AN: I've been unusually inspired today, I think this is the third chapter I've published. I wonder if I should just write longer chapters at the end of the day. Also I'm a sappy bitch, fuckin' deal with it. Side note: Any guesses as to who the mole is?
Chapter 11
Hermione was frustrated. Not because her friend had once again endangered his life, but that this time she couldn't really fault him.
"While reckless, his actions had been well thought out, and proportional to the situation. He had even leaned on you to help him and wasn't afraid to admit he was too weak to fend for himself. I'm proud of Harry, but also worried. And annoyed. And hungry. God I'm starving." Hermione said.
Seras giggled, and tracked down Walter who hurried over to see what the young witch wanted to eat.
"That's... that's a lot." Seras observed. Hermione shrugged
"I'm pregnant. Also wizards and witches eat more than muggles. That's why were were always worried about Harry. It would always take a few weeks at the beginning of each year for him to get back to normal... Oh shit." Hermione said, covering her mouth, not meaning to reveal one of her friend's secrets.
"Harry told me he had a really bad childhood." Seras said. Hermione looked despondent.
"I really shouldn't have said that." Hermione said. Seras waved her off.
"He'll tell me when he's ready. Until then all I can do is be there for him." Seras said. Hermione smiled at her fondly.
"So, when's the baby due?" Seras asked. Hermione smiled wider.
"Five more months. We waited as long as we could before telling everyone, and now that I'm showing we figured it was time." Hermione said. Seras smiled fondly.
"I can hear their heartbeats." Seras said. Hermione's eyes shot open.
"What did you say?" Hermione asked, unconsciously rubbing her belly.
"Uh I can hear their hearts beat." Seras said.
"You mean the baby's heart and my heart?" Hermione asked, her voice becoming urgent. Seras looked confused.
"I hear three heartbeats. Yours and your two babies' heartbeats." Seras said looking concerned.
"Twins?" Hermione asked, her eyes watering.
"You didn't know?" Seras asked. She shook her head.
"No! We haven't done an ultrasound since the mediwizards at St. Mungos said they were doing fine..." Hermione said.
"They sound very strong. The babies' heartbeats are almost in sync with one another. May I?" Seras asked, holding her hands out asking Hermione for permission. She nodded and Seras placed her hands over Hermione's belly, smiling s she felt a tiny movement. Hermione giggled feeling the kick.
"I'm so happy for you. You must be so excited." Seras said.
"Oh yes, especially since now I know there are two of them. Damn Ron's Weasley genes." Hermione said laughing. Seras looked pensive.
"I always hoped to have children when I grew up. That won't be happening now.." Seras said, her expression falling.
"Oh no that shouldn't be a problem at all. When I found out you were dating Harry, I read up on vampires. It's kind of what I do." Hermione said, smiling. Seras looked shocked.
"What do you mean?" Seras asked.
"Well two vampires can't conceive, something to do with not being able to create life from two undead gametes, but with a human you could easily conceive. The wizarding world has extensive records of hybrid human/vampire babies throughout the years." Hermione said. Seras smiled brilliantly
"Really?!" She asked.
"Of course. I'll see if I can find the book I read on it. Pregnancy goes a lot more quickly, and the child will mature considerably faster than a pure human, but depending on which genes are expressed the child should have a combination of vampire traits and human traits. For example, let's say you have a baby with a certain green-eyed wizard..." Hermione said, laughing at Seras' blush.
"The child will probably be magical. They would also likely either be immortal or live much longer than a normal human lifespan. They would also crave human blood, but probably also be able to survive on regular food, especially proteins like meat and eggs." Hermione continued. She backed up as Walter arrived with her food.
"Thank you Walter!" Hermione said
"Of course, young lady. Don't be shy if you need anything else, you are eating for two now." Walter said.
"Three apparently!" Hermione said smiling at Seras
"Oh! Congratulations!" Walter said, before tidying up his cart and making his exit.
Harry eventually made his way to the cafeteria and immediately made his way to Seras and Hermione, feeling very concerned when he first saw them laughing and then they immediately stopped talking and stared at him when they noticed him.
"Should I be worried?" Harry asked, cautiously easing himself into the chair next to Seras.
"We were just talking about Hogwarts." Hermione said
"Again... Should I be worried?" Harry asked, this time grinning. Hermione reached over her small mountain of breakfast and smacked his arm.
"Owww, why are you two always hitting me?" Harry whined, rubbing his shoulder.
"Suck it up." Hermione said, lifting her fork into her mouth. Harry grinned and gestured at Hermione's food.
"Well looks like Ron's genes are strong in them." Harry observed. Hermione looked confused.
"What do you mean them?" Hermione asked.
"Your twins." Harry said. Seras and Hermione both looked flabbergasted.
"Harry I didn't even know there were twins until Seras told me she could hear two heartbeats down there. How did you know it was twins?" Hermione asked. Harry looked pensive and scratched the back of his head.
"I don't really know..." Harry said. He looked over at Seras and pulled a flask out of his coat, handing it to her.
"I figured you might be hungry." Harry said.
"You better not have just filled this now." Seras said, eyeing him. He held up his hands in a placating gesture.
"Night before last. Blood replenisher was still working so I figured why waste it? Been under a stasis charm." Harry explained.
"Why were you taking blood replenishers?" Hermione asked. Seras blushed, but Harry smiled and took her hand.
"I'm Seras' main source of blood. Those potions are easy to make, and have no addictive qualities or side effects, it makes sense" Harry said. Hermione gave Seras a knowing glance, before smiling. Harry's walkie went off, summoning him over to Integra's office so he said his goodbyes and took his leave.
"You love him don't you." Hermione said. Seras blushed violently and shushed her, looking around to make sure Harry didn't hear.
"You can't tell him." Seras said, pleading with her eyes.
"On some level, I'm sure he already knows." Hermione countered.
"I just... I'm not ready for him to know. Besides, it's not like he feels the same" Seras said. Hermione rolled her eyes.
"I won't go into details, but I will tell you that Harry was starved for love and affection when I met him in our first year. I've known him for most of his life, For someone who has absorbed so much hate, his capacity for love is extraordinary." Hermione said.
"You needed me, Sir Integra?" Harry asked.
"Close the door behind you please, Harry." She said. He frowned and obeyed, before taking a seat in front of her desk.
"Is something wrong?" Harry asked. Integra sighed, and stubbed out her cigarillo and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Yesterday while you were in the Infirmary, I went looking for Walter, there was a chip in my saber, I was hoping he could repair and sharpen it. I could not find him." She said. Harry sat quietly.
"I tried calling him, both on his mobile and his office phone, and there was no answer. He was on duty, and he either ignored my calls or wasn't in a position to respond. For an hour I tried, and nothing" She continued.
"Was he out sick, or running an errand?" Harry asked.
"Not once during my whole life has he every been away without leave. Each time he has been unavailable has been accounted for, either when he was on vacation, or taking a personal or sick day. When he's out running errands, he always takes his mobile. Without fail. I tracked him down later and he acted as though everything was normal." Integra said. Harry frowned. Integra's lower lip trembled.
"Harry I'm beginning to think you were right." Integra said.
"Integra it could have been a million things. Perhaps he forgot? He is getting up there." Harry suggested. Integra shook her head.
"I've been getting an off feeling from him for a while now too, even before our conversation, but I didn't want to acknowledge it." Integra said, a sob escaping at the end. Harry was up and behind her desk, holding her almost instantly, and she allowed herself to be comforted.
"Don't give up hope. Pip and I are working through some of his friends on getting a mole inside Millennium. Evidently there's a woman in Millennium who has been plotting to thwart them from the beginning since the war." Harry said, reaching into his jacket and withdrawing a notebook.
"How do you fit so much in there?" Integra asked.
"Pockets for days." Harry said with a crooked grin.
"Page 23." Harry said. She flipped open the page and looked at the makeshift dossier, and her eyebrows rose as she read.
"Seriously?" Integra asked. Harry nodded.
"Note the first name. Not a very common German name, it's actually a common Slavic family name, specifically from the jewish regions of eastern Europe. My best guess is that she's Jewish and somehow escaped the holocaust, hid her background and at the end of the war when she discovered what the Major was planning she embedded herself and volunteered." Harry said.
"She's a vampire." Integra observed. Harry nodded.
"She's very committed to fucking over nazis." Harry said, smiling.
"Can we safely contact her?" Integra asked. Harry shrugged.
"She is frequently sent out to gather materials and intel. I had planned on discussing this with you anyway, Pip has a tentative meeting set up with her next week, and I was hoping to tag along. She'll be in Strasbourg, right on the German border in France." Harry explained.
"I know where Strasbourg is, Harry." Integra said, amused.
"Right. Well Pip and I will meet her and gauge whether she's on the level. I'm hoping that next week Pip and I will return and inform you that we were off base and that Walter's loyal and that you should give him a raise." Harry said. Integra squeezed him once more before letting him go.
"Thank you Harry." She said.
"Of course." Harry said, accepting the implied dismissal. He stepped out into the hallway and made his way down the elevator to the main floor. When the door opened, he got the sudden feeling that Seras needed him. He couldn't explain it but he was not one to disregard his intuition so he turned and walked towards the cafeteria.
He was sad to see that Hermione had left, however Seras was still sitting where she had been. She looked unsettled, on the verge of despair but carefully schooled her expression when she saw Harry.
"Hi! Everything ok with the boss?" She asked. Harry nodded and took her hand.
"Come with me please?" Harry asked. Seras nodded nervously and followed his lead, back to his quarters. She sat on his bed, as she usually did when he took her there, and he immediately popped a blood replenisher and washed his neck without asking her whether she was hungry.
"Harry, I already ate." She said. Harry nodded.
"Seras I have something I need you to know, and I don't think words will really suffice." Harry said. Seras looked confused.
"I want you to feed, and while you are doing it, concentrate on the blood, read it. Pick up my thoughts and feelings. Alucard has been teaching you how to do that right?" Harry asked. She nodded.
"Are you sure we can't just talk?" Seras asked, still looking very nervous. Harry smiled and shook his head.
"Please, I need you to do this." Harry said. Seras nodded made her way over to harry, and as always carefully bit down on his neck. The blood rushing into her mouth was as sweet as always, and the euphoria hit immediately, however Seras concentrated her thoughts and ignored it, trying to read Harry's feelings. Images started flashing before her eyes. Her sitting at the table talking to Hermione, Her laughing at something silly that Pip said. Her blushing when Alucard made an sexually explicit insinuation about her and Harry. Seras was confused. Harry was showing her memories of herself. Then the image of Harry, on the verge of tears, begging her not to hate him swam before her eyes, and as she watched herself lean in to kiss him she was overwhelmed by emotion. She felt vulnerability, fear, self-loathing, and the suddenly... it was unmistakable. She felt the same thing she felt when she looked him in the eyes for the first time in the morning, what she felt when he walked her to her quarters at night, when he helped her up into her coffin, despite the fact that Seras was multitudes stronger than Him.
It was love. Pure, unyielding, uncomplicated love. Harry was in love with her. She came to her senses and detached from Harry's neck, noticing that there were tears flowing from both of their eyes. Harry idly waved his wand sealing up the wound on his neck and gave her a watery smile.
"I couldn't help but feel you needed to know that just now. I love you Seras. I think I have for a while now." Harry said. She launched herself at him, kissing him furiously, only stopping when it became too much and she dissolved into happy sobbing.
