A Way Out.

The interior of the Chula ship was a mess; hardly the more militaristic, barrack-like space she had expected the interior of the time ship to be, but the Doctor didn't care as she examined the ship.

It had been so long since she had actually been inside another time ship.

For her, this was the best news she'd had ever since her exile to Earth which started when she had asked the Time Lords to send her back in time to the 1930s.

And considering how she had discovered in the Matrix the lies about her origins when she and Jamie and Zoe had hidden inside the Matrix for a bit when they'd managed to make that little escape attempt shortly after her own trial, where she'd given them a good account of her travels in time and space, and how she'd continually acted in what was in the best interests for history - relaying her encounters with potential timelines before telling them about her enemies, like the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Quarks and the Dominators, and the Ice Warriors before they had taken a recess so they could make their decision.

In the meantime, one of the Time Lords had brought Jamie and Zoe to the courtroom. After that, they'd escaped, but instead of going to the TARDIS and trying their luck, the Doctor had taken them to a Matrix chamber. When they were inside, the Doctor tried to discover a foolproof way of getting the TARDIS away from the Time Lords, and from Gallifrey.

She had found out the legend of Salyavin was true, and she'd learnt he and her old friend, Professor Chronotis, were the same; he had been imprisoned on Shada, temporarily but he'd escaped and he used his TARDIS and his mental powers to blanket the whole of Gallifrey and made them forget him.

But the Doctor had found something else, something she hadn't expected.

The Secrets of the Time Lords.

The Secret of the Timeless Child.

Okay, the Doctor hadn't originally intended, nor planned, on delving so deeply into the Matrix, but when she had gone inside she had dug around for more ways of getting away from Gallifrey; Salyavin had shoved all of his mental powers into the telepathic field that blanketed the Time Lords, and the stress had caused him to regenerate. The last thing the Doctor had wanted was to do the same thing, only to regenerate; oh, she'd known there was the chance she would be forced to change again, just to hide her biodata and put the Time Lords off for a little while she and her friends worked out their plans.

But….

Deep down…

The Doctor had always known there was something about herself, how she seemed to know so much about the Time Lords, time travel, and so many other things, and why she didn't seem to fit in with the other Time Lords on the whole; even her old friends with the Deca were more in line with the typical mindset of the Time Lords. Even the Corsair and Drax who were both renegades were more Gallifreyan than she was.

When she was in the Matrix, she had looked into her past…and she'd discovered something horrifying and shocking.

She, the Doctor, was not from Gallifrey.

She was an alien from a different reality, who'd been brought to Gallifrey after she'd been found by an explorer from Ancient Gallifrey, and they'd given the Time Lords the power of regeneration, while Rassilon, Omega, and Artron worked out the particulars for giving the charge of regeneration energy from the Untempered Schism, before the final charge from the Eye of Harmony (oh, it existed), and she knew precisely what it was, what Rassilon and Omega had created.

But the Doctor didn't care about that; when she and her friends, reeling from the level of the lies the Time Lords had buried so well nobody knew the truth, had left the Matrix, she had been stunned. But, determined to get away from Gallifrey for good this time, and desperate to not have any more to do with the Time Lords, the Doctor had rushed to the TARDIS landing bay…but the Time Lords had stopped them. In the end, the Doctor was exiled to Earth and she'd chosen a female incarnation after becoming bored with the choices, and she'd asked to be sent to 1930s Earth, so she could wait for time travellers to come to her.

For a decade, the Doctor had waited and adjusted to her new body, repairing her TARDIS, having fun, and waiting for other time travellers.

She had become aware of the presence of time travellers a few days ago, and she had tracked them down to this ship, a Chula ship with time travel capability.

The Doctor set the controls of the ship to leave Earth's atmosphere once she had picked up the pilot's presence (he had a vortex manipulator) and she set them for the 51st century. She should be able to get her hands on a few vortex manipulators, and a Chula time-travelling ship.
