X: X-ray
"Jack's late again." Bunny stated as he sat close to the fire.
From a big chair nearby, North replied, "Bah! No such thing as being late. No designated time. Just a general idea of time."
"He'll be here soon, Bunny. He always is." Tooth responded, fluttering nearby. Sandy nodded from the couch he was sitting on.
They continued conversing while waiting for Jack to arrive. North was just about to grab some cookies from the kitchen when Jack came bursting in from the window with a strong breeze flowing through the room causing everyone to shudder from the chill. Just in front of the window, Jack stood holding his left arm close to his body, saying, "Sorry I'm late. Got held up by something. Let's get started."
"Okay. Let the meeting begin. I will go first. The preparations for Christmas are coming along nicely. The Yetis and I have been working on sleigh improvements to make it even faster and more efficient for getting around.."
"The fairies are starting to become more independent so I am able to go out in the field more often and able to take more breaks which has given me a lot more free time. It has been quite enjoyable so far."
"There's not much to do on my front quite yet since it's still too soon to begin painting eggs but I have been practicing/creating some new designs for the googies."
Sandy formed pictures of sleeping children and a thumbs up.
They all looked towards Jack, expecting him to begin speaking, but he had his hood up and from what they could see of his face, he was grimacing. "Jack?" Tooth said.
His head shot up and he turned towards them.
"Yeah?"
"It's your turn."
"Oh. OKay. Not too much on my front. Just waiting for fall to leave so I can do my stuff. I've already begun doing morning frosts so it won't be much longer before places start receiving the first snow of the season." Jack said quickly.
"Thank you Jack". North replied. "Now that the meeting is over, Jack, what is wrong? We see you holding your arm."
"Oh. That. Nothing really. I just hurt it falling from a tree while sleeping. It'll be fine in a few days."
"Mate, at least let us look at it in North's infirmary. So we can determine how bad it is. If it's broken, it will need a cast or at the very least, a brace of some kind." Bunny told him.
"Fine," he replied.
The five of them went to the infirmary and began pulling out stuff they felt they may need.
Jack stood off to the side when North motioned for him to come to him. Jack went to North, who was standing beside a machine. North said, "Ok, Jack. Let's take an x-ray of your arm. If you place it on the table." Jack carefully took his arm away from his body and placed it on the table, with his elbow unbent.
"Good. Now I grab the machine and we will look at the arm bones and determine if they are broken or not."
North turned the machine on and waited for it to print the images. Meanwhile, Bunny was rifling through cupboards when, "Aha! Found it."
"What'd you find Bunny?" Jack asks?
"A sling for your arm. It keeps you from moving it and lets you have your other arm back till we can get something else on it."
Bunny handed Tooth the sling the she helped Jack put it on. North and Sandy were on the other side of the room examining the x-rays.
"It looks like his arm is broken so we will need to put a cast on it." North said.
Sandy nodded and made a sign of a four leaf clover and an arm with an arrow pointing to the forearm.
"Yes. It is lucky. Much easier to fix and less annoying to deal with for him."
Bunny came over to join them and said, "So, is his arm broken?"
They both nodded.
Bunny looked at the x-rays and upon closer examination, he noticed something.
"Hey, can you see these lines further up here? It means he has broken his bone before."
Sandy and North looked closer and they saw it too. In fact, they saw two or three just on this arm.
"What is Jack's dominant hand?" North asked.
They both shrugged. Bunny yelled towards Jack, "Hey Jack! What's your dominant hand?"
"My left. Why?"
"Curious."
Returning back to North and Sandy, he said, "This is his left arm, correct?"
They nodded. "So it would be the arm he uses for everything from holding his staff to catching something which probably includes himself. He has a habit of sitting in tall places so he has been bound to fall off and hurt himself a few times. That's probably where a lot of this came from."
"Yeah. You are probably right. Should we ask him anyway? Just to know and tell him to be more cautious?"
Sandy shrugged and bunny responded, "Eh. I don't know if it's that important. 300 years is a long time and it could be worse. At least he isn't clumsy."
"Okay. Let's go grab the stuff for a cast and fix him up."
They grabbed the supplies and they soon had Jack in a cast -Jack chose light blue as the color- and they all had signed/drew on it. They left him with instructions on how to care for his srm and when he could come back for it to be checked and taken off. Jack thanked them and flew away. He was thankful they didn't ask how he actually hurt it because it wasn't falling from a tree.
He knew that they would find out eventually but hopefully not until he was ready.
Now if only the fall spirit would leave him alone and let him start his season when it was time. Fall tried to hog all of it until December which just wasn't right. But, that was a problem for another day. For now, Jack would go to his favorite tree and take a nap. It was a long day and he was tired.
