Episode 271: The Verdanturf Town Pokémon Contest
A little while after saving Emily's Psyduck and teaching her about the partnership between Trainers and Pokémon, Sora, Kairi, Lisia, Rei, Pikachu, and Angel have arrived to Verdanturf Town.
"Verdanturf Town," Sora said.
"We still got time until the Contest, so I'm going to need to practice," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"It sure does. And if you like, Kairi, I can help you pracitce," Rei said.
"I'd appreciate it, Master," Kairi said.
"Vee," Angel said.
"We can get started as soon as we reach the local Pokémon Center, and have our Pokemon checked in," Rei said.
"Yes, Master," Sora and Kairi said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee, vee," Angel said.
Just when they were about to head off, they're greeted by a familiar face.
"Sora, Kairi, is that you?" A voice asked. They turned to see that the voice belonged to Wally. Sora and Kairi beamed when they saw him.
"Wally, it's been a while," Sora said.
"It has," Wally agreed. "I'm happy to see you two again. But where are May, Brendan, and your other friends?"
"They're pretty much all over the place, but we'll meet up with them again in Rustboro City," Sora said.
"Is this a friend of yours?" Rei asked.
"Yeah, he is, Master," Kairi said.
"My name's Wally. Nice to meet you," Wally said.
"I feel the same way, Wally. My name's Rei Sakura," Rei said.
"Hi, Wally. I'm Lisia," Lisia introduced herself.
"Nice to meet you, too," Wally said.
"Are you here for the Contest taking place, by any chance?" Wally asked.
"Yeah, we are. I'm going to be competing in it," Kairi said.
"We weren't expecting to bump into you. I forgot you have family living here," Wally said.
"It's okay, Sora. I'm just happy to see you," Wally said. He chuckled. "Do you need to get to the local Pokémon Center?"
"Actually, we were on our way there when we saw you," Rei said.
"Good. Maybe we can catch up while we get there," Wally said.
"Sure thing," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said.
As the group headed for the Pokémon Center, they shared with Wally about their experiences during their arrival in the Hoenn region. They told Wally about the places they've been and the Pokémon they have seen, and about Sora competing in the Battle Frontier as well as the Hoenn Pokémon League, and about Kairi taking part in Contests along with May, and how they met Lisia, and about Team Magma and Team Aqua. Wally was happy to hear May has found her own path since choosing her Torchic. Sora explained to Wally that Rei was his father's apprentice, and she has Sora, Kairi, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Riku, and Naminé as her apprentices as well. He was surprised to hear about hearing that May and Brendan each has a Keyblade of their own. They also told him about Vanitas, Zell, and meeting other members of Organization XIII.
"Sounds like excitement follows you everywhere you go," Wally said.
"There's never a dull moment, that we can tell you, Wally," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
They arrived to the Pokémon Center to rest.
"So how's your Ralts doing, Wally?" Kairi asked. Wally smiled.
"My Ralts is doing good actually," Wally said, taking out a Pokéball and opened it. His Ralts came out from inside. Pikachu and Angel greeted the Feeling Pokémon.
"I don't doubt you've been taking good care of him," Kairi said.
"Thank you, Kairi. That's very nice of you," Wally said.
"Your Ralts looks strong enough for a battle," Sora said.
"Yeah, I have been practicing with Ralts since coming here. I figured it's better to keep the Pokémon in tip-top shape. I was even working with Ralts's psychic powers, and it's been improving nicely," Wally said.
"I don't doubt it," Rei said. She looked right at Ralts. "Your Ralts looks like he'll evolve into a strong Gallade if you wanted him to."
"You think so?" Wally asked.
"I know so, Wally," Rei said.
"Thank you," Wally said.
Just when Kairi and Rei were about to practice, a boy came running.
"Trouble at the park! White monsters are attacking! Somebody, please help!" The boy yelled.
"Nobodies!" Rei said.
"Sounds like we got trouble!" Sora said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Let's go!" Rei said.
"I'll stay here! You're better at handling them than I am," Lisia said.
"Okay," Kairi said.
"And be careful," Lisia added as she watched her friends head for the park.
Speaking of which, Drew had his Roselia and Butterfree out as he was being beaten by a bunch of Dusks.
"Roselia!" Drew exclaimed as he ran up to the Thorn Pokémon. The Dusks were starting to surround him, so Drew grits his teeth. "Get away from us right now!"
Sora, Kairi, Rei, Pikachu, and Angel arrived to the park and spotted the Dusks.
"There they are!" Kairi said. Sora, Kairi, Rei, Pikachu, and Angel rushed towards the Dusks. Angel fired Swift at the Dusks, taking some of them out. Drew saw Sora, Kairi, and Rei coming.
"Kairi?" Drew asked. Sora, Kairi, and Rei summoned their Keyblades and held them.
"We can handle them!" Kairi said. Drew was shocked to see giant keys in their hands and held them like swords. They engaged the attacking Nobodies. The next batch of Nobodies consisted of Dusks, Creepers, Archers, Vikings, and Beserkers. The Vikings swung their axes as the Archers fired their arrows. Kairi casts her reflect spell as Rei used her Star Cluster to deflect the arrows. The Vikings swung their axes at Sora, but he uses his Kingdom Key to block the axes and he struck down a couple of them as Pikachu gave some of the Dusks and Creepers a shock, before taking them out. The Berserkers proved to be more difficult since they spin around or jabs their weapons on the ground. The Keyblade wielders kept fighting off the Nobodies until they were all defeated.
"Impressive," a voice spoke. They turned to see it was Saïx, but his hood was up. "You've improved since the beginning."
"Okay, the others we met, but I don't think we ever met you before," Sora said.
"Face-to-face, no, but in a way, we have, Sora," Saïx said. Sora wasn't buying it. "By the way. Have you seen Axel by any chance? He's here in the Hoenn region," Saïx said.
"What do I look like, your messenger? It's not my job to keep tabs on one of your own," Sora said.
"I don't doubt it isn't. But... Don't let your guard down. He'll stop at nothing to turn you into a Heartless," Saïx said.
"Gee, thanks for the warning, mister, but I'm sure we can take care of ourselves just fine," Sora said.
"Glad to hear it. Axel aside. It would break our hearts to hear something were to happen to you," Saïx said.
"Hearts? You don't have hearts! You don't even feel any emotions!" Kairi asked. Saïx pulled his hood back.
"True, we don't have hearts, nor do we have emotions, but we remember what it was like. That's what makes us special," Saïx said.
"And what is that supposed to mean?" Rei asked.
"We know very well how to injure a heart. Sora, Kairi, you keep fighting those Heartless, and be sure to watch your backs, too, otherwise you'll end up like those other two," Saïx said.
"What?" Sora asked.
"Who are you talking about?" Kairi asked. Saïx didn't answer, but he just grinned.
"Look, whoever you are, you can play whatever trick you want, just know that you will never succeed in breaking us apart!" Rei said.
"First of all, the name's Saïx. And second, I have no doubt your bonds are strong. I said what I needed to say. Until we meet again," Saïx said, leaving through a corridor of darkness.
"Wait!" Sora called out.
"Let him go, Sora. Don't let him play with your head. I think he was trying to fill your mind with doubt, and it will only work if you let him," Rei said. Sora nodded, letting her know he understands.
"She's right, Sora. Xigbar tried that before and he failed," Kairi said.
"Is it a regular thing with you?" Drew asked, walking up to the Keyblade wielders.
"Drew, are Roselia Butterfree alright?" Kairi asked with concern.
"They will be when get them to the Pokémon Center," Drew said. "So what was that all about? And what were you talking about?"
"It's a pretty long story, Drew," Sora said.
Sora, Kairi, Rei, Drew, Pikachu, and Angel made it back to the Pokémon Center and had Roselia and Butterfree checked in.
"Okay, Drew, where should we start?" Sora asked.
"Well, you can start by those keys you three were carrying," Drew said.
"You mean the Keyblades. We use them to fight off creatures called the Heartless and the Nobodies," Rei explained.
"The Nobodies are the white monsters that attacked you," Kairi said.
"I thought the whole monster thing was a load of bull, but after seeing them, I guess I was wrong. But he mentioned something about turning you into a Heartless, right?" Drew asked.
"He did say that, yeah," Sora said.
"How does that work?" Drew asked.
"There's darkness in every heart, Drew. Even yours," Rei said. Drew looked at her.
"There's darkness in my heart?" Drew asked, shocked.
"It's true, Drew. And you can turn into a Heartless if you let that darkness grow. It can grow if you give in with your darkest emotions, just like anger, hatred, jealousy, and greed. The darkness will grow stronger the more times you feel it until you turn into a Heartless," Kairi explained.
"And when you do, then you'd lose all the memories you had as a human and you hunt down hearts like a wild animal," Sora added. "But there's more."
"What?" Drew asked.
"Well, if someone with a strong heart is turned into a Heartless, a Nobody is created," Sora said.
"Nobodies are smarter than Heartless, because they can actually think and plan their attacks," Kairi said.
"And what about that guy in black? What's his story?" Drew asked.
"That Saïx guy we only just met is one of those Nobodies. He's one of the Nobodies who still appear human, but he isn't. He's with a group of Nobodies called Organization XIII and they have control over all the Nobodies," Sora said.
"You mean, he sent those things to attack?" Drew asked.
"Most likely," Rei said. "Organization XIII has been causing trouble for us, so we had to deal with them from time to time."
"We already met a handful of their members, and each one of them has a different element," Sora said.
"The thing I don't get is how did you end up in that mix, Drew?" Kairi asked.
"I was practicing with my Roselia and Butterfree when those Nobodies as you called them just appeared and attacked. I thought I could take care of them, but they were too slippery and they hurt Roselia and Butterfree before I knew what happened. I thought we were done for until you showed up," Drew said.
"Lucky for you we did," Sora said.
"Were you practicing in the Contest, Drew?" Rei asked.
"I was planning to, but I don't think I'm up for it; not after what happened. I doubt Roselia and Butterfree would be in shape for it anyway, and I don't wanna push them," Drew said.
"Sorry to hear that, Drew," Kairi said.
"Don't be. I'm just grateful that you saved my life and my Pokémon's. I mean it," Drew said. "Speaking of which, I need to check on them." He took off to check on his Pokémon.
Over to the World That Never Was, Saïx has returned and started to make his report to Xemnas.
"I have delivered the message as you requested," Saïx said.
"Good. With more Heartless ready, Sora will be overwhelmed and our plans shall carry on without interference," Xemnas said. "How are the preparations?"
"They shall be ready in a matter of days," Saïx said.
"Good. And what of Axel?" Xemnas asked.
"The search is still in progress. But I have no doubt he will show himself to aide Sora, Kairi, and the other Keyblade wielders, and when he does, I will see to it that he is brought back here for judgement," Saïx said.
"See that you do, Saïx. We cannot allow a single loose end to remain on the loose," Xemnas said.
Back in Verdanturf Town, Sora, Kairi, Lisia, Rei, Pikachu, and Angel went back to what they were doing before Saïx came along. Kairi has let out her Milotic to begin training. While Kairi was practicing with her Milotic, Sora got down to his training against Norman. Sora knew Norman wasn't going to be an easy opponent to deal with, so he had to train hard for it. Sora practiced with his Fighting-types by having Combusken practice his Fire Punch against Hariyama's large hands.
"Keep it up!" Sora said. Just when Combusken was about to land another Fire Punch, a fireball came crashing down. It crashed down, alerting Sora and his Pokemon. "What in the world?" It turns out to be a Solrock. The Metoerite Pokemon rises up. "A Solrock?" The Solrock attacked by firing a spiraling flame right at Sora. He ducked his head. "Whoa! Okay, challenge accepted! Pikachu! Use Iron Tail!" Pikachu rushed at Solrock with an Iron Tail, but Solrock dodged and unleashed a Rock Throw at the Mouse Pokemon. "Dodge and use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu avoids Solrock's Rock Throw and fired Thunderbolt right at Solrock, but it blocked Pikachu's Thunderbolt with its psychic powers and sent it right back at Pikachu, dealing some damage on him. Solrock then started to build up energy. "Solrock's about to use Solar Beam! Use Iron Tail!" Pikachu started to rush at Solrock, but the Meteorite Pokemon fired Solar Beam, hitting the Mouse Pokemon, knocking him out. "You okay, Pikachu?"
"Pi," Pikachu weakly said.
"Get some rest. You battled enoough," Sora said. He took out a Pokeball and he thought of who to use. He thought of using Treecko, but Sora saw Solrock uses Fire Spin, so he narrowed it down to Water-types. He thought of Lotad since he's a Water and Grass-type, so he went with it. He took out Lotad's Pokeball and threw it. "You're up, Lotad!" Lotad came out, ready to battle. "Lotad! Use Razor Leaf!" Lotad fired Razor Leaf right at Solrock, but it dodged. It then sent out another Rock Throw. "Try to dodge it!" Lotad managed to dodge Solrock's Rock Throw. "Use Water Gun!" Lotad fired a weak Water Gun. Solrock prepares to use a Solar Beam by building up solar energy. "Try again, Lotad. I know you can do it! You just have to try!" Lotad then unleashed a bigger Water Gun, hitting Solrock, cancelling out Solrock's Solar Beam. Sora took out a Pokeball and threw it. Solrock flowed inside and the Pokeball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokeball to confirm the catch. Spra's Pokemon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Solrock with him. He chose to send Solrock over to Professor Oak's lab. "Great job, Lotad."
"Lotad," Lotad said as he suddenly started to evolve, much to Sora's surprise. "What the? Lotad, you're evolving." Lotad has now become a bipedal Pokémon that is mostly green with some light blue markings. His face, ears, arms, and back are light-blue. He has stubby, round ears, large eyes with small pupils, and a red bill-like mouth. There is a large lilypad on his head, which has a notch in it and resembles a sombrero. He has long arms with four red claws and a thumb on each hand and feet with three red claws and a toe. "Better look you up." He took out his Rotom Phone and scanned his newly evolved Pokémon.

Lombre's entire body is covered in a thin, slimy film that creates an unpleasant sensation when touched. Lombre is sometimes mistaken for a human child.
"Lombre," The newly evolved Lombre said.
"I knew you had it in you, Lombre. If Natalie and her sisters were here, they'd be proud of you evolving," Sora said.
"Lombre," Lombre said.
"Pika, Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Well, we should take a small break, and have you checked since Solrock gave you a bad beating, Pikachu," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikchu said.
A few days later, it was about time for the Pokemon Contest as Ethan, Kris, Lyra, and Marill have arrived to Verdanturf Town just in time.
"Hey, Sora!" Ethan called out.
"Kairi!" Kris said.
"Lisia!" Lyra said.
"Marill!" Marill said.
"Guys, it's been a while," Sora said.
"It has," Ethan said.
"Have you been approving on your training?" Rei asked her apprentices.
"Yeah, we have, Master," Kris said.
"We can show you if you want to," Lyra said.
"Of course. But that can come later. For now, we have a Contest to attend," Rei said.
"Yeah, that's why we're here," Ethan said.
"And I'm lucky to have such supportive friends," Kairi said.
"Forget about us?" Riku asked, showing up along with Naminé, Eevee, and Azurill. "If you did then we'll need to talk."
"Wasn't expecting to see you here, Riku," Sora said.
"How's it going, Naminé?" Lisia asked.
"We're doing good. I managed to catch a few Pokémon for myself," Naminé said.
"And so did I," Riku said. "But there's no time for it though."
"You're right, Riku. Kairi, we wish you loads of luck," Rei said.
"Thank you, Master. I'll do my best," Kairi said.
With that said, Sora, Riku, Naminé, Ethan, Kris Lyra, Wally, Lisia, Rei, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill sat together as the Verdanturf Town Pokémon Contest has begun. Vivian has arrived to begin the Contest.
"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, fans and contestants to the Verdanturf Town Pokémon Contest! I'm your host Vivian Meridian, and you can just feel the excitement in here! Now, before we get started, please allow me to introduce our panel of judges! Our head judge, Mr. Contesta, Suziko, the director of the Pokémon Fan club, and Athena Minerva! Let's meet our first contestant! Meet Coordinator number 1, Wolfgang! " Vivian announced. Wolfgang is a young man wearing a 50's style outfit. He wore a white shirt under a black leather jacket and blue jeans. He wore blue suede shoes and has Elvis Presley's hairstyle. He took out an Ultra Ball and threw it.
"Come on out, Mightyena!" Wolfgang shouted in an Elvis-like voice. His Mightyena came out. This Mightyena is yellow has dark brown upper fur. It makes entrance as stars swirls around the Shiny Bite Pokémon.
"Oh my! A Shiny Mightyena, and making its grand entrance!" Vivian announced.
"Mightyena! Make your biggest Shadow Ball!" Wolfgang ordered. Mightyena forms a huge Shadow Ball right from its mouth and fired it straight up in the air. "Use your Giga Impact!" Mightyena jumped forward and right into the Shadow Ball, making it explode, creating sparkles that rain down on the stage. Everyone were awestruck by what they saw.
"Unbelievable! Mightyena has created a giant Shadow Ball and made a wonderful pop with a Giga Impact! An impressive combination of two powerful moves, folks!" Vivian announced.
"Thank you very much!" Wolfgang said.
"Let's see what the judges thought of Wolfgang's display!" Vivian announced as they judges gave him the grand total of 28.5. "28.5! A tough act to follow!"
"He's going to be tough to beat. That was really good," Sora said.
Other performances came and went. One is a Charizard using its Flamethrower, making it into a spiral and a Blastoise firing Hydro Pump.
"Next up is contestant number 21! Let's hear it for Kairi!" Vivian announced as Kairi took out her Pokéball and threw it.
"Come out, Milotic!" Kairi called out. Kris was awestruck by the sight of Milotic. Milotic came out, making a majestic entrance. "Start up with a Dragon Dance!" Milotic begins by using her Dragon Dance. The audience were captivated by Molitic's movements.
"Milotic makes its entry by doing a majestic Dragon Dance!" Vivian announced.
"Use your Water Pulse!" Kairi ordered. Milotic forms a huge orb of water and sent it right up into the air.
"Milotic is making good use of its Water Pulse!" Vivian announced.
"Use Breaking Swipe!" Kairi ordered. Milotic's tail gave off a beautiful purple glow. She swung her tail at the orb of water, making it sparkle, more so than Wolfgang's Mightyena.
"Such a lovely display!" Vivian announced as the judges all gave Kairi a 29.5. "And it looks like the judges all agree! Kairi has scored a 29.5!"
"I knew you'd do it, Milotic," Kairi said as Milotic nuzzled her.
"That was amazing," Riku said.
"And it was really pretty," Kris added.
"A Pokémon like Milotic really suits her perfectly," Ethan said.
"And what's that supposed to mean, Ethan?" Kris asked, sounding a little jealous.
"Um, I was just being a supportive friend for Kairi and I know a Milotic would be perfect for you, too, Krissy. I mean, Milotic is pretty and you're pretty," Ethan said as he chuckled nervously. Kris smiled, hearing her boyfriend complimenting her.
"I guess I should forgive you for that... This time," Kris said. Ethan sighed in relief.
"I can't believe I just put my own foot in my mouth," Ethan said in his thoughts.
A few more performances came and went as Kairi is in the back, Sora, Riku, Naminé, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Lisia, Rei, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill came to the back.
"That was awesome, Kairi," Lyra said.
"Marill, Marill!" Marill agreed.
"Yeah, we were all at the edge of our seats," Naminé said.
"Thanks, everyone. I wasn't sure I'd do it, but I managed to pull it off," Kairi said.
"Well, your hard work paid off for it," Rei said.
"May I have your attention, please? We now have the final scores from the judges. The contestants moving on in the second round are..." Vivian paused as Wolfgang's mugshot appeared first, along with a boy with blue hair and a girl with brown hair tied in pigtails. "Wolfgang, Stephano, Abigail, and Kairi! Bring a grand total of four!"
"I knew you'd make it in, Kairi," Sora praised his girlfriend.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.
"Now it's time to see if my hard work will pay off," Kairi said.
The Coordinators were arranged. Kairi will be first against Stephano.
"To those who are new to the rules of Contest battles, the second round is a series of Pokémon battles, not only displaying strength, but grace as well! First we have Kairi and Stephano! Begin!" Vivian announced. The clock starts running. Stephano took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Wartortle!" Stephano called out as Wartortle made its entry. Kairi took out her Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Milotic!" Kairi called out. Milotic emerged from inside, making a graceful move and ready to battle.
"Wartortle! Use Iron Tail!" Stephano ordered. Wartortle came at Milotic with an Iron Tail.
"Milotic! Use Breaking Swipe!" Kairi ordered. Milotic swings her tail and lands a hit on Wartortle, dealing some damage, and cutting Stephano's points.
"Kairi makes an elegant start by blocking Wartortle's Iron Tail with a beautiful Breaking Swipe!" Vivian announced.
"Wartortle! Use Bubble Beam!" Stepanho ordered. Wartortle fired a Bubble Beam right at Milotic.
"Wartortle has fired a bubbly Bubble Beam!" Vivian announced.
"Use Hydro Pump!" Kairi ordered. Milotic fired Hydro Pump, cutting through Wartortle's Bubble Beam and hitting Wartortle.
"Milotic has dealt some heavy damage on Wartortle and Stephano's points!" Vivian announced.
"Wartortle! Use Rapid Spin!" Stephano ordered. Wartortle withdrew in its shell and spins around. Wartortle launched and lands a hit on Milotic, cutting Kairi's points.
"Stephano and Wartortle are fighting back and took out a chunk of Kairi's points!" Vivian announced.
"Use Dragon Dance!" Kairi ordered. Milotic uses her Dragon Dance to build up both of her speed and attack. "Use Breaking Swipe!" Milotic swerved and lands a hit with a Breaking Swipe. Wartortle was knocked out.
"And Wartortle's unable to battle! Kairi will be moving on to the final stage!" Vivian announced.
"You were wonderful, Milotic!" Kairi praised the Tender Pokémon as she nuzzled her Trainer.
The next battle began as Wolfgang and Abigail entered the stage.
"The second and final semi-final match of the Verdanturf Town Pokémon Contest is about to begin! It's our second seat, Wolfgang and Abigail! Let the battle begin!" Vivian announced. Wolfgang took out his Pokéball and threw it.
"Mightyena! Go!" Wolfgang shouted. His Pokéball opened and Mightyena came out with a swirl of stars.
"I'm going to come out on top here and now!" Abigail said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Pidgey!" Abigail called out. Her Pidgey came out, ready to battle. "Pidgey! Use Gust!" Pidgey flapped its wings and sent out a powerful wind.
"That Gust has immobilized Mightyena!" Vivian announced.
"I think not! Mightyena! Use Feint Attack!" Wolfgang ordered. Mightyena vasnished and beaned Pidgey on the mark, taking out a chunk in Abigail's points.
"A flawless counterattack! And with that, Abigail's points has taken some serious hits!" Vivian announced.
"Pidgey! Use Aerial Ace!" Abigail ordered. Pidgey flew right at Mightyena and hits it like a dart hitting a target.
"And now, Abigail takes points from Wolfgang!" Vivian announced.
"Whoa, mama! Now, don't be cruel, to a heart that's true. Mightyena! Use Dark Pulse!" Wolfgang said. Mightyena fired a Dark Pulse, hitting Pidgey on the mark. Pidgey was knocked out.
"And Pidgey is unable to battle, and Wolfgang is our lucky winner! Please proceed to the final stage!" Vivian announced.
"Thank you very much," Wolfgang said. Mightyena howled.
"Wolfgang's good. I have a feeling he won't be easy, so we're gonna have to give it everything we got," Kairi said.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for: The final championship showdown between Kairi and Wolfgang!" Vivian announced. "Let the match begin!" Wolfgang took his Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Mightyena!" Wolfgang called out. Mightyena came out with a swirl of stars.
"Go! Milotic!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and Milotic came out.
"Mightyena! Feint Attack!" Wolfgang ordered. Mightyena vanished and reappeared to land a hit on Milotic.
"And Mightyena lands the first blow with a Feint Attack! How will Kairi and Milotic respond?" Vivian announced.
"Milotic! Use Breaking Swipe!" Kairi called out. Milotic swings her tail right at Mightyena, landing a hit.
"Use Shadow Ball!" Wolfgang ordered. Mightyena fired a Shadow Ball right at Milotic.
"Milotic! Use Water Pulse!" Kairi ordered. Milotic fired a Water Pulse, countering Mightyena's Shadow Ball.
"And with an incredible display, Kairi counters Wolfgang's Shadow Ball with a Water Pulse!" Vivian announced.
"Whoa, mama, that was smoother than peanut butter and banana sandwiches! But I'm not done yet, darlin' I got more tricks up my sleeve! Yeah!" Wolfgang said. He sang, "Shadow Ball, followed by Feint Attack!" Mightyena fired Shadow Ball first and moved in with a Feint Attack. The Shadow Ball followed Mightyena, landing double the hit on Milotic.
"Wolfgang has just used a combination attack; a heavy point loss for Kairi!" Vivian announced.
"Milotic!" Kairi exclaimed. "This is tougher than I thought, but I won't give up that easily. Milotic! Use Hydro Pump!" Milotic fired a Hydro Pump right at Mightyena.
"Dodge and use Giga Impact, yeow!" Wolfgang sang. Mightyena successfully dodged Milotic's Hydro Pump and lands a heavy hit on Milotic, cutting into Kairi's points.
"Mightyena has made a big push with an overwhelmingly impressive Giga Impact!" Vivian announced. The clock reads three minutes remaining.
"I'm gonna have to build up my speed, and luckily, I have just the move. Use Dragon Dance!" Kairi ordered. Milotic majestically uses her Dragon Dance to build up both her attack power and speed.
"Mightyena! Use Giga Impact again!" Wolfgang ordered. Mightyena charged right at Milotic with another Giga Impact.
"And Mightyena comes right in with another Giga Impact!" Vivian announced.
"Dodge and use Hydro Pump!" Kairi ordered. Thanks to her increased speed, Milotic has successfully dodged Mightyena's Giga Impact, much to Wolfgang's surprise.
"What?!" Wolfgang exclaimed. Milotic fired Hydro Pump and it lands a hit with a more powerful Hydro Pump. It cuts Wolfgang's points in half. "I forgot Dragon Dance pumps up a Pokémon's speed and attack. But it won't stop me. Like my daddy always told me, 'quitters never prosper, and giving up is never an option'. Mightyena! Use Shadow Ball and make it your best-seller!" Mightyena fired a Shadow Ball and it heads right towards Milotic.
"Dodge and use Breaking Swipe!" Kairi ordered. Milotic swings her tail and lands a hit on Mightyena.
"These two are really going neck-to-neck! And they have only seconds left! on the clock!" Vivian announced.
"Time to end this, baby. Mightyena! Use Giga Impact!" Wolfgang ordered. Mightyena ran towards Milotic with a Giga Impact.
"Milotic! Use Hydro Pump!" Kairi ordered. Milotic fired a Hydro Pump and it hits Mightyena on the mark.
"Mightyena!" Wolfgang exclaimed. The clock runs out.
"Time's up! The victory goes to..." Vivian paused. It shows Kairi has a little bit more than Wolfgang does. "Kairi and her Milotic!"
Wolfgang helps Mightyena up.
"You okay there, my little hound dog?" Wolfgang asked. Mightyena whimpered sadly. "Hey, don't sweat it, buddy. You did your best. You're always an ace to me." Mightyena licks his face. He and Mightyena walked up to Kairi with a smile on their faces. "That was a wild battle, Kairi. You're quite a Coordinator."
"I was thinking the same thing about you, Wolfgang. You almost had me, to be honest," Kairi said.
"True, but you turned it around. Thank you very much," Wolfgang said.
As Kairi and Milotic stood before the judges, Sora, Riku, Naminé, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Rei, Lisia, Pikachu, Angel, Eevee, Azurill, and Marill were among a gathering for the closing ceremony.
"With the judges' presentation of Kairi and her Milotic, the prized Verdanturf Town Pokémon Contest Ribbon, the Verdanturf Town Pokémon Contest has come to a close! Congratulations, Kairi!" Vivian announced.
Kairi has earned herself her third Conest Ribbon, meaning she now has two more left to collect. All that remains for the moment is Sora's upcoming Gym battle in Petalburg City, and to get there, Sora, Kairi, and their friends had to make their way through Rustboro City, and they will meet up with Ash, Leaf, Brendan, May, and Max before they get there.
