Chapter 16
A New Road (Final)
Swain's manor
Swain's arm was bright red as a Spell was causing the worst kind of pain on the man.
"I'll ask again, why were you spying on Celestine?" Swain's voice was calm and cold.
The tortured man wheezed from being under the spell, truly this had gone on for hours, and it this point, it had become apparent for the knight that help was a long way off, still he held on, looking up at the lord weakly.
"Hehehe...I...told...you...you're...wasting... your...time...whatever...you...sought...you...won't...get it from me!" he spat back.
Swain looked at him with cold eyes before saying, "I wanted to see if you could come to reason... but it seems that I need to 'Force' the answer with a more radical way."
He then entered in the knight's soul and began to watch the conversation between the knight and the archbishop.
"You will go to Celestine and monitor her actions, but you will NOT interfere, simply report them to me...I will take care of it...' Grisholm ordered.
The knight looked a bit unsure about this request, 'But isn't this a form of treachery...? Spying on the goddess would no doubt be heresy, would it not?"
"Not when it's for the good of the church and our goddess, think of it as protection for her...ever since that old crow has shown himself, I fear the worst for Eostia, we've corresponded less and this simply cannot be...see to that, and I will see to your sick little sister's health, sir Klein..."
The knight known as Klein looked as if he took a blow, before taking a bow, "I-1 will see to it at once...such as long as you keep your end of the bargin..." turning to leave, before stopping, "And if I'm caught...?"
"Best you do not worry about that, I'll have members of the church escort your sister here, she will be treated in our utmost care...just worry about your mission and I'll see that you're well rewarded..." Grisholm ensured, with a weird smile.
The knight continued out of the door but picked up something as he made his way out...
"I must get ready to contact the grand priest of Ur, in case everything here goes wrong...there's always another way..."
...
'Interesting...' Swain looked at the man before asking, "What's her age?"
Although his eyes were still glowing from the spell, he still had enough strength to muster, "She's...12 years old...sir..."
"She's going to be dead if she's not saved." Swain pointed before using his powers to get in contact with soldiers in the city, "I'll send you a house, go there and rescue the girl, fast."
"Sir!" was the response he got.
"Do you have any idea what's going to happen to her? That man will abuse her until she dies." Swain reprimanded the man who got his senses back, "You didn't send her to be cured, but to her execution."
Klein was in shock, not believing what he just heard, "What...? What do you mean by "abuse...?' are you saying...that he'd do the opposite...? That's not what we agreed on...why would he do that to a sickly girl...? a child no less..."
"Haven't you heard of the other villages? The children that went missing? It was him." Swain pointed, "And now your sister will be joining them."
The tired knight went wide-eyed upon thinking about this, reports of the missing children coming back to him and the many times he had been ordered to ignore it...and now, his own sister was about become a victim of it..." THAT was all him? By the goddess...I can't believe it...then that means all of this...me holding out...has been for nothing...he sent me to die..." coming to a scary realization.
"Sir!" a communication came to him, "We've got the girl from the hands of holy soldiers."
"Is she safe?" Swain asked.
"She appears to be sick, but no harm was done to her." the soldier responded.
"Good, bring her here, she needs to be treated." Swain ordered.
"Sir!"
"You're lucky that my men were fast enough," Swain said as he looked at the man.
The tortured knight was once again flabbergasted, "I...don't know what to say...you tortured and yet...you're now helping me...? you can't blame me if I feel lost here..."
"You are the one who refused to comply, otherwise I wouldn't have gone to such extremities." Swain pointed, "But I do understand what is it when you wish to save a member of your family. You thought that you were following a righteous path, but you were walking against Celestine."
With one snap of his fingers, the man was freed and the head maid entered.
"Del, see that he's been taken care of; healing, cleaning, and clothing," he ordered.
"Of course, my lord" the maid smiled as she bowed to Swain.
"When you're done, let's talk about something else; a boost in your career." Swain pointed before leaving the man.
Klein nodded, still feeling strange about it, but he'd be lying to himself if he wasn't grateful, "O-of course...thank you, Lord Swain..." with a slight bow, before heading off with the maid.
Some minutes earlier
Streets of Ken
The group of Red Spears contacted by Swain made their way to the house only to notice three Holy Knights forcefully dragging a girl.
"What are you doing?" one of the Red Spears asked as the others encircled the two, "You have a few seconds to let the girl go."
The knight's sweated a bit, before the first one stepped forward, "We are under direct orders to move this girl to the church by the archbishop himself," hand on his sword, "You red spears have no authority here, begone!"
"The girl doesn't want to go and you're forcing her?" the Red Spear lead asked with a threatening tone, "Thankfully, Celestine gave us enough authority to protect the citizens of Ken from any danger. And the girl is in danger, so..." he then snapped, "Red Spears! In formation!" the soldiers took a more offensive stance with the spears out and ready to kill, "The girl is afraid, scared, and you are forcing her to follow you... I think that with all the witnesses here, it would be justified that we 'kill' the monsters in front of us."
The lead holy knight stared down the spears surrounding him, as his men stood there unsure of what to do...
"Sir...do you really think we can fight them all...?" One of his knights asked, getting a headshake from the man.
"No, not with these numbers," turning to the two knights, "Let the girl go, now," he ordered.
The two knights holding her arms, shoved her forward, before moving behind their commander.
"We'll take our leave, we're not idiots and fighting you is a death sentence...I advise you all though, watch your backs..." before leaving with the two knights.
The lead Red Spear glared from his helm as the knights were leaving while one of the Red Spears was comforting the girl, 'I think that I should inform Lord Swain that we succeeded.'
Back to the present
Swain sighed before mumbling, "These Holy Knights are becoming more trouble than help. Maybe I should move now... no, this will be the perfect excuse for the unholy man to move against me."
He sighed before taking a crystal out, "Celestine, how about having tea with me tomorrow?"
With the Caravan...
Back on the road, the deal with the repaired goblin village had gone well enough, they were now on their way to the last village on their trip, the trio sharing the mead barrel while on their mounts, the Redguard handing Erik his tankard.
"Thanks sir, I'll try not to get wasted..." The nord thanked, taking a gulp of his, "Oh...it's actually better than one at home,"
"Really? I'll have to try it myself," Traysek grinned, "And if you do Erik, consider me disappointed..." handing Recorder hers, "We never got to try this stuff after we left from that other village..."
Erik glanced at Recorder holding her tankard, "I get that, but was it wise giving her any? you know as well as I do how she is on alcohol..."
The Redguard thought about that, recalling an instance they were kicked out of the bannered mare, "You know, this might not be that strong, keep in mind how much alcohol goes into typical mead," turning his head, "Right? Recorder?"
There was response from her at first, putting worrying look on his face.
"Uh...Recorder are you there...? you're kind of freaking me out with awkward-"
*Hic!* she rose up from her mount with a sheepish drunk smile, "Recorder *Hic* reporting for duty!" with a sloppy salute...
...
"Are you fucking kidding me...? how many sips this time?!" Traysek asked her, getting a laugh from her.
"Weeeeee!" was her response.
"No not 'weeeeee' sober up quickly!" The Redguard berated, "Nobody is this much of a lightweight, no one!"
"Trust me, there's someone worst than her." Endra's voice was full of dread, "I don't think that I need to point who..."
Traysek slightly turned his head to Dargo, who was blushing and looking away, "Oh by the gods no...he can't hold his liquor either?"
Erik shook his head at her, "I told you so, sir...don't worry, on our next stop, she's taking the cold express to sober up..."
"No! no ice *hic* water!" she protested, getting groans from the other two, "Just let it burn~"
"..."
The Redguard came out of his facepalm, "Yeah, we're definitely doing that when we stop...I don't care if it's ice water or the lake..."
"At least she doesn't go berserk on you..." Endra sighed.
"Berserk...? by the nine, please tell me the bars have remained..." Traysek groaned, glancing back at her, "She sorta gets that way, but if you try to take it from her, he sounding like he jumps at anyone...oh fun..."
Erik seldomly nodded, "Noted, keep alcohol away from both...especially during a job..."
"Lookie here Mister! *hic* I am not that bad! just a little tipsy," she retorted with, turning to Endra, "And all will be *hic* if you don't try to take Gary from me!"
The nord chuckled, "And Whose 'Gary?' supposed to be...?"
She held up the mug high, "Gary!"
At this, the Redguard blinked twice, disbelievingly, "You name your mug... Gary...? ok that's it," charging up frostbite and blasting her with it, taking care not to hit the mount under her, "Sobering you up myself!"
Recorder let out a scream while flailing, huffing after he stopped the spell, "Ahhh! what happened, where are we?"
"~Oh she has arisen, wake up!" Traysek barked, stopping "Four sips...four sips is what it took...how?!"
She laughed nervously, "Uh...well... I told you I wasn't good with alcohol, that's on you!" her cheeks rosy red of embarrassment.
"You're blaming me- you didn't have to take it, genius!" The Redguard bit back with, "You see what we gotta deal with here...?"
"So easy to manage." Endra smiled, "You're so lucky... try dealing with him after letting him drink half a cup, not a mug, just half a mug..."
Traysek sighed, "Today...today it was easy..." giving him a sympathetic smile, "I keep plenty of frostbite scroll, I won't mind giving you few after this..."
"Especially if they prevent bar slaughterings...I can't imagine what you go through there," Erik snickered, "At least it isn't Yuri here drunk, now that's out of control..."
"Don't remind me..." The Redguard shuddered, "Gods, the last thing anyone needs is for that to happen...hope their job went well for them though, I'm sure they'll have a story or two for us when we get back," looking ahead, noting how off the lead centaur is walking, "Speaking of back...anyone notice how off this pace has been...?"
"She's maybe dealing with bad memories." Endra replied, "Well it's the Khan's problem, not ours."
"Oh I'm aware, I don't plan on getting involved unless it comes in that form again..." Traysek said, while putting away the barrel, "But, we're miles from back there, so it shouldn't matter..."
Endra simply shrugged as they continued their way.
Village 5...
Erdora
The caravan arrived at the next village, looking familiar to the trio, as Traysek rose an eyebrow.
"I know this place..." He began with, glancing at the now fortified walls, "Looks like they had another upgrade while we were away,"
Erik nodded, "Erdora...the kletzkreig here really did the place a service,"
"I thought this village was improved the last time we were here, my expectations have been blown..." Recorder said, with a shocked expression.
"You know this place?" Endra asked.
Traysek nodded slowly, "Yeah, we do...it was run down when we first came here...mold eating through the walls, ran down...and grave wanted us to collect on them since they were late paying him off...well, you can see how that went..."
"Seems like a lot of villages of the Shields are like that... talk about helping their people..." Disgust could be seen in Endra's voice.
Erik narrowed his eyes at the thought, "Say what you want about the empire, sir, but they've never treated their people like that...never and they surrendered..."
"Aye, sure I didn't like the nobles there, but they at least could be tolerated...these nobles? no chance in oblivion..." Traysek concluded, shaking his head.
Recorder spotted two figures approaching the caravan, "Well, I think we're about to get our answer on what's been happening," nodding her head towards them.
One of them was Anderson while the other was Ernest.
Traysek smirked, 'Well well, never thought I'd see the father outside of the orphanage...guess he's here to greet us with Ernie' Glancing around, 'Only one I'm not seeing is Mayek...'
Recorder narrowed her eyes, "I see these two, but where's that other guy?"
"The one the boss fought with? no idea..." Erik said, "It's also quiet too...maybe that's a good thing,"
"We'll see..." The Redguard responded with.
"I heard that you were coming, but I didn't thought that was true." Ernest stated with a bright smile.
"At least we can get some new things, maybe some toys," Anderson said.
As the merchants began to do the transactions, Dynede began heading into the village.
Traysek noticed but thought nothing of it, as he got off the mount, "Something tells me we're going to be here for awhile, I'm going to greet our old friends," heading towards Anderson and Ernest.
Recorder dismounted her goat, stretching afterward, "Guess we can check on the orphanage too while we're at it, not that I like the place, but the kids are nice enough,"
"Well, last time was a bit hostile, not getting that this time," Erik added in, hopping off his mount, cracking his neck.
"It's been quite a while, captain!" Ernest greeted while Anderson and two nuns were looking for some things for the orphanage, "How's the war going?"
Traysek chuckled nervously, "Yeah...it's going..." sighing after, "Things have changed though, for example, me working with them," nodding his head towards the caravan.
"But I heard that..." at first, Earnest was confused, but later laughed as he understood, "I wish I could see the look on the Shields' faces."
The Redguard chuckled, "Oh it was even funnier when they tipped over paralyzed...most of them anyway...better than the looks we were getting before then..." shuddering at the thought, "Mind walking with me? there's so much you need to catch up on..."
"Of course." the mayor nodded.
As Traysek and the Mayor walked off, Erik glanced at the forge, furrowing his brow...
"That wasn't here the last time we can by, I wonder what they've got in stock..." he said, before making his way to it.
Recorder sighed, turning to Dargo, "I'm going to check on the kids, you are more than welcome to tag along, I'll show you around if you like," leaving towards the village.
...
Both Traysek and Ernest walked as the people of the village were living happily while soldiers in red armor were patrolling.
"They look happier than they did the first time we showed up," The Redguard commented, "Never seen the soldiers in red before though, going to assume they're the ones who put those walls up,"
Ernest laughed before saying "Those are the same Dark Elves that were here." he then added, "Some sort of noble took control over the village and gave them these armors."
Traysek rubbed his chin at that, "A noble provided these huh? I can't see many doing this, but one does come to mind..." smiling, "Really helped us out of there, that's for sure..."
"Also, we did get a new resident from the capital." Ernest pointed, "One that's a little strange, but not unwelcome."
"Oh? you've got someone new living here? must be a good enough person if you let them stay, even if they're as strange as you say," Traysek nodded, "Look up, and soon you'll have more here, you never know,"
"As long as they don't try to harm the village. Besides, we did get some skills with weapons" Ernest smirked, "Now, no one will ever get to look down on us ever again."
The Redguard rose an eyebrow, "I'm glad to hear that, I really am..." with a smile, that soon turned empty, "You may need to use all you've learned soon..." eyes going dark, "Here's how things have actually been going..."
At that, he began to regale everything that took place at the black fortress and the capital...
Meanwhile, at the blacksmith
Erik walked up to the shop, finding rather decent and expensive-looking weapons lying around, hearing the sounds of metal being struck in the back.
'So they DID get metal working started here, good...' pulling out his worn axe, 'hoping they can either fix this one, or maybe it's time to get something new...' clearing his throat, "Hello? is anyone there?"
"Coming!" a rather familiar voice replied.
Erik frowned at the sound of the voice, 'I know that voice...but it can't be...she should be at Ken...'
"How can I help you?" Dihya came to greet the Nord.
"Dihya! long time no see!" Erik greeted, surprised, "I figured that was your voice I heard, didn't know you took over as the blacksmith here," looking around.
"You're the Nord friend of the other Dragonborn, right?" Dihya chuckled, "What brings you here?"
"I could ask the same of you, after we fled the city we had no idea where you went," The nord said, "We assumed you got away then, just didn't you end up here...as for what we're doing, we're with the caravan that just arrived here,"
"Caravan huh?" Dihya went in deep thought, "Reminds me when I was contracted to help the Khajiits in their travel through Skyrim."
"There were many back home, even made a deal with one a while back..." Erik nodded, "As for the "other" Dragonborn, he just wandered off somewhere with the mayor, but since you're working here," laying his worn axe on the table, "I was hoping I could have this either repaired or replaced,"
"Let's see..." she ran her hand on the top of the weapon, nodding a few times, "An imperfect weapon... no balance between the components... I see... ten golds and you'll have to wait around three hours. I still need to finish something."
He then noticed the ornate but twisted-looking daggers near the forge, before nodding and handing over 10 gold, "Okay then, I'll be back in 3 hours...provided if we can stay that long anyway,"
Dihya simply nodded before taking the axe back with her.
After she left the front of the shop, Erik gazed around at the other weapons, noting their quality, 'But the way these are looking, I might decide to make a purchase of one before going...' continuing to browse with a smile.
At the Orphanage
Recorder stood at the orphanage doors, gulping away her worries, 'Back at this place again...okay Record, you've been through the doors before, this will be nothing this time...' knocking on the door.
"There's no one here..." Dargo mumbled, "I don't hear anything..."
She frowned, until the sounds of cheering came from around the building, "Maybe not in there, but around here I hear something," heading to the back of the building...finding a few of the kids running around playing, as well as a nun overseeing them.
Instead of ragged clothes or anything like it, they had clean and well-made clothes as well as some updates in the form of a playground full of games.
"I...don't believe it...they funded the orphanage too..." She said in shock, "More than that, I don't remember a playground this large in...any of them...incredible..."
One of the kids, little nicky approached her offering a flower crown with a bright smile.
"Is this...for me...?" Record asked him, getting a shy nod in response, as the nun approached them.
"Take it...we've been giving them out to visitors ever since Lord swain gave us his support," she told her.
Record went wide-eyed, "You're...sister Annette...how have you been since the rescue?"
"Here and there...to be honest, sometimes I wake up and I'm back there...in that cell," Annette responded with, eyes darkened, "But, I live and I can't forget my duties here..."smiling again.
"I see...no wonder you bounced back up again," Recorder grinned, before taking the flower crown donning it, "Besides, after what's been done here, I can't look at this place the same as I do everywhere else now," turning to nicky, bending down, "Thank you for the crown, not my thing, but I'll keep it..."
The youngest child blushed upon her hand on his head, before giving her a warm smile...which brightened up hers.
Once the child went back to playing with his friends, Recorder stood there for a second, chuckling and taking off the crown, facing away from Dargo.
"You know, I grew up in one of these years ago...only it was never this good, even down to the caretakers who were sadistic in their own way..." she began with, "As happy as I was to leave that place, mirrors how happy these kids are now..."
Dargo looked at her before sighing, "Sometimes fate is against us. Therefore we must fight against it until we get our fate in our hands."
She chuckled lightly, turning around, "My god...I'm not trying to laugh, but that is probably the corniest speech I've heard about it..." However, her smile wasn't a mocking one, "But, you're not wrong about fighting against it...done that too many times to count...both with this group and without them..." placing a hand on his shoulder, "And we'll continue to, just as we always do...even if that fate's against us..."
There was a long and awkward atmosphere around them as the children were looking at them.
She gave a nervous chuckle, taking her hand off, "I forgot we had an audience here..." clearing her throat, "Well? nothing to see here folks!"
The children gave a collective groan, the child Rumy shaking her head.
"Seriously? we were expecting you to kiss!"
"We're not doing that!" Recorder snapped back with bright blush, making them laugh harder, "Stop it damn you, I'm trying to make a point here!"
The kids laughed harder, which only added to her embarrassment...
"Geez, making me regret coming here and you aren't even bandits," She sighed, turning to Dargo, "Well, I'm going to take off, I see they're doing pretty good over here, no reason to stay-"
A dhampir child walked over to her with a large sack of something...
"You sure you don't want any cookies before you go?" she asked her, "I offer less for couples~"
Recorder stared at her with narrowed eyes, "Fine, I'll take a bag I guess, how much?"
"20 gold," Was Milla's response.
"Ok, that doesn't seem so bad-"
"Per cookie..." The dhampir added in, making her groan.
"Oh...you little price gouge... fine," Recorder sighed, giving her a small bag, "How much would 200 give me then?"
Milla gave her a fanged smile, "Plenty, more than enough actually..." handing her a small sack of cookies.
Recorder took them, with a nod, "Pleasure doing business~" before walking off with Dargo following.
"They were cute..." Dargo mumbled.
She nodded, "They were, you should've seen them when we first met, that was heartbreaking..." checking the bag, "Atleast I've got something to share with the other two now, just hoping it's not-" stopping when she saw the shape, "Goddamn it...if the universe is trying to tell me something, it's not being subtle..." showing him the heart-shaped cookie.
Dargo looked at them for a second before looking back at the grinning children.
With Traysek and Ernest...
Sitting down at the bench of the town center, the mayor was in shock once Traysek had relayed everything to him...
"So yeah, that's how bad things have gotten..." The Redguard concluded, "To make matters worse, I think most of them back there had his support,"
"I had no idea that it was that bad." Ernest sighed, "I hope that they don't attack this village."
Traysek nodded, "Yeah, just thought I give you a heads up on what's happening, and what to look out for...especially "friendly" visits from either holy or dog..." looking around, "But with your new security, I don't see you guys having too many problems with that, still even got that sharpshooter here," spotting Lina.
"Still, I fear that they one day overflow the defenses..." Ernest shook his head before adding, "I must speak to Mayek about it."
"Speaking of that...where is he?" The Redguard asked, "I noticed he wasn't amongst you during our arrival,"
"He must be training." Ernest answered before sighing, "I wish that I could fight the same way he does."
Traysek gave him a small smile, "I wouldn't doubt yourself, you're strong in your own way Ernie, it takes a different kind of strength to keep and run a village like this and you have that in spades, Mayek is just strong in another way, which works out for you in the long run..." standing up, "Where's the training ground I can find him?"
"I'll take you to him" Ernest replied while standing up, "His training ground is behind his house."
"He's gotten that comfortable huh? even better, lead the way," The Redguard nodded, following the mayor...
Mayek's house...
Mayek was shirtless, sweating, and training. From hours and hours of moves and techniques. He was so focused on his training that he didn't notice Traysek and Ernest were there.
"Here he is." the mayor pointed.
The Redguard folded his arms, watching him go on and on, "How long has he been at it...?" lighting his smoking pipe.
"Today was half an hour after waking up." Ernest stated, "He heard reports and gave orders while training."
After taking a puff, the captain frowned, "Really now...? Interesting, this almost gives me an idea, but I'm not too sure if I want to interrupt him..."
"I'm not interested in your pranks." Mayek said, still training, "And if you're here to laugh at me, you're wasting your time."
Traysek frowned at him, "I'm not here to prank or laugh at you, wouldn't be standing here this long if that was the case..."
"Just spill why you're here... Dragonborn." he said, still focused in his training.
The Redguard shrugged, "Dropped by with Caravan, I'm just checking up on the neighbors here, seems everyone has taken this well..." looking around, "And to know the allies I'll be working with soon..."
Mayek stopped before giving a confused look at Traysek, "Allies?"
"Yeah, you haven't heard...? Your general let us in after the assault on the black fortress...after our battle," Traysek began with, before rubbing the back of his neck, "And we may have been on the wrong side...dealing with the dogs and the holy knights...the caravan that's even here is from the secret city...so yeah, allies...unless there's a reason we shouldn't be..."
Mayek sighed before saying, "If the general says so, I don't have room to talk. However, the death of Meila is still your fault, and her sister isn't as forgiving as the General."
Traysek frowned at that, "Melia...? I don't remember a-" until a thought occurred...'"General!" a female voice called "We did as you asked and took this... village." it was a Dark Elf with short red hair. She was wearing dark armor and had a bastard sword on her back.
"-THAT Meila...gods I nearly forgot about that..." taking a soothing breath, "I don't know if that woman is actually dead...there was a lot of smoke, but, one thing I could make out...was life a signal...a faint one with my scouter," pointing at his eye goggle.
"Unless you bring actual evidence of her survivability, it won't change her sister's hatred." Mayek pointed as he grabbed a towel.
The Redguard sighed, "I have yet to meet her sister...but if I'm out and about around here, I'll keep my eyes out...who knows...? However, it's been days since then...If she is alive...I doubt she's in the same spot anymore..."
"Whatever, I'm not interested in getting turned into a piece of art if she comes here." Mayek said before walking to Traysek, "If you really want to be considered as an ally, you need to show it with actions."
The Captain grinned, "I intend to do that and more..." turning to Ernest, "Now, I believe Ernie here, had something he wanted to tell you..."
As Ernest began to talk with him, a Dark Elf scout ran toward them.
"Sir... there's... an army... marching on... this village..." the scout panted before adding, "Around five hundred men."
Mayek simply frowned at that, "Prepare the defense spells and tell Lina to be ready."
The scout nodded before running to do as he was asked.
"So they've come..." Ernest mumbled.
"And they won't do anything." Mayek replied, "I promised that I won't let them harm this village, and I'll keep my word."
"But-" Ernest didn't have time as Mayek stated.
"Lina is more than capable to deal with them. After all, she's the storm of the Kletzkrieg."
Traysek frowned upon that, "More people coming to collect? didn't know you guys were still getting that problem, this should be good," heading off in a direction.
...
On the top of a tower, Lina was in red armor, almost looking bored as the head soldier was reading something.
"By the orders of Lord Grave, you are to pay the tax of ten thousand gold as all villages under the protection of the Goddess Reborn should!"
On one of the barracks, The Redguard got a good view of what was transpiring, whistling at the amount of knights there, "That's rather...a lot of guys for a collection...wonder how this'll play out..." turning his eyes up at the bored archer, 'something tells me, from her expression, this won't last long...'
"As soon as they shut their mouth, huh?" Lina stretched her arms before taking her bow then took an arrow. She enhanced it with lightning before firing it up at the sky. A few seconds, after the sky darkened, a rain of electrified arrows fell on all the soldiers, frying them alive.
Traysek watched as every holy soldier fell, wincing at the ways some of them went down, 'Damn...it took one shot...one...is this the kind of power they offer back there...?' smirking to himself, 'If Inigo learned this technique, our battles would go so much easier...' remembering something, 'If he could put aside his fear of magic, his potential could rise even to these heights...I'll have to talk to him about it when I get the chance...' watching the last knight fall over dead with arrows in both of his eyes.
"Victory..." Lina's voice was full of boredom, "If only they would stop coming here. I'd rather spend my time painting." she sighed before moving away.
The Redguard shook his head, "Over as it began...guess I don't have anything to worry about..." leaving the area he was in.
Dihya's forge
"You really did a good job on these." a young woman said while looking at a couple of daggers.
"I've never had to work with such primordial components. But I managed to put it in good shape." Dihya stated.
"Swain was right about you, you sure know your stuff." the young woman smiled as she picked them, "I wonder how they'd work on the flesh of a living being."
Dihya shook her head, 'I hope that Lord Swain knows how she was before bringing her in the Birds of Prey.'
The Captain arrived at the blacksmith shop, finding a familiar face there, along with a new one...'I recognize the blacksmith, but whose the customer...? must be that weird one the mayor mentioned...' walking up to her counter, "Well well, never thought I find you here, how's it going Dihya?" with a grin.
"You're that other Dovahkiin. If my memory is good, your name is Traysek, right?" Dihya asked as the young woman was eying the spear on his back.
"Very nice looking... need more spikes for laceration... maybe something that does more pain... an impalement thing..." she mumbled.
"Can you please stop being like that, you're going to make him uneasy." Dihya scolded, "I swear, it's like dealing with Lucia all over again."
He simply laughed it off, "It's fine, reminds me of someone else I know too well..." turning to the young woman, "It's called the spear of thorns, I was trying to look for something spiker, but so far, it cuts just fine..." he shrugged.
"Meh, killing isn't the most important." she pointed.
"You know that your taste is weird and that you must stop pestering others." Dihya sighed.
Traysek waved Dihya down, "She's not being too much of a pest, trust me, I've met worse..." sighing and turning to the assassin, "And there's art with that, especially if they live long enough to remember it..." with a slight chuckle, offering a handshake, "Name's Traysek, and yours?"
"You don't seem like a noble; in both clothing and speech." she grinned before shaking his hand, "The name's Jenelica."
The Captain rose an eyebrow, "Nice to meet you...Not a fan of the nobles, eh? Neither am I," he chuckled with a nod, noticing a lute, "That's a pretty sweet lute, you a bard too?"
"Best bard in all of Eostia, only one with a strong voice that can curse a soul." Jenelica grinned before giving a thumb up, "Need a benediction to protect you, or a curse to kill your opponent, I'm your bard."
"I swear..." Dihya sighed as she felt a headache coming.
Traysek nodded in approval, "Enchanted singing...impressive, I'll keep that in mind... maybe I'll show up to one of your performances one of these days," with a genuine smile, "I went to a bard's college once myself, I know a few songs, but not enough to get me to THAT level,"
"If you're in Feoh, you'll be welcomed to the inn. I sing a lot to the people there" she stated with a smile.
"Sounds like a date~ I'm kidding of course, but I'll definitely take that invitation, might bring a few friends while I'm at," He nodded, turning to the facepalmed blacksmith, "It appears we have annoyed our residential blacksmith, I'm sorry Dihya..."
"If only you knew everything..." she sighed before adding, "But it's alright... especially if Lord Swain has chosen her himself."
"Well, I'm not that bad. After all, I'm the best bard of Eostia." Jenelica proudly pointed.
"Still, you need to make sure that you don't ruin our plans." Dihya warned, "Lord Swain worked too hard to make sure that the church's influence doesn't overflow the seven kingdoms."
"Yeah yeah, I know." the jester rolled her eyes, "I'm a professional, and since I was promised my beloved to fall in my grasp, with a little bonus, I'd do my best for our group."
"By Talos..."
Traysek rubbed his chin, "Well, we all have our motivations, and love is like an adventure..." nodding in agreement, "That said, I wish you all the luck in the world on it..." turning to Dihya, "How've things been for you since you've been here? last I checked, you were at the slums of Ken...what made you come all the way here?"
"It wasn't safe." Dihya replied, "Raising a child there isn't a good idea; physically and mentally."
"I won't argue with that, seen enough of that part of the city myself to know this...good call on there," The Redguard complimented, before a thought occurred, "But for all that filth in the nobility, I've met a couple that didn't seem so bad...the musel brothers, especially the younger one...they seem too different than the usual cut..."
Jenelica rolled her eyes before saying, "You have no idea how wrong you are. They're both cowards; one would like to use intimidation to dissuade you from fighting him while the other hides away and reports everything to the higher-ups."
Traysek frowned upon that, thinking about it, 'Okay...I get the first bit being Troy...he did come off a bit proud...but Reynold as a rat...? I doubt it, but then again...I didn't see where all he went after our trip from here...and he was and IS still a holy knight...could he really be the reason for what happened back there? no...no way, not after the trouble he went through for us not to hurt the people...but still...' coming out of his thoughts with a headshake, "I take it you know them well, if they are like that, they definitely didn't show it around me,"
"They've gotten better at hiding it..." Jenelica shook her head, "One day Lady Alicia snuck out of a training session, only to be caught and severely punished. I found out that the teacher's pet Rey told everything to the instructors. Not to mention all the bullying she was receiving from the older one. But once I gave him a lesson in a good song, he stopped doing it."
"You made him dance for his forgiveness, didn't you...? And you said '"Lady Alicia?" The Redguard rose an eyebrow, "Eh...I've met her once and I'll just say less, I don't really have a nice opinion, so I'm not saying anything there, but..." clearing his throat, "You have given me plenty to think on, I did not know this about them, especially the running to superiors part...after all that talk about wanting to do good for the city too..." sighing after, "It would...explain some things..."
"Nobles are always like that; smiling at your face before making you live through hell..." Jenelica pointed with a hint of anger.
Traysek nodded in agreement, "You're not wrong there, can't say I've met too many that aren't spineless or greedy or just outright cruel for the sake of it, can't tell you how good it feels giving them their just deserts,"
he then heard the whistle of the Caravan, getting his attention.
"Oh, right." Dihya grabbed a familiar axe and handed it to Traysek, "Give this to your Nord friend and advise him to get a better weapon. I was able to cover the damage and reinforce it, but I wouldn't trust it for long."
Traysek took the axe, "Ah, thank you, I'm sure he'll be happy to have it back...thank you," with a grin, "And since I heard that whistle, there's my cue...it was good seeing you again Diyha, and nice meeting you Jenelica, I'll see you ladies later," leaving with a wave.
As he was leaving Jenelica sighed, "Seems like a nice guy, I wonder how would the commander interact with him."
"Knowing the old Niall, he would like him," Dihya replied, earning a shrug from the bard.
Village center...
The Nord waited on a bench, with a tankard in hand...he watched as locals, humans, and elves passed by, carrying on their day while he waited on the axe to be repaired.
Then he heard the whistle for the caravan...
'Ah, looks like it's that time...I was enjoying waiting around for a while, oh well...' standing up stretching, before heading off to where the caravan was...
Nearing the training area...
Recorder and Dargo wandered around the village to kill some time after their visit to the orphanage...She was eating something as they passed a couple of the kletzkrieg training, humming at something...
Then, that's when they heard the loud whistle of the caravan, getting their attention.
"Did you hear that...? sounds like they're calling for us," Record told him.
"We will depart soon..." Dargo replied before looking at a doll he bought, "I wonder if she'd like it..."
Recorder noticed the doll he was holding, "That's a really cute doll, who's it for?" with a raised eyebrow.
"My little sister." the Dark Elf answered.
"Oh? I didn't know you had any siblings, no offense," She said surprised, "How many?"
"Two." Dargo said before adding, "I had to take care of them ever since the village we were in was destroyed fifteen years ago."
"I see...I had no idea..." She said in thought, "Well, I'm sure they're grateful for a brother like you, and I'm sure your sister will like it," with a grin.
"Thanks..." Dargo replied in a low voice.
At the gathering...
All of the hired caravan guards were gathered up before the lead centaur who seemed to be announcing something...
"We will get back on the road in ten minutes, so don't be late." she was still down.
Traysek stood in the crowd, going into thought, 'Ten minutes we're leaving...? That's rather generous..." Smirking to himself, 'And it gives me more than enough time...' before turning and leaving for the alley.
As he did this, he came across Erik who had just heard the news.
"Hey captain, were you there for the news?" The nord asked, raising an eyebrow, "I still have to get my ax from Dihya,"
"Yeah, I just came from there, I was about to head somewhere for business, also," The captain then pulled out his axe from under the cloak, "She told me to give you this, and some advice, you do need a better weapon, steel can only go so far..." handing it to him.
Erik took the axe back, "Thanks, and what business?"
"Nothing too big just gotta pick up something from the black market before going home," The Redguard explained, "It should take less than a few minutes,"
The nord nodded, "Okay, I'll try to find Recorder, hope what you're getting is worth it,"
"It should be," Traysek said, pulling out his cracked blade, "And I get to see if he can fix this too, sword took a nasty hit from that commander back there, so I can only hope," continuing his way to the alley.
Right as he left, Record and Dargo walked up to Erik...
"Hey Erik, where's he going? we're leaving in ten..." She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Heading to an alley, said something about a black market and replacing a blade that got damaged..." He told her, "What were you two doing?"
Record glanced at the orphanage, "We came from the orphanage and checked on the kids, they're in much better clothing than the last time,"
"That's good to hear, I had wondered how they were, now I know..." The nord grinned, turning to Dargo, "She hasn't caused you any trouble, has she?"
"You went to see kids, man you're fast." Endra chuckled as he approached them "Already thinking of the future."
Now, they were both blushing...well, to say they were blushing would be an understatement, Record's face was so red she nearly fainted...
"Oh...my god...can you not?" She facepalmed, "My image of you, is waning further and further with each statement, stop it!"
Erik chuckled, "Aww...I think you hit the nail on the head there-ow!" Taking a punch in the arm from her, "So violent...you sure you want this in bedroom...?" ducking a thrown rock next, breaking into a run, "By the gods woman, relax!"
"Son of bitch, come here!" She growled, chasing after him with a large stick.
Endra laughed before looking at Dargo with a serious look, "I think that you should really go for it and live your life."
"I shouldn't get too attached..." Dargo's tone was a bit sad, "At least, until I get that man's head."
"You didn't have a choice!" Endra snapped at him, "She was controlled by someone else to kill us! It was either her or us!"
"That doesn't forgive what I did..."
"Look, you need to get over it and finally be happy." Endra pointed, "When we get back try to invite her, pass some time with her."
"I'll try..." Dargo mumbled.
"Which means never." Endra sighed heavily.
Meanwhile, in the alleyway...
Traysek reached deep enough, before glancing around himself to ensure he was alone...
"Okay...it doesn't seem like anyone's here," Traysek noted, before tossing out a purple orb, summoning the dremora.
"Ah, master~ I was wondering when you planned on summoning me, to what do I owe the pleasure?" the daedra bowed.
The Redguard sighed, "Firstly, an apology...I'm sorry about judging your prices, they are indeed fair...compared to what I just met..."
The Dremora rose an eyebrow, smirking after, "Ah...so you met someone worse than me with pricing, huh? Not so cheap anymore am I?" folding his arms.
"No...you're not...that goblin was worse...so much worse..." Traysek facepalmed, shaking his head.
The Daedra cringed at that, "Did you say "Goblin"? Ooooh...yeah, they're not too nice with their pricing, it's almost robbery at that point..." giving a smile, "Apology accepted, Dovahkiin...but at least now you understand, right?"
"Yeah...I do..." He nodded, "And the second thing I called you here for, was to see what you had for me, said it was on the house..." showing the cracked blade, "And possibly your help in repairing this..."
The merchant took the blade, and gave it a smirk, "This?' Are you serious right now...? You're asking me to repair a common ebony sword...?"
"With an enchantment, yes..."
"Oho! With an 'enchantment!' cute...real cute master... vibration and lightning in it?" The Dremora asked, with the same smirk.
"What's wrong with that? it serves me just fine..." Traysek said, affronted.
"Oh, I'm sure it does...but again, this is cute compared to what I have for you...I'll fetch it now..." The merchant chuckled, going into his large sack, coming out with jagged thick stone sword with teeth and a scythe curve over the edge with yellow cracks running through it, with something at the base of the sword.
The Redguard went wide-eyed at that, "What...in oblivion is that...?"
The Dremora laughed, "Well, that's the point...it's a piece of oblivion, remade into a fine blade if say so myself, it might not look like much now, but apply that sword to forge flame, and you'll the true beauty of it..."
Traysek grabbed the sword, finding it to be lighter than it looked, twirling it in one hand, "By the dragon's teeth, it's like I'm barely holding anything but I can feel it...what kind of sword is this?"
"That blade is called, "Vul, Dinok Jut" or in common mortal tongue, the jaw of death or maw if you wish to call it that...one of the pieces of oblivion that once fell to Nirn...right now, it's asleep, but you can wake it up should you add forge flame and a bit of your blood to it..."
The Redguard nodded, giving the sword a few test swings, which sent out a gust of air when he did, nodding in approval, "I can see why you laughed at the other sword...is it only one-handed or..."
"You'll have to find that out yourself, but...should you awaken it, you're in for a surprise," The Dremora grinned, "And as I said, it's on the house. A gift from lord Hermaus mora himself..."
Traysek frowned upon that, "Mora huh? Not too sure if should thank him or worry about it...you never know with him, no offense,"
"None taken, I understand how fickle my lord can be, but if it's backlash you're worried about, you have nothing to fear there, that sword will serve you and only you until the end of your days...should you last that long, once it's activated it's highly compulsory, meaning nobody can use it against you, nor will it cut you..."
He nodded while inspecting the sword, "I'll keep that in mind, thank you, and tell Mora I said thanks too,"
"I'll be sure to, master..." Before giving a bow, "My time is up, should you need anything else the next time you call me, I will have to charge you for it..."
"Not a problem, I'll probably make another call later, especially if I'm being gouged like that," The Redguard chuckled, "Until next time..."
The Dremora gave a wave, as he began to disappear, "Until next time, sir..." completely vanishing if he was never there.
Traysek sighed, putting the new sword on his back, crossing it over with the spear, 'And that takes care of that...I wonder how it'll look once up...probably something weird and organic looking like Miraak's blade...gods I hope not, but I wouldn't unwelcome it...' leaving the alley finally...
With the caravan members
Endra took a deep breath as he looked over a couple of kids that were doing a 'last transaction of the day' with one of the merchants.
"You can have this toy in exchange of a smile." the Dark Elf said while smiling at the child.
Traysek made it back to the group, finding two things, the children buying things from the merchants, and the second thing...was witnessing Recorder beating Erik's ass mob style with a stick while he hid behind a shield, making him scratch the back of his neck...
'I...have no response to this...' he mused, while watching them go, walking up to them, "What...are you guys doing?"
"Ah, boss!" Erik greeted, taking another bash to the shield, "Can you help me out? she's gone rabid!"
Recorder stopped and turned around, "Oh good, you're back, how'd it go?"
"Think I just got myself a new blade, and it looks worth it too..." The Redguard motioned, "Looks like we're getting ready to go, hurry up and wrap up...whatever this is..."
She huffed, "Tell Erik to stop teasing me then! you guys have worn it out at this point!"
"I can't help that, you are hanging around the guy, it's natural to make jokes like- oof!" The Nord was interrupted with a boot to the chest, "Ok...I'll stop..." he wheezed out...
"Thank you!" She growled, dropping the stick, "Jeezus...I get it already, I haven't decided myself on that yet, you can stop now..."
Traysek chuckled, "What in oblivion am I going to do with you two...? Gods, hoping the other team hasn't had anything like this..."
"Where were you?" Endra approached Traysek.
The Redguard looked up, "I was here earlier, I told you, I had a black market I could call, got what was promised to me," turning his back, motioning to the new strange sword on his back, "Wasn't expecting a sword like this, but It's supposed to be good once Introduce it to forge flame...and maybe a bit of my blood,"
"That thing gives me the chills, and I'm not saying that because Dargo is near," Endra commented with a frown.
"There's a dark presence inside it..." Dargo's hands were twitching, "Dangerous..."
"I seriously hope that you know what you're doing." Endra sighed as he was shaking his head.
Traysek waved them down, "That Dremora has never done me dirty, and I doubt his lord would...given what all I've done for him in the past..." noting the worried looks, "It's supposed to be a Dragonborn's sword, made from pieces of oblivion...a darker plane than even here..." frowning at himself at the realization, "If it does becomes a problem after I wake it up with my dragon blood, I will see someone about it...I'm not one to leave something like that unchecked, especially if it'll cause problems, you have my word there..."
Both Dark Elves shared a glance.
"I suppose that we can trust you..." Endra stated before looking back at Traysek, "But I doubt that the others would accept it easily."
"Hiding it from them can help to fight the uneasiness..." Dargo pointed.
"That's a good point," Recorder cut in with, "That sword is creepy as hell... you will scare people by presence alone with this thing on your hip and/or back...
Traysek frowned at them, "I'm not going to parade with it; obviously, carrying a sword like this there is asking for trouble...and we just got there, I don't want any problems, so I'll see if they have any wrappings for swords when we get back, I doubt there's a sheathe for this...so wrappings will have to do..."
Erik nodded, "Yeah...by the gods, are those veins in that blade...? what's next a beating heart? Why? why do you dragonborn prefer the most grotesque weapons?!" turning to the other two, "This is a normal, trust me...you should've seen what the first one of them had as weapon... wait no...I'm sorry, weapons!"
Recorder shuddered at the thought, "A tentacle blade with an eye that would "Extend" with every swing...and a staff made of tentacles...ahhhhh!" grabbing her head, "There's nothing creepier than that, at least this is stone of some kind..."
"Dark stone..." Dargo corrected.
"But on the plus side, it means a lot of hurt for your opponents." Endra nodded, "And I doubt that another weapon like that exists."
Yamakhoz
Greil's office
Greil sneezed before mumbling, "Why do I feel like I was targeted..."
Back to Traysek and the others
"If you need help... you can ask us..." Dargo stated.
"We'd try to help in any way we can." he then grinned at Recorder, "ANY way we can."
She rolled her eyes, "Gee thanks...I'm sure Dargo appreciates it as much I do right now..." with a grin and sneer.
Traysek let out a laugh, "So you admit you share the same emotion...that's not admitting much at all~"
"You want some too? I still got the stick!" She growled, making both him and Archer laugh even harder, "Goddamn it, it's not funny, and Erik you got it coming back from me, you too boss!"
"If I get that lucky, sure, you can tease as much as you like," Erik snorted with a smirk.
"That goes double for me, and right now, I'm chasing gold, gems, and exotic weapons...so good luck there," The Dragonborn stated with a proud smirk.
Recorder gave them unamused looks, "Uh-huh, sure, but I'm still keeping tabs, because I'm not believing you...either of you..."
"You're so mean to them." Endra had a fake sad tone before getting punched in the sides by Dargo.
"Don't annoy her..." he warned.
Traysek chuckled, "Looks like he's got it covered on that end..."
"Agreed, I just took a beating from Recorder, I think I'm done..." Erik sighed, a smirk growing on his face, "For now..."
"How about entirely? entirely sounds GOOD!" She growled, making him, Traysek, and Endra snicker...until they couldn't hold it anymore, "Goddamn it...you guys are getting off to me getting angry aren't you...?"
The Redguard stopped, "I'm sorry we can't help that, especially when your face reddens like an apple, it's cute,"
"Ugh..." She groaned, as the three continued to laugh, "Just remember guys, your days are coming...all this teasing you're doing, I will make you pay for it..." narrowing her eyes on the captain, "Especially you captain..."I'M sEEking gOld and geMs" We'll see about that!"
"Man, I can hardly breath." Endra continued to laugh.
"Maybe I should tell her about Thelys." Dargo stated.
"Like I care." Endra whipped a tear before adding, "After all, my teasing period ended four years ago."
City of Ur
The first thing that would be noticeable is the empty eyes of the smiling citizens...It was a strange and unsettling feeling to Reynold, the people here seemed so...dead to him with those empty gazes...he had to admit, the people of Ken and Feoh had more light in their eyes than here...
'At first glance, they seem like normal people...but something feels amiss...what happened to these people's spirit for those gazes...?' he mused, coming across the large church a few feet ahead, "Well, it looks creepy enough, good place to start..." heading there.
When he entered, he found some sort of priest standing in front of people that were praying with the same empty eyes.
"Bask in the light of our one and only Goddess, the Goddess Reborn!" he proclaimed, "Feel her holiness and fall in her arms as she will protect you from the dark monsters of the Dark Elf Witch and her heretical goddess! Pray to the Goddess Reborn! And feel her light in you!"
"All hail the Goddess Reborn." they all said with smiles, but with near-dead monotone voices.
Reynold stood there blinking and slack-jawed, 'That...was a bit extreme for a sermon...not to tell him how to do it, but by the goddess, he could've left some of that out...' narrowing his eyes on him, 'Well, if I have to start somewhere, he'll be good enough...' walking to the priest.
"Welcome, my child! How can the church aid one of the holy order?" the priest asked.
Reynold gave a bow, "Father, it is truly an honor...you gave one hell of a sermon..." with a grin before his face went back to Neutral, "Do you have somewhere we can talk privately? I am here on business,"
"I merely try to do as the Grand Priest asks us." the priest replied before motioning Rey to go in a direction, "Let's talk in the sacristy."
Rey nodded and proceeded to follow him...unbeknownst to the shadow lurking nearby...
Once they reached his private office, Rey took a seat at the desk as the priest did, giving him a nod.
"Thank you for the opportunity," he thanked, "I'll try to be brief, I'm here because of the attacks on the nobles in this city, if there's anything you can tell me about it, I would appreciate it,"
"Ah yes. A sad and tragic affair." the priest shook his head with sadness, "Nobles and merchants were attacked and food was stolen from them. The survivors said that a monster with elk antlers attacked them, others said that the forest attacked them. However, we do know that if it is not stopped we'd lose more lives... like how we lost Sir Gallio Atrius. A great man who will be missed."
Rey frowned upon hearing that name, "I've heard of him, he was a hero of Ur for the longest..." signing solemnly, "Looked up to him when I was younger, it's tragic hearing what happened to him..." closing his eyes, "I assure you, I'll find whoever's ever been doing this,"
"Now go, my child. May the blessing of the Goddess Reborn be with you." the priest smiled before remembering something, "Before I forget, You'd better stay away from the house of a heretic noble. He is known to never attend ceremonies. He also spoke against Sir Gallio Atrius. So you'd better watch where you're stepping."
The young knight gave him a hard frown, "Heretical noble?' I was not told about this...interesting, I'll keep my wits," narrowing his eyes, 'Especially on you...that felt like a threat than a warning...something about this, stinks...and I'm not just talking about the old smell in here...' giving the priest a bow, "If that's all, thank you, I shall return if there's anything else I find out..." before turning and walking out.
When the young knight exited the room, the priest's smile dropped.
"Grand Priest Stannos must know that a new potential puppet arrived." he then grinned evilly, "With some help, he can be the perfect tool to use against that man."
...
Once he exited the building, he went into thought while wandering around, 'Okay, not a bad start...even if things did feel weird back there...And he was quick to throw me out of there...even more odd...this heretical noble might be the only other lead but he doesn't want me seeing him...which gives me more of a reason to go, if I can find him that is...' looking around.
"Oh my, are you the young man Lord Ruthven sent?" a maid walked up to him.
Reynold turned his head in a direction, finding a maid standing before him, "It depends whose asking...should I be concerned about who?" raising an eyebrow.
"Have you read the paper he gave you?" she asked with a smile as she sweatdropped.
He thought about it, blushing beet red when he realized he hadn't, "Uh...no...I didn't exactly gloss over on my way here, came by foot..." pulling it out, going over it for a minute until he frowned upon a name, "High Lord Regis...?" glancing up at her, "Is that who you sent you to me?"
"Yes." she nodded, "He thought that you were lost, that's why he sent me."
Compared to the other citizens, her eyes were full of life and her tone wasn't as monotone as the others.
The young knight nodded, "Okay then, that makes this a lot easier..." smiling, "If you could be so kind as to show me where he is, I'd appreciate it..." going into thought, 'She even seems livelier than most of the townsfolk here...perhaps this lord Regis can explain..."
"Please, follow me." and she began to walk.
At a strange estate...
Rey and the maid walked through the city for a while, until they reached a large estate with guards in strange armor, making him frown when they too seemed lively.
"What is this place...?" he muttered, looking around.
"This is the estate of Lord Regis." the maid answered as she opened the gate while smiling, "Let's not make him wait any longer. After all, you are a bit late"
He nodded nervously, "Yeah, I think I've kept him long enough," walking through the gates, following her in further...eyeing the guards they passed by, 'Intimidating but not unfriendly...very odd...' he told himself, as they neared the main house.
Some servants were trying to calm a strange winged creature.
Reynold nearly jumped when it nearly lounged out, calming himself after, "By the Goddess...that was...Is he friendly?" staring at with a worried expression.
"That's an Arcane Hippogryph." the maid pointed with a smile, "It would seem that the mating season is approaching and she entered in heat. But Lord Regis knows that she would be killed if he let her go."
The young knight nodded with an impressed grin, "I see, she's very pretty though, I'm actually kinda jealous,"
"Now then, let's head to Lord Regis, shall we?" she opened the door.
Rey nodded, stepping inside, before she closed the door behind them...
Inside of the manor was nicer than expected, with the few exceptions of crimson melted candles in the halls that mimicked blood by color, making the young knight feel uneasy...there were also very old photos in those halls, some looking more intimidating that the last...
'What kind of house is this? I don't recognize these figures at all, skin is even paler than normal...are these vampires?' glancing at the office door they were heading to, 'What kind of person is this lord Regis...? if he's got all of these...'
The maid simply opened the door a let Rey in.
Upon entering the room, Rey spotted another knight, stranger than the others, her skin was pale green almost, sporting dark armor.
'Okay...I'm sure that's an undead knight...but it seems like she's almost human, this mission is getting stranger and stranger...'
"Still, we must get them back from whatever is taking control." the knight argued.
"We'll discuss it another time." the man, most likely Regis, said before adding, "First, we must welcome our guest." he then turned to Rey, "It's nice to finally meet you." he looked at his eyes, "Not under the influence of whatever runs in the church."
Reynold gave him a good stare over, finding an older man in regal armor sitting at the desk with a more welcoming smile...
He gave a bow, "Hello there, I'm Reynold Von Musel, I was sent by Niall here to investigate what's been happening to the nobles here..." giving a smile, "It's good to finally meet you, my lord,"
"I'm Lord Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy." he presented himself before using his hand to point to the knight who was standing, "And this is my Knight Captain, Camillia Dio."
The young knight gave her nod, "A pleasure, Lady Camillia, Looking forward to working with you," before turning to Regis, "I wish I would've read that letter I got sooner, would've come here first instead of that church..." frowning at the thought, "Why...are their eyes like that...? so... empty...? even Feoh's citizens have livelier mood than most of everyone here..."
"Unfortunately, we don't know." Regis sighed, "I tried to see what's happening with some people, but they seem more like... puppets than humans." he then added, "But one thing is for sure, it began when the current Grand Priest began in Ur."
Rey narrowed his eyes, "The Grand priest of Ur...That would be Grand Priest Stannos, right? I've met him a couple of times when I was younger...my father didn't really trust him, especially around me and Troy... I'm sure it's the same now..." finger on his chin, "But what's the connection with him and this?"
"Everything began right after his first sermon." Regis pointed, "I don't know how things were inside the church at the time, but I'm sure that it was the first time the citizens of Ur became like this. But Swain said that if I tried to do something, Stannos will find a reason to attack me publicly."
The young knight rose an eyebrow, "Sermon you say? I think I just came from something like that earlier...it even on the extreme side with it..." going into thought, "From the way that sounds, it's almost as if their minds have been taken over...maybe I should partake the next time he gives one, see if he's the one causing this...but that still doesn't explain why other nobles have been getting attacked..."
"That isn't his doing." Regis sighed before leaning forward, "Before going forward, answer me this question; is Jehriko Swain a crow or a raven to you?"
Rey thought on that for a second, "Well, they're both birds of the same feather, but in Lord Swain's case...he's more of a watchful Raven than a crow,"
"Even if this is more or less the answer I was waiting for, there's a big difference between crows and ravens; crows live in a flock, a group. However, ravens live with one companion their entire life." Regis stated, "Have you ever wondered if Swain ever had some sort of lover?"
Rey frowned hard at that, "I never asked, actually...but I did wonder about that, he does have a maid, but I've never seen him with a lady other than, no,"
"Swain isn't that type of person." Regis pointed, "He's more or less refined, even in that regard. But talking more about this might bring his wrath upon me." he then took a deep breath, "About those attacks; the victims are left alive if they are merchants. But when it's nobles, they're killed with their guards. Some kills were really brutal..."
The young knight went into thought, "Interesting...it's almost like the killer's trying to make a point...if he's sparing the merchants, then...it has to be for a more personal reason..." nodding, "Has there been any recent victims...? perhaps I could reach out to one of their families, that would be a good start,"
"Considering how the people of Ur are, I doubt that it's a good idea." the lord sighed.
"How about the village of Luckwarden?" Camilla asked, "They are normal if we compare them to the people of Ur."
"And who..."
Regis didn't have time to finish his question as the head knight continued, "A merchant who was attacked two days ago."
"I see..." Regis nodded.
"Just the time to prepare Astris and-" Camillia began before stopping when she noticed that Rey was staring at her, "What're you looking at?"
Realizing he'd been staring, The young knight cleared his throat, "Nothing, I was just paying attention, I need every detail I can get, and your insight seems to be good," he replied.
In truth, that wasn't the only reason, but he would keep quiet on that...for now that was.
"Anyways, the sooner we move the better." Camillia pointed, "Give me three minutes and I'll have Astris ready to take flight."
Regis sighed before saying, "Fine, but be careful with the boy, he isn't as strong as you."
"Hey! I've already taken care of that pot that you wanted me to get to Geofu." Camillia argued.
"Just... be careful," Regis said again.
"You can count on me." with that, the head knight exited the room.
Rey watched her leave, sighing after, "She seems, nice...a little odd, but...nice...I'll head out and wait then, take care, sir," giving Regis a bow, before turning to leave.
Regis watched him leave and after making sure that he was out of range he sighed, "We must do something to stop Stannos."
"Come now, darling, you know that all you need to do is to say the word and I'll kill him for you." a green smoke emerged from the shadow of Regis, turning into a succubus.
"And risk losing you? Never." Regis countered.
"Aww~ you can't live without me?" she asked in a teasing manner as she sat on top of his desk.
"The moment we sealed our pact was the moment our fates became one." Regis pointed out, "Besides, I can no longer live without you."
"You seem to like succubi a lot." she pointed.
"I've been in love with one before... even if she wasn't that interested in me." Regis sighed before feeling her kiss.
"I'll never betray you, and you know that," she assured him.
"Yes, I know," Regis replied with a smile.
Back at Erdora...
The Salamander mages drew some runes on the ground and an arcane gate appeared.
"Let's head home." the mare proclaimed as she was the first to get through the magical gate.
The trio watched as people were going through one by one, Traysek sighing at the sight.
"Guess our Road trip's finally over, can't wait to get back to the house with this," He said, smirking at his new blade, "These few days have been something else..."
Erik nodded with a tired yawn, "You can say that again, I'm hitting the bed as soon as I get back, no joke..." rubbing his back, "Being on the goat mount was not as comfortable as I thought it would be..."
"I think I'm joining you in that department...after I get paid that is..." Record added in, turning to the two Kletzkrieg, "It was nice meeting you guys, especially you Dargo..."
The Redguard nodded to that, "Seriously, you guys have been more than cool," turning to the blushing Elf, "If you guys want to come over sometime, we're in the fifth district, house of wings," offering a fist bump to the archer, "Don't be stranger either, alright?"
Dargo simply nodded while mimicking Traysek before saying, "Hide the blade."
"I got it, I heard you guys the first time," The Redguard chuckled, "Don't want to start any problems, hopefully, I don't have to walk far with this on my back,"
Dargo got on his mount and walked through the gate.
"He's just a little shy." Endra pointed before looking at Recorder and then grinned, "Especially with a flower like her. No kidding, I would have gone for her, but I'm already spoken for." he then got on his mount and went through the gate.
After they went through, the trio were the last ones there...
"They were...nice, very nice...I wasn't expecting that," Erik commented with a grin, "One of them of them even had a crush on you,"
Recorder exhaled with a nod, "I got that too, and he's cute enough, I could see that happening,"
"Goes to show you, that not everyone in the kletzkreig operates the same, I suspect we'll meet even more...hopefully they're just as friendly," The Redguard added in, placing a hand on their shoulders, "Come on, our job isn't done yet until we see the pay...we'll be back one day, trust me, we'll have to be..."
And like that, the trio one by one, entered the portal...all smiles and no teeth...
They found themselves near the exiting gate they took when they departed. However, there were other female centaurs checking on Dynede, a purple feathered harpy hugging Endra, and a lot of people related to the caravan members... with the exception of Dargo who seemed to be walking in a direction.
Traysek grinned, "Back in the secret city...it feels good to be home," stretching his back, getting off the mount, "Much as I'm sure you've enjoyed your rides, it's time to give them back,"
"Enjoyed at first maybe...but my legs are sore again, take him," Recorder whined, getting down, and handing him the lead.
Erik did the same and got off, handing Traysek his, "I'm going to miss this goat, I was just getting warmed up to him," giving it's neck a gentle scratch.
"We'll get better mounts, these were after all temporary..." The captain reminded, walking them up to the elf that lent them, "Here you go, brought back as promised,"
The elf simply nodded before moving away with the mounts.
"So...what now? home and then the office? or the office first?" Erik asked, raising an eyebrow.
Traysek glanced at his back, "Guess we can head home first, not that I'm worried about who sees me with it, I just rather not deal with that issue right now..."
Recorder nodded in agreement, "Yeah, too soon to be walking around with that, on one hand, it would keep people from messing with you...but on another, it would bring some unwanted trouble, at least until you it wrap up..." glancing around nervously, "Honestly, I wouldn't even feel safe walking home with that,"
"My thoughts exactly," The Redguard said, building up a teleporting spell, "Maybe we'll find the other's home while we're at, find out how their job went..."
Like that, all three of them vanished from in front of the gate...
House of wings...
Outside, Yuriana was sweeping off the front of her house, putting the last of the dust and trash in the garbage, and taking an exhale...
'Done with that, so what else is there to clean...' the wench mused, 'dining room's already done, Inigo is handling the main halls and Lucien, the basement and living room, guess the only thing to do now is-'
But before she could finish processing that thought, three figures appear in front of her, startling the busty woman.
"Ah goddamn it!" she yelled at how suddenly they appeared until she got a good look, "Boss? Guys! I wondering when you'd get back!" offering them a smile.
Traysek took a deep breath, "Good to see you too Yuri, our contract had us out longer than we thought, five villages and each one more unique than the last...still we aren't exactly done, we still have yet to collect our money from Gronik, I'm just back to drop something off..."
"And that is...?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
Recorder chuckled, "His sword of 'overcompensation'" getting a scowl from the Redguard.
"Fuck you, that's NOT what's it called!" Traysek snapped with a sneer, "It's called 'Vul Dinok Jut' a true Dovah's blade..."
Yuriana frowned at that, "Sword?' what sword...?" moving behind him to find a scary stone blade there, "By the gods, look at the size THAT! Are those veins?! This thing comes with its own Erection, its even got A curve," she laughed.
"Seriously...? We're making these jokes now?" He deadpanned blinking at her.
The wench gave him a deadpanned stare back, "Okay, see it from my perspective...you're Redguard with a macabre, curved sword...with veins...the joke was already there,"
"Whatever, I'm going inside to put this thing up," Traysek sighed, shaking his head as headed into his house, "By the gods..."
Molten Gift District...
Dargo walked and opened the door only to find himself tackled by two younger Dark Elves.
"Oppa!" they both yelled in unison.
"I'm home... Canvi, Efrida." Dargo said as he tried to get on his feet.
"We missed you so much!" the boy said with a wide smile.
"You brought us something?!" the girl asked with an excited tone.
Dargo only nodded with a smile before taking out what he bought for them.
Troop Logistics building...
Gronik looked at some papers before looking at Garoka.
"Those components that you're asking for are quite... rare." Gronik pointed.
"C'mon! If I have to give away one of my Warships, I'd better get three more!" the warlord pointed as she reminded him of what was said before.
"We can ask some of our new allies from the west... but I don't know if we can get them." the imperial hero assured, 'Also, why building three warships?'
Suddenly there was a knock at his door, getting their attention...
"Oi Gronik? it's Traysek, we're done with that contract!" his voice echoed from behind it, "You in there? decent perhaps?"
"Come in!" Gronik replied, "We'll talk later."
The door opens, with Traysek, Erik, and Recorder walked in, noticing the orc woman who stared at them, as they made their way to the desk.
"Pardon our intrusion," He said to both Garoka and Gronik, "But we've come to tell you that the caravan trip went through without a problem, had some bumps in the road, but you know how these things go,"
"Yes, I know." Gronik nodded before taking a small bag and putting it on the table, "Since it's two days, the payment will be twenty Diamonds."
The Redguard rose an eyebrow, "Twenty diamonds? That's a hell of pay, thank you," taking the bag with a nod, "Pleasure doing business~ and speaking of that," smirking after, "If you get any more clients, refer them to our house...I run a personal business like this back home and I'm thinking of opening shop here, that would help tons and that's less stress for both you and the General to deal with...what say you?" raising an eyebrow with an offered handshake.
"I'll think about it." Gronik took Traysek's arm before smirking, "How about one that I can leave to you? Of course, I understand that you must be tired now." he then passed them a list of components, "Simply find fifty of those, and that's it."
The Redguard went over the list, "I see, fifty of each of these...okay then, only one problem..." glancing back up to him, "These Ore are foreign to me, where would I find them?"
"You can find them west of here." the Imperial replied, "Although, I don't know where exactly."
Traysek nodded, "I might know someone who does, okay then, I'll get to this whenever I can," standing back up, giving a bow, "And with that, I bid you a good day," before nodding towards the others, all of them heading out of the office.
When the door closed Garoka growled, "I know what you're trying to do."
"And what's that?" Gronik asked with an innocent smile.
"You want me to be thankful to them!" the warlord roared, "That will never happen!"
The imperial shrugged before saying, "That's up to you."
"Tch, you humans will always stay the same." with that she left the office.
Mission complete
Job Rating: A+
Back outside...
Traysek tossed the heft bag of diamonds up and down in his hand, "Not bad for a day's work, bag's even got some weight,"
"Not too different from Tamriel, I could get used to this," Erik commented with a grin.
"So what now? do we go home? go spend a bit?" Recorder asked, raising an eyebrow.
The Redguard shook his head, "Not yet, first we have to see what the other team got and dish out the cut that way, not to mention, we just got double what we were promised...for now, yeah, let's head home..."
And once again, they vanished from the spot...
Lord Regis Estate...
Camillia held a hand and used blood magic on a statue to bring it to life.
"There you go." she smiled before adding, "Glad to see you in one piece, Astris"
The creature gave a screech.
"Yeah, I know that I didn't clean you everyday... but I was busy."
The creature simply growled lowly.
"Fine! I'll give you some ore when we get back." Camillia sighed.
Reynold who had been standing there, blinked twice at her usage of blood magic, 'That kind of magic is a bit...dark...by the goddess I hope this goes well,' clearing his throat, "So, this is Astris...was that magic you used to wake him?"
She narrowed her eyes before asking, "Got a problem with that?"
Rey rose an eyebrow, "No, I didn't say it was...I've studied magic, but it's the first time I've actually seen blood magic,"
"Astris is a gargoyle, so I need to use blood magic to wake her." Camillia explained before smiling in a threatening manner, "Also, if you dare refer to Astris as 'Him', no one will ever refer to you as 'Him' when they'll be talking about you."
The young knight nervously gulped, "G-got it! My mistake, I didn't mean to get...her gender wrong..." he apologized, 'Why is she so hostile...? We haven't even started working together yet...!' shaking the thought out, "Anyway, are we ready to go? personally, I've never been to Luckwarden, so I don't know what to expect,"
"It's a run down village abandoned by the church." the head knight stated, "And no one claimed it because no one knows if a noble from Ur should intervene, or one from Feoh." she then got on the stone creature, "Let's get going. The sooner we end this, the sooner I can get back to the other investigation."
Not wanting to aggravate her further, Rey simply nodded, climbing aboard the gargoyle, and seating behind Camillia, "I'm ready whenever you are..."
"Let's get going then." with that, Astris jumped before spreading her wings: and taking flight, "It won't take very long. We'll be in Luckwarden in less than fifteen minutes."
Rey nodded, 'With how fast she jumped up, I'm not surprised...' clearing his throat, "That close? good, we won't have far going or coming back from there...here's hoping..."
And with that the beast soared in the sunset sky, giving a roar as she did...
In Thorne...
Royal Palace...
"War... such an interesting subject to bring with others."
There was a black-haired woman with a purple right eye while her left eye appears to have no sign of capacity to watch anything. Her attire consists of pitch-black armor, and two different pauldrons; the right one being at her seize while the left one is larger and appears to offer more protection to the area around her left shoulder. on her hands were clawed gauntlets. on her back was a red cape with what appeared to be a wolf on it.
"And it fits human nature, don't you think... General Esdeath?"
General Esdeath, a blue-haired woman in white military clothes smirked before saying, "Fights are for the strong."
"Yes... only the wolves can enjoy war at its purest form, while sheep reject it as it brings them misery." the woman in armor said as she smiled evilly.
"War is what shows who's strong from the weak." Esdeath nodded as she put her boot on the head of a dead high elf, "Not to mention that they'll try to come up with pitiful excuses to avoid war."
"They're cowards." the woman turned to Esdeath, "We must be brave for them."
"But how do you plan on triggering war everywhere, Marpesia?" Esdeath asked with interest.
"By recruiting our enemies to the cause." a smirk appeared on Marpesia's face.
Esdeath laughed before turning to someone else, "What do you say, Mad Dog?"
It was a blue-haired man with blood-red eyes who was smiling widely, "You know how to get my attention."
"A proof that war is the natural state of our species. And yet, they flee from it." Marpesia pointed out, "We have to stop this pathetic age of 'peace' as they call it."
"Boring and the way they act." the Mad Dog spat before adding, "We already got this place ready to explode on the others, but how about the rest?"
"We have to get them to pull their blades on each other, but it would be impossible as long as the Dark Queen is alive." Marpesia pointed.
"So we kill her and that's it?" the Mad Dog asked.
"It must be a message." Marpesia explained, "Without war, we will be stagnant at first, before decaying in weakness with time. All those claims of rightful justice are nothing but an excuse to wage war; either between two people, to between two kingdoms. We get stronger after each conflict, we find the will to evolve to survive against an enemy."
"Which is why we must begin without plans," Esdeath stated before being stopped by the woman in armor.
"First, we must set the stage." Marpesia smirked, "And Claudia Levantine is going to be the best pawn that we can use."
"How?" the Mad Dog asked.
"By having her attack Geofu when the rebels win," Marpesia answered.
Esdeath laughed before saying, "This is going to be interesting."
Chapter 16 end...
Big surprise there, huh? figured we needed more villains if we're going to be putting all these supporting cast and different heroes. I was a bit iffy on Esdeath at first, but somehow it rather fits...she'll be making an appearance as well as the warmonger and Azrael from Blazblue in future chapters... also because I know a few of you like the Gnoll Queen and outcast Orc, they too will be making more appearances...but at the right time... That said, It's time to answer reviews...
To whynot: So was I, but it couldn't have gone no other way... at least none of them got mauled for what they did to her tribe...stay tuned though, she'll make more appearances later on :)
To Alduinkiller: "Put them in their place" in what way exactly...? you do understand that trust is EARNED, not given, right? even if they are on the same side, that doesn't mean that kind of trust is going to be given to them...no matter how strong someone is...if they don't trust you, they won't trust you...so once again and if you can provide it...put them in their place in what way...?
To Cross: Honestly, my co-writer came up with that, but I'm glad you're vibing with the idea and the Gnoll Queen, (I was surprised she was liked on here...) look forward to her more in the future...stay tune :)
To Feastsofvalhalla: Thank you for the compliment and don't worry, the exiled orc is making a return in future chapters...have to after he gave a savage beating like that... And as for getting more attention, you flatter me...but I'd have to get to Night Unfurls level of good to even get mentioned on TV tropes, and I've lost followers before getting to this point, so Idk about all that, but I'm glad you like my man :)
To Guts and Toes: WTF? heeeellll naw he ain't no hero, no fucking way is he hero...there are just more villains with better motives out there, and they happen to be far more intimidating... but he is certainly no hero and neither are the dogs...trust me, they will get their just deserts when I get around to it...and when I do, it'll be epic :) stay tuned...
And with those out of the way, may the gods watch over your stories my friends, and stay safe :)
