Chapter 52: It was back in Tokyo, I Met My Match
/
~ Weeks after the clean up of Metropolis Metropolis, the Justice League had this to –
Dick shot a glare behind heavy shades as he switched off the hotel television. They'd decided on a game plan and Shiva had called Slade out to Tokyo on business with another old ally to the Deathstroke omnibus. A gentleman with Yakuza branded across his shoulders from the first time that Slade's protégé's eyes had spotted his target.
She was….more than any, familiar and at the same time not. Her long hair was more traditional and her mannerisms quite stoic. She was a pro, Slade had said. Dick didn't care about staying here much longer. Superman wasn't cut out to lead, not by how out place he was among his broken staff.
Dick grabbed his coat and the autumn wind blew. Months. It was not weeks at all. The summer had fed his appetite for a good time now that he'd learned to be, valuable to his master. A monster, just like him. With a hunger not satisfied with a light snack and a good flick on the tube. No, he was…sure there was a teen club not far. Dick didn't tell Slade. These days, he'd take the beatings over being called a murderer of the Titans very lives. They'd lived, while he suffered and grew so shallow.
Dick made his way to an alley were the best parties never died. Even with red light districts being off limits to minors, he'd be seventeen next year in a pinch. At the door, he got what he wanted and looked for his false I.D to flash at the bouncers outside.
Inside, was futuristic sounds and noisy brats.
Like he had once been, with some couples getting cozy and some more reserved for a drink by the bar, "momofuku" style. ( unless this is incorrect let me know!) This had to be a ticket to the police. Now, now in a country he'd never seen beside the Bat, he still loathed that the man withheld those trips. How he'd have wanted to travel like he had as a flying –
The lights became strobe and Dick's wide, glaring eyes spotted a figure snooping in the dark. Was it him?? Did he –
" Yo!" A guy with a rather red shade of spiky locks in a tank and bomber coat threw a drunken arm over Dick's shoulder. "H –
Dick was taken further into the area by the bar, the shadow making a few steps over until it was completely a blur. Dick blinked beneath his shades, eyes seeing a grinning figure as it started to talk, in English.
"My queen wants you, she's coming down. Stay and drink?"
"No." Dick said, a bit of a brushed - off kind of pace in his voice. "No thank you."
"Oh….well, whatever." The other male took a swig as lovers dance until their own bodies turned to light in Dick's clouded peripherals. "Um, you know…her. Who is she?"
"Ah, boss won't tell you that?" The male scoffed. "You are….Wilson. His boy –
"YES." Dick tried to end that. "You, are?"
"Youngest son of Yakuza "overlord" here in Tokyo." The kid took another sip of his drink. "Don't like hiding out much but had to do this. You needed her help, she said."
"She?"
"An ally, a friend. She'll tell you the rest – Oh!" The guy laughed. "Call me, Taka."
"TAKASHI isn't fine?" Dick frowned and faced the bar. "Does it give your identity, away? I ran here too, ah… Slade is…strict."
"Are all fathers not in some ways? Wh…. he calls, you?"
"R – Ric." Dick used the name as a cover now, but it was just a shorter Richard, he wasn't keeping it after their return to the states.
"Eh….Rich-
" Ric."
" Rich is better." Joked the yakuza son. "You saw Kazuya? My big onnii?"
"Yes, he was…like, Mr. Kitano."
"Oh." Taka nursed his drink, the moment a bit off between them. "She'll be here."
"No." Dick turned to his hip and shook his longer hair. It was already past his ears. With the amount of black he wore, the weapon in his pocket was near invisible.
"I don't think she was ever gonna show." He had the gun up to Taka's skull, though the teen just kept drinking. Not caring. It was very….unnerving. Dick had never run into an opponent that had such a glazed and serious look as this yakuza br –
"Move!"
The strike from a blade, and then a thug from behind with a tazer as well…
And a masked woman.
"TAKA." She pointed her blade at the teen as he gulped down last swig of his glass.
" Baka….you thought I'd keep your secret?" He snickered at the masked assailant. "Well, you had better learn to dance with everyone else! Get them!!"
The people danced while the bar was now littered in sharp objects and a trailing film of gunpowder.
"Don't shoot!" The girl dragged Dick's arm back as he tugged it free to face her.
"Why not?? They're-
"It's not you, come." She pulled Dick after her as the floor started to shift.
~Great…it moved?? Really?~
"Told you to start dancing – you're not taking him out."
Dick stared at the masked girl as she was forced to let go. Two guns came out as Dick held them both.
One at Taka and the other….
"I want you both….to tell me your connection with me. My mission is not to kill."
" AHO!" The girl slapped her face as Taka barked a laugh, moving with his own gun in hand. " Want to do this right, cow – boy? I can send this last shot to tell your master for you…."
"You were sent by Kitano??" Dick snarled. "Not if I don't take you out here! Get off my back, I'm warning you…"
The girl looked behind Dick and then up in the rafters.
He wasn't joking.
"Yakuza PUNK .…." Dick clicked the gun, aim sharp and voice angry.
"I said…"
The girl moved too quick for Dick to care that he was another's personal tool. She knew that frame from a memory. Jason had told her to be careful. There was a hitman. Someone else could suffer.
Taka pointed the gun less than expertly at Dick. "YOU are not welcome here. My father is being far too kind by hiring an assassin to put me in my place from another country. We have better killers in Japan than even the Shadows or Triads. We perfected the blade and the pledge of a warrior's honor. "
"OH, I'm not the one qualified to take you out tonight, make no mistake." Dick smirked with a curl at his lips. It would be over soon. Kitano didn't want his son tanking the family business. This was…wrong, but not a lot blood. He had to die.
"Not??..." Taka jerked his head up, but it was too late as the stray - ward bullet grazed his skull.
Going straight to the other side.
Taka stood for a few seconds before toppling. Those noisy brats finally took notice, all before Slade's damn leap and crouch made the whole night even worse.
"Are you alright –
"Deathstroke. " The masked girl pulled out her katana that shone through the space age disaster of the bar's lighting. "Caught you. Renegade, I know you have some memory of me. I'm…"
She pulled up her faceplate a little as Dick's whole resolve melted into the ground. His history be damned…
"Katana….?"
/
Tatsu wasn't picking up. Oh, of course Jason trusted his lover abuser boyfriend to let him leave the premises. BY THE WAY.
All the way in Japan.
Jason groaned and set up his hood, his mask now changed and red again yet not as classic as his biker get-up. "Why did –
He heard screaming and dragged out the setting on his damn binoculars to see as far as he could. Damn, damn her!
"I told her, no slicing the target…"
~ ON IT.~
A mole, but could Jay tell anyone that Rose was on her own team after the beating she'd witnessed? It was no wonder that Tim was ever closer to getting whooped but Jason was on role call here. Boss's orders until they landed.
She swiftly took to the air in a meta – sized leap for the next roof. Jason put away his gear and joined the platinum princess. Slade was definitely close. He didn't have to have a super sniffer to see that Katana's temper had forever gotten loose.
/
Katana looked at Dick and put her face piece back in order, Slade's gaze on the yakuza quite a feat.
"Neither of us have time to face you, child. My apprentice and I are on a tight schedule."
"He knows what I am, coward!!" She drove forth as Slade dodged and Dick. He fought, yet only to block with a stolen blade from one of Taka's thugs. "You….I'm not wrong. Wake up –
"Awake…that's what you think?"
"Of, course! You and Batman. The Outlaws?? I could never forget."
" Apprentice ; disengage."
"He's not a robot." Huffed the long haired samurai girl. "Come with me, you need to find them. This is all –
"Renegade has already fulfilled his part, my dear." Slade was getting impatient. "Apprentice. DO NOT RESPOND. Do as you are told."
"Sir…I…"
Slade came forward and with his gun and aim, his pistol caught her arm or tried, Dick seething as the shock made him crouch.
"I have a little something against fighting dirty, old timer."
Slade looked up to see his traitor of a daughter staring down. " Konbanwa! How's Tokyo been far ya, daddy?" Rose landed beside Katana and got out her twin swords with a grin, her mask back to a grey and silver blue. "How about we make this a two on two?"
"Or three." A shot rang as Dick held his hands off of his ears long enough to check who'd fired the last bullet in the air.
"Everyone, get lost! Fight is breaking out, that's right." He shooed the girls and the guys dragged each other out. Some limping, others shaking. "Nothing to see here." Jason sniffed. "Right, Goldie?" He asked with a sideways grin.
"Three on two it is!" Rose chimed in, her blades moving faster than Dick's staff could keep up.
"You learn those moves from your grandpa ??" She cackled and turned into a flying kick. Dick pushing her off before swinging his staff in a twirl to send her airborne. He gawked up to see her coming right for him as she dodged by the bar.
Jason went after Slade with Katana, yet they had both decided to swap out so Katana could take to Dick and get him from Slade. It wasn't until Dick's punch shot out to give Rose a wallop she'd not expected. Her bloody nose was healing rather slowly since the shock had her now…extra cautious.
Dick moved , running to catch up with Jason as Rose winced by the hit to her face. That was, a Slade sized move….but how?? It had too much power behind it!
"Jason… shit!"
Slade had done what he'd done to his damned kids, saved them to save himself and his reputation. Dick was not himself, but if his trauma was real and still there, he could come unwound and that. That , would ruin things for the right people.
/
Dick moved beside Slade, yet he knew that Jason and Katana were in sync. Trying desperately to break up Renegade and his master. A fog drifted on as Dick's staff smashed into Todd's toys. The scowling, now hooded individual grunted as Dick's brow looked troubled by the way it arched too far down.
"DICK….IT'S NOT TO-
He was rejected as Dick made his appearance, suddenly swap. The colder his gaze, the safer he would be.
Katana fought Slade and knew from Shiva's damned data she'd hacked with Jason's help that this was cause for alarm. Their would be no alliance in her city! "You must get out of my country; the people do not wish to be controlled." Their blades met as Deathstroke just ignored her, his eye bent on keeping Dick from needing spirited away by the Bat's allies to enemies. His , allies for now.
"Your apprentice is a friend….and I won't let you harm him –
"Can you even stop me with your Soultaker, Katana?"
She moved to his left, but he was ready and swept under, her feet leaving the floor as the blade found his flank. Animals like Deathstroke weren't long for this world as Dick saw the damage and forced his staff tip to open up, a shock – point soon holding Jason back.
"STOP!"
"He is the enemy." Katana held her blade over Slade's head. "You'll be free. You'll be no one's property. Let me –
Dick launched the staff like a javelin as she swiftly dodged, his knees bent now to go to….
"Dick…. let the bastard pay!" The antihero was in duress, Dick was too clearly dependent on that…
"Not now, Jason…. please…." Dick tried to lift the man under his arm as the platinum princess came down hard, the butt of her blade hitting Dick out cold. She panted, catching her breath as Katana looked over at the two ko'd killers.
"Brain - dead Dickie…." Jason clicked his tongue and started to lift Slade up, the two others not sure how to take this image.
Slade…was out and, they'd won!
"Help me." He beckoned Rose, who grunted under her breath before having at Slade's bleeding flank.
"Nice weapon. Magic?" She admired the gash that Katana's best friend had left in her father's ribs.
"It is, protected." Katana thought back to her betrothed and thought no more of his face within her sword. Soultaker was cursed, and she held well to the responsibility of honing just as great an unbidden desire to have her revenge on those she connected as, dishonorable.
"Let's get going, the base isn't where I wanted to stash these two." Todd told his crew. "And, I need to make a quick phone call."

So, what comes next? Will Dick not trust that the heroes are safe while Slade is out of commission? Find out! Is this plan BY Deathstroke or did he really miscalculate? Find out.
