I wrote this in only a day! I'm kinda impressed with myself.
Enjoy this chapter.
The once mostly quiet Noceda household was now full of life. With the group from the Boiling Isles now present and were either making themselves at home, or helping set up decorations and tidy up the house.
"Put those streamers a little more to the left..." Amity directed one of the abomination she had conjured, and the golem did just that.
"No, a little more to the right... Make it even to the doorway!" Willow pointed out, Clover perched on her shoulder.
"Hm, yeah good point..." Amity nodded in agreement, motioning for her abomination to do what Willow suggested.
Lilith meanwhile was sitting on the couch, reading a couple books that detailed the history of Thanksgiving, and the reasons why it's celebrated. Hooty was extended out from the Porta-Hooty pack, and was currently wrapped around Lilith's neck like a large scarf. The witch didn't seem to mind this at all.
"Hm, rather interesting holiday..." Lilith murmured as she read. "All about giving thanks and- Edalyn, what are you doing?"
Lilith glanced over at Eda, who was feeling the nearby walls, trying to find something.
"Come on, I know there's gotta be a hidden stash of some good stuff somewhere in this house!" Eda reasoned, using her hook to look behind a painting on the wall.
Lilith rolled her eyes. "Edalyn, not everyone has stashes of alcohol in their homes-"
"THEY SHOULD!" Eda snapped back, "Plus, I doubt any parent has gone through raising a kid without taking a few sips of the stuff every now and again..."
"The kid or the parent, hoot?" Hooty randomly piped up with a question.
Raine was nearby, peacefully strumming their violin to a faint tune.
"That sounds very nice!" Vee complimented, as she helped hang a fall wreath above a bookcase.
"Why thank you." Raine smiled at the compliment, and they continued to play.
Eda walked into the hall to continue searching for a possible alcohol stash... Only to have to duck to avoid the Collector (donning his Human Realm outfit), who was flying around on a mini-star (which was small enough to fit through the halls of the house). The star-child was cheering as he zoomed through the halls on his star joyride.
"Whoa kiddo! Watch where you're going!" Eda exclaimed, albeit amused by the sight.
"Sorry Aunt Eda!" The Collector apologized as he zoomed off around a corner.
Eda chuckled, and shook her head in amusement before continuing to search for any hidden panels... Only for King to walk up to her in a t-shirt that looked like an over-sized dress on the small Titan. Most of it dragged behind him from how big it was.
"I'm having trouble finding a good Human Realm disguise, Eda." King flatly claimed.
"Have you tried looking for something a little smaller than a tent, kid?" Eda joked, which made King roll his eyes.
"Ha ha, you're hilarious..." King replied, unamused.
Gus and Hunter were in the dining room, trying to move the table, and get the chairs all set up around it.
"Okay, a little to the left!" Hunter called out, and began to move to Gus' right.
"Wait, you said left!" Gus pointed out.
"I meant my left, not yours!" Hunter corrected.
"So I go right?" Gus questioned.
"Right!" Hunter nodded.
"Wait, so your left?" Gus inquired.
"No, right!" Hunter exclaimed.
"So not left right?" Gus asked.
"...Sure." Hunter gave up on the conversation.
As all of this was happening, Luz was walking around the house, just watching it all happen.
She couldn't help but smile at the sight of all of them around the house. It made her feel warm and bubbly inside to see it... It was either that, or she accidentally drank milk earlier or something.
For the first time in a while, Thanksgiving looked like it was going to be a packed holiday, and she was (ironically) very thankful for that.
Luz was snapped out of her thoughts when she heard a faint "psst" sound from nearby, and turned to see her mother peering out from the kitchen.
"Mija, come here." Camila said under her breath, motioning for Luz to come into the room with her.
Luz was a little concerned by how her mother's voice sounded, almost stressed and worried in a way. She walked into the kitchen.
"What's wrong, mamá?" Luz asked, using a hushed tone.
Camila sighed heavily. "Your abuela is coming for Thanksgiving this year." She announced.
"She is?!" Luz's eyes widened in surprise, before pausing. "Wait, which one?""Your uh... Abuela Miranda. Manny's madre." Camila answered.
"Seriously?! But, I thought you and her didn't get along very well..." Luz questioned. "With her always judging you, telling you what you're doing wrong, and how you should be doing it-"
"Yes, yes! I know!" Camila huffed a bit at the reminder.
"Then why did you decide to invite her?" Luz inquired, as she petted Ghost, who was laying on the nearby kitchen counter.
Camila held back another sigh, "I felt bad for her. She's spent the last few Thanksgivings without family ever since..." she couldn't bring herself to finish her sentence.
Luz understood what her mother was going to finish the sentence with anyways, and sighed as well.
"So, I sent her a message a couple days ago asking if she wanted to come for this holiday so she wouldn't have to be alone... She just called me back a few minutes ago, telling me she was on her way up!" Camila explained.
"Well, what's the problem with that? It's been a while since I've seen abuela!" Luz smiled a bit, not understanding her mother's worry.
Camila said nothing, and instead pointed at the other room... Where all the witches, basilisk, young titan, star-child, and Hooty were all talking and doing various things.
Luz blinked and paled a bit, realizing the problem. "Oh right, she doesn't know about... All of this." She winced.
"Si... And I feel as if she wouldn't really be too supportive about all of this." Camila reasoned, "So, we have an issue."
"Why didn't you tell me this BEFORE I invited everyone?!" Luz nearly shouted, her voice cracking as she tried to keep it down.
"I forgot! It slipped my mind when we were talking about inviting them over!" Camila defended, "You know how much effort it takes to shampoo a carpet when you have a daughter that slithers around the house when not in their human form?!"
Camila never thought she would have to say something like that in her life, but alas, here she was.
"Well, maybe abuela will be fine with it?" Luz said hopefully.
There was suddenly the sound of a crash in the dining room. The two rushed over to see Gus and Hunter... The former sheepishly standing over the now destroyed table, with Hunter getting up from the now broken and loose wood pieces.
"...Hey Camila... What's up?" Gus waved, trying to seem casual.
"What happened to the mesa?!" Camila exclaimed, shocked by the sight.
Hunter clapped his hands sheepishly. "Well, we tried moving it a little so we'd have room for the chairs... But then we sorta tripped on one of the chairs-"
"Sorry, we?" Gus flatly pointed out.
"Okay fine, I tripped..." Hunter blushed a little, "And I fell onto the table on accident, and it broke."
"Are you okay?" Camila instantly shifted from being shocked by the state of the table, to concern for the grimwalker. "No splinters, right?"
She had no idea if it was even possible for Hunter to get splinters due to what he was.
"Yeah, I'm okay..." Hunter nodded, dusting himself off.
"The table isn't though." Gus frowned, looking at the now broken table.
Camila's eye twitched. She clearly was trying to keep her cool, but the now broken table alongside her remembering that Miranda was coming to stay, was beginning to make her lose it. Luz took notice of this, and put her hand on her mother's back as a way to try and calm her down.
Camila took a couple deep breathes, and Luz made a decision.
"Okay, we need to have a meeting... Like right now." Luz announced, walking off to go gather everyone else.
