"~Kristoff Speaking For Sven~"
-Chapter Start-
For a month, the kingdom of Arendelle had been busy. The citizens were hard at work, tending to fields and homes. While others had more strenuous jobs.
Not a day passed that Elsa didn't spend hours sitting behind her desk. Desperately signing papers and handling disputes. All while worrying about what would come later in the spring.
Naruto would visit his girlfriend as often as he could. Stopping by to bring her a drink, massage her shoulders for a few minutes, or simply talk. Trying his best to keep her happy, when he himself wasn't busy.
Most of the time the blond ninja was helping around town. Doing any manual labor that was required, and with the farms being planted, there was always a lot to do. Which didn't leave him with much free time to read in the library.
Anna, was less busy. With the need for ice growing every day, Kristoff spent most of his time up in the mountains. Leaving the redhead alone with Olaf.
However the princess wasn't idle during the month. Choosing to help out where she could, while trying not to cause trouble for anyone. But most of her free time was spent thinking.
She would gaze out the open windows, looking at the far mountains where the trolls lived. And while she stared, she would try to remember the past that had been covered up. All the happy memories of her time spent playing with Elsa. Before the gates were closed.
There was sledding on warm snow covered days, and skating on frozen ponds under the bright sun. All things Elsa could do with her magic, anytime she wished. But for Anna, there was no magic in her memories, only the smiles she shared with her sister were real.
With a sigh the princess pushed herself away from the windowsill she had been leaning on. Too eager to spend anymore time thinking. Because, with the month ending, she was going to take everyone up the mountains for a rest. While finally talking with Grand Pabbie about her missing memories.
With a skip and a hop, she was walking down the carpeted hallway. Making her way towards her sister's office. Where the queen was on her last stack of papers to sign.
"Oh Elsa," the younger sister sang as she opened the door.
With a flourish of her pen, the eldest finished off a request and set it aside. "Hello Anna, shouldn't you be getting ready for our trip tomorrow?"
"I wanted to make sure that everyone else was prepared, since I've been ready since yesterday."
"Well, I only have a few more papers to work through, before I'm done," the queen smiled, seeing the end of her work. "Have you talked with the others yet?"
"I've already talked with Olaf," Anna recounted. "Kristoff and Sven should be home any minute now, so I'll talk with them next. And I haven't found Naruto."
"Have you checked the library?"
"Why would Naruto be in the library?"
"I don't know," Elsa admitted with a sigh. "He's been reading a lot of books recently, but no one knows why."
"Maybe he's finally taking his language studies seriously."
"Maybe. If he is, it will make dealing with foreign guests easier."
The two sisters shared a laugh. Grateful for the moment together, but both knowing what was to come. The words of Ambassadress Babette about other rulers wanting to meet Naruto were becoming truer by the day. As more letters from different countries came in each day. All of them talking about sending royal envoys to Arendelle. By this point, Elsa only needed to decide when to hold the ball, and then send out notices to every country that had asked.
It was going to take a lot of work to host all the guests. Thankfully, there were still a couple months until the summer season, when the royals would be able to visit.
After a few more minutes of talking, Anna left her sister's office. Choosing to walk to the stables in the courtyard, where Sven usually slept. If the ice harvester and his reindeer were already home, they were sure to be there.
"Hey!" the princess yelled, sticking the upper half of her body through the stable window.
"Hay," Kristoff called, dropping a bundle of wheat on the floor in front of his companion, who gave a grunt in greeting.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" the redhead asked.
"Yup," the reindeer loving man answered. "Sven and I go into the mountains almost every day for work. It'll be nice not having to bring back ice this time."
"Such is the hard work required of Arendelle's Ice Master and Deliverer," Anna said, watching her boyfriend finish feeding his best friend.
The blond sighed, still not convinced that his title was a real thing. Although he had long ago given up arguing against his girlfriend. "Without asking I know you're ready."
Anna smiled, "Of course."
"And now you're going around checking on everyone else who is going on the trip tomorrow," Kristoff continued.
"Right."
"You've probably already seen your sister."
"I just came from her office."
"I'm surprised Olaf isn't helping you find everyone."
"I checked with him first, and then he went into town to enjoy his new personal flurry."
With a loud grunt, Kristoff heaved Sven's harness onto a bench. Where it could be easily cleaned.
"Which means the only one you might not have talked to yet is Naruto."
"I can't find him," the princess admitted, leaning against the doorframe of the stable. "Elsa said to try looking in the library."
"Why would Naruto be in the library?"
"And that question is why the library is the one place I haven't looked yet."
"So you're headed there next," Kristoff stated. Leaning down to pick up a brush from the floor, while his girlfriend moved closer to him.
"Maybe in a little bit," she sang, as a devious smile graced her lips.
"Why, what do you need to do before then?" The ice harvester's question was silenced as a pair of soft lips pushed into his own. Preventing any more words from being spoken, as soft moans filled the stable.
Sven looked away from the couple. Trying to give them some privacy by moving to the other end of the building. Where Kristoff had left a bundle of carrots unattended.
*break*
Later, when Anna had finished with her boyfriend, the princess arrived outside the library. A room she had spent years of her childhood in. Reading the many books inside a castle that had closed its doors to the outside world.
But now that the doors had been reopened, the redhead had only gone in a few times. Haunted by the memories of what had happened inside. Preferring, instead, to spend her time out in the village with her family and friends. She had even found a bookstore that had a more current collection of literature.
With a simple push, she opened the familiar doors. Moving into the simple room that had several tall bookcases lined along the back wall, and a single soft red couch in front of a fireplace. The same fireplace that Hans had extinguished in his attempt to kill her.
"Hello Anna," Naruto called out from his spot on the couch. His speech was still stiff, but getting better.
"Hey Naruto," the princess responded. Turning her focus towards the blond.
"Are you looking for something?" he questioned.
"Just going around, making sure everyone is ready for our trip tomorrow."
The orange-loving man nodded. Placing the book he had been reading on the side table, as he stood.
"I understand. You do not need to worry, I am prepared to go to the mountains tomorrow."
"Great," the redhead cheered with a smile, walking farther into the room.
Stopping at the table, she looked at what her friend had been reading. A simple book that she had read at only six years old. It was actually one of the first books she had finished by herself as she was learning to read.
"Why are you in the library Naruto?" the princess questioned.
"I am trying to improve my reading for selfish reasons," the blond answered with a laugh, while scratching the back of his head. "I am still a long way away from being good."
"Hmm," Anna hummed, watching the ninja intently. "I can't think of a single time you've ever done something selfish, so I think you're playing a prank."
"If I can read better, I can help more people," Naruto admitted. "But I have more personal reasons, for wanting to read better."
"Hmm." The princess feigned belief, moving across the room to one of the large bookcases. "When I was young, and learning to read, Mother always made sure there were plenty of books that I could reach."
Leaning forward, she pointed towards the bottom two shelves. Where many simple books were lined up, ready for little hands to grab and read them.
"These! were the first books I could read by myself," Anna proudly stated. "Before that, Elsa would read them to me."
Naruto listened intently. More fascinated by the story than the actual books. But gained an interest at the mention of his girlfriend. Perhaps reading them would give them a closer relationship.
Anna gave a smug smile to the ninja. "Tell me when you're done reading these," she ordered. "I remember them all, so I can quiz you and see how well you did."
"Understood," Naruto declared. "I will be sure to read these carefully."
For the rest of the afternoon, Anna spent her time reading in the library. Simply browsing through some of the books she had grown up reading. Revisiting the worlds and characters that carried her through childhood.
It had been a busy month, and it was nice to relax before their next adventure.
-Chapter End-
This was not the hardest chapter to write, but life sure liked getting in the way of it. I'm not happy with how short this chapter is. I held this chapter for a few weeks in an attempt to add more, by adding on the beginning of the next chapter. But I was unable to finish that section in time, and I really liked where this chapter ended.
With this chapter done, I can now begin work on the next several arcs. All of them should flow together nicely, and quickly.
Few quick things I wanted to mention.
Naruto reading in the library. I know it's weird, but I have a plan. It won't be answered for a long time, but I'm setting up for something good.
Speaking of the library. I didn't know this when I was planning things out, but the room labeled "Library" in the castle is the same room that Hans left Anna to freeze to death in. It's also the same room where everyone plays Charades in the second movie. I am going to have fun with this knowledge.
I don't believe it's ever explicitly stated in any of the movies, but Anna is a big fan of reading books. Which is surprising with how animated she is. But growing up locked in the castle probably left her with little other entertainment options.
Also, because when else is this going to come up, Elsa loves geometry. This has been canonical since shortly after the first movie, and given the line about "frozen fractals" it makes sense.
I'm finished with this chapter now. The plan is to get another chapter out in January. Thank you so much for reading, and take care.
