Chapter 23
Tracking the Dogs (Final)
Wilderness, northern path...
Baldur, Ethan, and Inigo led the rest of the group up a path, which seemed to continue for a while without stopping. Eventually after following the trail long enough, Inigo held up a hand, stopping them both when he saw a large smoke trail in the sky.
"Wait...is that a smoke trail?" pointed to it, "Either that's her trying to signal someone, or we've found that fort..."
"This is a shitty hellhole, not a fort..." Ethan pointed with shame in his voice, "I'm still having nightmares about this place."
Inigo nodded slowly, "So that is from there, good, we're getting close..." before motioning to the others at the smoke, "Let's keep going, they'll catch up,"
"Just watch for the traps set here." Ethan warned, "The last thing you want is to become a flower after your death."
The khajiit nodded, "Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep an eye out..."
And like that, they were back to following the trail, the rest followed at a good distance behind them, to avoid throwing the trail off...but as they followed the smoke trail and strange sticky burning smell hung in the air, putting everyone to a sniff.
Traysek took a sniff and frowned, "Anyone else smelling that?" sniffing around.
"Yeah, it smells like...something burning or smoked, some kind of meat..." Recorder scrunched her eyes.
"Then why is it getting worse as we follow them? smoked meat never had a sticky smell to it, even burnt meat..." Erik added in.
Yuriana furrowed her eyebrows, "It smells familiar...and not in a good way either, it's getting denser too..."
Lucien rubbed his chin, "We could be getting close to that fort, what kind of meat is that? deer? elk?"
The Redguard took a deep sniff, eyes going wide before scowling, "No...as we get closer, it smells like burning decay...there's a sulfur smell with it now...I recognize that smell anywhere...hard to forget it..." looking up ahead, "Has the smell gotten worse for you guys as well?"
"Yeah, it's thicker now," Inigo called back, "and Baldur's losing it," motioning to the growling dog.
"That must be the Communal Rest... as they call it." Ethan pointed as he drew his sword.
"The only time I smelled this scent... was during the attack on my village..." Dargo pointed as he put a hand on his sword.
The others glanced at each other, before drawing their weapons...Traysek had drawn his Dragonbone pistol, loading the chamber before clicking it back.
"Tread carefully, I think we're going to run into something...something we won't like..." The Redguard said with a narrowed glare.
As they headed forward, they eventually arrived at a wall that had a giant hole that was filled with fire... and something else.
"I really hate this place..." Ethan mumbled with anger.
Traysek walked up to the Firehole carefully and inspected it, finding the corpses, eyes somber, "This was the source...Gods...they defiled these bodies..." eyeing the kinds of grisly injuries they had, taking a knee and closing his eyes.
Yuriana had her mouth agape, "Who...who could be this cruel...? we've never gone this far...not even to the worst"
Recorder covered her mouth, trying not to hurl from both the smell and how the bodies looked, "Urp...! Nope! not gonna do it..."
Erik had a hand over his nose, "Ugh...they couldn't even give them a proper burial, how sickening is that?"
"Someone has to pay for this, no way this has been going on for this long..." Lucien slightly growled.
Inigo stared at the corpses in the flames, hot flashes coming back to him of a certain night, clenching his fist, "You're right about that...more than anything Lucien..."
"This is the truth behind the Holy Army..." Ethan pointed, "I almost miss the chance to redo the Unholy Night again... but it would be too good for them..."
Both Dargo and Zephyr looked at the burning bodies before that Dargo "All of this... why...?"
"I still don't understand why humans love to do this to others." Zephyr added.
"I'll tell you why..." Traysek answered without turning around, "It's a display of power and the worst kind...those with it, will always trample over those they deemed lesser than them...like a bug to their boot...that's how they view you all..." in a serious tone, standing up and turning around "I know we're all angry, but do not forget why we're here...first we secure the girl from them and then..." looking back at the city, "We'll talk about what to do about the rest" in a dark tone.
"If you want a way in, you'd better follow me." Ethan walked around the hole and began to lightly tap the stone wall, "Architects of the Holy army are known to be bad at constructing something due to how zealous they can be. Which can translate in..." he then stopped before pulling a brick out, "The pure heart of the Holy Knights. Alright, I'm going to need some help to get some of these bricks out of our way."
"I got this, stand back," The Redhead woman said, drawing her hammer and walking up to the wall, and giving a hard tap to it, denting it in and then another, knocking the wall in, "I could've done it with one blow, but that would've drawn them here,"
Traysek nodded in approval, "Nice work," walking up to the new hole, looking in, "I don't see any soldiers, looks like they haven't caught on to our break-in," before turning around, "Inigo, you will hit the rooftops and be our eyes, I'll warp you up there...Recorder, you and Dargo are going disable alarms, that way they can't rally..."
"You got it, I'm sure they've got plenty of those to cut down..." Recorder nodded.
"Eric, you and Zephyr will confirm where they're holding other slaves or war prisoners, there's got to be a building where they're all stashed or go to..." The Redguard continued, looking at Yuriana, "Yuri, you and Lucien will scout the town itself for that inquisitor and anyone else involved, do not engage them, I just need their whereabouts..."
"Got it boss, according to the locals, he's very disfigured, it shouldn't be hard to spot him" Lucien concurred.
Inigo nodded, "I got it, but what are the rest of you doing?"
"I'll go with Ethan and Bruk'Daz, we'll be the ones liberating his daughter," Traysek finally finished, turning to the large Orc, "Are there any objections, big guy?"
"None..." the Orc responded.
"Listen kids... whatever you do, don't touch the runes on the house walls... The people who did, didn't get to regret it." Ethan pointed.
The Captain nodded in thought, "Keep an eye out for explosive traps in that form, got it...If that's all, let's move..." moving out of the way to let them all in first.
Being the first duo in, Dargo turned to Ethan and asked, "Do you know where are the alarms?"
"Large Braziers that are around some places." Ethan pointed out, "If they are all activated, reinforcements of Feoh will come."
"Braziers?" Recorder frowned.
"They're fire pits on legs, pilled with sticks and if a certain amount are lit, the smoke signal will be strong enough to pick up on..." Lucien explained, "An old method from the imperial city..."
Record nodded, "Got it, I'll take out the legs,"
The rest of the group pilled in, Traysek being the last one in using magic to reseal the wall...
"Well, kids, don't get caught." With that the teams went on their separate ways.
With Dargo and Recorder...
"Something is bothering me," Dargo stated after making sure that they were far enough.
Recorder frowned, "What's going on?"
Dargo narrowed his eyes while looking back, "That guy seemed to know a lot about this place, even their security system."
"You noticed that too?" she asked, glancing back, "He might be an ex-soldier of theirs, he's definitely got the attitude, didn't seem to mind joining us for this rescue,"
"There's also the fact that he appears to be angry, even hateful ever since we got here... almost like this place is personal to him." Dargo added.
She nodded, "Yeah...he might've been stationed here at one point and place like this..." looking at the cages of corpes hanging around, "I can see why..."
"We need to be cautious here." Dargo pointed before continuing to search for their objective.
"Agreed," Record said, covering her nose at the smells the bodies were giving off.
They continued to scout through until they found a staircase leading to one of the Braziers on a rooftop with a torchman on the ready.
"Looks like we found the first one, and it looks guarded..." she whispered, "Only two guards and a torchman...I'll creep up on torchy, you handle the guards,"
Dargo nodded before handling her a blue sphere, "If you're chased, use this on whoever is chasing you."
"Oh...thank you," she simply nodded, pocketing it.
Now while she would like to question what it does, it was not the place nor time, giving him a nod as she crept around to the side of the stairs...climbing up the ledge...sneaking up on the torchman.
Once she was close enough, she grabbed him from behind and quickly cut his throat, the man unable to scream, only gurgling...
The other one didn't have time to see what's happening as his head was cut, he then threw his sword, encasing the other guard in ice.
Recorder whistled, dropping the torch bearer and sheathing her dagger, "Nice touch on the ice," she complimented, walking up to the Brazier...
She drew two of her swords in one motion, sliced all three of its legs, causing the pot to fall over, and kicking it down off the wall.
"And that's one down," Record grinned, "Now for the others..."
Dargo nodded before pulling his sword from the ice man, breaking it.
"That noise will surly draw the attention of others... maybe we can fool them a little." the Dark Elf concentrated his magic before forming a dome of ice around the broken brazier, "This should buy us a little more time."
The assassin nodded, "That'll have to do, at least until I've broken the others... let's go,"
With Eric and Zephyr...
The duo snuck in and out of dark alleys, evading both Holy Knights and Black Dogs.
"This place is really bad..." Zephyr commented looking around, making sure that there was no guard.
Erik furrowed his brow, "Bad is an understatement, this is something beyond that," shaking his head, peeking out of the alley as well, "Looks like the roads are clear for now," narrowing his eyes on the female knights dragging a frail Elf into a strange building, "They just took someone in there, lets check there first,"
"Wait." She grabbed him and hid with him behind a crate as a guard was about to pass near them.
Shaking his surprise off, he watched the guard pass on by, walking up to a couple of mercs before they went somewhere, "Good call there...almost ran into that..." realizing how close...up she was, trying not to blush, "Um...I think they're gone..."
"Yes... They... are..." Zephyr, on the other hand, was totally red.
Erik had a small sweat drop with a slight blush, "It's okay...really... let's just get to that building..." reassuringly.
"Yes... let's...go" Zephyr could only nod at this point.
After an awkward moment, the duo made their way quietly to the storehouse, hiding behind a couple of barrels from the two female knights, who seemed to be locking the shed.
"Looks like they're locking it up, good think I've got lockpicks," Erik noted, raising an eyebrow as he could barely make out their conversation.
"Why are we here again?" one of them asked, "This place gives me the creeps."
"High Priest Stannos said that we had to be helpful to our allies." the second one pointed with a sigh.
"I heard that the Dogs are no longer our allies..." the first one said as she had her hand on the weapon.
"The orders are the orders." the second one shook her head before turning to the locked door, "Kinda feel bad for them."
"That's why I said that this place gives me the creeps."
"Let's see if there's no new dead body that we must dispose of." the second one said as they both walked away.
Once the two knights left, the duo moved close to the door, Erik took a good look around, before crouching, pulling out the lockpicks, "This won't take me long, but I do need cover," getting to work on the lock.
Zephyr only nodded before looking around while Eric works on the locks.
After a minute of tinkering with the lock, a click gave off...
"Got it," Erik said in satisfaction, "For a slave storehouse, this was surprisingly easy..." Easing the door open.
Inside, were only elves; High Elves and Dark Elves. They had rugged clothes, chains on both arms and legs, runic collars, and all kinds of injuries.
"By the Earthmother..." Zephyr widens her eyes at the scene.
Erik was at a loss for words, he expected bad, but this...? this was worse, "By the gods...what's been done to these people?" he gasped, looking around, taking note of the injuries, taking a deep breath, "Well...he wanted us to find where they were keeping them...wasn't expecting this..." getting flashbacks about the first storehouse they were in.
"There must be more like this place." Zephyr stated, "We need to find the others and explain this to them."
The Nord took a breath, "Yeah, has to be...there's no way there isn't..." taking the scene in, "I agree, maybe by then they'll have the alarms down...lets see if there's more here..."
And like that, they left the storehouse, hard as it was, they had more to track down, however...that didn't mean the anger either of them felt wasn't growing...
West of the fort
(Lucien & Yuriana)
Nearby, Lucien and Yuriana took care not to be detected, donning cloaks as they passed from street to Alley. So far, they blended in well with the rest of the hooded populace, being ignored by the passing knights or Dogs.
Then, something caught the imperial's eye, a billboard with his familiar face on it...
"Hold on Yuri, what is that about?" He asked, directing her attention to it.
Yuriana stared at the board for a minute, "Those look like our faces, but why?"
They walked over to the billboard, and both of their eyes widened in shock...
"By Dibella...we're wanted..." Yuriana whispered, mouth agape, "250,000...I thought the highest was 9000..."
Lucien scanned over the wanted posters, coming upon their boss's, "Look how much they want on the boss...!"
Yuriana looked up at the top poster and nearly fainted, "That's...25 Million? by the nine, they added what was on us a hundred times over..." turning to Lucien, "Is it even safe to be out here?"
"Most likely not, but that's not stopping him or us..." Lucien sighed, until he heard a nearby door open, a trio of knights coming out of it, "Cover your face and move...!"
The Redhead nodded and did just that, keeping her head down as they passed them by...
"*Whew* too close...now let's find this inquisitor...now he shouldn't be too hard to notice, they said something about disfigurement...so we'll check for anyone in charge with horrific scars..."
Yuriana glanced at the patrolling knights, "We could see where they're going by tailing them and since we look like almost everyone else here, we should be fine, come on," being the first to trail them.
"Why do I have a bad feeling about this...?" He sighed, following her.
From elven slaves in chains forced to work in some sort of farmland to elven women being raped by Knights and Dogs... eventually, the three knights arrived in front of the largest building.
The hooded duo hid behind the corner of the building, observing the three knights...
"Gods, this place is messed up..." Lucien commented, looking back, "I hope we're really doing something about them..."
Yuriana nodded, "In time Lucien, it's too soon right now, we'll blow our cover saving those people, there's nothing we can do right now...we just have to confirm the location of this inquisitor and our part is done...
"Y-you're right...but it doesn't make me feel good to pass them by like that..." The imperial lamented, "But for the sake of the mission...and we still don't know if Recorder and Dargo are finished with the alarms..."
She put a hand on his shoulder, "Don't worry, your heart's in the right place Luci, those men will pay but in due time..." looking back at the building, "For now, let's see what this creep inquisitor looks like..."
Once open, they saw a Dog and behind him... some sort of grotesque human-like thing.
(The duo's expressions)
Lucien coughed, "Um...what in oblivion is that thing...? Is that...? that the inquisitor...?" he asked in high pitch.
"Considering the fact they just bowed to him, it's looking that way..." Yuriana answered, "By shor's nutsack...he looks like a pair with teeth...!"
"Sir, there was some sort of commotion, but we're dealing with it right now." one of the knight said.
"Intruders? Good..." the voice was chilling, "If you find any woman, bring her to me."
"Of course sir." the knight bowed.
"Before I forget, bring me something to entertain myself." he ordered, "My last toy broke." he lifted a young Dark Elf boy by the leg and threw it at their feet, "Throw it in the fire."
"R-Right, sir..." Even the knight seemed disturbed by that.
They witnessed the boy being tossed like a pound of meat, dragged off by the knight, as Yuri's eyes went aglow.
"That vile disgusting piece of...!" She growled under her breath, going for her hammer.
"Wait, Yuri...We cant engage him now, let's just take back what we got from this, we know the location, as you said, we'll be back.." Lucien said assuringly, "We just need to make sure the Braziers are gone before this, and we're in the green,"
The Redhead stared at the deformed man, before taking her hand off her hammer, "Fine...I'll give it time, I did tell you to calm down..."
"We'll Rendzvous with the others and then make the move, until then, let's go..." Lucien whispered.
After she nodded, they both soon slid away from that area, the imperial going for his radio...
Fort Rooftops
(Inigo)
The Blue Khajiit hopped from one roof to another, making sure not to attract anything from his jumping around. There had been bowmen on some rooftops, prompting him to quickly put them out with headshots, before jumping to it.
Notching and firing an ebony Arrow, it pierced straight through the black dog bowman's skull, causing him to fall off the roof.
"Bullseye~" he smirked, running and jumping over to that roof next, finding no other bowmen around, "Okay, this looks like a good place to stop..." pulling out a telescope, 'Let's see if I can find her from here...' scanning the lower area.
"What's going on..." a guard walked to the body of the dead Dog before widening his eyes, he then took a horn that caused a wave.
The surviving torchmen felt the wave and ignited the braziers, and the sound of a bell being rung was heard.
Inigo heard the alarms, raising an eyebrow, "How do they...?" until he thought about it, "Dammit...it was the guard that dropped...hope they put those out quickly," going back into the telescope, finding a group of cages, finding a strange marked orc woman there, "IS that her...?" zooming in the telescope, "Yeah...it must be...alright, time to report this in..." reaching for his radio...
Nearing the town center,
(Traysek, Ethan and Bruk'daz)
Passing through the city through the alleys, the alarm was heard putting frowns on them...
"What in oblivion...? who got caught?" The Redguard gasped, looking up, finding more than three smoke trails going up, "Gods, this just got harder..." gritting his teeth.
Then his radio went off, quickly answering it...
"Someone better tell me, how they managed to set off the alarms...!" he answered in a slight growl.
Inigo's nervous chuckle came through, "That...might've been me, I had shot one of the bowmen guarding the roof and fell off it...but, I have good news...I found the location of our target, sending the info now..."
Traysek sighed with a facepalm as a location appeared on his scouter, nodding at it, "Okay, that helps but damn Inigo...I hope they've disabled enough,"
"We have, even if they do ring that bell, they still can't rally from the neighboring city..." Recorder answered, "Dargo and I will put out the rest of the flames, but someone has to take care of that alarm bell..."
"We'll do that, we found the location of the inquisitor...he's...a unique case so to speak..." Yuriana's voice chimmed in, "We'll meet up once that bell stops tolling..."
The Redguard took a deep breath but nodded, "That's fine, long as it doesn't last too long, how's things going with you Erik?"
"Zephyr and I almost tracked down the last of the storage sheds, but someone needs to do something about this or our cover is blown...!"
Traysek nodded, "Don't worry, the others are already on it, and if we see one, it's getting blown to bits, stay low and quiet, the city's on high alert..."
"Aye, sir..." all of them chimed, before he hung up, turning to the other two...
"I've got a location, but we need to move quickly, Inigo indirectly set off the alarms here by sniping a guard..." Traysek explained, clicking on the button, "Let's move...!"
Near the cage...
Volt looked toward the bell and sighed.
"I wish we could have more time between us, to become real friends." he smirked as he looked at the now awake Half-Orc, who was glaring at him, "Come now, I'm a friend to Orcs."
The Trio eventually caught up, taking cover behind some barrels, and finding Volt near the hostage.
"Son of a bitch...!" Traysek growled, "So Inigo's nose wasn't playing tricks, what in the name of Sithis is he doing here?" zooming the scouter in, watching him leave the area, "Okay, he's moved, time get your girl" to the orc, crouching and sneaking over to the cage, activating invisibility.
A couple of Dogs approached the cage and leaned on it.
"Well, well... the princess is awake." one of them smirked, "I wish that we could lick those thighs and even do more, but the boss is a bit protective of you for whatever reason. It's not like that Orc cares about you being a virgin."
Just then, a dagger goes through one of their guts, freaking out the other one, but before he could even draw, Traysek had wrapped his hands around his head and mouth, before giving a violent twist, snapping his neck, startling the half-orc.
"Pieces of shit..." He uttered, searching one of their bodies, finding a key, turning to her, who slightly backed away, "It's okay...! We're here to get you out of here, your father's also here," unlocking the cage.
"Stay away from my promised one." Xunaakt walked forward, "You have no business with any Orc, Human"
Meanwhile, Volt was simply glaring at them.
Traysek stopped, and turned around with a smirk, "Well well~ if it isn't the shitlord himself, how's your face Volt?"
Volt growled before pulling a long new blade, "This time, I will kill you."
"You are no Orc, begone!" Xunaakt ordered, "You have no right to step in this business!"
"You..." Bruk'Daz walked toward the Orc Lord, "I challenge you to a Detria'kali."
The few Orcs with Xunaakt stiffened and looked between themselves while their leader looked insulted.
The Redguard laughed, drawing and twirling the scythe, shouldering it, "I see you've gotten a new toy, but I doubt it's got anything on this...by all means, you can try, but we're still taking the girl from you both," enflaming the scythe, "Come on!"
"Don't interfere!" Bruk'Daz roared, "The rules of the Detria'kali are sacred. If you interfere, my honor will be tainted forever."
"The Detria'kali is a one-on-one fight." Keelia pointed, "If the challenged one backs away from it, he will admit defeat. If someone from either side attack the other side, they will admit defeat and cast shame upon the Orc they're with."
Xunaakt looked at Volt before nodding away.
Volt simply eyed Traysek and began to walk away, still on fight mode, "We'll settle our score elsewhere."
"Wouldn't have it no other way..." The Redguard said, glancing back at the orc, "Kick his ass, old man," following the merc afterward.
Both Orcs glared at each other before a circle was drawn on the ground. At that moment, they rushed at each other with murderous intent.
Xunaakt swung downward, but Bruk'Daz dodged to the right before stabbing his opponent to the side. Xunaakt roared painfully before backhanding the exiled Orc to a wall.
"Father!" Keelia gasped as Xunaakt grinned while looking at her.
"Don't count me down yet." Bruk'Daz got on his feet and roared before his markings began to glow.
"Interesting..." Ethan looked at the Orcs as they began to clash, the strikes Xunaakt cleaved as an electric wave was sent forward.
Bruk'Daz jumped before the spear began to glow purple and headed for a head-piercing strike only for the Orc Lord to roll away, but three waves came out, one at a time; the first brought the larger Orc to his knees, the second made him fall on his face, and the third pulled him toward the exiled Orc.
"You're done!" Bruk'Daz went for a piercing strike, but the downed Orc rolled out of the way before getting on the offensive again.
On the roof, there was a man in strange white armor.
"Things are interesting." he stated, "Two fights; one for the honor of the family, the other for personal reasons. If it comes to that, I'll bail them out before plunging this entire place in Scarlet Rot."
Open field...
Traysek stood with his scythe at the ready, still shouldering it, giving a smirk to the man's glare.
"So...here we are again, face to face...only this time? I'm not in service to the shields...I have you to thank for that, you freed us, but that's the only "thanks" you get from me..." his eyes now slit, "Does Xunaakt know by the way? know that you offered the General his spot in your 'empire?'"
"Do you believe that he cares?" Volt replied, "I thought that you were a real man... but it's false, like how you talk with that confidence that I will shatter with this new blade."
Some sort of blood began to emanate from it.
Once again, The Redguard laughed, "That's a cute sword, is that blood magic? It still won't save you... Being a man in your definition is twisted, vile... I'm going to enjoy maiming you again..." with a wicked smile, beckoning him over, "Whenever you're ready to die~"
Battle theme: An Antagonistic battle- Dragon Ball Super
Volt rushed before throwing a smoke bomb at Traysek's feet and then formed a low stance, the blade coated in his own blood to unleash a rending blood slash in a wide arc.
When the smoke cleared The Redguard was no longer there, but chuckling could be heard...
"A smoke bomb? really now?" he heard from behind him, Traysek giving a violent wide swing with the scythe...
Volt rolled out of the way before quickly slashing the Dragonborn while he was open.
Traysek winced taking the blow, before parrying his next attack, smashing the hilt into his side and giving an upward slice through the merc's shoulder, causing him to stagger back, giving him the opportunity to catch his leg with a scythe and sweep him off his feet before, "MUL, NEH!" he screamed, unleashing a shockwave that sent him flying.
After getting up, and landing on his face, he took something red and coated his blade with it.
"I'm going to dry you from what you call life!" Volt roared before charging toward the Dragonborn
The Redguard clicked his teeth, noting what was on his weapon, 'More blood...? Just how much is he willing to give?' he mused, twirling the scythe and delivering a powerful swing, clashing weapons with merc, the purple flames, and blood waves emitting a light, "Ooooh~ interesting...!" breaking his guard with a front kick, swing the scythe at him again, this time scoring a blow to his chest.
"Damn it..." Volt glared hatefully at Traysek before seeing a series of piercing magic projectiles that were heading straight at his opponent's back, at that, he got up and used all of his forces to clash weapons with Traysek, "If it wasn't for you, we would have the kingdoms at our feet!"
"Yeah yeah, and "the world would've been ours!" heard it before...not interested now..." The Redguard rolled his eyes and headbutted him, he then spots something approaching from the corner of his eye, "STRUN, SLEN NUS!" summoning a thunder shield around himself, blocking the projectiles, cutting a nasty eye at the newcomer, before focusing back on Volt, "There will be no more outside help..." rushing at him with murderous intent.
Volt took a stone and broke it, which teleported him away.
"At least he's smart enough to escape." the newcomer said before turning to head toward the Orcs.
Traysek stopped short, growling, "fucking coward!" he roared, shaking the ground, teeth lengthened, taking a calming breath, "Okay...calm down, time to check the old man," sheathing his scythe, heading back to Bruk'daz and Ethan.
Back to the Detria'kali...
The fight began moments ago, but it seems like Bruk'Daz is the winner since his opponent was near death.
"Damn you..." Xunaakt spat blood before swinging his weapon again only for Bruk'Daz to deflect the attack to the ground.
"You lost." Bruk'Daz pointed.
"It's not over..." The Orcs broke some stones that teleported them away.
"Father!" Keelia ran and hugged her father as she was sobbing.
*Music cuts*
Traysek caught up with them, going to Ethan, "Hey, how did things go here?"
"It was easy for him to win." Ethan snorted before looking around, "Strange... I don't see any other guard." he then narrowed his eyes, "I don't like this..."
Traysek looked around, "Yeah, weird...even the bells have stopped...what's going on...?" going into his radio, "Come in, I repeat come in, what's happened?"
"We've disabled the alarm bell, and I think Recorder and Dargo did something with the braziers because we're not seeing the smoke signals anymore..." Yuriana said, "Even stranger that the guards all fled from here..."
"What? What for?" The Redguard questioned.
"No idea, but they even ignored us leaving the fort..." Erik's voice came on next, "We've also confirmed three storehouses here, full of people, both high and dark elf along with a few monster races and humans from back home..."
Traysek paused at that, "I see..." going into thought for a second, 'Why would they all leave...? they had too much here to just abandon...unless...' eyes going wide at a frightening realization, "Everyone Who's not with Erik and Zephyr, stop what you're doing and head to the storehouses and free the prisoners, quickly!"
"Boss...?" Recorder voice came through next.
"No time to explain! do it now, and fast, we don't have much time!" He ordered.
"Aye, sir..." The crew chimed together, before he hung up, turning to the group he was with, "We need to go now, I feel something big coming we DON'T need to be here," turning to Ethan, "What's the quickest way out of here?"
The old man didn't have time to answer as someone spoke before he did.
"I applaud your tenacity." they looked up and saw a man in strange white armor, "But it ends now. You shall all decay here."
He then jumped high in the air, with some strange petals on his back, landing at the center.
Before that flower could Erupt...
"FUS, KLO UL!" Traysek quickly shouted, turning the flower to stone, sighing in relief, "By the nine...that won't hold forever... once that breaks, whatever's coming out is coming out,"
"We need to get to the northeast from here." Ethan pointed, "That's the fastest way out of here for us."
"Lead the way, I'll let everyone know about this development in the process..." The Redguard assured as the group made a break for the northeast exit.
5:00
Meanwhile, the doors to a storehouse opened, with Recorder and Dargo rushing in, slashing the chains that kept them down.
"No time like the present, time leave this hell hole, everyone out!" She ordered, turning to Dargo, "Is this everyone?"
Dargo began to concentrate his hearing, "There are still two more places at least." he then looked at the ground, "Even underground... we can't save everyone..." he tightened his hands.
"You're right," she sighed, "We can't save everyone but... we'll at least make the effort to," looking around on the floor, until she found some crates strangely and sloppily thrown on top of each other at the far end of the room, going to it and clearing the pile, finding a locked trap door, "Would you look at that...a trap door here, wonder if the other houses have this..." slicing the lock, "I'm going in after them, get these people out here to safety..." lifting it open.
But she found malnourished elven children, with some of them dead.
"By the Earthmother..." Dargo widen his eyes at what he saw.
Recorder, on the other hand, was in shock, covering her mouth at the sight of the dead children, 'I take what I thought about the burning hole back...how could they do this to children...? Greload the unkind wasn't even that twisted...' turning to Dargo, "We can't leave these kids here...even with what's at stake..." turning back to the scared kids, 'It's a good thing I spent time with Misty's brood, I know how to talk to kids..." clearing her throat, "It's okay, kids, we're here to get out of here...away from this bad place, and we've got food..."
At the mere mention of food, the remaining kid's eyes lit up, before quickly rushing out of the trap door...there was one more child struggling to move, making Record go down there and pick her up, "I've got you, come on..." carrying her up the stairs.
"Is...is my mother alive...?" the child asked in a weak tone, pulling strings at her heart.
"I don't...know... let's just get out of here, okay?" her voice nearly breaking, made worse when she passed a deceased child with maggots coming out her eyes, tears forming in hers, "What's...your name kiddo?"
"It's...Celia...I feel...so tired...everything hurts..." the child teared up.
Recorder shook her tears away or tried to, "We're almost out of here...just stay with me..." coming out of the trap door, "There's...no one else...we can go now..." her voice shaky.
"All of this... is wrong..." a deep anger could be heard in Dargo's voice, "The responsible must pay for this..."
His calling stone illuminated and he took it.
"I've contacted Commander Niall." it was Zephyr's voice, "We're going to need his help if we want to get all of these to safety."
"Very well." Dargo turned it off before saying, "We need to get out of here."
Recorder nodded, still holding the child before leaving the storehouse with Dargo...
3:30
Inigo jumped from roof to roof, until he spotted Erik and Zephyr helping people out of the shed, hopping down to them, "Finally, found someone," walking up to both, "I saw the soldiers just randomly scatter out of here," turning to the storehouse, "Is this everyone from in there?" finding many malnourished and skinny people in torn clothing, some even coughing.
Zephyr began to concentrate her powers before looking down, "Weak breathing... there are people underground."
Inigo went into thought, ears twitching, "I hear them, they're under this building, must be a trap door nearby, go ahead, I'll get whose ever left in there, go ahead take the rest,"
"Are you sure Inigo? we might not be able to save everyone..." The Nord insisted.
"And if those are children down there? could you leave them behind?" The Khajiit asked, getting no answer in return, "That's what I thought, I'll go see who's down there, don't bother waiting on me..." heading into the building, ignoring his friend's pleas.
When he got in, he searched around until he found a very dusty platform, went over to it, and lifted it up...the sight shocked him entirely...
"By the gods...!"
There were children that had only their skin on their bones.
Erik had a worried look, "What'd you see Inigo...?"
"There's a lot of children down here! starved to the bone! there are even the dead ones down here...oh gods...! *Bleeurrrgh!* godsdammit...!" they both heard from in there, "Sorry about that kids!"
"Kids...?" the nord gasped, "By the nine, get them out here if you can!"
From back inside the building, Inigo held his hand out with a pleasant smile, "If you can understand me, we need to leave this awful place, to your parents and..." looking at one with their ribs showing, "And to some food, I know you're all hungry, come on,"
Despite being malnourished, the children were quick in leaving the basement, the khajiit moving out the way to let them...once they got out, he stepped down to check around, finding nothing but nearly rotted-away bodies...clenching his fist...growling, he turned around and left, not wanting to see any more than he has...
"What's going on?" Zephyr entered and widen her eyes before taking a step back, "Wha-What's this... What in the name of the Earthmother is this..."
Inigo came out of the trapdoor, closing it, "Whatever you do, don't go in the basement, it's even worse...let's just get these guys out of here..." taking a deep breath after.
Erik walked in, eyes widening as well, "So many kids...we would've left them here..." turning to Zephyr, "We need to go, don't worry...we'll make whoever did this pay dearly...but we don't time to dwell on it now..." in a calming voice.
"What kind of being can do this?" Zephyr nearly dropped her spear.
"An inhuman one, that's who...someone who doesn't care who or what he hurts...someone who needs to die..." Erik said, barely able to hold back his anger, clearing his throat, "Getting off track, let's get these kids out of here, time's getting short..."
After getting hold of herself, Zephyr stabbed her spear on the ground and made a bridge of wind to outside the walls, "Let's go."
2:30
At the final storehouse...
Yuriana kicked the door in, finding people chained up to the walls, some looking sicker than the rest...
"Found them in here," she said, as Lucien caught up.
"Good, let's get them free, come on," He concurred, drawing his beam sword.
They went to work cutting the captives free from their binds and chains...once they were finished, Lucien put away the beam sword, the group of captives standing there.
"Is there anyone else here you all may know of?" She asked one of them.
One of them tried to talk, but he could only mouth some words.
Yuri frowned at that, "Why didn't anything come out?" before spotting the red marks on his neck and face, "What is that...?"
"I'm...not sure...It looks like some kind of infection, even looks contagious, I'd be very careful about how you touch him Yuri, or anyone for that matter, he's not the only one with it..." Lucien pointed, "I'll have to make some cure disease for that...possibly a powerful one...for now, help these people out of here, I'm going to check for anyone else or for a cellar..."
She nodded but had a worried expression, "You'll be alright on your own, alright then, but if anything happens..."
"I know...I'll yell for you, go ahead," he told her, watching her usher the captives out.
Once she was out, he began to check the room for anything strange, right up until he found a strange trapdoor, nervously going to it...
'Now why would this be here...? what's behind it?' he mused, knocking on it, "Hello? Is anyone in there?"
There was low shallow breathing from the other end of it, before a simple...
"Yes..." a weak tone answered, "Please let us out..."
Wasting no time at all, Lucien swung open the trap door to find two kids, covered in the same red spots as the adults, nearly making his jaw drop to the floor.
"By the divines...are you kids okay? you look sick, who did this to you?" he asked.
Upon close inspection of the place, he found some sort of white fungus... And what looks like a hand could be seen there.
Lucien narrowed his eyes, turning to the two, "Go ahead and go, there's a redhead woman outside that'll guide you out..."
"Ok...Mister... be careful...you'll...get...sick..." One of them told him.
Once the kids had left the trapdoor, Lucien headed further in, activating his scouter, and getting all-white signals...
"By the gods, what is this...?" covering his nose and mouth from the spores, "Hello? Anyone else down here?!" checking around, before gasping, eyes going wide.
There were so many corpses of adults and children down there with strange fungus coming out of them, he walked to the arm and tapped it, making it fall completely off with bone rotted out.
'Who could've done this...? What inhumane practices happened here?' he mused, unable to find anyone else alive, 'I think those two were the only ones to survive...by the gods, all this death...all for what?'
He gave the area one last look, before nodding to himself, hand still over his mouth, 'I need to get out of here, I can't breathe any of this in...'
And with that, he quickly left the small room, the corpses of the dead plaguing his mind as he did so...
...
Back outside, Yuriana was waiting for the imperial when two kids covered in red marks came out, making her widen her eyes.
"Children...? By the gods, you all look so sick...where's the blonde man that got you out?" She asked them.
Before they could answer, Lucien had walked back outside, taking his hand off his face.
"I thought you got lost in there, where did they come from?" She asked.
"They're from the trap door, some strange fungus is growing down there, I couldn't breathe any of that in..." Lucien sighed, turning back to the building, "There were more down there, but these were the only two left alive..."
Yuriana gapped, "Gods...that bad...? What was down there?"
"So many corpses with fungus coming out of them, like they've been experimented on...one thing's for sure, this unknown disease is not something to mess around with, and I'm not sure if I didn't catch anything down there...but we'll worry about that later, we need to get them out of here now..."
"Right, to the north gate," she concurred, "Okay everyone, let's go, we're heading to the north gate, if any of you need to be carried, I'll do that..."
The captives took a headstart to the gate, one of the children falling, as she picked him up.
"I got you, sweetheart, we won't leave you, come on," picking him up and carrying him as they ran for the gate...
0:59
Near the north gate...
Traysek and the group he was with were dashing for the gate, finding many ahead doing the same thing, finding his comrades there guiding them out.
"Looks like they've got everyone they could, good," Traysek sighed in relief, "And we're down to a minute..."
When they exited the city, Knights and Dogs circled them.
The Redguard and the others glared at them, the former drawing his scythe again.
"Well, this is a surprise...I expected a welcoming party, not an exit one..." Traysek commented, spotting a poster with his face and numbers, "What's that you've got there?"
"Once we deliver your heads, we'll be loaded for life." one of the Dogs pointed.
"So stand down and die." this time, it was a knight who said, "Just lay down and die, we might let the others go."
Traysek and the crew looked at each other and then back at them, they broke into fits of loud laughter, cackling like bandits, making both the knights and dogs glare at them with gritted teeth.
"Heheheh...Oh really? that's hilarious coming from all of you!" The Redguard chuckled, "By the nine, are you serious? It'll be a cold day in Dagon's realm before I do that, especially to you mooks...!" eyes going slit.
Recorder sat the child down, a dark smile forming on her lips, "Wonderful...I was hoping you all didn't leave, now I can pay you all back in kind..." still smiling but her eyes were feral.
"My claws and arrows would disagree with that, infact you're about to find out," Inigo added in.
Lucien drew his beam saber, "I think it's about time we taught these guys a lesson, they've been unchecked for too long,"
Yuriana drew her hammer, "Gonna enjoy this more than I should, who wants their skulls cracked in first?"
"You're wasting our time, you're better off killing all of us because we're not going to let you do as been doing...your bullshit ends today!" Erik growled, drawing his gun-ax, "Time to turn this coming out party into a funeral..." Banging his ax on the shield.
Not too soon after, more knights arrived as the Dogs laughed.
"You thought that we had no plan?" the Dog Pointed, "We changed our security system so that we send for reinforcement at any sound."
"It would be stupid not to." a Knight added.
"I don't know who told you about this place... but I will get the answer one way or the other." the inquisitor walked forward, dragging a huge axe, "Get them."
Thousands of enemies charged them.
Battle theme- Disturbed lines - Katana Zero
Traysek took a deep breath, "VEN, GAAR NAS!" he roared, blasting most of them away with cyclone, "All too easy!" ducking from a blow from a duo of holy knights, countering with a quick swipe and decapitating them both, "Wuld, NA KEST!" violently shooting into the towards the launched men, shredding them with a barrage of slashes, spinning the blade clean as they fell to pieces.
Recorder dashed at a couple, firing off a smoke round, disorienting a group and forcing them to cough...now blinded in her smoke storm, they heard laughter, as a pair of blades jutting from the chest of the holy knight, freaking out the small group, another getting his head sliced into, shredded...more and more dropped dead with gruesome wounds, until the last one of them, a black dog was frantically looking around, coming face to face with a barrel of pistol.
"You wouldn't-" Was all he could say before her pistol barked, splattering his head.
Inigo wasted no time in firing off arrows, scoring shots to the head and chest of the dogs, backstepping away from a knight that got close, drawing his sword and parried the blow, retaliating with a stab through his throat, "Stupid tin cans...!" ducking from another holy knight, running his blade through his armor and chest.
Erik had his shield up while firing shots from his gun-ax, before one of them got close enough for him to bash, smashing the ax blade into his face, and knocking him away. He hacked into the neck of a holy knight next, ripping it out and finishing him with a gunshot to the chest. He then flipped a dog over that charged him from behind and savagely beat his face in with the shield.
Lucien blasted a torrent of fire at a mixed group...causing them to flail in flames...after that, he drew his gun and blasted a few rounds into them, causing them to explode in poison gas, making the other dogs and knights cough, suffocating them, which gave him room to get close and impale his beam saber, effortlessly into the armor of the holy knight, "You guys are more fit to be bandits than knights!" ripping it out and beheading him, blasting a fireball at another group.
As for Yuriana, she smashed her hammer into the helmet of a holy knight, making his head a bloody gory mess, before she gave a cry, healing and replenishing everyone's reserves, "When are you guys going to learn?!" turning and giving a hard homerun swing into two knights, sending them into flying into another direction, one even going into a tree.
Dargo slashed multiple heads before encasing his sword in Ice, "Too slow..."
Zephyr Stabbed her spear on the ground before making more pressure on it, creating a whirlwind that shredded three Dogs.
Ethan and Baldur coordinated some attacks to dispatch Knights and Dogs without being touched.
The inquisitor grinned darkly before ordering, "Instead of going one at a time... go all at once." he then looked at the people, "And kill those useless traitors who rejected our Love."
The Redguard heard that while grabbing the knight by the helmet, pushing lighting into him, tossing him at a couple, and smirking when he was surrounded, "STRUN SLEN!" he yelled, a thundering bubble forming around him when the blades connected, causing a series of retaliating shocks, electrocuting them, while he aimed his dragon bone flintlock at the legs of a group going for the freed captives. his pistol barked a crimson wave that expanded and sliced through their legs sending them all crashing hard to the ground.
Inigo aimed his bow and began to put an arrow in each head of the legless men, aiming a lightning arrow at another group of knights, discharging it and spell attached, chained lightning tearing through most of the group, nearly hitting the inquisitor.
Recorder ducked, slicing through the gut of a dog, before lunging at a holy knight, piercing him with her both her blades, taking him to the ground and tearing them both out, before throwing a dagger at one of them and going for Dargo, scoring a shot to the back of the knights head.
Erik fired frost shots from his gun-ax, freezing them there, firing another shot, blowing them to pieces, he then gave a violent swing with his shield bashing one of the dogs, before sweeping his leg with the ax.
Before the man could even retaliate, Erik finished him off with a gunshot to the head, going for a shield charge at a group of dogs with a war cry.
Lucien used a summoning spell, bringing into two flame atronachs, pointing at the group of attackers. The flame women flew towards them, hurling fireballs and bolts, catching the men aflame.
Yuriana had also summoned her phantom, which went straight for a number of them, dicing them up with her greatsword...The Redhead broke out into a boob charge, smashing both holy knight and black dog, stopping with a spin and launching with a hard swing, sending them high into the air.
"More are approaching..." Dargo pointed as he decapitated four knights, "We need to be quick..."
"They might be the commander's forces." Zephyr pierced a Dog in the throat before spinning the spear, making another whirlwind.
"We need to fight smart here!" Ethan dodged a Knight before piercing his heart, "The last thing we want is to be tired." he then cleaved his sword, gutting two Dogs.
Traysek impaled the knight with the scythe blade, tearing it out, and gave a wide swing, splitting him in half with a spray of blood, turning to the inquisitor, narrowing his eyes... "FO, MEY GUT...!" The last two coming out whispered, causing a quiet rainstorm, which stopped a few knights in their tracks, the frosty blowing in the atmosphere, "I can only use this once a day, let's not waste it!" teleporting to the Inquisitor, colliding into him with a hard blow, locked.
The others felt their energy come back in a rush, now fighting with even more vigor than before...
Inigo kept the pressure high with his poison arrows, scoring shots on the marksmen, causing some to melt from exposure, Ohohoho! I like how this feels!" putting the bow away and drawing his sword and dagger, charging at a group.
Recorder slashed both of her blades into a knight, leaving a large X in his chest, before swinging out and quickly catching a dog trying to jump at her, taking his arm, "Whoops~ did you lose that?" impaling him through the back with her swords, and ripping them out in violent fashion.
Erik slammed into one of them with his shield charge, sending the knight barreling through his friends, the nord aiming and firing an explosive round, blowing them to chunks, and taking a deep sigh, 'Not one for slaughter, but I can't deny how good this feels right now...' however as he was musing this, he found himself under pressure from a greatsword wielding merc, "Nice sword..." he commented, harshly bashing him in the face, and running him into the ground. He finished him with a slam to the neck, nearly decapitating the poor bastard.
The imperial gutted one of the holy knights with a beam sword, kicking him off with a burning hole in his chest, and blasting a fireball at him and an oncoming trio of dogs. Lucien then checked over with his Atronach surprised to find them still fighting despite the rain, before ducking an axe blow and shooting the dog in the leg, and killing him with an upward slash, "How uncivilized..."
Yuri charged them down, smashing her hammer into a group of knights, destroying many of their armor and crushing bones, she then blocked the attacks of a Warhammer-using merc, parrying his blow to the side and giving his head a quick pop with the hammer, disorientating him, bring the hammer down the back of his head decapitating him, making a few knights and dogs hesitate for a moment.
"What's the matter, boys? thought you wanted this?!" charging at them now with a blow wound up.
Dargo sheathed his sword as anyone who approached his got his head cut off without the Dark Elf unsheathing his weapon.
Zephyr blocked two Dogs before stomping the ground, creating a gust of wind that threw them off her.
Ethan took one of the two flasks he pocketed before leaving and broke it at his feet, creating a small explosion that turned some of his assailants into stone.
The Inquisitor noticed that Traysek was about to say something and quickly grabbed his head, "You expose yourself a lot." he grinned, "Letting everything in existence know your weaknesses." he then threw him away as a group of both Knights and Dogs circled him.
Once he landed, he found himself surrounded and cut off, smirking as he activated his flame cloak, igniting those that would get close while he dashed towards the disfigured man, "FUS, RO DAH!" he roared, turning those close enough to mush the blast rag dolling the inquisitor into a tree.
Traysek used this momentum and slammed the scythe blade into the ground, discharging a wave toward the downed inquisitor.
The inquisitor got up on his feet, rather quickly despite his look, and jumped above the wave before landing a few feet away while planting a scepter on the ground that disappeared at the same time with multiple colors.
"This is the Rod of Despair." the inquisitor grinned, "Every beneficial magic, will harm your allies. And even your harmful spell will still hurt. And if you, or your allies, try to do anything to dissipate the effect, you won't like what's going to happen."
Music ends...
Dargo dropped his weapon as his hands were encased in ice, "Frostbite..."
Zephyr began to cough violently and Ethan dropped on one knee, tired.
"I am an Inquisitor for a reason." the inquisitor grinned.
Lucien's magic fizzled, making him drop as the Atronachs disappeared. Yuriana's phantom also vanished, with her hitting the ground as well without her magic. The others who didn't use magic simply went to their knees out of energy due to the storm.
"What...? is this...?" Erik croaked out, "I was just...fine..."
"My magic...it's..." Yuriana coughed, "What's happening to our magic...?"
And Traysek...? Well...He had the unfortunate luck of having the flame cloak on...
"What...?" watching everyone else go down before his hands lit aflame, and then his entire body was engulfed, "Oh shit-AAAAAAAARRRGHHHHH!" he screamed in agony, rolling around on the ground until it went out, leaving him smoking on the ground partially covered in burns, coughing and wheezing, "Gods...what... was that...? My own magic burned me...how...?" He struggled out.
"You're no different than the Kletzkrieg." Horak laughed before adding, "I defeated so many of them by turning their powers against them. And now, it's your turn."
At the same moment, many knights and an old man encircled the group.
"What's going on here!?" he looked around before noticing the people rescued from the prison city.
The Redguard weakly glanced up at the new knights and their commander, frowning at the strange gold armor, before glancing back up at the inquisitor who had his attention off him. Taking this chance, he drew his Daedric pistol and fired three shots, hitting the inquisitor in the shoulder, and two in the legs, making him stumble back and fall.
"Bet...they never...had these...did they?" painfully smirking.
"What in the name of the Erdtree is this?!" the old man asked with fury, "Who's the one responsible!?"
Traysek struggled to stand, pointing his gun down at the inquisitor, "They...are...this is their compound, we just...freed the...people..."
"And they're all sick..." Lucien struggled out, trying to stand but failing, "Godsdammit..."
The old knight looked at the inquisitor, who broke a stone and teleported away. At the same moment, the flower bloomed.
"That's..." the old man widens his eyes.
The Redguard turned to the direction he was gaping at, eyes going wide as well as a great breeze coming through, the petals blowing all around them forcing everyone to cover their faces; a rotten stench thick in the air.
"Ugh...! What is that? it's smells like rotten corpses!" He gagged, with his face covered.
"Get outta here you idiots!" the old man roared as some of his men helped the rescued people and the downed adventurers, "It can't be her... if she was here, it would be heard of... dammit."
The Redguard sheathed both his gun and scythe, getting grabbed by Niall's men, "It wasn't a woman...it was some strange knight in white armor, had yellow eyes...I trapped him in stone earlier..."
"Dunno who it can be... but to be able to use the Scarlet Aeonia... not good." the old knight narrowed his eyes as his soldiers gave some sort of berries to the people.
"Sir..." one of them walked to him, "Some of the survivors were too weak to keep going...
Music - Come and see - Katana Zero
the old man walked and found the majority of those who died to be children.
Traysek noticed the void stare as he was being carried to a safer area, watching the winds pick up but this time, it was coming from the old knight, glancing at the dead children as well, 'Gods...so many...why...?" hearing thunder rumbling.
With a roar, he charged at the Dogs and the Holy Knights, slaughtering them.
"Sir! Please stop!" some knights went and stopped the old man before he could continue.
"Lemme at 'em!" he yelled as he tried to get to the others who were cowering in fear, "They don't deserve to live!"
The crew could say nothing as they were carried off, Recorder in tears but too tired to sob, watching them cover the child she held with a sheet. the rest had their eyes shadowed over, not wanting to look back...Traysek was the only one that kept an eye back there, watching the commander rage, trying to tear the remaining men apart.
'Did we fail...? No... we rescued Bruk'daz's daughter, but it doesn't feel like we succeeded either...I don't know... what to call this...' He mused, before turning around, as they were carried back to Ulak Village...
To be continued...
That...was the darkest chapter we've written, as well as the finale to this ARC, hard to stomach writing this, to be honest... As you may have guessed, yes the entire crew, (Including the Kletzkreig and the other people with them) all contracted Scarlet rot. As for how Traysek was burned (Severely) by his own fire cloak, even with the resistance against fire, that staff that inquisitor used turned all aspects of magic against them, even their resistances... much as their bodies, the magic users in their group sustained injuries from it...So since that happened, the next chapter will mostly be on Rey's investigation while they recover since we couldn't squeeze any more in...so keep an eye out for the next segment, as well as Gideon Ofnir making more appearances, he has a role in this story but that will be revealed at another time... stay safe and the may the gods...watch over your stories :)
