A/N: I wrote this ten years ago and finally got around to editing and posting it. I hope you liked it :)

An ordinary scene in the feudal Era, a girl with black hair dressed in a green school uniform shouted at a white haired hanyo. Watching them were a fox yokai named Shippo, Sango who was a yokai slayer and the monk Miroku, whose hand was dangerous close to Sango's backside.

"Here we go again." Shippo shook his head.

"Don't worry about it, Shippo. Tomorrow they will be back to normal." Sango reassured him.

"I agree. This is normal for them just like my dear Sango said. It would be unusual if they wouldn't fight." Miroku added.

"He could be right on that one." Shippo agreed.

Suddenly a slap could be heard.

"Miroku!"

"I'm sorry, my dear Sango. It was the cursed hand." Miroku, now with a red hand print on his cheek, apologized.

"We all know that this wasn't the fault of the curse." Shippo said rolling his eyes.

While the three talked Kagome and Inuyasha were still fighting.

"I just want to go home for a day. What's so bad about ONE day?" Shouted an angry Kagome.

"We can't search for the jewel shards while you're home. You stay, wench."

"You know, I have a life on the other side of the well. I don't live to be your shard detector."

"You can have your life there back when we have all jewel shards. Then I don't need you anymore and you can stay in your time. You're weak anyway."

The moment this words left his mouth, Inuyasha regretted them immediately. He didn't mean any of this, he wanted her to stay after the jewel was completed again and he didn't think that she was weak.

'How could he say that to me? I was hoping that I mean something to him, but obviously I was wrong. He will never love me back. I will just stay until the jewel is completed, then I will leave like he wants me to. From now on I'll only talk to Inuyasha when it's really necessary.' With her decision made Kagome turned to Inuyasha.

"Kagome I-" Inuyasha started, but when he looked into Kagome's eyes he stopped. They were full of hurt and then turned hard and empty.

"Inuyasha, I give up on you. We're through." She stated coldly.

After she had said that she went over to her three shocked friends, who had heard the last part of their conversation.

"I'll be back tomorrow evening." She said and hugged her friends goodbye before jumping into the well.

When she was out of sight Sango was the first who recovered from the shock.

"I think Inuyasha went too far this time. He really hurt her."

"Yeah I think so too. This time she seriously hates him." Miroku agreed.

"What a jerk. Kagome will come back, right?" Shippo asked afraid.

"Of course she will be back tomorrow just like she promised." Sango smiled reassuringly at him.

"But she probably won't treat Inuyasha the same." Miroku added.

Sango and Shippo nodded in agreement.

Inuyasha still hadn't moved from the spot, where Kagome had left him minutes ago. He didn't hear what his friends were saying, he was too shocked to react.

`I give up on you. We're through.ยด These words repeated over and over in his mind.

'What does she mean by that? I know that I went too far this time, but when I apologize everything will be okay.' Inuyasha didn't understand the seriousness of the situation.

He thought that this was just like every other time when they fought. He would call her a wench and she would call him a jerk and sit him. After a while everything would be back to normal, he was sure of that.

In the modern era Kagome had a different opinion.

While she left the well house and made her way to the living room she acted like nothing had happened. She greeted her mom warmly and told her that she wanted to take a shower.

During her shower Kagome thought back to her fight with Inuyasha and a few tears made their way down her cheeks.

'It feels good to let my feelings out without anybody knowing and worrying about me but still. I can't believe that Inuyasha thinks about our relationship that way. It just hurts so much.' Kagome thought, laying a hand above her aching heart.

This time she was really heartbroken. Inuyasha and her fought a lot, but never had he said something so hurtful to her.

"Kagome, come down dinner is ready." She heard her mom shout from downstairs so she turned off the shower, put on new clothes and went to the living room.

On the other side of the well Inuyasha couldn't sleep. By now he had realized that something was different about this fight, but he couldn't put his finger on what it was. He only hoped that when Kagome was back he could talk to her.

The next morning Kagome woke up fully rested thanks to her comfortable bed. Today was Saturday so she didn't have to go to school, but it was also the day that she would go back to the feudal era.

Kagome sighed deeply. She knew that she had to face Inuyasha soon or later.

'If Inuyasha thinks that I'll forgive him, he is so wrong. I'll ignore him and only talk to him if it's really necessary.'

"Good morning, how did you sleep?" Mrs. Higurashi greeted her daughter when she came downstairs.

"Good, I finally slept in a bed again." Kagome smiled.

"Isn't Inuyasha coming today to get you back to the feudal era?" Sota asked, excited to see his role model Inuyasha again.

"No, I'm going back on my own." Kagome stated.

"So you won't stay for school on Monday?" Grandpa asked surprised.

"No, sorry." Kagome answered.

"Oh no, then I have to explain to the school why you aren't coming. Again." Kagome's grandpa sighed.

"That won't be so difficult, you always come up with a great excuses." Kagome reassured him.

"True." The old man smiled at his granddaughter.

Kagome was happy to spend some time with her family after she hadn't seen them for so long. They were always there for her and she knew that they always would be.

After they had eaten, they sat a little while longer together and talked, so long in fact that they didn't notice how late it already was. It was already time for lunch so Kagome helped her mom in the kitchen.

"Kagome, I noticed that you seem sad when you came back from the feudal era." Her mom said after they had worked in a comfortable silence for a while.

"Inuyasha and I had just another fight about me going home."

"Do you want to talk about it?" Mrs. Higurashi asked softly.

"No, it's okay. I know how to handle this in the future." Kagome reassured her mom.

"Okay, but you know that you can always talk to me." Mrs. Higurashi was curious what her daughter meant by that, but she respected her decision to handle it alone.

Later that day Kagome climbed out of the well on the other side and went to Kaede's hut. When she entered Shippo was the first to greet her.

"Kagome, you're back. I missed you." He said and hugged her.

"I missed you too, Shippo. I have some new candies for you." Kagome smiled at him and gave him the sweets.

When Shippo jumped up and down happily Kagome looked around and noticed Kaede, Sango and Miroku sitting by the fire pit. She was relieved that she didn't have to face Inuyasha just yet and sat down next to Sango.

"While you were home we found out that a yokai with a jewel shard is in a village nearby." Miroku informed Kagome after greeting her.

"We thought of leaving for that village tomorrow morning." Sango added.

"That's fine by me." Kagome agreed.

She didn't bother to ask about where Inuyasha was, she would see him in the morning anyway. The little group around the fire discussed more details about the yokai that they would be fighting, while they ate the dinner that Kaede had cooked.

Inuyasha had smelled Kagome's arrival from his spot on the Goshinboku and was really confused why she didn't look for him like she normally did.

'Why isn't she coming? Kagome always comes to tell me she is back. She can't be still mad at me for what I said, can she? Feh I don't care.' Inuyasha tried to calm himself down, but he had a bad feeling about this.

The next morning came soon and the gang got ready to leave. Kagome ignored Inuyasha's existence and did everything to keep it that way.

"Sango is it alright if I ride on Kirara with you?"

"Of course, Kagome."

Inuyasha was hurt when he heard what Kagome had decided. Why didn't she want to ride on his back like she always did and why did she still ignore him?

The group traveled the whole day. When the sun began setting, they decided to camp by a river. After Inuyasha had caught some fishes for their dinner, he went over to Kagome to give them to her.

"Here."

"Thanks." Kagome said coldly.

Inuyasha flinched when he saw the cold look in her eyes. Normally she would thank him with one of her bright smiles, but not today. Slowly he began to really worry about the situation.

After dinner Kagome and Sango decided to soak in the hot springs that were nearby. When they were sure that the guys couldn't hear them Sango spoke up.

"Have Inuyasha and you talked yet?"

"No. He really hurt me by saying what he did during our last fight."

"You know how he is when he is angry. He surely didn't mean what he said about you not needing to come back after the jewel is completed." Sango reassured her friend.

"Even if he didn't mean it, it still hurt me."

"I know." Sango could feel Kagome's pain.

"I'll just ignore Inuyasha."

"Do you really think that's a good solution?"

"At least it will protect me from getting hurt."

"If you want to hear my opinion. I think that you should talk to him about this, maybe it will help." Sango suggested.

"Talking isn't what will help us."

Meanwhile Inuyasha and Miroku had a conversation of their own. Shippo sat with them around the fire pit, quietly listing.

"I think that you should try talking to Kagome." Miroku mentioned.

"I won't make the first step. This isn't my fault." Inuyasha said defensively.

"Have it your way, but this time Kagome isn't just mad at you, she has given up on you." Miroku concluded.

"Yeah, you really screwed up this time." Shippo spoke up.

"No one was asking you." Inuyasha chased after Shippo.

After Sango and Kagome were back, the group got ready for bed. Inuyasha decided to sleep on the tree above Kagome's sleeping bag.

'Even if she hates me right now, I'll protect her with my life.' He thought sadly.

The next morning came soon enough and the atmosphere between Kagome and Inuyasha stayed the same.

A while later they arrived at the village and found the yokai in question in a forest nearby. When the yokai saw that Kagome had the jewel shards, he attacked her to get them. Inuyasha was about to hurry over to her and protect her, but her voice stopped him.

"Don't." She said coldly.

"But Kagome-" Inuyasha tried to argue.

"I can handle this myself. I'm not weak." She stated with hate clearly visible in her voice.

Inuyasha was shocked to hear that. Was what he had said to her a few days ago getting so much to her? He didn't think that she was weak and he didn't want her to go back to her time when the jewel was completed. He hadn't meant any of that, but it seemed like Kagome took it to heart.

Inuyasha's thoughts were interrupted when he saw the demon coming closer to Kagome. He wanted to do something, but he knew that she wouldn't let him.

It turned out that she was right. She defeated the yokai by herself. Maybe she didn't need him at all, while he realized how much he needed her.

After she was done purifying the jewel shard, Kagome went back to her friends.

"That was impressive, Kagome. Are you sure that you don't want to bear my children?" Miroku asked.

The slap that followed his words was to be expected.

This night, while the rest of the group was asleep, Inuyasha was deep in thoughts.

'What if she had been harmed in the battle today just because she wanted to prove to me that I was wrong? I promised myself that I would never let her get hurt. I care about her and she needs to know that, but after how things are between us now, I won't get a chance.' Inuyasha sighed sadly.

In the morning the group began traveling back. Sango and Kagome decided to walk, so Kirara could rest a bit. After two hours of walking Inuyasha had finally enough of the situation. He could deal with an angry Kagome, but with her ignoring him he couldn't.

"Can we talk?" Inuyasha asked, falling in step with her.

Kagome froze in her tracks, but recovered quickly.

"I don't know about what."

Miroku, seeing that the two needed to be alone for a while, spoke up.

"Just catch up to us when you're done talking."

Sango and Shippo nodded in agreement and all of them walked away.

"So what is wrong with you?" Inuyasha asked when their friends were out of sight.

"What is wrong with ME? You're the one who began all this." Kagome said angrily.

"No, you're the one who acts strange. Why did you ignore me?"

"If you don't know that by now we don't need to talk any further." Kagome started walking away in the direction their friends.

"Kagome, wait." He stopped her by holding her wrist.

"What is it now?" Kagome asked annoyed.

"Listen Kagome, I-I-I'm sorry okay." Inuyasha knew that he had to speak up if he didn't want to lose the person who had showed him friendship, trust and unconditional love.

Kagome blinked surprised. Did he really apologize to her?

"Inuyasha." Was all she could say.

Inuyasha looked deep into her eyes and knew that now was the perfect time to confess his feelings. Despite still being scared of rejection, he knew that for Kagome he would put his heart on the line.

"Kagome, you're really important to me and I'm really sorry for what I said to you."

It was the closest to a confession Inuyasha had ever come.

'Was this a confession? I need to make sure.' Kagome thought a little confused.

"What are you trying to say?" She asked for clarification.

"Damn it Kagome don't you understand? I love you."

Kagome gasped in surprise. It wasn't the most romantic way to confess but it was typical Inuyasha. In the end all that mattered was that he loved her.

"Oh Inuyasha, I love you too."

Inuyasha couldn't believe his luck. This was the best moment of his life, but one thing could make it even better.

Inuyasha encircled his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. Then he closed his eyes and leaned down to kiss her. When their lips met in a loving kiss they had finally found what they had been searching for. True love.
