Chapter 7
A/N: I really hope that you guys enjoyed that last chapter. Sometimes I feel like I can't quite get the right vibe of Lorelai though. I try so hopefully I did it justice. This chapter is mainly gonna focus on the other characters and how their dealing with all of this new information. So prepare to see a lot of Logan, Tristan, Colin and Finn in this chapter. Enjoy. Don't forget to read, review, and favorite… Please.
Colin POV
I couldn't believe that this was happening. Rory had gotten drunk the night before because both Tristan and I were in love with her. But she had made a good point. There was no reason that Logan and I couldn't work through this. We'd been friends for far too long. When I got to my office, I sat down and I dialed Logan's number. "Hello?" He said when he answered the phone.
"It's me." I said.
"Rory gave you a lecture?" Logan asked me.
I leaned back in my chair. "Kind of. She give you one?" I asked.
"Yeah. She made me realize that we're both being kind of stupid. She told me that it was stupid of us to end a friendship over her, especially since I married your ex." Logan said.
"She is logical." I said. "I'm sorry you got dragged into the middle of all of… this."
"It is a mess. Tristan called me drunk last night." He told me.
"Rory called Finn drunk."
"Yeah she definitely sounded that way when I called her." He said.
"I had no idea about them when I told her, you gotta believe me." I told him.
"I believe you. I'm gonna tell you something and I don't want you to take it personally." Logan said.
"Okay…I will do my best." I said.
He sighed. "Tristan and Rory went to high school together, before he ended up at Military school. I've heard the story from both sides but the way he tells it, she was the new girl and he was the playboy. He was the high school version of me at Yale. The way she tells it, he was infatuated with her because she was the shiny new toy. He dubbed her the Mary. She hated the nickname the entire time that she was at Chilton. Then something happened. Her first boyfriend broke up with her on their 3 month anniversary because she didn't say I love you." Logan tells me.
"Dumbass." I muttered.
"Yeah. So, the next night she goes to her first Chilton party with Lane. Shortly after she got there, Tristan got dumped by his girlfriend. So, he ended up in Madeline's music room tapping on the piano. Rory comes in after seeing him get dumped and starts a conversation with him. The next thing he knows she kisses him. When she pulled back from the kisses, she was crying and she ran away from him." Logan said.
"She ran?" I asked.
"Yeah. The way she tells it, it had only been 24 hours since Dean had broken up with her and she hadn't expected to kiss anyone so soon, especially Tristan." Logan said.
"So how did they get from there to here?" I asked him.
"Well, they both had different versions, but from what I gather they tried to become friends. Rory knew that he didn't really have anybody he could call a true friend, so she tried to be that for him. And then he screwed it up." He said.
"How?" I asked.
"After a few months, Tristan thought that enough time had passed since her breakup so he thought that he'd take a chance. He bought tickets to see her favorite band thinking that it would be a good first step for them. However, the day he asked her to go to the concert, he mentioned it to some people and then Paris confronted her in the middle of the hallway. Rory tried to deny that she was going to the concert with Tristan but Paris wouldn't hear. Things only got worse from there. When Tristan tried to talk to Rory, she wanted nothing to do with him. So, he stole the books that she was carrying and she walked away from him. When she walked out of the school that day, Dean was standing there waiting for her. Of course, he was pissed that Tristan had her books and they got into an argument, which ended with her screaming that she hated Tristan. Dean tried to leave, but Rory stopped him by yelling that she loved him. Tristan was crushed." Logan said.
"That's horrible. I can't even imagine." I said. "What else?"
"A month or two into the new school year, Tristan, Rory and Paris were matched up with a couple of other people to do a Shakespeare performance in front of the entire school. Well, he ended up pulling a stupid prank with these idiots he was hanging out with and the day of the performance his dad pulled him out of school to send him to Military school. He showed up at the school. Rory was the only one that he said goodbye to." Logan told me.
"That's crazy." I said.
"Yeah it is. It wasn't until after Rory and I broke up at her graduation that I found out that we had both been in love with the same girl. He only mentioned her by the nickname that he'd given her and I never told him her name. None of this was even talked about until after they ran into each other in Boston." He said.
"So, are you telling me that she's gonna pick him over me?" I asked him.
He sighed again. "Honestly? I'm not sure. You know Rory, her dad wasn't around much when she was growing up. She's had some…issues when it comes to guys. Hell, I was the first guy that she'd ever lived with. I think for Rory, she has problems expressing what she really feels. I just want you to be prepared for what might possibly happen." Logan told me.
"Thanks." I said.
Tristan POV
I felt like shit. I mean sure, I noticed that there was some tension between Rory and Colin when we walked into the restaurant last night but I never imagined that it would be because they'd been hooking up for the last couple of years. I think the worst part though was when he dropped Rory off last night. We'd ended up fighting about him. I didn't want to fight with her, especially about Colin. That was the last thing that I wanted to do. But I was hurt when I asked her about her feelings for him, then me. She couldn't give me a straight answer. So when I left, I headed back to my apartment and I drowned myself in a bottle of scotch. Then I called Logan drunk. God! I was never gonna live this one down.
When I walked into the law firm this morning, Christopher Hayden was waiting for me. He was glaring and he was pissed. Yep. I was in for it. He had me follow him into his office. I sat in the chair in front of his desk while he sat behind his desk. "You don't look happy." I said.
"I'm not. What happened?" He asked me.
"Can you be more specific?"
"Well, let's see. I got a phone call from my ex-wife at 2 a.m. telling me that my daughter is leaving town for a few days to clear her head. What the hell happened?" Christopher asked me, slightly raising his voice.
I ran a hand over my face. "There was a complication." I said.
"What kind of complication?" He asked.
"Since shortly after that weekend in Boston, she's been casually dating Colin McCrae." I told him.
"I didn't expect that." Christopher said.
"It gets worse." I told him.
"How can it possibly get worse?" He asked.
"Apparently, he's been in love with her since they met at Yale." I told him.
He ran a hand over his face and sighed. "This could cause problems." He said.
"I know."
"Does she have feelings for him?" He asked.
"I don't know. I asked her if she loved him, she didn't know. I asked her if she loved me, she didn't know. I got mad and I left." I told him.
"Knowing how much Rory is like Lorelai, she probably got drunk after you left. We're going to have to tread carefully with this." Christopher said.
"Is it going to affect anything?" I asked.
"I'm not sure." He said. "Either way when she finds out… she isn't going to be happy. In fact, she's probably going to be pissed."
"So we wait?" I asked.
"Yes, we wait." He said.
Finn POV
I was worried. Everything was falling apart. Of course I knew about Rory and Colin. They both had needed someone to talk to but I never told the other that I knew. Everything was fine…they were both happy. Then Logan's wedding happened. Logan had walked in on Rory and Colin making out in a coat closet. I mean, its not like he could actually get mad at them… especially since he'd just married Steph. Things got bad after that. Rory and Colin didn't hardly speak to each other. Logan quit talking to Colin altogether. It's been horrible. Things seemed to be getting better between Rory and Colin when everything happened with Colin's dad. Rory stayed by his side for days. Part of me thought that things were really going to work out for them this time. And then I got that god-awful phone call last night. Rory was drunk and she called me. That's only happened one time the entire time that I've known her. And that was the night of Honor's wedding. When I got that call, I wasn't sure what was going to happen. I mean, there was the obvious fact that she was drunk… but then she started rambling, wanting to know if I knew anything about what was going on. When I asked her about it she told me that Colin was in love with her and did I know. I mean, of course I knew but it was a fact that Colin and I had kept from Logan because when Colin first realized it Logan was still pursuing Rory, pre-commitment. Then Rory starts ranting about there being two guys. I had no idea what that was about. When I got off the phone with her, I headed over to Colin's. I questioned him about what was going on. He told me that Rory had shown up to dinner with Logan's cousin Tristan DuGrey. He said that Tristan hadn't stayed long, claiming that he had to meet his gradfather (but we both knew that was a lie). Colin told me that after Tristan left, he and Rory had a few drinks and he told her that he was in love with her. That he had been for a while. As he's telling me this… my conversation with Rory is suddenly starting to make sense.
Sitting in my office now, I finally figure out what is going on. Rory has feelings for the both of them. I pull my phone out of my pocket and quickly dial the all too familiar number. "Hello?"
"Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm currently sitting on a beach with a margarita. Why?"
"I need to talk to you…in person." I say.
"I'll be back in a couple of days. I just needed to get away and clear my head about everything."
"I understand. When you get back, call me first. I think that I can provide some insight to the situation." I tell her.
"I can do that. See you in a couple of days, Finny."
A/N: Wow. Wasn't sure where that chapter was headed. I literally sat there for about 20 minutes just staring at my computer screen trying to figure out how to start it. What do you think Christopher and Tristan are up to? It can't be good though, right? And Finn? What insight could he have?
