The day of the U.A entrance exam found hundreds of young adults entering the campus, their thoughts undoubtedly on the exam to come. But for one young man that was different.
Said young man was a tall yet lanky green eyed/haired youth in a snug green furred tracksuit, long hair up in a bushy ponytail, a small but sharp claw idly scratching his chin as he stared ahead of him...
There were also a pair of birds on him in the form of a pair of crows on his hair, but that was neither here nor there.
Instead his thoughts were somewhat revolving around the exam, but more on the circumstances he'd found himself in, with the exam being a secondary issue.
Looking up at the gates of U.A, N had found himself wondering how he'd gotten here. He knew what was coming, knew the next few months/year would be be a pain in the ass to deal with, and had even gone out of his way to not be involved.
That was rather easy to do considering his doners had abandoned him. That was basically a sign, yeah?
Being reborn in My Hero Academia sounded like a dream come true to him at the start, his last life having been rather lackluster and boring in his honest opinion. It had seemed even better when he figured out he was in the body of N/Natural from the 5th gen of Pokemon. The world seemed great, and he was honestly ecstatic about what he could do/see in his new life.
But then the reality had set in.
The first thing was that the world was more... real? Practical?
Practical worked.
Instead of Hero schools being High Schools, which didn't really make that much sense when one thought about it, they were colleges/universities, while high schools were Hero Prep schools. See, in this world schools like U.A and Ketsubetsu would require their potential students to go through atleast 3 years of Hero Prep before accepting an application to their Hero/Support Courses, which made sense...
Or they could be recommended, negating any need for those 3 years of Hero/Support prep... Which was kinda yikes, but not his problem.
Another different thing were the Quirk laws. In Canon they were restrictive as fuck, but here? Well if you had a Speed Quirk you could use the dedicated lane for them to go to wherever you needed, just don't break the speed limit and you wouldn't get arrested. Self Defense was also outlined better, so you couldn't be charged for Vigilantism for protecting yourself.
There were also Quirk gyms, where, ya know, people could train their Quirks. (Or spar and beat the shit out of each other using them... Legally.) That was something he enjoyed watching when he wasn't at the forest.
Watching people fight would always be an amusing pastime, no matter the world.
There were other differences too, but the gist was that the world around him was real, had laws that made sense, and made everything feel like a proper world instead of an anime setting. (Granted, it is still an anime setting, but one that makes sense.)
That aside, N had gained his Quirk, but that was where the issues started. His Quirk basically turned him into Beast Boy, but with issues he couldn't remember the green Titan ever dealing with.
For his Quirk, which they'd named Changeling, to work he would need to touch fur, blood, bone, saliva, or the animal itself in order to turn into it. He couldn't turn into bugs, certain amphibious animals with no brain like starfish, or mismatch anything to make himself some OP Apex predator or something. So far so good.
The main problem was that he'd gain the instincts of the animal he Shifted into, and unless he could overpower them then he'd be at their mercy until he changed back. Now he could train himself to overcome those instincts, but he had to do it individually with each form he had, and that was a process that took time and dedication.
Time and dedication his doners couldn't be bothered to deal with since they gave him up without much fanfare. One feral cat seemed to be too much for them, wimps.
The joke was on them since he ended up surviving being abandoned in the fucking woods and got them arrested by his new family a few years later.
Wrenching his thoughts away from his doners, N thought about said new family, getting him to smile a bit. It'd been after a nasty thunderstorm caused a landslide in the forest he had been abandoned it, which he hadn't left because living on the land was both fun and easy thanks to his Quirk, that Rescue Heroes were called in. The landslide had hit a somewhat hiking trail near the edge of his territory, so the Heroes focused in on it.
And him being a child with no access to the internet for 3 years, 3 years he'd used to perfect troublesome forms like the bear and crow, he'd gone to check it out. Watching Heroes in person was neat, but he'd eventually been noticed by Mandalay and Ragdoll. The former had noticed another active mind in her range, while the latter's Quirk had considered him a civilian.. Which, fair, he was a child, but at the time he hadn't wanted to be helped.
Being in the forest freed him from dealing with bullshit like school, or society, and he was happy with the Murder he'd ended up being adopted by. The fact his 'sisters' had come with him, a pair of crows with their own Quirks, helped him deal with his newly acquired family, and all that came with it.
But apparently a 7 year old was not allowed to stay in the forest because he didn't want to avoid humans and their shit.
Thankfully he was taken in by Ragdoll, because if anyone else took him in he'd book it back to the forest faster then someone could say Pokemon, and he'd actually enjoyed having the Hero as his Mother... Which fucking sucked because he remembered that she would end up being kidnapped and her Quirk taken by All For One if Canon was anything to believed...
And that wasn't something he could risk.
So he eventually bit the bullet, went to some high school and took Hero Courses, he was going to specialize in Rescue as a nod to his new family, then signed up for U.A.
The mock tests were easy, and he passed them without an issue, giving him a shot as a prospective applicant.
All of that led to now, standing at the entrance to U.A. Letting out a sigh, N contemplated making a break for it and forgetting all of this shit, but easily brushed the idea away. He had already decided to go through with this, so he was going to do it. (Life is about to get a whole lot more complicated.)
And it really was.
