Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.

Let's get to it.

Chapter 12- Cataclysm

(May 21, 2049)

On the world of Starkiller Base, the First Order has assembled at the word of General Hux. The faction's troops and officers have assembled in formation in the faction's assembly area above the weapon itself. All gathered to listen to General Hux' speech and witness the weapon they have built finally be fired.

Standing on a platform overlooking the assembled troops, General Hux begins his impassioned speech, "Today…is the end of the Republic! The end of a regime that acquiesces to disorder. At this very moment, in a system far from here the New Republic lies to the galaxy! While secretly supporting the treachery of the loathsome Resistance and the treacherous Terran Alliance! This fierce machine which you have built, upon which we stand, will bring an end to the Senate! To their cherished fleet! All remaining systems will bow to the First Order! And will remember this…as the last day of the Republic!"

Before him, all of the troopers and officers let out a single cheer as they thrust their fists into the air to show their support for Hux and the First Order.

In the control center, the controllers manning the various systems controlling the weapon go through their final checks to confirm everything is ready. The various controllers finish calling in, alerting the head controller that everything is ready. Finally, all controllers have called in.

The head controller calls down to General Hux over his earpiece to inform him that the weapon is ready. Hux does not hesitate. Calling out over his microphone to not only the controllers but also all the First Order personnel, "FIRE!" At his call, all of the First Order personnel assembled before him do an about face to witness what is about to happen.

Deep within the planet, within the barrel of the weapon, the energy gathered from the star that was once the star of the Ilum system mixes with the dark energy also harvested in months prior, and the power begins to build up as the red glow in the barrel of the weapon intensifies. Then, as the build up reaches critical levels, a controller flips a switch, and with a massive thudding boom, the Starkiller Base weapon fires. A massive beam of red energy surges up from the barrel of the weapon, the shockwave of the beam firing destroying any vegetation within a close vicinity of the weapon.

All of the First Order personnel watch as the beam surges up into the sky and out of the atmosphere. Among them is Hux, who watches the beam with a sense of dark justice, knowing that his time is at hand to finally take the power and rule he deserves.

Through the depths of space, the beam fired by Starkiller Base streaks towards its target. In only a short matter of time, the beam finally nears its target: the Hosnian system, home of the New Republic.

As the beam reaches the Hosnian System, the beam begins to split apart. The outermost planet in the system is destroyed by one of the beams as the others near their targets.

On Hosnian Prime, the skies are quickly turning red. Citizens across the planet can see the skies being turned red. Many citizens and members of the Senate begin to scream in fear, not knowing exactly what is happening but fearing the worst.

Outside the Senate building, multiple Senators, the Supreme Chancellor, and even a Resistance officer are all watching this happen. However, among them is a Terran intelligence officer from France, secretly deployed to Hosnian Prime to give updated information on the New Republic's moves and leanings that the ambassador can't give.

As he sees the light growing brighter and brighter, the agent knows he's doomed. But also knows he has a few moments left. The agent quickly pulls out a small communication device and quickly switches on. This device is one used by intelligence agents to communicate quickly and without fear of their transmission being detected. Instead of being a call of some kind, this device transmits a written message over a network that can be viewed by anyone who has access to the network.

As the glow grows brighter and brighter, the agent types furiously, trying to finish the message as quickly as he can. In a matter of moments, he has typed out the simply message: "First Order attacking Hosnian Prime by unknown superweapon. Planetary destruction imminent. No hope of survival." He then presses the button and transmits the message as he looks up, almost blinded by the light. It just manages to broadcast in time before the beam slams into Hosnian Prime. A shockwave levels the cityscape over the planet as the crust breaks apart. The fleet in orbit is instantly obliterated as chunks of the planet are expelled into space, the core of the planet exposed and crumbling as the rest of the system is destroyed in a similar manner.

Across the galaxy, the destruction of the Hosnian System causes a massive sub-hyperspace ripple, causing the destruction of the system to be visible in real time across the galaxy. All across the galaxy, individuals look up into the sky to see the red fireballs showing the distant destruction of the Hosnian system.

On the planet of Naboo, just outside the doors to the Terran Andromeda Fleet Headquarters, Fleet Admiral Jacobsen, the commander in chief of the Andromeda Fleet, is talking with some of his officers when suddenly one of them looks up and says, "Um, what's that?"

Everyone, including the admiral, look up into the bright blue Naboo sky, and can see the image of the fireballs in the sky. None of them are quite sure what has caused this, but none of them can shake the terrible feeling that now sweeps over them.

"What the hell is that?" one of the officers says.

"No idea," another one says.

Suddenly, one of the officers, who works in Starfleet Intelligence, feels a buzzing in his pocket. He pulls out a similar communication to the one that the French officer just used. Seeing a priority message has flashed out across the network, he presses the button to open the message. Then, his blood chills as he reads it. The officer immediately looks at Admiral Jacobsen and says, "Admiral, a message just flashed across the network from an agent we have on the Hosnian system. It reads 'First Order attacking Hosnian Prime by unknown superweapon. Planetary destruction imminent. No hope of survival.' That's all."

Admiral Jacobsen's face firms as he realizes what has happened. "It must have been some distant weapon, or we would've heard from our ship deployed there that a First Order ship or battlestation had entered the system," he mutters.

"How could we see it happen from here though?" one of the other officers mutters.

The intelligence officer then speaks up and says, "Admiral, we just received another message from on our officers on D'Qar. They report that the Resistance had located the droid BB-8 on Takodana and are sending a force to retrieve the droid. Message also says that it's suspected that the First Order may be on the trail of the droid."

Admiral Jacobsen reacts quickly. "Send order out to the entire fleet. Defense Condition Black. All fleet vessels to action stations and begin full defensive measures. For all intents and purposes, we are now in a shooting war."

And, I'll end there.

So, I originally planned to write out the fight between the First Order and Resistance on Takodana, but decided against it when I realized there would be little difference between my version and what we saw in the movie except for the inclusion of SF-181s in the Resistance strike team. So, the next chapter will take us to D'Qar right after the fight on Takodana.

That next chapter will be up soon. Until it is, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
