Chapter 8: Night Out
—-
Thursday April 13th, Class 1-A
"The UA sports festival is about to begin."
"Don't scare us like that!" The class yells in unison.
The whole class begins talking amongst themselves, each voice their excitement about the upcoming event. All the while Aizawa grows more and more tick marks.
"Is it really okay to hold the sports festival so soon after the USJ attack? I mean, villains broke into a U.A. facility. Wouldn't the public be unsure after that?" The 'creation' quirk user asks.
"The school wants to show that they have the situation handled. Plus, they are beefing up the security by having extra pro-heroes on patrol." Aizawa answers.
"This is the best opportunity all U.A. students have to get scouted so it's not something that can be canceled. The Sports festival is the most watched event in the entire world, before it was the Olympics but with quirks appearing it's been reduced to nothing."
"The sports festival is important because all the top heroes are going to be watching and we could be scouted." Momo joins in.
"Yeah and after graduating you can be a sidekick at their agencies." Kaminari speaks out.
"But some people miss their chance and stay a sidekick forever. Actually that's probably going to be you, Kaminari. You're kind dumb." Jirou's words caused Kaminari to fall off his desk.
"That's why it's important, if you want to go pro, that you give it your all. 1 chance a year, 3 chances in a lifetime. No aspiring hero would ever miss this so you better not slack off. Homeroom is over, I'll see you all later." With those words of encouragement, Aizawa walks out.
The rest of the morning classes go on normally, that is until lunch time comes around. The class is talking amongst themselves, before heading towards the cafeteria, about the sports festival. Among the students, Orion and Midoriya quietly speak with each other while everyone is preoccupied.
"So Midoriya, you're gonna use that new technique in the sports festival?" Orion asks the green haired teen.
"I think so, with Toshinori-san's and your help, I know I can perfect it." Midoriya grins.
"Woah, woah, woah. Who said I'd help train you. I need to train too, how else am I going to beat you." Orion grins, showing his jagged teeth. Midoriya sweat drops from Orion's honesty. Ochaco and Iida approach the duo as Midoriya asks them if they're also excited for the festival.
"Of course, as the second son of the Iida family, I want to show what I can do." Iida admits, while also moving side to side.
"Woah there, careful with those moves." Orion sarcastically warns, causing Midoriya and Ochaco to giggle. Jirou sits beside Orion, surprising the American teen.
"Hey Jirou." Orion grins causing Jirou to slightly blush as she punches his shoulder.
"I told you last night, enough with the Jirou crap. Call me Kyoka." Kyouka reminds him, making Orion smile. After having dinner with her family, Jirou told him to call her Kyoka, so as not to confuse her with her parents.
"Sorry, what's up Kyoka?" Orion asks.
"Did you talk to your parents yet?"
"Yeah, mom called me earlier. She gave me a good scolding about the whole thing. Though she told me that they are gonna come and visit me soon." Orion admits, rubbing the back of his head.
"Well that's good." She gives Orion a sheepish smile. Orion smirks as he gets closer.
"What? Nervous to meet your mother-in-law?" Orion teases. Kyouka turns bright red and gives him a shove.
"What would I be nervous about? Plus, we're not even dating."
"How about this, if I win the sports festival then you've got to go on a date with me." Kyoka looks up and chuckles.
"In your dreams, tiger." Orion extends his hand towards her.
"So it's a bet?" Kyoka looks at him and shakes his hand.
Orion and Kyoka both laugh as they start heading out for lunch. Izuku follows them, along with Iida and Uraraka. As the group makes their way towards the cafeteria, they are stopped by a deep voice.
"YOUNG MIDORIYA AND YOUNG ORION, ARE HERE!" All Might exclaims.
"All Might!?" Izuku yelps.
"WOULD YOU BOTH HAVE LUNCH WITH ME!" All Might asks.
"So adorable!" Kyoka and Uraraka silently think. Both boys turn to their friends for approval, receiving nods from the three teens. Orion and Izuku follow All Might to his private office. Once inside, All Might turns back to his regular form and offers the boys tea.
"I wanted to inform you boys that my hero time has been reduced to a mere 1 hour and 30 minutes." Toshinori informs the teens. Both boys are shocked that the symbol of peace can only do hero work for such a short time.
"I-I'm sorry, Toshinori-san." Izuku apologizes, only to get a blood filled laugh from the pro-hero.
"No need to apologize, young Midoriya. My time would have shortened even more if young Orion didn't already warm up that Nomu before I got there." Orion chuckled in embarrassment.
"No, I brought you boys here to talk about the upcoming sports festival and what young Midoriya's plan is going to be."
"Oh you mean if he's going to use his new technique?" Orion asks, earning a nod from the pro-hero.
"I think that I've got the handle on it, so I think with it I can win this year." Izuku answers.
"Well then that's perfect. My time as the symbol of peace is almost at an end. Villains are noticing and are coming out of the shadows." All Might turns to Izuku. "This is why I chose you, to replace me as the new symbol of peace. Tell me, Izuku Midoriya, do you still feel the same way as you did before? Do you still want to be a hero who smiles, no matter the situation?" Izuku gives a look of determination and nods his head.
"Then in this sports festival you must show the whole world who you are. I want you to use this sports festival as your debut and show the world 'I am here'." Izuku stands along with Toshinori and nods his head.
"I won't let you down, Toshinori-san." Toshinori grins while Orion gives Izuku a thumbs up.
"I know you won't kid. Alright, I wasted too much of your lunch time. Now go on and get some fuel." All Might orders them. Both Orion and Izuku chuckle as the pro-hero politely kicks them out. The two return to their friends and continue their normal daily routine.
Finally, after all their classes are over, Orion is packing up his things as his friends approach. It may only have been a week since school started but Orion can't help but smile at the friends he's made. Maybe one in particular. Kyoka, Hagakure, Shoji and Tokoyami approach the American as he finishes packing.
"Hey Orion! Wanna come with us to grab a smoothie by the train station?" The bubbly invisible girl asks.
"Sure." He responds.
As the group make their way out of the classroom, Orion opens the door and finds a mob of people standing on the other side. Blocking their path. Orion being the second tallest in his class, 6ft1, towers over the other students. Most of the students take a step back, except for a select few.
"Do you all need something?" Orion asks the mob. The rest of class 1-A approach the exits and are shocked by the amount of students.
"Hey! Why are they here?" Mineta exclaims.
"They're here to scout the competition." Bakugou points out
"Competition?" Mineta asks.
"We fought actual villains and survived. They want to see what real heroes look like." Bakugou exclaims. Multiple students begin shouting as Bakugou just flips them off.
"Can you move?" Orion politely asks.
"Why are you asking them like some kind of loser, fur-ball?! Get out of my way, extras!" Just then a guy with purple hair and tired looking eyes steps up to class 1-A.
"So, this is the famous class 1-A? The ones who survived a villain attack? I heard you were all impressive but all I see are a bunch of entitled assholes. Is everyone as delusional in there?" The purple haired teen tiredly says.
"What the hell did you call me, bastard?" Bakugou growls.
"I wanted to be in the hero course. We all did, but like many of us we were forced to choose a different path. But now we have a shot to get into the hero course. If any of us win in the sports festival then the teachers can transfer us into the hero course but someone would be transferred out. I'm not here to scout you idiots out, I'm here to let you know if you don't try your best then I'll steal your sport from you. This is a declaration of war." Orion frowns at those words as the teen turns to him.
"Maybe I'll just take the foreigners spot." The purple haired teens smirks but his smirk fades as he sees Orion begin to grin, showing his jagged teeth.
"You can try, but I'm not going anywhere." The purple haired teen scoffs as he turns away from Orion and heads back to his class. Orion overhears some yelling to the right but ignores it as he and his friends make their way through the crowd.
"I'll let Bakugou handle this." Orion smirks to himself.

2 weeks later; Sunday, April 30th
With the sports Festival coming up, the students were given permission to train over the course of the two weeks before the festival begins. Class 1-A all begin their rigorous training, especially Orion. Thanks to his Aunt Nemuri, he can train privately without any distractions. Finally after two weeks of training, the sports festival is upon them.
The night before the sports festival is a small quiet night for Orion. His aunt Nemuri prepared him some of his favorite food as a good luck dinner for tomorrow. With two weeks of training non-stop, Orion's hair grew a few inches.
"So, you're gonna cut your hair or what? It's reaching your shoulder, you know that?" His aunt asks. Orion looks up with a large piece of steak in his mouth.
"Nah, I kinda like the locks." Orion replies, swallowing the meat.
"Okay, just saying that you looked better with shorter hair like you had before. So, you talked to your parents recently?" Nemuri asks, eating a spoonful of mashed potatoes.
"Not since the USJ. They told me they had a big mission so they couldn't call me when it started." Nemuri sees how much it's affecting him so she decides to change the subject.
"So, how are things going with that classmate of yours? Kyoka Jirou?" Nemuri teases. Orion begins to choke on his drink from her teasing.
"We're….Just friends." Orion coughs out. Nemuri raises an eyebrow, making Orion sweat a bit.
"Sure, whatever you say." Suddenly Orion's phone begins to vibrate in his pocket. Looking at the caller id, 'Kyoka', Orion gently smiles.
"Must be her." Nemuri teases, receiving a scowl from Orion as he answers.
"Hello?"
"Hey, are you busy or something?" She asks.
"Nope, I just finished dinner with Aunt Nemuri. Why?"
"I was just wondering if, you know, we could hangout tonight. You know, before I kick your ass tomorrow." Orion laughs at her joke.
"You kick my ass? I'd like to see you try. Where do you want to meet?"
"Meet me at the arcade that is near the train station by my house."
"Alright, see you then." Orion smiles as he pockets his phone. Nemuri gives a little cough, making Orion stiffen.
"Where do you think you're going?" She asks, with a glint in her eyes.
"I'm pretty full and tired, so I was going to head home." Orion stretches his arms as he gets up.
"Sure you are. Say hello to Jirou-chan for me!" Nemuri teases. Orion stumbles and turns to her, nodding his head.

Train Station, Shizuoka Prefecture
Arriving in front of the new arcade by the train station, Orion looks around before sitting down. Orion looks down at his outfit and nods. Wearing a plain white T-shirt with a red flannel to go with it, a pair of black jeans and a pair of tan boots. He also decided to put his hair into a bun with a few strands being loose. Looking around once more, he stops when he hears a voice behind him.
"Well, look who's early." The familiar voice teases. Orion turns around and can't help but stare at her. Standing in front of him is Kyoka, wearing a purple tank top with a black leather jacket over it. Along with a black skirt that reaches just above her knees and black high top boots and a choker to finish the outfit.
Orion continues to stare in awe, not noticing his cheek beginning to blush. Kyoka, taking the chance to tease him, steps closer to him and leans forward.
"So, how do I look?" Kyoka asks.
"I think you're beautiful." Orion unconsciously says. Orion watches as Kyoka's face turns bright red and her earphone jacks tangle themselves. Orion then realizes what he said, causing him to turn bright red as well.
Kyoka looks away in embarrassment as Orion looks at her ear jacks. Orion lets out a small laugh as he reaches out to Kyoka's jacks and begins to help untangle them. Kyuka looks up and stares at Orion's face. Orion turns to her and locks eyes with her. Gold meets black.
"W-we should probably head to the arcade before it's too late." With her ear jacks finally untangled, she quickly extends one and wraps it around Orion's arm. The two make their way to the arcade, staying as close as possible.
After a few hours of playing some of the arcade games, Orion decides to walk Kyoka back home. On the way towards the Jirou home, both Orion and Kyoka silently walk together. Stealing glances between each other as well. Kyoka looks towards Orion, her ear jack unconsciously extending itself and wrapping around Orion's arm. Kyoka squeezes his arm as they arrive just outside her apartment building.
"Do you want to come inside? I know my parents would love to see you." Kyoka asks Orion.
"Not tonight, Kyoka. I want to go home and get some rest for tomorrow. Maybe after the sports festival." Kyoka nods her head, not showing her disappointment to Orion. She turns to leave but Orion reaches out, stopping her in her tracks. Kyoka turns to him in surprise, seeing Orion try to speak but close his mouth.
"What's wrong?"
"You know, I was planning on telling you something but I realize this isn't the best timing to tell you. So, I'll tell you after I win the sports festival." Orion gives Kyoka a grin as he lets her go. Kyoka blushes as she smiles back.
"I can't wait to hear what you've got to say. Although, I'll be winning the sports festival this year." Kyoka teases as she walks away. Orion smiles before leaving himself.
