Poseidon's foot tapped the floor, impatient. His wife wrapped her arms around his left bicep, leaning her head on his left shoulder as they sat waiting. They've been sitting in the waiting room for over two hours with no updates.
They received very limited details about what has happened. All they knew is that there was another car accident and one of his sons is in critical condition and the other one is in stable condition, they didn't know which son is in which condition.
Poseidon could take a probable guess as to who caused the crash as he imagined it's the work of his father. He just needed a letter to confirm if it's true.
Poseidon isn't going to be turning over rocks to find the letter as that isn't the priority at the moment. His main concerned is for the current welfare of his sons.
"Hey."
Poseidon opened his eyes not realizing he closed them in the first place. Apollo was standing in front of them with clipboards in his hands.
"Follow me." Apollo quietly instructed.
Both Poseidon and Amphitrite followed Apollo. Poseidon squeezed his wife's hand in support as she was trembling with every step she took.
Apollo led them to an empty room with three chairs. Poseidon began to experience déjà vu as the set up is very similar when he received further news about Percy's accident in California.
All three of them sat down, both of the worried parents waited for their nephew to inform them about the condition of their sons. The other medical professionals have not been informative.
"I want to start off and say that Percy will be fine. We are monitoring him closely as it seems like he has another concussion, which would be the third in less than a year which isn't good. His left arm has been broken in the crash and it has been reset."
Apollo took a breath before continuing, "Unfortunately the impact caused his prosthetic to jam around his stump causing the remaining bone to shatter. He will need further amputation, but the doctors want to wait to see if his head injury will cause further complications if he is put under anesthesia."
Poseidon nodded mutely. It could've been worse, Percy is very lucky to survive two car wrecks.
"As for Triton, he's in surgery. He's in the best hands, the top of the state surgeons are currently working on him." Apollo tried to reassure the parents.
"He has broken several ribs which one rib has punctured a lung. They're putting in some rods to help put them together and to help heal in the correct place. For the lung; he will have a chest tube placed to let all of the air escape for the next couple of days."
Apollo paused, "The main concern is the internal bleeding. They're are several tears the surgeons are trying to stop, and his spleen completely ruptured. I'll need the two of you to sign this form."
Poseidon took both of Apollo's clipboards from his hands and handed one to his wife numbly.
They didn't utter a word as the seriousness of the situation put a rock in their stomachs until Poseidon looked over the form.
"This isn't the form I usually sign?"
Apollo sighed, "No it's not. The other forms you've signed are consent forms. This is a liability form, in case the surgeons aren't able to..."
Apollo didn't need to finish the sentence as the parents knew what he meant. Amphitrite buried her face in her hands to stave the panic that began to build, she quickly signed the form not wanting to look at anymore.
Apollo took the clipboards, "I'll see if I can get you to see Percy."
After Apollo left the room, Poseidon rubbed his wife's back as she tried to hold her sobs back.
"Apollo said they have the best surgeons working on him. Triton is strong and competitive, he will not let Percy beat him in survival. He's too strong headed to give in that easily, we need to have faith that he will fight." Poseidon said more to reassure him than his wife.
Apollo bribed the other medical staff to let both Poseidon and Amphitrite visit Percy as they waited for Triton to get out of surgery.
Percy's left arm is in a sling and his stump is bandaged up. Poseidon gently pushed back Percy's hair from his face.
Poseidon sighed as it reminded him of the time in California - The whole day was a reminder of that fateful crash back in May.
"Uncle P, I have some questions regarding Percy's prosthetic?"
Poseidon frowned and turned towards his nephew, "What about it?"
"The paramedics brought the prosthetic with them and I was able to catch a glimpse of it before the police confiscated it as evidence-"
"For what reason would it be evidence?"
"I was getting to that point. It appears it was modified, the prosthetic has a built in knife."
"A built in what?"
"Knife. And it had blood on it. Has the police talked you yet?"
"No! It had blood on it? Whose blood is it?"
"I was hoping the police would of gave you details as I don't know. You don't know anything about Percy's prosthetic being a hidden weapon?"
"No I did not! I don't know where he would've modified at as he hasn't been anywhere but school and the aquarium."
Apollo shrugged, "I can ask Hephaestus, in case he knows anyone who would've had the capability to modify it."
"I don't really care who modified it. I just don't understand why Percy felt the need to have it done without telling me about it?"
"I think it's wise, and judging from the blood on the blade it could've been a different outcome." Apollo commented exiting the room giving the parents some privacy.
Poseidon glanced back towards Percy. Percy told him there was nothing else he was hiding from him, but that seemed to be a lie.
Both Poseidon and Amphitrite watched as the surgeon walked away after informing them of Triton's condition.
They managed to close all the tears and repair his spleen in time. They also put in rods into three ribs to hold them in place as they heal, and inserted a chest tube to let the air escape from the punctured lung. He wasn't completely out of the woods, but it is a great relief to the parents to hear that their son is still alive.
"Hey. How are they?"
Poseidon turned towards the door to see his sister enter along with Hades trudging behind her.
"Hestia? Hades? How did you..."
"The crash is all over the news. It doesn't take much to put two and two together. Plus I got another call that confirmed it."
"Did Apollo call you?"
"No. The police called me."
"The police called you? I haven't even spoken to them yet."
Hestia and Hades shared a glance, before Hades closed the door.
"Zeus is speaking to the police at the moment."
Hestia clarified.
"I don't understand why the police got in contact with you when they haven't spoken with me or Amphitrite?"
"They didn't call me to inform about Triton and Percy."
"They didn't?"
"No. They called to inform us that father is dead."
"Oh thank the gods!" Amphitrite said in relief.
"He's dead?"
"Yes, as you can probably guess he's the cause of the crash. He was in the other car and died on impact."
Poseidon wanted to laugh, it's over. He's too drained to let anything but a small chuckle escape his lips.
"There's something else." Hades added.
All the joy of hearing about how is father wasn't a problem anymore vanished.
"What?"
"Luke was there. The witnesses said Luke approached Triton's car a second after the crash with a knife and attempted to hurt the passenger - which in this case was Percy. What is it that I'm hearing about Percy's prosthetic having a knife in it?"
"I didn't know it was in there until Apollo mentioned it three hours ago. Though if what I'm hearing is true I couldn't be anymore pleased with the fact." Poseidon said thanking whoever was watching out for his sons.
Hades continued, "One witness was able to tackle Luke and threw a couple of punches. Zeus is talking with the police to see if he persuade them to convince the judge to hold Luke without bail after he's released from hospital."
Poseidon nodded letting the information sink in. He almost lost both of his sons, and to hear his father and Luke was no longer going to be a problem brought array of mixed emotions.
Poseidon focused on the papers which Hades is shuffling through, "What are those?"
"I was able to snatch your sons medical notes. I've seen people who had less trauma afflictions on my table."
"Hades!" Hestia hissed.
"But I'm sure your sons are going to pull through and make a recovery."
Hestia shook her head before turning towards her brother and sister-in-law.
"You two should probably grab something to eat, before Triton is wheeled back into the room. Hades and I can watch Percy." Hestia politely offered not leaving much room to decline.
Poseidon nodded and took his wife's hand and lead them out of Percy's room and towards the cafeteria as they probably will not be able to do once both of their sons are awake.
Percy knew something was wrong as he gained consciousness as everything hurt.
His whole body ached from head to toe. He felt like he was thrown in the microwave to defrost. Well, that is what he thinks it will feel like defrosting in a microwave.
The worst of the pain is his stump, head, and left arm. It was obvious why his stump hurt as it was just amputated, and he remembered the doctor saying he got the concussion during the crash.
He didn't remember hurting his arm. Maybe it was delayed? Is that even possible? Can you not feel pain until days, maybe weeks later? He lost track of time since he was in the hospital, has it been days or weeks?
He felt a hand caress his hair, he blearily open his eyes. He frowned as his eyes landed on Hestia and Hades, they were sitting to the left of him. Hestia was the one petting his hair.
"Percy, how are you feeling?"
Percy didn't answer as he closed his eyes confused. Why are they in California?
