It was early morning, and Emma was not feeling great. It was hot and Humid in Portland. She never understood her mother's refusal to leave Maine. She said that Maine would be where their family was.
But damn the unseasonably hot summer. Global warming was real. She had a pain in her lower back that radiated to her belly. "Wow, Kid you are really cramping my style here" She mumbled as the cramp intensified while she walked to the kitchen.
"Mom…" Emma stated
"Good morning," Her mother said and at the sound of his grandmother's voice, the baby flipped inside his mother and Emma could feel a trickle of liquid down her leg.
"Ow…" Emma said, folding forward.
"Emma? Are you okay?" Her mother asked coming to her side.
"Ugh, He's coming!" Emma shouted. Her magic makes the lights flicker. They had found Emma's magic during a temper tantrum when she was three. They didn't see the flicker often.
"Okay!" She said and reached for her Motorola Razr to call August. "Augie it's time, Meet us at the hospital."
The emergency plan was activated, and the birth went as smoothly as possible. And when they offered the baby to Emma. She pressed the little boy to her skin. She kissed his little head and allowed him to take comfort in her. She mourned her baby as she memorized the feel of her son pressed against her.
It was an hour before the baby was taken from her. She cried as he was taken but she knew that at least he had felt a mother's love the first hour of his life. His grandmother followed him to the nursery and made sure something about why his mother had left him followed the child. He needed to know how loved he was. She had taken a picture of them, and later on, she made sure she gave the picture to be in his file. Hoping his parents will at least give him that comfort.
Then she returned to comfort her inconsolable child.

On his mother's 18th Birthday, Henry Mills got his name. He had felt her love. It was a seed planted in his heart and a magic link she had given him without knowing fully what she had done.
The little boy Felt her love every day. And on her 18th birthday. When Regina Mills became his mother. He cried in protest. He could not forget He would not forget or let go.
It was hard for him to understand why this woman Held him the same way this was not his mother. But she was nice… and after a few days… When his new mother felt some despair… He smiled. Because She loved him too. Just like his mother had.
In Boston, Emma had entered Boston College. She needed to do something with her life now that her baby was gone.
Maybe she could study something that will help her find her family.
