In his nest, as the Shadows overtook the land, he twisted and turned. His White fur contrasted starkly with the surrounding leafs and foliage that made up the apprentices den, and made him stand out to anyone who looked into that very Den.
He was asleep, Fast Asleep, it was pretty easy to fall asleep at his age and when you woke up at his time.
He Darted through the Forest, Shadows followed him. As he ran he saw one of them close on him, slowly, as the green foliage rushed past him it drew ever closer. He didn't tire, strangely, but the moonless night was lit up with no star and the only light seemed natural radiance from some unknown source, which casts shadows beneath the tall trees and allowed for him to see his surroundings every slightly. He had hardly idea where he was trying to go, but anywhere but those shadowy figures worked for him.
As he ran he nearly tripped over something, he looked back as he ran and saw it. It was a tree stump, and not just any tree stump, but the one that they used for the game of seeking and hiding! He knew where he was, and for the dim light emitted by that unknown source was just enough to guide him to camp, where safety surely awaited and the embrace of familiar faces would protect him from this…Darkness
As he ran he jumped clear over the ditch where he and Dawnpaw had hid from Graypaw during that exercise. He was close now, just mere fox-lengths away. His paws hammered against the ground as his energy seemed to increase as Hope blared through his mind. The Dark figures followed him, hardly 2 fox lengths behind them and keeping his pace. He Jumped through the camp entrance and skidded along the Floor of Thunderclan camp, his claws extended grinding against the stone.
"Help!" He called, he thought his Friendly Warriors, the Cats of Thunderclan, Friends and Family mixed in with Trusted Cats would be out there in a flash, but the clan did not show itself. As the Dark Figures began to surround him he darted for the apprentices den, the dark figures padded after him, slowly closing in.
"Graypaw, Dawnpaw, someone show themself please!" He yowled as he stared into the Den, yet to his horror and astonishment all he saw were scattered bones. They weren't prey bones, and he recognized them unfortunately.
They were Cat bones. He gazed at them with horror as he backed away slowly. Dread filled his mind as he realized the bones belonged to
"No…"
Dawnpaw? Graypaw? All dead? His brother too? Tears streamed from his eyes, and as he turned he saw the Shadowy cats in very close Proximity. His eyes, glazed and wet with his tears of Sadness and Grief, turned towards the Highledge and Leaders Den. He hoped to Starclan, praying in his mind, that Brackenstar was in there. He bounded towards The Highledge and Brackenstar's den, whipping his head behind them and the Dark figures slowly followed him, they seemed to walk with patience and intimidation, which was horrifying in itself. Never had he had this experience before, and as he Sped towards the Den he saw Brackenstars dark Tabby shape come out and walk towards him.
His eyes beamed with hope, as he ran towards Brackenstar he felt like Victory, or some sort of it, would emerge from this disaster.
"Brackenstar!" He said, coming to a stop hardly a tail length from his face, "You gotta help me, they got Dawnpaw and Graypaw! And all the apprentices, None of the Other Cats will help me!"
As he watched he noticed Brackenstars Typical Amber eyes were missing, instead, forming an image of terror, His eyes were replaced with Darkness.
"Brackenstar?" He asked, as he saw the Dark Figures surrounding them forming a circle, which was complete with Brackenstar. He watched as Cracks spread up Brackenstars fur, Darkness spreading out from his Dark Stripes through his brown pelt until he was pitch black, his eyes invisible simply forming a Dark, Faceless shape.
"Your Clan will be ours." One of the Figures said, their red eyes glowing as they stepped towards him.
"N-No…" Frostpaw said as his wet eyes leaked tears.
"Your clan will be ours."
Suddenly the Image was gone and he was curled up in his nest. Dawnpaw brushed him with her paw.
"You were mewing in your sleep." She said, her Green Eyes beaming.
"Oh, was I?" He asked
"Yeah, what were you dreaming about? You kept saying No." She said, her tail wavering.
"Nothing, just a bad one." Frostpaw told her.
"Oh." She said solemnly.
Suddenly there was a commotion outside the Den. The Two of them halted, suddenly Frostpaw felt a curiosity to what was going on. He quickly got up, flexing his muscles. Even though it was a dream, or a nightmare more accurately, he still felt sore in his paws.
He exited the den, brushing through the brambles of the entrance, and the first thing he saw was the few cats in camp rushing towards the entrance. He followed their trajectory and his gaze settled on the camp entrance, whose gap was filled to the brim with returning cats.
The Raiding patrol! They were back! He rushed to them, crossing the space between the apprentices' den and the camp entrance with only a few leaps and bounds. He felt tired, probably because it was late, but he felt like some of it was because of that nightmare ... .Nightmares should stay exactly that, as nightmares. They shouldn't leak into the real world at all.
As he reached them he saw their wounds, which were few and Far between. He sighed with relief as he counted the cats, and they were all here, mostly unscathed.
"How did it go?" Aldergaze asked Brackenstar, who looked at his mate with pride.
"It was a total victory, we found one of their patrols and ambushed them while they were on the border. They had 5 cats with them, and 2 were apprentices. We got them by surprise and we gave them far more wounds than they gave us." Brackenstar said.
"Did you kill them?" Shrewpaw asked, his brother seemed to be a bit concerned for the Lives of the Enemy cats, and it was a good thing too, if they had killed them it made them no better than those who took the lives of the Thunderclan Patrol.
"No, of course not." Brackenstar said, "I left them with enough wounds to hopefully scare Skyclan out of villainy." The Brown Tom Said.
"Good." Frostpaw said. His mind returned to his dream, what did it mean? What if it became reality? His head started to ache, he stalked past the cats heading out of camp. Unlike usual no one paid attention to him, the apprentice made his way towards a spot which he found great comfort in, quickly reaching it with his increased pace. The Hill, near to the Thunderclan camp, was overlooking the lake and covered in trees. It was a pretty spot, one which he had a little misadventure in when he was a kit
He sighed, sitting down. The Dirt was surprisingly soft, and it wasn't an uncomfortable spot.
"What are you doing out here at this hour" He heard a voice behind him, he turned around and saw Dawnpaw going through the Brush towards him
"Thinking, and why are YOU out here at this hour?" Frostpaw said, his White Fur Glinted in the Moonlight and her Ginger fur did the same. The Reflection of the moon shone on the lake, and its brightness was more than enough to light up the clouds, their dim silhouettes standing against the stars which stretched in a great band across the sky.
"I'm out here following you, wondering why this little apprentice is out in the middle of the night with all this tension between the Clans." Dawnpaw said, and at that Frostpaw grimaced, she had a good point since there was literally just a raid on Skyclans Patrol and who knows how long it will be until they strike back.
"I'm thinking, I told you." He retorted, the Ginger She-Cat huffed.
"I know you better than that." The Ginger she-cat said, Frostpaw knew by now there would be no lying to her. He didn't want to lie in the first place, truth be told he did have a lot to think about.
"You're right." He meowed, sighing. His tail waved in the gentle breeze which wafted through the trees and brought a chill of comfort to him.
"My dream tonight…it wasn't just a normal dream." He said, he took a breath, not wanting to draw back on those recent and horrible memories.
"I can tell by now." She said with concern, she looked into his eyes with a pleading eyes. "Tell me Frostpaw, what was it about?"
"In the Dream…no…Nightmare, I was in the woods." He started, his voice shaking. "I was running from something, I think they were Cats. They were Darker than Silverpelts sky, and they were fast. No matter how much I ran they kept following me, and after a While I ran to camp…but when I got there it was deserted." He said, he stopped for a moment and decided to leave out the part where he found her bones scattered across the floor. "I went to Brackenstars den…but the cat that came out wasn't Brackenstar…It was something else, it was evil, and then they surrounded me and started chanting that the Clan will be theirs." He said, "And then I woke up."
"Oh." She said, "Did you talk to Ravenheart?" She asked.
"No, you're the first Cat I've told." He meowed, the breeze stopped for a moment and the Leaves wafted down from the trees reminding them Leaf-Fall was here and Leafbare was bound for their Lake and Home soon enough.
"You should talk to the Leader, or your mentor or probably the medicine cat." Dawnpaw meowed, shuffling her paws. "They know about this kind of stuff, they can help you!" She said. Frostpaw sighed, he knew she was right and that they'd listen to him…probably, but how would he explain it?
"You're right." Frostpaw said as he looked at the moon. Its Gray and White Circles dotted it. He had heard from Warriors who were descended from ancient kittypets that they had been able to understand twoleg speak, and claimed the Twolegs had been to the Moon. He doubted it personally, although maybe that was where they had gone, to live among the stars abandoning the World for Nature to retake.
"I'll tell them tomorrow." He said, if he squinted it he could see the other side of the lake, the distant frontier that was Riverclan. He had heard Rumors from Warriors that Riverclan had a special Device that could float on water, a piece of wood strung together by vines. Those were rumors of course, although if they did what would stop them from attacking them with them.
"Good, I'm worried about you." She said, the she-cat brushed by him, giving him a last glance as she returned to camp. Frostpaw sat there for a moment, and gave a sigh as he too returned to camp.
As he walked he wrinkled his nose, the breeze had increased and it was getting chilly outside. He rushed toward camp, not wanting to experience the freezing night any further. He bounded into camp, which was quiet with the exception of warriors chattering their night talks.
He quickly snuck towards the apprentices den, making no noise as he did so. He saw his fellow apprentices in there, Dawnpaw had somehow fallen asleep already and the others were in deeper slumber. He curled up in his nest, letting the sweet embrace of sleep enclose him.
He awoke early, a strange thing given his time of sleep. He quickly heard the commotion outside, it was hardly dawn and its dim light was casting illumination on the forest floor. Warriors were already gathering in a spot as a cat yelled unintelligibly.
He quickly rushed out, the Sun slowly cresting the horizon as he made his way to the warriors as the words from the cat became clear.
"Skyclan is coming! Skyclanian Warriors are arriving from the border!"
