As a Shmidt, she was proud of her name and the history behind it. How could she not when they could trace their ancestry up to five hundred years ago. A story of conquest, pride and cunning.
She was "born" from an experiment. Her father wished for the perfect heir and made contact with an organization that had the means to give him what he wanted. A year later she was born and ready to train as an heir.
Out of a thousand tries, she was the only success. The perfect genetically engineered gifted human.
She could read mind better than her father, she was stronger and more importantly she was MADE for this. It only took her one year to master everything she was taught and, she also took pride in that.
One day, as she played around with her gift she heard one of the guards think about hydra and kept listening. Apparently, her father made a mistake and the family needed to be silenced.
She tried to get more information but it seemed her luck ran out. She knew of hydra, the organization was worldwide as her father had explained and more importantly, they had resources one could only dream of.
An escape plan was needed. As much as she wanted to believe her family was strong enough to survive an attack from them, she knew better. Breaking in her father office, she searched for anything useful and that's when she found it. A simple note with a name she never heard before Eric Shmidt.
A brother discarded from the family because of a "useless" gift. The informations were few but he was abandoned somewhere in the USA and his name was changed. His new name was not written but she had a date and a country, that would be enough to start.
Putting a few important papers aside she would use for blackmail or as bargaining ship, she fled at night. Disappearing was not as hard as she thought, a few mind suggestions, new papers and boom! Freida Shmidt was now Alice Lematin.
She made sure to travel around for a few months, always using cash before she finally took her plane to the USA, she had a brother to find. Luckily, he would hide her and if not, she would at least meet him.

The Shmidt family was no more. Every Shmidt, from distant family members to the main line were either killed or disappeared.
SHIELD had been completely blindsided and Fury was not happy. Something so big should have been known before their contacts asked about what happened. A whole well known family with contracts all the world disappearing in a twenty-four hours? Something big happened and he had to know what.
Agent Black widow was investigating as were twenty other agents but they had little to no informations for now. Aside from clues that may be pointing to an internal fight but that did not explain how no corpse from the main family were found.
For now, SHIELD would keep quiet and investigate. They could not do much more anyway.
