Broken Glasses and Bad Nicknames
"I can't wait to get a drink.", said Payback as him, Fanboy, and Phoenix hopped out of Roosters truck.
"We've gotta get faster, that course is just too low.", said Fanboy as they walked through the sand sprinkled parking lot.
"We'll get there guys. Maverick knows what he's doing.", said Phoenix.
Hangmans notorious laugh cut off what Rooster started to say.
"Looks like we won and you're buyin!", Hangman exclaimed happily as him and Coyote hopped out of his Jeep.
"You were speeding half the time!", said Rooster taking off his sunglasses and sliding them on the rim of his shirt.
"Ooh I guess you should've established the rules before we started. I'll take a Heineken.", cockily spoke the ever grinning Hangman.
Rooster shook his head and rolled his eyes as they all headed toward the entrance to their very favorite bar. Suddenly out the front door came four junior grade lieutenants tumbling quite ungracefully. They muttered curse words as they found their footing. One of them wiped a trickle of blood from his lip as the other touched his swelling eye with a hiss. It wasn't hard to guess what Penny threw them out for.
They wanted to laugh at the four pathetic men but decided it was better to just walk into the bar without causing trouble. The death glares they received as they passed them to open the door were enough to wipe away their smirks and the witty words Hangman was about to let slip.
Through the people they shuffled toward the pool table where Bob was to meet them. He was there alright. He sat on his usual stool holding his glasses that were bent and shattered. His shirt was disheveled and a small amount of blood stained his knuckles. The aviators looked at each other with pure unfiltered shock and maybe a little pride?
"Bob is that because of you?", said Phoenix surprised as she pointed toward the door.
"Whoa no way it can't be! Bob in a fight? No no way.", said Hangman with a wild laugh.
"Who were those guys?", asked Rooster.
Bob sighed. "Just some jerks I knew back from Lamoore. I guess they thought I was an easy target. On top of that I don't think they liked me getting a higher rank than them and being sent to Top Gun.", he said as he fiddled with his demolished glasses and fixed his shirt. A few strands of loose hair still fell haphazardly over his forehead.
"Well it looks like you got some good punches in, especially for four against one.", said Phoenix resisting to fix his collar.
"Yeah.", Bob said with a half-hearted smile.
"I'll get you a beer.", said Coyote patting him on the shoulder.
"So how'd it start?", asked Payback as beers were passed around and Hangman started to chalk his pool que.
"Uh they saw me across the bar and yelled uh...this name they used to call me and I knew who it was without having to look at em'. Penny looked from them to me with a look I didn't want to mess with. When they tried to start something I tried backing em' down but..", continued Bob.
"But what?", pushed Fanboy.
"Well uh..", he said scratching his head awkwardly. "It was just something they said...a-about Phoenix.", he said looking at her for just a moment slightly bashfully .
"Well thank you Bob. I guess chivalry isn't dead after all.", said Phoenix knowing he knew she could take anything just like the rest of them, but he would defend her no matter what.
"I thought we weren't supposed to be chivalrous.", said Fanboy.
"You're not. Bob gets away with it though. He knows better than anyone I can take care of myself.", she replied.
"What name?", said Rooster.
"Hmm?", asked Bob.
"What name did they call you?", asked Rooster.
"Uh it doesn't matter.", he replied.
"Come on how bad could it be?", said Hangman not making eye contact as he made another shot.
"Yeah just tell us already.", said Coyote.
Suddenly the bar door opened again as a head popped in with a bleeding split lip. "Better watch your back baby on board! I'll bring more of my boys when you least expect-", he started saying before Rooster shot him a warning look and Penny yelled for him to stay out.
"Don't worry Bob we got your back. They don't call me Payback for nothing. Though it looks like you don't do too bad on your own, he actually looked scared.".
Bob nodded a thanks. He looked at Hangman for just a second who had an unreadable expression on his face.
"Look Hangman I know what you're thinkin but it's different.", said Bob with sincerity. Hangman dropped his shoulders a bit and smiled.
"Well good cuz I've thought about it for longer than I care to admit and cannot think of anything that Bob could possibly stand for. Here I thought I was original.", Hangman replied.
"Uh how about best official backseater. Oh or beer on bagman!", said Phoenix as her and the others laughed.
"Fair enough, though Rooster's still paying for mine.", he retorted.
"I don't know you're all blurry enough already. I don't think beer would much help.", joked Bob.
"Is that because they broke your glasses or got one in on you?", asked Coyote with a smirk.
"Punch me? Please, I'm in Top Gun.".
A/N: Purr!! (as my hip sister Sarah would say). I mean he had a point! Mic drop moment? Or is that too 2010? This is a new chapter I've added between original chapters I posted because I need it to work timeline wise. Super cute imagining them see him all ruffled up and his cute glasses broken, don't worry he has a spare that look just like his originals.(: How cute would it be seeing those guys come back and try fighting bob again and all of them especially rooster and hangman being all protective and stuff eeh! But I still wanted to show a tough strong Bob cuz we can't have him looking weak in front of the cool kids, he is in the Navy after all.
p.s. in case it didnt come off, hangman feels bad that he calls him baby on board because those jerks used to call him that in a much meaner way
