Chapter One - Goodbyes
The mood in the Tardis had been full of celebration along with everyone on earth once the planet had been put back into its proper place. The Tardis was more crowded than it had been in the longest time. And it had been full of cheering, clapping, laughter and a lot of warm hugs. Rose Tyler was happier than she had been since before the battle of Canary Warf. Not only was she reunited with The Doctor, she was back with everyone in the Tardis. And they had won, they had succeeded once again and it was more spectacular than ever.
Soon though, when the celebrations were finished, everyone were now thinking of the present. Sarah-Jane had asked to be taken home straight away so the Doctor set the course for where she lived in Ealing with her son.
The older woman caught Rose's eye and stepped over to her. "I know we haven't had much time to talk, but I will say this again Rose. It is so good to see you. Though it was war brought us all here, I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Specially to see all these wonderful people."
Rose nodded. "I say the same, I don't regret any of it. After being trapped in that other universe for too long..." She found herself unable to finish the sentence.
Sarah-Jane gently held Rose's upper arms in a comforting squeeze. "I won't ask about that, but I hope that whatever comes next for you, it will make you happy."
"Thank you." Said Rose and leaned in to hug her.
"I don't know when we'll next see each other but I hope it won't be too long."
"Sure you don't want another trip with us? We could bring you home right back to this moment once it was finished."
Sarah-Jane leaned back to face Rose again. "That would be lovely, but it's not what I want. What I really want right now is to get back home to my son Luke. He's only fourteen years old and besides I found a way to have adventures on earth too. What's more, in the midst of our adventures I found more wonderful new friends along the way. We're a team and I need to get back to them and K-9 and Mr. Smith."
"I understand." Said Rose.
"Sarah?" The Doctor called. "We've arrived."
"Ok, thanks." She said in response to him, then she turned back to Rose. "You take care Rose and I hope our paths will cross again."
"Yeah, me too. Good luck." She leaned in for one more hug, then Sarah-Jane walked off to give a goodbye to the others before heading outside with the Doctor.
"Rose?"
Rose turned around to see Jack standing behind her. She smiled and he did too. He hardly seemed to have changed. He was still just as handsome and dashing as he was when they'd parted on Satellite Five. "I Just realized Rose that we never had a proper reunion earlier.
Smiling wider she went straight in and hugged him and he held her tight. "I missed you, Jack."
"And I missed you too."
When they let go to face each other, Rose asked the same thing she had asked Sarah-Jane. "Will you come with us Jack?"
His smile faltered a bit then he said. "Believe me Rose, it would be wonderful to come, catch up on everything that happened and what we left behind. But I need to return to my team in Cardiff. They need me and I think we're going to have a lot to clear up. What's more, I promised them I would come back to them?"
Rose nodded but her smile had dropped a bit. "I understand. I hope we'll see you again and maybe then we can catch up."
"I would like to very much, Rose. And don't get me wrong, I would love to have another adventure one day, but now is not the best time for me."
Rose smiled and gave him one more hug. "I will look forward to that Jack." He held her tight in his strong arms.
When they were facing each other again Jack held her face in his hands. Rose instantly felt the feeling of Déjà vu back when they'd parted on Satellite five. "Just as I said last time, Rose. You are worth fighting for"
Rose could feel a grin coming as she remembered what came next after Jack had originally said those words to her. Deciding to surprise him, she leaned in and kissed him on his full lips. Sure, enough he was taken by surprise, then kissed her back. Smiling, she squeezed his hands. "You take care then, see you again soon, I hope."
He nodded, "You too. Goodbye Rose"
"Goodbye Jack"
He gave her one last kiss on the cheek then strode off and Rose noticed that Martha was nearby watching her. "I'm getting off with Jack, Rose. So, I just thought I'd say goodbye."
Rose was puzzled "You're not staying either?"
Martha shook her head. "No, I'm afraid not. You see, I did enjoy it at the time here and the travels. But there came a time when an enemy took over earth and there was a whole year where we all had to endure so much pain, suffering and loss from his villainy. When it was all over and time was fixed, all I wanted was to be there for my family. For they had been enslaved by the enemy and during that whole year and were tortured. They were among the few of us who still remember all that had happened."
Rose's face had fallen as Martha told her story. "It doesn't mean I blame the Doctor for it. He was powerless at the time to stop the enemy. But even when it was over, I knew that he didn't love me in the way I did for him. Nonetheless I still want to remain his friend. I just want to move on and make my own path"
"I know what you mean Martha. But in my case, before I met The Doctor, I had nothing but a normal life which became dull when everyday was like the day before. After the Doctor found me it all changed in a more incredible way than I could have imagined. He showed me a better way of living your life. A different adventure and different experiences and different people every day. I know that I can't return to that dull life I used to have, because when I did, I missed this life and I missed The Doctor more than anything."
"I understand," said Martha. "During my early days with The Doctor, he often spoke about you and I could see how much you meant to him.
Rose felt her heart warm as she heard this. It was wonderful to know that he hadn't Just forgotten her after the battle of Canary Warth had separated them. He had missed her just as much as she missed him. He'd changed a lot since that meeting when Sarah-Jane had joined them at that school. The time when the doctor had never even mentioned any other of his former companions to her. Now he had told Martha and even Donna it seemed.
Rose was sad that Martha was leaving so soon as well. It would have been nice to get to know her better. But it was her choice and Rose respected that. Something else came up that Rose felt she had to mention "Martha, when I first saw you over the Subwave Network I will admit I was jealous at the fact that it showed you and not me."
"So, it did show to you as well. I'd wondered that when you'd told the Doctor that it was Harriet Jones who'd help bring him to us.".
"Yes, it did show to me and I saw all of you, but I guess the main reason you didn't see me was because the laptop I saw it from had no Webcam."
Martha folded her arms. "That makes sense, but if that was the case, why didn't Harriet mention that you were included in the connection? If it had contacted you, and she was in control then she must have known."
Rose turned her gaze away and leaned against the pillar beside her. "We can't ask her why now. I guess we'll never know."
The two ladies stood in a respectful silence then Rose said "Harriet stood by our side twice. First when we'd fought a family of aliens in Downing Street, then we crossed paths again on Christmas Day when that alien ship was over London. But we didn't part with a proper goodbye both times. First time she hurried off to speak to the news people after the disaster ended. The last time on that Christmas it wasn't on happy terms".
"What happened?" Martha asked.
"She did something which angered the Doctor. She'd committed murder to all the aliens that invaded at Christmas even though they had agreed to leave. The Doctor didn't know it would happen. You can imagine. how that made him feel."
Martha nodded "Indeed I can."
There was another short pause then the engines stopped and Martha said "Looks like we've arrived. Guess this is goodbye for now."
Rose gave her a small smile "Yeah, goodbye Martha Jones."
The two ladies exchanged a smile before sharing a hug. Rose watched as she walked out the door with Jack and The Doctor.
Donna walked past her as she talked on her phone. Probably letting her family know she was alright. Sylvia and Wilfred would be happy to know that she was still alive.
Then she noticed that Mickey was giving her mum a hug and as though one of them was saying goodbye to the other. She walked over to them. "What's going on?" she asked curiously. Mickey looked up at her then Jackie stepped back.
"I'm going with them Rose." He gestured to the door. "There's nothing for me back there now. You know, don't you?"
Rose didn't need to ask why, because she did know what he meant. She instantly recalled that sad time recently when his grandmother Rita-Anne Smith had passed away in Pete's mansion. She had come to live with them not long after the Battle of Canary Warf. Pete had had a room made up specially for her and It was so much more comfortable than where she had been living before in the city. Having his grandmother living there with them had made Mickey very happy. And had helped her a lot since she was blind and needed extra assistance. Her sharp temper had softened over time and she had grown to like them all including her and Jackie. However, they knew it wouldn't last forever.
When that sad time came it hadn't been a sad suffering passing for her in her last days. Rita-Anne had just died peacefully in her sleep. It was still heartbreaking though. His grandmother had been one of the main reasons why Mickey had stayed in the parallel universe. Along with getting rid of the Cybermen factories, but that was all over now as well.
She and Mickey had agreed that there was no possible future for the two of them together anymore. They were just friends now, but he now wanted to move on just like Martha did. It was sad, but Rose knew this wasn't farewell, since he was going to return to their earth. They could cross paths again one day just like with their other friends.
Looking him in the eye she smiled. "I hope you find what you're looking for."
"You too." A glint of a smile was playing at the corner of his mouth.
She stepped in and the two shared a brief hug. Stepping back, he said "Goodbye Rose, goodbye Jackie."
Then he was walking to the Tardis door and through it to make his own path.
Author's Notes
I didn't like the way Series 4 of Doctor Who ended, especially for Rose. Because she had been separated from The Doctor in the most heartbreaking way and was trapped in another universe. Then when she finally made it back to her universe and was reunited with him the Doctor, he had the perfect opportunity to have her back travelling with him. Instead he literally dumped her back in the Parallel World where she never wanted to be in the first place. Then he and left her without even saying goodbye or giving her the choice whether she wanted to come back traveling with them. Due to this I kind of lost my liking for the 10th Doctor. So I have started writing a better ending for the series.
Anyway please stay tuned, there will be some more chapters to come. I don't know how many there will be yet, but let me know in the reviews what you think so far and if you enjoyed it. And don't forget to Favorite and Follow the story.
Kind Regards to you all
