of the crater that suddenly seemed to fill itself from below. Clark was still dazed but he shied away from the crater, too. He was more scared than Jonathan. There was no noise. No big earthquake. Just the crater seemed to fill itself.

"Is this normal?" Clark asked.

"When my father built the ocean fortress, there was a lot more noise!" Jonathan said.

Suddenly a big hole appeared right in front of them just seconds before the ground stopped vibrating and the lights turned off.

It didn't take long! Maybe a minute or two. And it was so quiet, that Clark's parents and Jimmy didn't wake up! Jonathan and Clark got up on their feet and used the flashlight to shine into the hole that formed on the ground in front of them. There was a stair leading down into the darkness.

"Oh my god… What did we do?" Clark wailed. "Why I did it here? On the farm? What if it emerges again and destroys the fields again?"

"I think you should have buried it in the Artic like my father did!" Jonathan said and risked a closer look.

"Do you have a clue how long it takes for me to get to the Arctic?"

As soon as Jonathan leaned over the hole, suddenly the stairs start to glow, and they could see that they went deep down. Deeper than the crater was and deeper than Clark buried the device.

"Whoa?"

"It's reacting on you!" Clark said. "Like it reacts to me!"

"Kal-El, my son and Kryptonian boy from other dimension, come in!" the female voice from before said warmly.

"Lara?" Jonathan asked.

"Yes! My name is Lara, boy from another dimension!"

Jonathan looked with big eyes on Clark, who was as confused as he was. Wondering how Lara could see that Jon was from another Earth. Jon's heart start to pounder in his chest again. He wanted to run. But that little voice in his heart (that kind of sound like his Martha) overtones the voice in his head that told him to run.

"This is a test! A test!" Jonathan murmured.

"Or your chance to figure out how to get home!" Clark said. "And my chance to learn why I am here!"

Clark reached out his hand to Jonathan. Jonathan could feel his heart drop, but he took Clark's hand to follow him inside. Clark starts to float, and Jonathan suddenly start to float with him. It was not like a flight with his brother. It felt as if this Clark was able to let his flying power flow through his body, too to give him the feeling of flying. And it felt great. Clark let them float down the stairs, carefully watching that they both don't touch anything in there.

The stairs were deep. It was like going down twenty floors. This place was much deeper than his original ship. But it also looked totally different from the first ship, Clark noticed. Jonathan was lost anyway! It was totally not like the fortresses on his Earth. It was so clean and modern. Like in a sci-fi movie, or how Earthlings would probably imagine Krypton.

It was a wide, bright room with white walls. A podium made of 'glass' was throning in the middle. Almost like a stage! Clark floated with Jonathan closer, still looking to not to touch anything. And there was her: Lara! Smiling, happy, earnest!

"Kal-El! And Kryptonian visitor from another dimension! Welcome!"

Jon looked around, wondering if she really meant him with 'Kryptonian visitor' and not his brother. But his brother was not here.

"What is this?" Clark asked. "A fortress!"

"Yes, my son! This place is a remnant of the great technology, our society was capable of! You are a grown-up man now? What take you so long to figure out how to construct this new place! Did the Braniac in your ship prevent you from doing so?"

"What is a Braniac? And why I am even here? And my name is Clark and not Kal-El! Are you really my mother, or are you just a recording from an audio tape? Why you speak English? Why… what… who…?" Clark had millions of questions.

"I am Lara Lor-Van's entire knowledge and her personality! Safed at this place to conserve the information you need to learn about our world."

"She is more like a computer! But the Super-version of it! You can talk to her like a real person!" Jonathan whispered.

"The visitor is right, my son!" Lara said before she turned to Jonathan. "And who are you?"

"Me… I… ehm… Jonathan!"

"Jona-Tan? Jona, what a sweet name? I had no clue that the house of Tan had access to inter-universal travel equipment!"

"House of Tan?" Jonathan was confused. "No… No, I am an earthling! My name is Jonathan! Jon-a-than! And I am not a member of the house of Tan! I don't even know what this is meaning!"

"You are a Hybrid!" Lara realized. "A hybrid from another Earth in the multiverse!"

"You know about the multiverse?" Clark asked surprised.

"We were aware of the existence of other Earths!" Lara said. "You might have countless of questions! And according to you worries and your obvious lack of knowledge about me and this place you are eager to know more. You have questions my son! And you to, Jon-Afan!"

"Jonathan!" the teenager corrected.

"Ask!"

"Tell me everything! Absolutely everything! From the beginning!" Clark said. "To both of us!"

Jonathan nodded. He expected what follows but he also knew that it will be different. And he felt great that Clark wanted him to be with him in that moment. Jonathan and Clark watched the surroundings changing. It was as if they were in a virtual room and everything around them was a video screen. It looked much better than the holograms Jonathan saw in his father's ocean-fortress. More like watching a three-dimensional HD movie.

"Your name is Kal-El… You are probably the only survivor of the planet Krypton! Your father and I made the decision to send you to Earth, as soon as we figured out about the unstoppable doom of our planet…"

The following hours, Clark and Jonathan got an very exciting show and learned a lot about 'this dimension's' Krypton and about the true reasons for the spaceship to attack the planet on thanksgiving…

Several hundred yards away in the house, Jonathan Sr. and Martha woke up with the first rooster-cry as usual. Martha carefully peeked into Jonathan's room to look after her new grandson and was shocked to see that he was gone. She rushed to Clark's room to see that he was gone, too. Together with her husband she went downstairs, woke up Jimmy and they left the house to see Lois arriving in a taxi.

After the evening with her father and her suspicion of knowing about the men-in-black, she went home, was able to sleep for only three and a half hours, before she didn't endure it alone in Metropolis anymore. She just put on fresh clothes and took the next train to Smallville and jumped into a taxi at the train-station in town.

Martha rushed to her, to tell her about Clark's and Jonathan's disappearance and so Lois joined them on their search for the two missed men…

Clark and Jonathan meanwhile didn't notice that everyone was worried about them. With big interested both listened to Lara's story about Krypton, the civil war, the attack on their home, and the attempted coup d'etat of General Zod with the help of the Coluan artificial intelligence 'Braniac'.

Lara and Jor-El were able to steal one of the ships of Braniac and reprogram it to make it safe and insert both of their consciousnesses in it for Clark to never be alone. Unfortunately, the main ship (Clark's first 'fortress') was contaminated with Brainiac which explains the attack after the Kryptonite detection.

Lara was curiously listening to Clark's and Jonathan's stories, too and was happy that her son got found by such kind humans, who raised him like their own. But sad about the destruction of Jor-El's A.I. and about Jonathan's bad view on Krypton, too.

"Your father and I were worried you could be alone! But it is great that you found a family!" Lara said. "I am very happy!"

"And I am very happy that I am not a weapon that was sent here to conquer this planet!" Clark said. "And yes, my family is awesome!"

"Kryptonians are a peaceful race! We never meant to conquer other planets! We specifically chose Earth as your new home, because we knew that the sun of this solar system will make you strong!"

"You were right, Jonathan. So my powers come from the sun!" Clark said when he turned to Jonathan.

"I can't believe your father never told you anything about your dimension's Krypton. You are Kryptonian, too!" Lara said to Jonathan.

"Well… on my Earth you are only allowed to know about Krypton when you have powers!" Jon murmured.

"What a shame! From the day of your birth you had every right to know everything about your heritage. On Krypton none of you would have powers. Luckily this place is best suited to show you everything you need to know."

"Really?" Jonathan asked. "You just let me in here?"

"As I said, you are Kryptonian, too. This is your birthright! Powers or not!" Lara explained. "Here we also have the necessary technology to scan both of you and help you in your development! I am sure you don't have reached your full potential, too Kal!"

"Well… the ice-breath is still missing…" Clark murmured. That was the moment, Clark's superhearing cached his worried friends and family looking for them up there. A short glimpse on his watch revealed that four hours had passed and that it was early morning. "Oh… I should go up and tell the others where we are. Ehm… mother…? Would you allow me to bring in my human family in here? I would love to show them everything, too!"

After Jon's story about being the only one in the family who was not allowed to know anything, Clark decided that he doesn't want to go this way. Everyone should know it when he wants.

"I would love to meet the people who raised you, my son! Everyone you want to be here is welcomed!"

"Oh… great… Wait, I go and get them. And as long as I am gone, you and Jonathan can talk a bit!" Clark said before he left in a blur to talk to his parents, Jimmy and Lois.

Jon turned to Lara and smiled awkwardly. Lara just smiled back in return.

"You know my doppelganger from your Earth?"

"Yes! But not so well! I know she is kind, but I met her only twice!" Jon explained.

"I can only repeat that it is a shame that you were not allowed to know anything about your origin! Krypton is a part of you, too. Your father and your brother do not know what it means to be true Kryptonians, if they believe that only powers make them Kryptonian! You seem to be a very open and curious young man, Jon-athan-El! You should be proud on your heritage and not deny it!"

"It's difficult!"

"Let me give you a present as a prove that you are a full legit Kryptonian!" Lara said before she made a movement with her hand.

The next thing Jonathan knew, was that suddenly his whole body seemed to glow, and he could feel his entire body being covered in a skin-tight comfortable cloth… and a cape that was suddenly falling down his back…

Jonathan didn't notice how he got a suit from his grandmother's doppelganger, the same way his father's doppelganger got one from his father…
