Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto & I do not own gold.

Summary:

Naruto's life, his golden hair, and the hidden leaves caught by it..

The Truth About Gold

Gold.

Something to covet,

An element

To hold dear.

Beacon of light.

But not born from it.

Discovered in darkness,

Seized by rough hands.

Strained muscles and

Calloused fingers

Forced it to the surface.

Misjudged.

Jagged and unrefined,

It's mistaken for worthless.

Used without thought,

Reason, or purpose.

Thrown to the shadows,

Lost, unacknowledged.

But if you scrape the surface,

Sunlight catches-

Gold.

Strands that tug at the wind.

Stronger within.

Tangled with hidden leaves,

It's acknowledged and noticed.

A real beacon.

With thought and purpose.

Never was worthless.

Buried or brought to the surface,

Polished or unruly,

Smoothed or untamed.

When it's seen,

Cherished in shadow

Protected from light,

Unreal

Just how precious

Gold

Can become.

Author Note:

I did a very rough version of this a while back, and realized that it could use a little refining of its own.

I honestly hope you didn't see the original.

While gold, and the coveted Naruto, can be rough on the outside and still hold value- sadly this poem cannot.

So, thank you for reading this one- especially people who came back to give it a second try. I truly appreciate all of you.
