Dr. Helen Magnus, Ashley Magnus, Henry Foss, and Dr. Will Zimmerman sit around the former's office reading the reports about the increasing abnormal attacks. When Helen closes her file, she looks at the others:
"We need to figure out if this is a naturally occurring phenomenon or if it is an intentional act, because while I have seen such thing occur, I have never seen it in such a way, it's not in the nature of most abonormals to kill for the simple joy of it…" before she can go on Ashley replies sarcastically.
"You do see the irony in the fact that my dad is Jack the Ripper, right mom?"
With that comment the air in the room changes and both Henry and Will grow more and more uncomfortable while the silent stretches.
Fortunately, Big foot, or as most called him Big guy enters the room followed by John Druitt.
Ok, maybe not fortunately at all.
"John." Helen says her voice as cold as her eyes or maybe even more.
"I'm afraid I don't come bearing good news, my dear Helen."
Ashley just rolls her eyes. "that's really surprising, I thought we'd need Sherlock to figure that one out."
"I am your father and as such should be treated with respect." Ashley simply snorts in disgust.
'Oh, hell this is awkward' Henry thinks as he shifts his eyes back and fort between father and daughter, before Helen breaks the silence.
"Shall we head to the lab?" Helen says, for the first time noticing the bag Druitt carries with him.
Not two hours later Dr. James Watson and his mysterious "we" were on their way and Druitt was locked in a level-three residential cell equipped with an EM shield.
Meanwhile at Stargate Command General George Hammond was getting quite tired of Sg-1 antics, well Jack and Daniel's, Teal'c was just there, and Sam while not being present was the base of the problem.
"Come on sir when was the last Carter asked for down time, and more than a week at that?" Jack asked for the hundredth time.
And George wondered yet again why he was still there, he should have retired years ago.
"At least she would have warned us, right, I know she wasn't comfortable with having the goa'uld here… did she tell you why she left?" Daniel asks.
'damn if I knew' thought George but he wasn't about to tell them that "Gentleman when the president orders me to give someone down time, I give it and I don't ask question, do I make myself clear?"
Silence meets him "Do I make myself clear?"
"Indeed, General Hammond."
"Yes, general you do."
"Colonel O'Neill?" General Hammond asks yet again.
"The president you say?"
"Out of my office now the three of you."
As soon as they're out on the hallway Jack turns to the others "we could go by her house once we leave the base."
"O'Neill, I do not think that is wi…" but Daniel cuts Teal'c of before he can go on. "Well, I'm done for the day should we go now?"
"Yup."
Yes, the Tau'ri were indeed strange people.
When Daniel and Jack arrived at Sam's place she wasn't there, neither was her car and her suitcase.
"You know Daniel this is not something Carter would do."
"Jack, maybe something happened to her brother, and she didn't have time to warn us, she'll probably call us later."
"It doesn't make sense, the President called Hammond just to let Carter go on down time, and I can assure you the president doesn't do that to anyone, tried it myself a few years ago and didn't work."
"Why would you do that?"
"Kawalsky" Was the only thing Jack said like it should answer Daniel's question, and weirdly enough it did, because he had known Kawalsky.
"Call Carter Danny-boy".
After trying for a couple of times he gives up. "She's not answering."
"Yeah, I got that!"
The next morning at the Sanctuary Helen got the surprised of the decade at her front porch, oh, not because Sherlock Homes was at her front door, not at all, but who was behind him. Her little girl
"Sammie!"
"Mom." And before Sam can say she's enveloped in a bone crushing hug.
They start walking towards the main lab.
"So, what did you bring with you James, besides Samantha?"
"Corpses."
"Of course, you did."
As they arrive at the lab they can see Ashley, Henry, and Will already inside.
"Dr. Zimmerman I'd like you to meet Dr. James Watson, and Dr. Samantha Magnus-Carter." And out of nowhere Ashley and Henry hug Sam squishing her between them.
"Sam you're back."
"It's good to have you back Sam, us geeks got to stick together."
"it's good to be back."
"Should I be jealous that you haven't greeted me yet Ashley." James asks with mock hurt, noticing Dr. Zimmerman's slight frown in Sam's direction.
"Sorry James, it's good to see you to."
After a minute where Will, Sam, and James look at each other, Sam, and James turn to Helen with a smirk on their face "so the protégé?" they say at the same time.
"You two are incorrigible when you are together did you know that?
"Twin sisters?" Will asks more to himself than anything else.
"Daughter." Sam answers before Helen can
"of course, I didn't know because you don't trust me." Will directs the statement at Helen but, yet again Sam's the one who answers.
"Oh, she might trust you, I don't, seeing as it's the first time I met you".
As they watch Helen and James perform an autopsy on one of the abnormals Will finally asks Sam "so you're in the Air force?"
"I am, just got promoted to Major."
"A bit young to be a Major, aren't you?"
"Do you have a problem with it?"
"No, not at, I mean it makes sense people would know who your mother is…"
"Dr. Zimmerman if you are implying that I climbed up the ranks because of my parents you couldn't be further from the true. As it stands everyone thinks my mother is dead, and her name is definitely not Helen, and until last year the commander of my base was the only one who knew my dad… should I go one."
"I didn't mean it like that…"
"I think they're done with the autopsy."
"I'm sorry Sam…"
"It's doctor Carter." She says before leaving and joining Helen and James in the lab.
Later as James, John, and Will sit around the study to drink, Helen and Sam do the same lying in Helen's room.
"So how exactly did you get time to come out here Sam?"
"I might have called in one of my favors."
"Sam… why?"
"I'm worried, ok. I know it's selfish, but what if it starts affecting other places, Colorado Springs included, and I'm on the base, you do realize they wouldn't be able to stop me. At this point I think only a cell would."
Helen pulls Sam into her side and her heart nearly breaks when Sam exhales a broken "I'm a monster mommy."
"Oh, my dear Sammie, you are not, if anyone here is one it's me."
"Mom…"
"Sam had I not inject the source blood, your father's genes would be dormant, therefore you would never…"
She's cut off by Sam's laughter smothered against her shoulder "What?"
"I Wouldn't be alive if you hadn't used it, you know, dad was kind of born almost a century after you, you know that's definitely the definition of a MILF…" A pillow flies right into to her face. They look at each other and burst out laughing.
"Samantha Elizabeth Magnus-Carter!"
The room is silent for a few minutes before there's a knock on the door and Ashley picks her head in "Can I join in?"
"Come in kiddo."
"I've missed you so much Samalanca." Ashley says with a smirk that just grows more when same grunts and hides her face in Helen's shoulder and whines "mom"eHele
"What do you have in your hands Ashley?"
"Sam's baby album."
And yet again Sam utters a "mom" and once more Ashley ignores it plucking herself on the other side of the bed leaving Helen in the middle.
Opening the book, the first picture was one of a very pregnant doctor Magnus.
The next was again of an exhausted looking Helen and Jacob holding a sleeping newborn Sam.
She'd been in labor for 13 hours. Jacob and James had already been kicked out, and now she was starting to regret it.
"Old friend please shoot me if I ever want to go thru this again. And please call Jake back."
Five minutes later Helen was sitting in her birthing pool with Jacob behind her when Big Guy says that she can start pushing and push she does until she leans back against Jacob, crying.
"I can't do it anymore Jake, please, I can't. I'm so tired."
"Come on Helen"
"I can't Jake, I… I'm scare I want my mother."
"Hel… do you want me to get my mother here? She's waiting outside if you like."
"Please Jake." She pleads with him.
"I'm here Elly."
They both look up at Mrs. Carter, both surprised to see her already there, she just shrugs and looks at the Big Guy.
Martha sits down in front of the pool and proceeds to coach Helen thru the birth.
"Come on Elly that's it darling you're doing great just think about the baby girl you're about to bring into this world."
"I can do this."
"Yes, you can Elly, yes you can."
And Eleven minutes later Samantha Elizabeth Magnus-Carter was born and place on her mother's chest by her grandmother.
Behind Helen, Jacob looks mesmerized at his firstborn.
"You did it Elly."
Looking at Martha with tears in her eyes Helen nods unable to form words, with that Martha and the Big Guy leave the first-time parents alone.
"She's beautiful Helen."
"She really is Jake."
The words are barely out of their mouths before Sam starts screaming at the top of her lungs.
"Oh darling, just a second now." Helen whispers
"Do you want to go lay on the bed."
"Hmmm." She hands Samantha to Jacob who helps her onto the bed.
Two hours later James comes in to see Jacob and Helen laying in one of the infirmary beds looking at a sleeping Sam.
"She's beautiful, you really did a good job."
"I'm pretty sure I did far more than Jacob over here."
"Funny Helen, really funny." Jacob says good naturally.
Clearing his throat over the bickering couple James asks. "May I take a picture of the three of you?"
"Sure"
When Ashley, Helen and Sam finish looking thru the album it's pretty late in the night.
"You were a pretty cute kid Samalanca."
"Thanks Ash."
"Of course, then you grew up…"
"Ashley Mae Magnus!"
"What mom?!"
"Go sleep."
"Can we stay here?" Ashley asks.
"Please mom." Sam adds for good measure. Two pairs of wide blue eyes look up at Helen "please."
"Fine."
"Thank you mama." "Thank you, mom."
