Chapter 21
Tracking the Dogs...
At the Inn
Luckwarden
Rey was lying in bed, finally tired after the events of today...what his partner did and how unforgiving she was about it, making him grit his teeth. Made even worse after the fact he tried to continue gathering answers and people either shouted obscenities at him or simply refused to talk.
Either way, it left the young knight drained, which brings us to now...
He took a deep sigh, staring out of the window, 'I don't get it...why...? you joined us, but you actually hate us? what is your endgame?' he mused, turning his gaze up, the young knight then began to recount all the corruption he's seen during his time as a holy knight, things he was told to forget about, to keep quiet on...however for all of that, he still tried to do good, to change the public's opinions on them, how wrong he was... his brother was a good example on how not to be a knight, but there were many just like or even worse than that, he even he had to admit himself, that there were times where he'd thought he'd have to hurt his comrades over the things they've done to others...
In fact, he's always been quick to point it out and stop injustice, the philosophy his parents taught him, to never let it fester...to always give back and to the unfortunate, hard as it's been, he at least accomplished one of those goals, despite being ridiculed over it.
He turned over in deep thought, putting his past experiences with the words of Camillia, coming to an understanding...
'I get it...I truly do...you want to help the world and you'll even join THEM to do it...' he thought, remembering what Greil did for Erdora, 'No doubt, he's gotten to you too...if we are to have peace, true peace...we cannot tread from the light, darkness cannot rule the kingdoms, I understand, but with what they've done...it's going to take more than being on the same side to change that...' furrowing his brow at a thought, 'perhaps I'll see Camillia tomorrow, and ask from a neutral point...that might get me an answer,'
And with that he closed his eyes, passing out with a light snore.
The next day...
Frondas
9:00 am
Yamakhroz, Golden Hand district...
In this part of the city, it was nearly identical to that of the holy cities, minus the knights with plenty of elven guards walking around in gold armor, on patrol. Traysek took everything in as he made his way through it, whistling at how pretty some of the houses looked as he passed them.
'Might decide to get a place here one of these days, it's beautiful over here,' he hummed in thought.
With his crew currently eating breakfast or testing out their new toys, he had some free time to spare, the first thing the Redguard did was check the board for anything new, and to his surprise, there was nothing on there...his next thought was checking up on Greil, since helping him buy the mount, he did say he would check out that new armor of his. Traysek was directed to the district after talking to a guard about their General's whereabouts...that was the easy part, finding his actual house...not too much.
'They all too nice, but which one is his house?' frowning passing by them, spotting one of the golden guards sitting on a bench, seemingly off duty 'Perfect, maybe he'll know...' approaching the elf, "Excuse me? hello there~ I'm looking for General Greil, I was told he was in this district. Do know which house he's in or manor?"
"The General already left for work." the Dark Elf replied, "With some luck, you might get to him before that he leaves for the Heavenly Sword district."
Traysek frowned, "I missed him? damn, which way did he go?"
"Go straight up until you find a tunic vendor then turn on your left." the Dark Elf replied, "That's the faster way to get out of the Golden Hand district. From there, you need to take a couple of staircases, go through some districts and you'll find the Heavenly Sword district."
The Redguard nodded, "Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for those," with a nod, turning and heading in the direction of.
Once he turned by the tunic vendor, he found Greil walking toward the Staircases.
Traysek grinned a bit, 'Well, that was easier than I thought, let's see what the big guy's up to today...' making his way towards him, "Oi Greil, good to see you, you're a tough guy to find,"
Greil turned and found Traysek walking toward him, "Captain, I didn't know that you were a morning person. After all, sailors aren't the type to wake early when they aren't navigating."
"That's because those guys usually drink a lot the night before, if we had, I wouldn't be up so early," He chuckled, "With no contracts today, the Arena's closed until later, I decided to kill some time today by hanging out, maybe see that new armor you've been talking up,"
"You mean this one that I'm wearing right now?" Greil smirked as he fully turned to face the Dragonborn, "This one might be harder to break if we compare it to my old armor."
The Redguard whistled with an approving nod, clicking a button on his scouter, "Very nice, and from the readings I'm getting, it's up there with Daedric or even Dragonbone in comparison, I'm almost jealous," with a smirk, before noticing strange glowing on parts of it, "I notice you've got something in them? are these enchantments or Runes?"
"That's the little secret mark that makes Aklyn's weapons and armor to be of top quality." Greil replied, "In fact, he may be the best smith this world has ever seen."
"I see..." Traysek began with, clicking the button again, turning it off, "I might have to meet this blacksmith one of these days, I got a set he could put those on... if he's willing to work with me that is,"
"I doubt that he'll accept to work for you." Greil shook his head, "He'll only work for me and the Deathbringers... well, I did have to pressure him a little to teach the Reaper a little of his craft. Which means that I won't be able to do the same thing without having him quit working for the city."
Traysek nodded, "So he's more personal, I see, reminds me of a guild that had their own personal smith, good thing I learned how to do it myself," he chuckled, "Still, the runes bit is new, I'll have to look more up on those to get that down,"
Greil laughed before saying, "They may offer their services, but I doubt that they're ready to pass on their craft unless it's to their apprentices. You see, they know that humans can enchant their armor and weapons, but I doubt that humans know runecraft due to their... madness against it over the last two millennials. Which is why they take their apprentices with great care, to make sure that their craft is under good care." he then thought for a bit before saying, "As for any book... there's nothing that can be found about the craft. Maybe some books can tell you the story of runecraft, but the only way to know more about runecraft is through the masters themselves, and their lips are sealed."
"So until I find someone, I'm locked out of that, enchantments it is," The Redguard shrugged, "I'm sure they've got new ones to mess around with, especially if they know we use them in place of,"
"If you think that your enchantments are compatible with how we make armor, then you're free to do as you wish." Greil then added, "However, don't accuse the makers if your methods degrade the equipment you get... well, that's what the Reaper told me, she pointed that this world's smithing techniques are really good, which makes her world's technique look like childish attempts to make something. She also tested the fortification technique and found that it degraded the weapons she bought from here." he cleared his throat, "But I digress... let's head to my office, we can talk more there."
Traysek glanced around until nodded, "Sure, why not? I need to get a better feel of the districts anyway," giving a small smile, "Lead the way,"
At Luckwarden...The same day...
Reynold woke up with a yawn, getting up with a stretch, throwing on his armor and grabbing his sword, and putting it on his belt before leaving the room.
When he made it downstairs, he heard how lively the patrons were putting a confused expression on his face...
'Wonder what's got them so happy?' before making it to the bar, "Excuse me, are you serving breakfast here?"
The bartender turned from happy to sour after looking at Rey, "Pay up front."
The young knight sighed, laying down a decent bag of coins on the table, "I'll take the eggs, toast, and coffee, I won't linger," nearly monotone.
The bartender took the bag before going to the back to get the food.
"I've heard that someone important is going to come here." a young woman said to her friend.
"He's already here!" the other woman said.
"Really?!"
"He already began to see to the rebuilding of some houses, and help to get our crops to grow better than before." the second woman pointed.
"He's so handsome, even if he's a litter older than me." the first one said dreamily.
"Aren't you engaged to someone?" the second one asked with shock.
"It's not like I can get him either." the first one sighed before adding, "I think that he's already married and with a kid."
"I wanna go see him right now." and they both bolted out of the inn.
Rey rose an eyebrow at their rush, scratching his head, 'Who are they talking about? I'd say the captain, but I don't think he's married...and if Greil they would've said something about a beast, so who could it be?'
Minutes go by, and a waiter brings out his food, seemingly unhappy to do it.
"Uh, thank you," Rey simply said, with a nod.
"Just eat and don't talk to me." the bartender left.
At the same time, the door opened and an orange-haired young man entered with what seemed to be a half Dark Elf by his side. Alongside them, the elder of the village.
"Are you sure that you don't want that statue in the middle of the village?" the young man asked.
"You don't have to worry, Lord Gronik, if this is the sacrifice needed to help the village, dispose of it." the old man pointed, "As for the materials, we will pay with the gold we held of sending to both Feoh and Ur."
"You don't have to go that far." the man named Gronik chuckled lightly as he went to the bar, "Something to eat please, we didn't get to take our breakfast."
"Right away!" the bartender's attitude was the opposite of when he talked with the young knight.
The young knight began to eat, pausing when he heard that, scowling, 'I already hated this town, and to prove their disloyalty further...they're taking down the statue...is he in league with Greil? must be if they're giving him that much respect...' narrowing his eyes 'I'll eat slow, but only to hear this out...I'll leave once it's done and over,' biting into the toast.
"So... about the workers..." the elder began only to get cut by the woman.
"We'll send the best that we have." she said with a smile, "Dark Elf architects, some Salamander scholars, Minotaur and Orc workers and finally some people to get this village well guarded."
Some people began to tear up after hearing this.
"But you still didn't say the price." the elder pointed.
"I guess that having the caravan passing without problem is enough of a price." Gronik smiled, "You people seemed in a bad state... well, it's better than that time when you were left in the open to the monster and mercenaries' attacks."
"Your help was the most welcome that day." the Elder said with a thankful smile.
Rey quickly finished the toast, moving to the eggs, 'better finish up, the more of this I listen to, the sicker I get...selling yourselves to the monster army, there couldn't be any shame lower...' speeding up his eating.
The door burst open and a bolt flew straight to Gronik.
"Daddy! Look at what I found!" it was a small and cute Dark Elf that has Gronik's green eyes and was wearing a dress made of dragon scales and green leaves. In her hand was a rabbit, "Can I keep it?"
Gronik simply laughed as he patted her head, "Only if you promise to keep a good eye on it. After all it will become your responsibility."
"Yaay!" the girl beamed as she was hugging the rabbit.
"What a lovely daughter you have." the elder smiled, "You must be proud of her."
"Of course!" Gronik showed a lot of pride in his tone.
Upon seeing the little elf child hugging the rabbit, it put a smile on the holy knight's face, 'Must be his daughter, cute kid, but his wife isn't a dark elf...strange...might be from another wife or lover,' before shrugging it off, going back to his nearly finished food.
"Here's your breakfast, sir." the Bartender brought two trails of meatloaf, eggs with grilled onions on the sides, what seems like a chocolate pie, and two mugs of juices, "I didn't know that there was a third one." the Bartender didn't lose time and brought a big cup of orange juice.
"Thank you." Gronik thanked them as they began to eat.
At the same time, an old man exited the room area and went to the bartender.
"Ethan! I was waiting for you." the Bartender smiled as he gave the man a large bag, "There's enough bread and seasoning for the meat of whatever you can hunt."
"Thanks." the man, Ethan, nodded before looking at a dog that was beside him, "Let's go, Baldur."
The dog barked twice before following the man out.
The Holy knight watched him leave, before glancing at his own breakfast, not looking as good, in fact, the eggs were kinda burnt, making his wince, 'I really...hate this village...it's no wonder we stopped our support here...' downing the coffee, even that was bitter but he didn't care, he was tired of being in there, and had work to do," once he was done, looked around, unable to spot Camillia, standing up 'I don't see her, and I'm not sticking around in here with these glares...' standing up and making his way to the door.
Outside, he found a large armored Gryphon sleeping.
Rey went wide-eyed spotting the beast, 'That's a huge Gryphon...is it Gronik's, seems to be, but why's he got it out here and no one's freaked out yet,' raising an eyebrow, before shaking his head, walking to a bench, taking a seat, sighing, 'Guess I'm on my own, I don't know where the horned man has gone and it's not like I'll be able to gain that information again, without threatening to break something...what do I do?' going into thought, 'These people won't talk to anyone that's a holy knight...the only way I'd be able to get anything done is if...' eyes going wide at a realization, glancing down at his armor, 'Is not to be dressed as a holy knight, they hate anyone wearing this...if I can disguise myself, and do something about the hair, I'll be able to get somewhere here...maybe even where he's gone...' spotting an alleyway, smirking, 'Good place to change...' before quickly making his way there, hopefully unseen.
Once he got there, he started removing pieces of armor from the gauntlets to the greaves and then the main torso and legs. leaving what he had under it, which was chainmail, changing into more civilian clothes, wearing them over the under-armor, he then took his hand and messed it his hair, turning into a spiky mess, before bringing out a charcoal stick and grinder, crushing it down into a powder, 'If I remember exactly, I was taught how to use charcoal as hair dye by lady Claudia, she passed it down after the siege on the Centaurs,' smirking as he liquified it, taking one more good look around, before pouring some into his hair, rubbing it in until his hair turned jet black, pulling out a comb and styling it into a fringe hairstyle.
'Okay...this stuff should hold but not too long, I'll need to be quick about the information... can't ask a holy knight, but...' smirking to himself, 'people will to a random traveler or a hunter...this should be easier now...' leaving the sword, but hiding the dagger on his clothing, exiting the allyway, leaving the armor in a bag, 'I'll be back for those when this is done...'
Growls could be heard as he found the dog that was with Ethan behind him.
Now in disguise, Rey cleared his throat as he approached quietly, trying not to sound like a holy knight upon meeting him.
"Baldur! Where're you, boy!" Ethan's sound could be heard as the dog barked louder, which brought the attention of the man, "There you are." he then looked at Rey, "What're you doing here kid?" he then noticed the armor, "That's-" his eyes widen for a bit before saying, "You'd better get away from it, only blood comes from an armor like this, and I speak of experience."
'It worked, good...keep going...' The disguised Rey nodded, "I agree there, I'm not too much of a fan of the Tincans myself, beat my father once because we couldn't make a quota on time for crops, had to take over for days..." In a sullen tone, "That said, my name is Trevor, and I'm looking for help on dealing with raids on my families land, my parents tried to call for these guys but they refused to help, no surprise there, heard there was someone here that could,"
"Looking for help, huh?" the old man eyed him carefully before saying, "The name's Ethan, but I was known as Lorley while wearing that piece of garbage." he snorted, "The boy's here is Baldur. Been my friend for the last ten years, good at sniffing them out. Must found it, which means that I need to warn the elder that one of them is hiding here... but that will have to wait until later, I still need to go around trading."
'Trevor' nodded, "Well then, don't let me keep ya, I'll ask around," turning to the armor, "As for the dumbass that left that, he'll appear sooner or later, they are rather proud of their "service" after all," rolling his eyes.
"Ask for who?" Ethan asked, "Maybe I know him."
The young man put a hand to his chin, "I was told there was a hero around these parts, someone who REALLY helps and doesn't demand much, I tried asking the dogs but they wanted my mother as payment, I wasn't willing to do business with them after that, as one can understand, which brings me here,"
"What else do you know about him?" Ethan asked again.
"Not much, only that he's the fiercest of warriors, not known for showing mercy to crooked nobles and holy knights, seems like my kinda guy," with an excited grin, "Apparently the only description I know is that he bears horns on his helm, but I haven't...had any luck with finding such a man,"
"You're in luck, 'cause he's on my way." Ethan pointed with his thumb, "Just follow me, kid."
'Trevor' widened his eyes, "You're going to him now? That's Awesome! I'll tag along for sure, two's better than one!" with a nod before remembering the dog, "Three I meant, three" Following him, 'By the goddess that worked...! I don't think he would've been too talkative had I remained in the armor, the hair even helped... a good thing I crushed enough charcoal to make more in case it starts wearing...I'll keep this going until I meet him, for now...I'm Trevor the wanderer, seeking help from a hero...I'll have to come back for the armor once I have the info I need...'
"Come now, boy." Ethan said to the dog, "And don't bite the lad."
The dog growled fiercely at 'Trevor' before following Ethan.
'Okay...sniffing them out, right...gotta do something about the scent,' reaching into his backpack, coming out with mint and pine leaves, 'Good thing I've come prepared...' rubbing them on his neck, hands, legs, face, and even the crotch while a distance away, before catching up, not hearing a growl, 'this should last for a while, but once I start sweating...'
...
After a while, they found the man standing next to fresh corpses.
"Here he is." Ethan pointed to the man who had his guard lowered.
'Trevor's' eyes went wide, with the number of corpses there, 'by the goddess, more than last time, is this guy trying to beat his score? no...calm down Rey, get what you're looking for and get out of here...' approaching him, stopping at a good distance " 'Ello there, I'm Trevor the wanderer, and I've been looking for someone like you for quite some time..." giving a respectful bow, "From what I see, you gave the tin cans and their masters here quite the thrashing, look like they didn't stand a chance," with a grin.
"Hver í Helheim ertu? (Who the hell are you?)" the man asked before narrowing his eyes and his hand began to tighten on the weapon, "Og hvers vegna minnir rödd þín mig á þennan veikburða riddara? (And why does your voice remind me of that weakling knight?)"
'Trevor' frowned, turning to Ethan, "What did he say? Can you understand him?"
"No... however, from the way he's holding his weapon, he doesn't like you too much." Ethan pointed, "If I could understand him, I could have known what was wrong with him."
'Trevor' nodded, "Well, we just walked upon him during his...work...I'll try a nicer approach," holding his hands up, "If you're worried about me being one of those knights, I can assure you, I'm far from being one, couldn't pass the test to even become one, so if we could...take it easy with the hostility, I'm up to chat,"
"Það er aðeins ein leið til að vita hvort þú sért eins. (There's only one way to know if you're the same.)" the man took a sword and threw it at the feet of 'Trevor', "Taktu það upp, drengur. (Pick it up, boy.)"
"Maybe he wants to see if you're worth his time." Ethan crossed his arms and sat down, "This promises to be good."
'Trevor' gulped, 'incorrect, I think he's trying to figure me out through my style... not good, especially if he's already suspecting me...' picking up the sword, about to take his stance, until he remembered how the crew wielded weapons, relaxing the sword to the side with one hand, 'This is their stance, but...with the moves, it shouldn't be too much to tell,'
"Bring it on anytime!" The young man challenged, hardening his footing.
"Til orrustu! (To battle!)" the man raised his humongous weapon with one hand and swiftly turned which caused the weapon to go from a down strike to a horizontal strike.
Upon seeing this before, 'Trevor' quickly leaped parried the blow to the side while side-stepping, and with a spin, struck back at the horned man, jumping back to gain distance, 'without armor, I'm far more mobile, I'll have to depend on that to win this time...' zoning on him with a powerful thrust.
The man dodged to the left while spinning with his weapon which caused a cut on 'Trevor'.
The young man slid back with a fresh cut, wincing at the pain, before taking his 'stance' again, 'That hurt...but I can't show him I'm done!' Rushing at him again, but instead of swinging at him, he evaded with duck, swinging low as he dodged forward going past him, smirking when he struck one of his legs, leaving a cut.
The man narrowed his eyes before planting his sword "Hættu að láta eins og þú berjist svona! Ertu að móðga mig með því að fela þig?! Ég get sagt að þú ert að ljúga! (Stop pretending that you fight like that! Are you insulting me by hiding yourself?! I can tell that you're lying!)"
"Seems like he caught up to you." Ethan said as he walked forward, "You're familiar with your sword, but it's not your style, and..." he looked at Baldur who began to Growl again, "I have an idea of what's going on."
'Trevor' went to protest, but at this point with the growling dog, and the fact that the warrior stopped attacking him, he knew he was caught, sighing in defeat, sticking the sword into the ground with a guilty look, "You knew huh?" in his normal accent, slowly "Yeah, I'm the knight from before...but I did not come here to arrest you or insult you...I had to look like anyone else but me...I know how you people feel about us...and with our track record...it's easy to understand it..." grabbing a waterskin and pouring on his head, the dye washing away, revealing the silver-white hair underneath, "Hello again, last time I tried this...you attacked me, didn't give me much to speak on..." taking a knee, "Please...I do not wish to fight you...you're clearly stronger than me...I'm just here, under lord Regis to figure out why you chose the targets you chose...after that, I'll leave...you have my word," remaining kneeling.
"You're like every other Holy scum, full of lies." Ethan said with anger in his face, "Deceiving and lying. I'm happier for leaving them behind... after slaughtering them during what you call the day of the Unholy Knight." he then walked and gave the man a bag with bread and fish before continuing, "Come boy, we don't need to stay with someone like him."
The horned man simply left with the bag, not acknowledging the young knight as more disappointed in him.
Rey gritted his teeth, feeling something well up, something...dark.. as purple aura surrounded him for a moment, before he took a calming breath, dissipating the aura, before walking off back towards the city...
'I've had it...I'm not going to stick around these lands any longer, whatever game you want to play Camillia, do it yourself...I hate this mission, I hate the people of the village, I hate what my comrades did, and mostly, You...!' A dark voice growled in his head, that aura slowly returning.
In Yamakhroz, Heavenly Sword district...
Both Greil and Traysek entered the office and Traysek noticed the numerous books of strategy and battle tactics on the desk.
"Now, is there something specific that you wish to know?" Greil asked as he sat behind the desk.
The Redguard thought about it until he remembered something...
'You are responsible for the death of Melia, her sister is not as forgiving as the general...'
"Actually...is there...somebody I should be VERY wary of while I'm here? like in a...vengeful sense...? not that I'm worried but, I'm not fan out of getting from nowhere, been there done that," Rubbing the back of his neck.
"I see you've heard of Maki." Greil sighed before adding, "I spoke to her, and made sure that she leaves you alone. Hopefully, she would be around the places where you don't live."
Traysek nodded, "That's...reassuring...but you never know where we'll end up, any specifics on appearance?" with a rose eyebrow.
"Except about the fact that she's a Dark Elf, she has an eyepatch, wields a halberd, and has quite the temper." Greil listed before adding, "If she does anything to you, inform me. I'll deal with her personally."
Traysek waved him down, "It'll be nothing I can't handle, my friends on the other hand, yeah for certain..." frowning at his himself, "As for the Melia thing...I didn't want to do that, I really didn't...I only wanted to know if there were any survivors left or any more like her there...She thought we wanted something else and ignited herself..." eyes shadowing over "Either way, I would've let her go, we had no reason to keep her prisoner or even kill...just wished things went differently," with a sad smile.
"Captain, it wasn't your fault; you knew nothing about this world and you thought that you were doing something good." Greil smiled, "It was my fault... I was the one who put her there, even knowing how some Kletzkrieg could be. Of course, I didn't know that you would go there... another proof that I need to get better at planning these sorts of attacks."
"Guess we both have things to work on before it's time, " He chuckled, "Thanks for the heads up though, I'll keep an eye out, and pass the news to my crew so they can be aware as well,"
At the same moment, a Dark Elf footsoldier entered, "Sir, two messages arrived for you!"
"At ease." Greil looked concerned as the Dark Elf gave him two sealed scrolls.
"One is an urgent message from Ulak village while the second scroll has the name of the candidates that want to join the Kletzkrieg." the Dark Elf said, still showing signs of tiredness.
Greil narrowed his eyes, "Urgent message?"
"From what I heard the Black Dogs took a girl from there." the Dark Elf answered.
The Redguard went wide-eyed, remembering that place, and the large orc there, "I remember that village, our third place to stop," turning to Greil, "They tried to do it the first time while we were there, to the pale orc with crimson streaks,"
"I heard of him from Garoka." Greil then went through thoughts, "Maybe I should dispatch a unit... or maybe send in adventurers..."
Traysek smirked, "Or...we could go, I know that village and we do have new hardware to try out," widening the smirk, "And the best part is, it beats you having to brief someone new to it, just throwing it out there," with a shrug.
"I see..." Greil sighed before saying, "Well then, I do believe that you're going to need time to prepare yourself, right?"
"Of course, I'll need time to fill the others on what we're doing, and to let them train for a bit before heading out, won't need a mount this time," Traysek said, standing up, "As for the payment, don't worry about it, you did a couple of things for me without expecting it back, I can return the favor,"
"I can't have you do that without a reward." Greil pointed before taking a bag from his office, "To make sure that you don't reject it later, I'll give it right now." he then threw it to the Dragonborn.
Traysek caught it and felt the weight and grinned, "Twenty-five... that'll do, thank you, I'll be back when it's done," leaving, closing the door behind him.
In the streets, both Endra and Dargo were walking with Endra looking tired like he ran all night without stopping.
"I... I'm not going to move for the next year..." Endra was about to fall.
"You don't work a lot." Dargo pointed.
"How can you be fine after what we went through!" Endra snapped, "And to make it worst, you worked twice as I did!"
"It wasn't that hard," Dargo said, getting a shocked look from his comrade.
...
Once he left the building, The Redguard made his way back to his house, pocketing the gems. He spotted the staircase out of the district, took it and went down them.
...
Now, Dargo was holding Endra over his shoulder like a sac of potatoes. As they were about to use a set of stairs, Dargo saw Traysek nearing them.
Traysek frowned at the elf carrying his buddy over his shoulder, "Hey Dargo, gods, you look like death warmed over, is that Endra you're carrying...?"
"It was fine." Dargo waved it off, "Only Endra is dramatizing it."
"Shut up..." Endra mumbled with an over-tired tone.
The Redguard laughed, "I don't think he agrees, your mission in the desert was that hard? I thought we had it harder with the metal we were carrying," with an eyebrow raised, "At least I've never had to carry Recorder over my shoulder..." smirking at the exhausted kletzkreig, "You are being outdone by a lady, sir...how do you feel?" jokingly.
"Try dealing with the Gnoll Packleader for a change..." was the only response Endra gave.
"You really need to work your muscles more." Dargo deadpanned.
"Oh? you guys met Ashar? so did we... Learned about what a few of our friends did over there too," Traysek sighed with a headshake, "She...wasn't too friendly when we met, at first anyway, after chatting we worked something out, supposed to be going back over there soon for a blood pact," Raising an eyebrow, "What'd she make you guys do? lift weights?"
"Pull blocks of rocks through the desert." Dargo pointed like it was a normal thing.
"With our bare hands..." Endra added.
The Redguard blinked twice, disbelievingly, "Um...what was the reason? strength training?"
"According to her, we had the same smell as the 'Friends of the Slaughterers'." Dargo answered, "So to prove our word, we had to work."
"It was torture..." Endra stated painfully.
"It was nothing." Dargo shook his head, "Moving over 200 blocks isn't that hard."
Once again, he blinked twice, "My brother of the Earthmother, 200 blocks is not easy, how big were they?"
Dargo looked around before casually pointing to a house, "This big."
Traysek turned and nearly passed out, "Oh...that just ain't right...guess we're at fault there, huh?" rubbing the back of his neck.
"It was a good enough workout," Dargo said as Endra groaned.
The Redguard sighed, "I'm sure it was, Seriously, you're more fit to date Yuri if you can pull those around without sweating, she enjoys that kind of work..." shaking his head, "Speaking of work, I'm headed back to Ulak Village, looks like the Black dogs made through with their threat to that large orc we met there,"
"Going to need help?" Dargo asked.
Traysek shrugged, "If you want to, but I'm taking everybody this time, gotta feeling we'll all need to go for this one, and three of them can make up for their last mission," nodding towards Endra, "And besides, you just got back from your own assignment and I don't think Endra's got any more in him...it'll take more than stamina potions even after all of that,"
"I can put him in his house and then help you, I won't mind," Dargo stated.
The Redguard thought about that for a moment, grinning, "Alright, I see no issue with you helping, more the merrier, it'll be a while before we head out, but we'll wait on you,"
Dargo nodded before continuing his way, "I'll do it after reporting to the General. He'd want to know what happened." he then got up the stairs.
Watching him head up the stairs, Traysek nodded with a grin, before turning back around, heading back to the house...
Back at the house...
The crew were in the dining room sitting around, as Their captain tossed a bag of diamonds over a contract.
Recorder rose an eyebrow, "And this is for...?"
"The upfront on today's job, we are to go to Ulak village and investigate there," Traysek explained, "Apparently a kidnapping has happened, caused by the dogs,"
"Ulak village? the one we met huge orc with the spear?" Erik asked, "What's going on over there?"
"I think they made through with their threat the last time we were there, in kidnapping his daughter, but that's all the detail we know so far, won't know until we get there," Traysek pointed.
Inigo nodded, "So who's all going today? you usually take a few a time,"
"Usually, but today we're all going, since we're dealing with the dogs, there's no telling who else is involved or how many," The Redguard said, "And this gives you a good chance to test that new hardware we just made for you, and make up for your last job,"
Yuriana hummed at that, "I see, so this bag is the shared payment then?"
"It is, take only four, leave one, that's for our helper when he gets here," He told her, taking his four out of the bag, "In the meantime, I suggest you warm up, fortify or train with your new gear, we leave in twenty minutes" glancing around, "Any questions?"
Lucien rose his hand, getting a nod in confirmation, "So whose the guest coming over?"
"You'll see, he's a decent guy, and he and Recorder have history," Traysek smirked.
"Say what now?!" She gasped, "But that leaves..."
Yuriana smirked widely, "Oho~ this should be good,"
The Redguard looked around, "Any other questions?"
The crew shook their heads, as their leader scatter the diamonds on the table.
"Alright, once again take the time to prepare," leaving the room, "See you all in twenty, and Recorder?"
"Yeah, boss?" She answered.
"After you take your pay, make sure you give the last diamond to our guest when he gets here, he'll appreciate that," Traysek said, before opening and closing the doors.
Once he was gone, a bright smile appeared on Lucien's face...
"Finally, a search and Rescue mission! this is more of our kind of work!" He said, taking his four gems.
Inigo nodded, "Agreed, I've been wanting to fight with the doggies for a while now, hope they got more bite this time" taking his share after.
"I wouldn't get too excited, we might not even run into Volt," Erik said, taking his four next.
Recorder rose an eyebrow, "But whose the guy? Dargo? There's literally no one else that fits that description," taking her four and the extra one.
Yuriana shrugged taking the last of the payment, "if it is, I'm just glad he's helping out, and I get a chance to see him in action,"
After some minutes, a knock was heard.
"I got it!" Recorder's voice boomed from behind it, opening the door, "Well well~ he wasn't joking about the help, nice to see you again Dargo," with a welcoming smile, turning to the newcomer, "And you are?" raising an eyebrow.
"This is Zephyr..." Dargo said with a soft voice.
"Nice to meet you." the Dark Elf nodded to Recorder
Recorder slowly nodded, "Oh, you're Zephyr!" shaking her hand, "Likewise, I'm Recorder~ it's nice to put a name with a face," opening the door up more, "Come on in, the boss's is expecting you,"
Once in, both Dark Elves began to look around.
There were a series of heavy gunshots coming from the basement, making Record nervously chuckle...
"Don't mind that, that's the guys down there giving their new guns a test, target practice," She assured, "Make yourselves at home, there's coffee over there if you need any, otherwise feel free to wait around,"
Zephyr simply took a book she brought with her while Dargo began to check his sword.
Recorder sat on the chair, as footsteps could be heard heading down the stairs, Traysek in his dark guild coat, spotting the two newcomers in the house.
"Ah, Dargo, glad you made it and," Traysek turned to Zephyr, "I wasn't expecting to see you here, Zephyr but regardless, welcome aboard," with a nod.
"The General said that it would be good for her to get familiar with other people." Dargo pointed.
Traysek nodded with a smirk, "Funny, I remember someone else saying something like that a couple of nights ago, well then, you're in luck," walking up to them, "I trust the General has laid the details to you? if not, I can give a quick rundown on what we're doing,"
"He told us what happened," Dargo said as he sheathed his sword.
"Okay, that spares me from having to do it," Traysek said, raising an eyebrow, "Were you compensated for this? or will be? if not, I'll make sure you guys are good,"
"As military, we get an extra pay." Dargo pointed.
The Redguard nodded in approval, "Alright then, that settles that, we'll roll out in ten minutes, need a bit of practice myself," heading to the basement, "See you until then, more than welcome to join us if you want to," going down the stairs.
Recorder watched him leave, sighing, turning to Dargo, "So, did your siblings enjoy the gift you gave them?"
"Yes, they did," Dargo replied.
"Aww, that's good to hear," She complimented, "Kinda wish I had real siblings of my own, the curse of the only child..." in faux rage, clearing her throat "I would like to meet them though, sometime, if that's okay with you,"
Dargo only nodded and said, "Sure, I don't mind."
Recorder blinked in surprise, "O-oh! okay then, I wasn't expecting you to say "Yes" but thank you," feeling her face heat, "If you excuse me, I need to practice down there too, see you when it's time," quickly leaving for the basement.
Dargo sighed before unsheathing his sword to continue his checking on the weapon.
...
Meanwhile, in the basement, most of the crew were getting the feel of their new weapons, especially Inigo and Lucien.
"The Recoil on these are easy to get used to, I see why you wanted us to train with them first," Inigo grinned, firing at another target, putting a massive hole into it.
Traysek aimed down the sights of his double-barrel, blasting straight through the bottles, "Because it would be stupid otherwise, if we're not used to it, it's going to kick our asses when we have to use them," firing another shot from the Daedric pistol this time.
Lucien took out another target, whistling at the damage it left, "By the gods, much stronger than the judgment guns, should we get rid of them?"
"No, keep them, you may never know if you'll have to use them again, they aren't bad, just outdated," The Redguard said, firing another shot.
while they did this Erik practiced his swings with his new axes, making sure to keep his finger off the triggers as he did, "Much lighter than my old one, I'm going to love putting these to work,"
Yuriana on the other hand, had already gotten used to her piece, now working on her strength with one-armed push-ups.
Recorder made it down there and joined the others in target practice, aiming her new ebony pistol at a target and firing, scoring a direct shot.
"How are they up there?" Traysek asked while aiming, "I'm surprised you didn't stay,"
She sighed, firing at another target, "I tried to make conversation, but he didn't seem like he wanted to talk,"
The Redguard shot another target before turning to her, "Ah, played quiet on you huh? Record these things take time, and to be fair, he doesn't really know you that well, maybe once this job's over, you'll get your chance, my advice?"
"Sure, let's hear it," She sighed.
"Take your time, I cannot express this enough, there's no rush, I had to tell him the same thing," Traysek advised, "Friendship isn't something to be to gain quickly, even more so with relationships, it takes time and effort to maintain it...just like we do with each other..." placing a hand on her shoulder, "He'll open up when he wants to, and you'll know when he has, until then, just give it a bit, okay?"
She pouted, almost like that of a child, "Maybe your right, there's no telling what all he's gone through, I'll be less aggressive about it,"
"That's all I'm saying," The Redguard concluded, going back to his gun, "Now we've got a few minutes left I don't want to waste more, feel like competing?" with a smirk.
"Ohoho! you think I can't outshoot you?" She asked with a returning smirk, firing a shot at a target, scoring a bull's eye, "You're on, dragon boy!"
And with that, they passed the time over who would get more targets than the other...laughing as they did...
...
In the meantime, Dargo sheathed his sword and took a stance. An icy aura was around him, his hand on the ready above the hilt of the sword, and his eyes closed. Zephyr continued to read her book and noticed the stance of Dargo.
"That's... you managed to get how to do it?" she asked.
"Yes," Dargo answered.
"Good." and Zephyr returned to her book.
ten minutes later...
Most of the crew were waiting at the door, save for Traysek who was the only one not out of the basement.
Erik who finally noticed the dark elf woman, rose an eyebrow with a smile.
"Zephyr? What a surprise," He said, getting her attention, "No one told me you were the other person going with us, glad to have you,"
"GlaD To HaVe yOu," Inigo mocked with a snicker, "Is this your attempt at flirting? you suck at it,"
"Shut up, you, shut up," Erik retorted, turning to her, "Please don't mind him, he's just being an ASS at the moment,"
Inigo laughed loudly, "Yeah? But at least I've got one with a TAIL," turning to the dark elf giving a slight bow, "Hello there, I'm Inigo, the sharpest shooter and the best tracker on the crew, also funniest,"
"Debatable..." The Nord shot.
The khajiit continued, ignoring him, "It's very nice meeting you, hope we get along,"
"Me too." she was still reading her book.
Moments later, Traysek came up the stairs, shoulder carrying something long, "Sorry about the wait, was too busy looking for this," holding the dragon newt scythe.
Erik whistled, "Finally putting that thing to use huh? about time, what does it do?"
"Something about returning the damage once struck back after being hit, I have yet to actually see what it does," The Redguard answered, before heading to the door, "Everyone good to go?" turning around, getting assuring nods, opening the door, "We're not using mounts, most of us don't have one, so we're taking the fast travel option,"
Both Dargo and Zephyr had confused looks.
"What?" Zephyr asked as Dargo only raised an eyebrow.
Traysek sighed, "I forget, you're both not familiar with the term... Once I've seen or been to a place I can warp to or from there anytime, and I can bring whoever I want, long as they're in the vicinity...an army even, no luck on places I haven't been,"
"A little similar to the teleporters." Dargo pointed.
"Except that they don't need to go there to teleport people," Zephyr added.
"They use a different variant compared to what I use, still pretty good though," Traysek explained, "You'll see what I mean, lets go," walking out the house.
Both Dark Elves looked between themselves, shrugging before following the Dragonborn.
The crew followed them out, Inigo being the last, closing and locking the door behind them...
Once they exited the stone gate until Traysek stopped, building up magic in his hand, "Here's good enough," bringing the spell up, "I'd take a deep breath, this is going to feel weird," to the newcomers, before casting the spell, fading into a shimmer, as the others did the same, vanishing...
Ulak village...
When they arrived both Dark Elves looked around.
"Seems like a Blink, but on a greater scale," Dargo commented, getting a nod from the other Dark Elf.
Trayek nodded with a grin, "Told you it was quick and even quiet, look," nodding towards the citizens going by their day, "We didn't even disturb the peace with our arrival,"
The others appeared, materializing there one by one.
Yuriana looked around, "Where are we?"
"This is Ulak village," Erik pointed, "Place doesn't look different from the last time we were here, taverns nearby,"
"How many places did you guys visit out here?" Lucien asked, "Must've been a lot, because I think we're far out..."
Recorder hummed, "Five I think, this is the third one we visited,"
"Loving the rainy smell here could get used to this," Inigo complimented, "Everyone seems happy here too,"
Traysek took the sight in, clearing his throat, "So now that we're here, we split off in two's, cover more ground that way, be less intimidating in our questioning," turning to them, "Inigo, you're with Lucien, talk to the locals and see if anybody saw anything, doesn't have to even be the incident itself, it can be before or after,"
"You got it," Inigo said, "We'll start asking around, come on Lucien,"
Lucien nodded, "I'll let you know what we've learned, hopefully, someone knows something,"
"Erik, you're going to be with Zephyr in looking for signs of sabotage, this village is normally guarded against attacks like this, they must've got in somehow, a hole in the wall or from the ground, maybe the well itself, I want to know,"
The Nord gave a nod, "Look for signs of infiltration, got it," turning to her, "Wherever you want to start first,"
Traysek turned to Recorder and Dargo, "You two will ask the guards here if they've seen anything, I highly doubt most did, but someone had to give chase,"
"There's plenty of guards, we'll start with someone," Record said with a nod.
"And Yuriana...you'll be with me, we'll seek out the village elder and the father," Traysek added lastly, getting a nod from her.
"You got it, I'll stick around," She said, with a grin.
The Redguard took a deep breath, "Does anyone have an issue with this match-up or jobs? nows the time,"
"Given that last time they got here by groups, I think that they must have something like a teleporting circle or a hidden hole that they can use." Zephyr concluded before turning to Eric, "Let's look for the traces left."
"For the guards, I think that they took advantage of the shift change." Dargo pointed before looking at Recorder, "We'll go see some friends that are here. With some luck, we'll get some answers."
Traysek grinned, "Alright then, the Rendezvous point is the Tavern, many of you know where that is, for those who don't, it's easy to find, just look for a large ale mug on the building," pointing to it, "we'll meet there in an hour, or before if we've found something, see you until then," turning to Yuri, "Let's go," heading off into a direction.
And soon after that, everyone split off into many directions in a duo, each hoping their search would be fruitful there...
In Ur...
Rey walked through the entrance of the city, still thinking over what happened.
His mind was a mess, from Camillia's betrayal to the hatred he got just from being there, and then what the "Former" knight had to say, eventually he left Luckwarden without so much as a goodbye, figuring he could continue his investigation here.
He gazed up at Regis's Manor, sighing, 'Time to see what advice he has...this will be my last chance...' knocking on the door.
A maid opened and smiled at Rey, "Yes?"
"I'm here for lord Regis Again, is he in?" The young knight asked.
"Of course." the maid replied, "Please, follow me."
Rey followed the maid in as she closed the door behind him...
"You surely seem tired, do you want to have something to drink?" the maid asked as she was guiding him to Regis.
The young knight shook his head, "Thank you, but no thank you, it's just been a long day is all..." with a sigh.
After some minutes, they both arrived in front of a door and the maid knocked, "My lord, you have a visitor."
"Let him in!" Regis replied and the maid opened the door.
Reynold walked into the office and bowed, "Greetings lord Regis, I'm here for my report so far and...what happened while there," in a tired voice, before heading to the desk and taking a seat.
"I'm listening." Regis nodded.
Rey took a deep breath and began to relay everything that took place there, from the dislike of the holy troops to Camillia's 'confession' on letting the killer go, he even included the fact of the monster's army's presence and that he had met the warrior again, but didn't succeed in getting him to talk, bringing him back here...
He took a calming breath, keeping his anger in check, "And that's all that happened, I haven't seen Camillia since, not even as I left, the rest is how It went..."
"What do you know of the Holy Knights?" Regis asked.
The young knight thought on this for a second, wondering if he really knew...for all that he was taught during his days as a squire, a true Holy knight is supposed to uphold honor, duty, respect, and safety towards the goddess and citizens of the seven kingdoms and cast out the dark forces that would do otherwise, but now...he was uncertain, from the hateful looks he got back in Luckwarden.
He looked up at Regis, eyes still holding tiredness, "To be honest, sir, I thought I used to know...a true holy knight is supposed to uphold, Honor, duty, respect, and safety for the citizens of the seven nations...I'm aware of the corruption that either the nobles do or my comrades do...I never aspired to be that, I truly wanted to help those in need...which is why I joined, but back there...for a moment...I hated being one...And I've never felt that way before..." clenching his fist unconsciously.
"I see, I see... now, here's another question; what have you done ever since you joined the Holy Knights?" Regis asked the young knight in front of him.
"I was on training and guard duty until deputized and even then, I was with Claudia fending off raids, assisted in sacking and conquering enemy camps, or even hunting down wanted criminals or deserters..." Rey answered.
"The real question was; have you ever done something good while in the Holy Army?" Regis' tone was more serious, "Have you ever wondered what happened to the women of the places you attacked, or what of their families?"
Now this really had him wondering, he was told often he was doing good things, but the truth? some of the things he had to do to get deputized left an awfully sour taste in his mouth, things even he found strange in his service, such as his senior knights' hostility on certain things, like where did those citizens go...Rey even asked once only to be harshly reprimanded by his seniors, but to be asked this now? his head was in a whirlwind of thoughts...
Eyes shadowed over, he cleared his throat, "To be honest, I'm not too sure anymore...I thought me taking care of war orphans and freeing enslaved children were good acts, even arresting a few crooked people in the process...but when you ask like that, I do wonder what did happen to those people...I usually didn't ask and when I did I was often reprimanded for it, nearly got flogged and my status removed once over it...they always left in this strange large creepy-looking wagon when we left that area...it wasn't even in the city by the time we got back...I thought that was always strange, but I wasn't in a position, much like now, to question it..."
"In other words, you did nothing good..." Regis sighed, "Taking care of war orphans and freeing enslaved children may appear as something good, but how did these children become orphans? How did they become enslaved? Those are the questions that you should ask yourself. Maybe you had an indirect hand in it, maybe not... however, one thing is certain; the ghosts of the past can and will reach out to you and make you feel the pain they felt. As for the nobles, they just passed three hours in Grave's office talking with him before getting back to their homes." he then took a deep breath, 'Better not mention that those wagons got attacked by the Dark Blades to rescue the prisoners.' he cleared his throat again before continuing, "All of those actions are insignificant on a large scale. Nothing to be proud about if I'm honest..."
Rey rose an eyebrow with a scowl, "What are you implying...? that I never should've become a holy Knight? it was either them or join the black dogs as a mercenary and we know they can't be trusted, I chose the side of justice and yet I'm still doing wrong? please explain,"
"Justice... now that's an interesting word to be used." Regis laid back on his chair, "Do you know what the word 'Justice' comes from? Are there no other justices in this world?"
"Of course they are, some would even say a vengeance is a form of it, despite being looked down upon," Rey answered, "I don't get it, where are you getting at with this?"
"If you say that you stand with Justice, it's like you're saying that enslaving the Dark Elves is the right thing to do," Regis stated.
Reynold folded his arms, "I never said that, and I abhor slavery, always have...I can't fathom the idea of another person or being taken under someone like that...I can't consider that justice... but, hunting criminals, stopping raids on cities, and getting rid of corruption, that's what I meant by justice...I can't speak for my other comrades, everyone's intentions are different, even my brother's...but once again, when I joined I truly wanted to do good and make some changes when I got up there in rank, but now...I don't know...if this is even the right way anymore..." eyes darkened.
"What do you know of the Red Spears?" Regis asked.
Rey rubbed his chin, "I know they're Lord Swain's elite force and the best of the best, takes a lot to get in from what I heard, done a lot of good too, I was a fan of theirs when I was younger, wanted to be like them, I aspired to it...but I was told I would never make the unit by Lady Alicia and harshly warned never to join by Lady Claudia, not sure why she was against them, given what all they've done for people,"
"It's because they are an independent unit that doesn't care about the Holy Knights, nor the church." Regis replied, "And the selection is made by Lord Swain himself. Unless he says that you can't get in, you still have a chance."
The young knight thought that, maybe there was a chance to turn things around by joining them, but there was something else too, "If I could get in, I would love to get rid of this armor..." frowning at something "There's also something called "the birds of prey" as well, not sure about them, haven't heard much,"
"That's something you shouldn't have heard before it's time..." Regis mumbled before clearing his throat, "Anyways, whether you join or no depends more on what Lord Swain thinks of you. And to see how you think before letting you in, he may put you in some sort of secret test that you wouldn't know."
"Maybe...possibly...which is why I came back here for advice on how to continue because no one will talk to me back there without being hostile, I don't know how to convince them otherwise either..." Rey sighed, "But quitting isn't an option either, so I'm stuck on what to do,"
"You need to follow your heart." Regis replied, "How do you want to do it? That's the main question that you must ask yourself."
In truth, he wanted to investigate the families of the nobles that got murdered there, if anyone else had the answers it would be them...
"I guess I could talk to the families of the victims, find out what they were going there for and because of...my current career, they'll be more than willing to, the nobles that are attacked mostly come from here, if only I knew which families got hit, I would do that," Rey concurred.
"I see..." Regis took a piece of paper and began to write in it, "There are other families that are in Feoh, but I don't know who they are. Perhaps Niall knows something..." he then gave Rey the paper, "Here are the names."
Reynold took the paper and looked the list over, nodding over a few names, "I recognize a couple of these here, they'll be easy to track down, I know where those estates are, Calvinis especially...I was never friends with their son, my brother however is, I'll see if he's willing to talk," looking over the list, "I also know the Remomnet family, their daughter had a crush on me, I could probably talk to her, the rest I barely know, I'll ask them about the other families," rolling up the list, standing up and giving a bow, "This will prove most helpful, thank you, Lord Regis,"
"You're welcome." Regis smiled.
The young knight rose his head, "If I learn anything new, I'll be back here, especially if it leads somewhere," turning and leaving, "I'll see you again, Lord Regis," stopping for a second, "And...thank you...for your insight as well, given me plenty to think on," and left the room, closing the door.
After a while, the Succubus got out of his shadow and shook her head, "He's the same as all the other knights. The only difference is that he's in denial."
"I sure hope that Swain knows what he's doing." Regis sighed, "And from what Camillia told me, he will slow us down."
"Shouldn't I go kill him?" the Succubus asked.
"I doubt that Swain would appreciate it." Regis stated, "But if he grows tired of his antics, he'd give us the green light."
"Being with the Birds of Prey won't get him to change, you know that."
"This is why I'm trying to put him to the test, well I tried..." Regis sighed before taking a paper and began to work.
"And he failed." the Succubus smiled, "If only he had a more opened mind about it, but he's the same as any other Holy Knight."
Regis only shook his head.
To be continued...
Omake
The Rookie guard on duty...
In the fine city of Yamakhroz, the city guard is charged with protecting their citizens by any means, to be a guard is hard work and even harder to get in...That brings us to Corvin the rookie, a dragon-newt who had the luck to make it into the guard, who also today was dealing with a couple of drunks causing trouble at Gem'ahd, now with his senior officer, they stood in front of the bar, hearing the crashing from within, along with Grace's angry shouting.
"You want me to do what now, sir?" Corvin asked, peeking into the window, "I get that we're arresting them, but one of them..." sweating slightly at the drunken minotaur, lifting up a table with one hand while downing the drink in another, "Is a bit big don't you think?"
"We go in, cuff them, and take them to the prison." the older guard, a human who seem to be in his sixties, "Remember the tricks that you were taught and everything will be fine. Now go and get 'em."
Corvin took a deep breath and nodded, "Here I go..." gulping, before heading into the bar, opening the door, nearly hit by a flying chair if he didn't duck after, making his eyes go wide at the scene, "What in the name of the Kerat is this?"
"Time for shum fuuuun!" the Minotaur played with the table while continuing to drink.
"Stars above... give me the patience necessary to do this..." Grace mumbled as she began to get really angry.
Corvin was totally ignored.
The Rookie guard didn't know what make of this, the entire bar was a mess, a couple of Kletzkreig was unconscious on the ground, wether they were knocked out from trying to stop him or because they were drunk themselves, it was hard to tell and finally, much to barmaiden's anger, most of the customers were in disarray, fighting and throwing at each other.
He sighed, clearing his throat, turning to the Minotaur, "Sir! I'm going to need you to put that down!" in a louder voice getting his attention, "It's okay everyone, city guard here, your worries are over!" in a proud tone, going to the minotaur, "Okay, let's get you home, some food and lets sober you up before the dark blades come out here, okay?"
At that everyone in the bar froze and widen their eyes.
Corvin noticed how quiet it got, breathing out in relief, 'That got them to stop, guess the fear of the dark blades is truly legendary...' clearing his throat, "Alright, now that this has diffused somewhat, I need you to come with me, we'll get you all cleaned and sobered up and then send you home, I'm sure your family's worried about you," placing a hand on him.
"Actually, we won't do anything," a Dark Elf Dark Blade appeared out of nowhere, "According to this script, we won't intervene unless it happens beyond the door outside, and I don't want to upset the gods by spilling the blood of someone innocent. Well, you're on your own." and the assassin disappeared again.
The rookie's expression was now that of horror, "WAIT! You couldn't have stayed to make sure?!" he cried, before gulping and turning around, "So...we were going right?" trying to hide his nervousness, until the minotaur's hand grabbed his arm, making him sigh...
The Minotaur grinned widely before saying, "Now you go fly." he was thrown out of the bar and next to the senior guard who was sitting on a beach chair with an exotic drink in his hand.
"Nice landing." he complimented before taking a sip.
Corvin weakly rose his head and shook it, before finally passing out...
"You're going to miss the best part, kid." the old guard said.
"I'VE HAD ENOUGH!" a light blue explosion happened and silence fell in the Gem'ahd.
"Best Fireworks ever." the old guard laughed before taking another sip.
