The Blind Huntsman
Chapter 79
Volume 2, Episode 20
You know it's going to be a good one when I don't have to look back to the previous chapter to see which episode we're at. Ha!
Kai dropped down to his knees and screamed, clamping his hands over his ears and feeling the blood slowly drip out of them as they rang so loudly he couldn't hear anything other than resounding tinnitus going off for what felt like a few painful minutes. When it softened down enough for him to be able to take his hands away and get back up to his feet, his hands came back bloody. His senses were all blown out of whack because of the constant vibrations and sound waves bouncing off each of the metal walls more times than he could even perceive.
"Warned you, kid," Roman said with a disappointed sigh. "This place was built just to deal with senses like yours. Do that a few more times, and you should be able to add deaf to your list of major disabilities."
"Y-you… bastard!" Kai snarled as he stood back on his feet, clenching his fists angrily. Neo dashed in suddenly and delivered a palm strike directly into his chest, pushing him back hard and far enough for his back to slam up against the wall behind him, creating another loud sound that was akin to someone smashing a hammer against a large cymbal, only that the sound that would resonate from that cymbal constantly bounced across the metal walls. Making the sound many times worse at least. When he landed back on his feet the sound wasn't as bad, but it made him wince and freeze up as he felt like his brain was being pierced through his ears.
"Ah, ah, ah," Roman tsked at him. "Neo, do be sure to be gentle with him. We need those eyes of his and those won't be worth much if he can't rely on one of those very important senses of his."
Neo turned toward the one-way glass and gave Roman a cheesy smirk before nodding her head. Facing Kai again, she stepped back and let him get back onto his feet while she took a relatively lazy stance. Kai grit his teeth and shook the ringing out of his ears, which only made it worse. His senses slowly came back to him and he was able to tell where Neo was and what she was doing. He cursed to himself as he reached for a weapon subconsciously only to find that it wasn't there, and cursed again when he realized that using his semblance in a tight space like this would be more detrimental to him than it would be for his opponent. The first time his ears began to ring as a result of that. So, his semblance was out, as the only element available to him was air, and unless he wanted to make himself deaf that wasn't going to be a good idea. The fire was out as well, as he didn't equip the device Ruby made to feed him flames, and after the battle in Vale, he was all out of flames. He doubted that he could even get a spark to produce. Anything like rocks or the concrete was also out of the picture, as that was blocked behind all this metal. While he figured that he could manipulate the metal, it would be far too slow and time-consuming. With an opponent like Neo to fight against at the same time, he wouldn't be able to get it done fast enough before she was on him again.
This was the worst place and time for him to get into a fight like this. The analytical side of his mind told him. In terms of raw skill when it came to weapon combat, Neo was his equal, maybe even better. His admittedly overpowered semblance always gave him the edge on her, but like this, he was almost completely at her mercy. The only way he could fight back was to fight with his fists. All that hand to hand combat training with Yang had to come in handy here. At the very least, he should be much stronger than Neo, and heavier too. His strikes should hit harder.
Neo seemed to feel amused when he raised his fists and started inching his way toward her. They circled each other for a moment until Neo jabbed forward. Bouncing her fist off of Kai's cheek before reeling back and flexibly twisted out of the way of his counter strike. As his arm was still extended, she kicked him in the hip and ducked his converted elbow strike, landing two more blows to his body before he even had time to bring his arms down to guard himself.
He was wrong. Neo was far better than him in unarmed combat. It didn't matter that he was bigger and stronger if he couldn't even hit her! Gritting his teeth, he took a specially defensive position as Neo continued to jab and punch at him. Hitting his guard all over the place and attacking any vulnerable place that Kai left unguarded. He only had two arms and couldn't hope to defend every single attack that Neo threw at him. His only solace was that Neo didn't have a whole lot of power behind her strikes, and he still had a vast majority of his aura left to rely on. Her strikes would only begin to do sufficient damage if he didn't have his aura to defend his body, and if she didn't have an aura around her hands and feet, she'd be breaking them against it. All he had to do was wait and defend himself as well as he could and wait for her to start getting tired. It may take several painful minutes, but as long as he-
RIIIING
Kai screamed as he let go of his guard down in an attempt to cover his ears again. He didn't know what happened, but Roman must have played something through the intercom again. Something that caused him to reach his hands back up to the sides of his head and squeeze down in a desperate effort to stop the pain in his ears. That proved to be a mistake as Neo thrust her fist into his stomach, bypassing his distracted aura and making him blow out all of the air from his lungs in a ragged gasp. Spittle leaked down his chin as he bent over his stomach, the pain of an unexpectedly powerful strike from Neo proving to be surprisingly excruciating.
"I did warn ya, didn't I?" Roman said through the intercom. "This place was built with the sole purpose of putting you at a massive disadvantage. Hear that?" Again, Kai cried out as he felt his eardrums go on the verge of bursting as Roman flicked a switch, letting out a loud ringing noise that must have been set to a specific frequency with the sole purpose of torturing him. "I can do that as many times as I want, which as you can imagine, opens you up quite a bit! Let me put it this way for ya, as you are screaming and clutching on to your head like a crazy person locked in solitary confinement, you subconsciously pull your aura up to your head to heal the damage going on in your ears. Which as you can imagine, makes you quite vulnerable to attack by my pretty diminutive associate here. It doesn't affect her either since she's human and only animals and faunus with extreme hearing such as yourself can pick up the high frequency that I am setting this nice little device here too."
Just as he explained, Kai tried to sense out his aura, only to widen his eyes slightly as he found out that Roman wasn't bluffing. His aura was up high above his torso, practically all of it. Which pretty much rendered it useless against Neo's aura encased fists as they were easily able to push through the extra thin layer of aura on his skin.
Was this why his father wore armour? Damn it, he should have been able to figure it out himself! With the thin clothing he had on now, Neo would have no problem hurting him through it. He could feel the bruise on his stomach form as he continued to hold that spot on his body, wheezing and spitting up excess spittle and fragments of vomit as what he ate for dinner that night came back up to haunt him.
The realization came to him next. Fighting like this was going to lead to his defeat. Everything was stacked against him, and for once he couldn't just adapt to it and find some way to pull a win out of his ass. If they were trying to kill him instead of capturing him he would have already been killed. If Neo wasn't holding back, he would have been killed already. The knowledge of that angered him, but it wasn't like he could do anything about it. The super-sharpened senses that he has been spending his entire life building up were being used against him, and there was just no way he could fix that.
His still recovering senses started making him slow. His arms weren't fast enough to defend against the next dozen strikes that Neo delivered to him in the next few seconds, and he was barely able to catch himself when she delivered one final strike to his already bruised stomach after Roman caught him with another deafening sound wave.
He was defeated quickly in just a few more strikes after that. His aura was protecting the wrong areas and it seemed that they planned this perfectly just to defeat him. He slid back down the metal door behind him and coughed up blood, the effects of having his stomach stuck multiple times without the protection of aura by someone who had the enhancements of aura proved too much for him to handle. He was durable, but he could only take so much pain before his body gave out. His hands shook and he kept them near his ears, struggling to decide on whether or not they should protect his body or stop his ears from getting assaulted by those high-frequency sound waves again.
Neo stopped her assault and tilted her head at him. With what senses that Kai was able to recover, he could tell that she was feeling somewhat guilty for beating him down like that. For what!? Kai wanted to ask angrily. She was a murderer herself and she must have killed for far less, there was no point for her to be feeling guilty now. Not after everything she's done, not after everything she was going to get away with because he was stupid enough to actually follow her right into a trap like he knew was waiting for him as soon as he walked through those metal doors.
"Done now?" Roman asked through the intercom. Even the much softer sound of his voice proved to be somewhat painful, it had Kai wincing. "Oh yeah, I'm thinking he is." He let out a disappointed sigh. "I warned ya kid, I really did. I'm sure you'll recover from all that pain you must be feeling pretty quickly. You have a monstrously sized aura after all. For what it's worth I do feel a little bad for having to do this to you. Alrighty, Neo, knock him out and we'll go take him to the others to figure out what to do next."
Neo looked back at him and nodded her head. She moved toward Kai and as soon as she took the first step, she stopped and narrowed her eyes. Any guilty feeling she had washed away as she saw a dark color leak out of the corners of Kai's scrunched closed eyes.
Kai grit his teeth, angry tears leaking out of his eyes as he felt an agonizing pain in his stomach and ears. The pain of his old injuries that hadn't entirely healed from before flaring up again. To be beaten, without his aura even going out? No, not like this. Getting captured would without a doubt lead to his painful death by Cinder's hands. Everything he promised, everything he swore, it would all be broken! All because he was outsmarted and walked right into a trap. How was he going to destroy his enemies like this!? How was he going to do anything if he couldn't even beat just two criminals who are far less powerful than Cinder!? How, how, how, how, how-
Then came the snap. Kai felt it coming this time, forcing the power of his eyes to activate once again as a dark black wave of shadows shot out of his eyes like tendrils. Neo widened her eyes and dashed away, using her semblance to transport herself into the room Roman was in. Just barely getting out of the way in time before Kai let out another dark blast of his silver eyes. This time, he felt himself in control, this time he knew how to create it and bend it to his will. He closed his eyes and covered his eyes, feeling the strain of activating them already start to make his head heavy with exhaustion. Not now, not when he just created the perfect opportunity to escape for himself. Keeping his eyes closed, Kai stood up and stabbed his hands into the metal door that was locked behind him. Using his semblance to slowly pry an opening in the middle of it.
Too slow… He knew it before she even started merging herself back into the room. Kai snarled and lashed out, turning around and opening his eyes again. He sensed Neo teleport herself out of the room again, and Roman dive for cover in the back room. As soon as she was gone, he shut his eyes and willed the dark shadows under his control again. Growling and straining his muscles as he pried the opening more and more until it was big enough for him to squeeze through. Just for good measure without even sensing if anyone was outside or behind him, he opened his eyes and looked each way. Forcing them away as he pulled himself through the door and started rushing his way up the steps.
The metal gate to the steps slammed shut, but Kai was having none of it. Now that he was outside of that room, he threw his fist forward, and out came an explosion of air pressurized enough to be more than powerful to blow the gates off its hinges. He rushed up the steps and opened his eyes, destroying the nearby members of the White Fang he knew was directly in front of him without hesitation as they were rushing to get their weapons to shoot at him.
Then came the aftereffects of the power. He couldn't control it any longer and it went away in one final puff of shadows. His head formed a migraine that was made even worse because of the still ringing sound in his ears, and the pain in his stomach made him buckle over and fall onto his knees.
"Don't kill him!" Roman screamed to the surrounding members of the White Fang as he rushed up the steps after him. "He's a tough fish to reel in but we have him dead to rights!" Neo quickly followed and she immediately lunged for Kai as he held his head and stomach in pain, holding some kind of darkened bag with the intention of covering it over his head. They didn't know if it would work to stop Kai's eyes from destroying everyone around them, but they wouldn't know if they didn't at least try.
Neo never got close to Kai as a bird flew down and pecked her in the eye. If it weren't for her aura, she would have lost the eye entirely. The sudden attack was enough to throw her off balance and for her to fall down onto her face. Qrow transformed back into a human and picked Kai back up to his feet by his hood. "Get up!" He screamed as he shifted his weapon to allow his shotgun to fire back at the attacking White Fang. He used his own body and aura to stop any of the shots from hitting Kai. "We have to get out of here!"
"I… can't… t-too slow." Kai managed to say as he fought back the dizziness and exhaustion throughout his entire body and mind. Qrow turned to look at his current state and cursed as a wince of worry made him turn his back to the enemies and pick up Kai and throw him over his shoulder. Kai held on to Qrow's neck absentmindedly as Qrow made a run for it. Charging through the attacking White Fang as they made to block them in with his shoulder. He stopped when he spotted a familiar crack of glass hovering in mid-air, and swung Harbinger with one hand at it. Neo pushed away his blade with her thin sword and jumped back to get out of his reach, standing in front of him and blocking the way. Qrow looked back and saw Roman and a group of more elite White Fang at his back.
He chose what seemed to be the easier choice and rushed at Neo. Holding his thick and wide sword out to protect his vital areas. Neo seemed to have let out a silent curse as she stabbed at him with her sword, aiming for his knees. Qrow knew that was what she was going to aim for and focused most of his aura down there to prevent any kind of damage. Neo's thin and light sword bounced off his knee and she staggered back, getting further knocked off balance when Qrow shoved her out of the way with his sword. She nearly fell but Roman caught her just before she could.
"We can't let them get away," Roman said through his already opened scroll. "You two, you're up! We don't know when we're going to get another chance like this. He'll never respond to us again!"
Neo knew who he was talking to and what his intentions were and darted forward to the street that Qrow was running to with Kai on his back, still holding on tightly. She used her semblance and moved as a near-invisible shard of glass and went past Qrow. She continued to the top of a building so she could observe the upcoming battle and see when she could find an opening. However, there was something off. A feeling in the back of her mind that she got when anyone she didn't trust - which was everybody besides Roman - that there was someone behind her.
She turned around just in time to gasp and raise her sword as a black figure with yellow eyes swung her short blade at her. Their weapons clashed and Neo let out a gasp as she was pushed back to the edge of the building, losing her balance as her new attacker continued to force the blade lock.
"Shit," Qrow said as he came to a stop as his shoe skid across the pavement. "You two, eh? This is quite the party." He looked around to the suddenly formed half-circle of White Fang terrorists with two key figures in the middle of the formation. Two people that he couldn't quite forget no matter how badly he wanted to.
Adam placed a hand on the hilt of his sword to prepare a drawing strike as Mercury shrugged his shoulders and raised his fists. One of them, Qrow felt he could defeat on his own while the other he felt that he was equal to. Both of them at the same time though? Qrow didn't like his chances, especially when those two also had the help of Neo, Roman, and a few dozen terrorists.
"Stop right there, huntsman," Adam said as he stepped up, closely shadowed by Mercury. Qrow took a step back, but something stopped him as he heard something crash down from behind them. At first, he feared that it was Kai, but when he looked back he saw a blade lock between a familiar cat faunus girl and Neo as the latter stopped a short black blade from stabbing into her chest. Neo eventually kicked the girl off of her, but she flipped through the air instead and landed beside Qrow.
"B-Blake!?" Kai questioned as he slid off of Qrow's shoulder. He couldn't mistake that scent, it was way too distinct and belonged to a cat faunus he has spent so much time with. "What are you doing here!?"
"That's my line," Blake said as she pushed her back up against Qrow, Kai doing the same on a different side. He was exhausted, but he'd still fight as well as his body would allow him. "I have more than a dozen questions for you now, but I'll save that for later."
"And yet another joins the fray," Roman interrupted before Kai could reply to his partner. "Is there any more that I should worry about? Should I expect the two red ones next? Maybe there's a whole team of you little shits hiding behind that car over there?" He helped up Neo with one hand, looking around to make sure that there actually wasn't anyone else hiding around ready to attack. He glared at Kai specifically when he saw no one else. "You are making this a lot harder than it needs to be Little Kai, look at what's going on around you now. You're exhausted, beaten, and your friends here can't fight us all at the same time. If you just hand yourself over, we'll let the others escape with their lives, you want that right? For your friends and loved ones to live? Well, this is the time to follow up on that idealistic philosophy of yours."
"I wouldn't give him the chance," Qrow replied before he could. "I'm sort of dating his mom. If I let him go now I'd never hear the end of it."
"And that is the consequence of mixing business with pleasure," Mercury said as he nudged Adam, earning a snarl back as the bull faunus glared at him through his mask. "Just face it, you've lost. We're not trying to be the bad guys here, for once at least. Come on, how about you? The one with the cat ears, your name is… uh… something I'm sure I'll remember later." Blake turned and glared at Mercury over her shoulder. She remembered him from three years ago. He was still as annoying and sociopathic as before when he, Cinder, and Emerald came to recruit the White Fang to do their vile deeds. "Didn't you leave the White Fang so you didn't have to hurt anyone anymore?"
"I did," Blake shamelessly admitted, glancing at Adam as she turned back toward Neo and Roman. Trusting Kai and Qrow to cover the other two flanks. "But I will not stand idly by as they slaughter innocents. Not anymore."
"Ugh… whatever, can't say I didn't try." Mercury said as he raised his fists again.
"Cut off all possible escape routes," Adam ordered the surrounding terrorists. "Do not engage in close combat with any of these three. You will lose. Just keep your weapons trained on their positions and fire at will. They have nowhere to run, not this time." He aimed that last sentence at Blake, who still refused to look at him.
"Alrighty then," Roman stepped forward, waving a hand across his body as he regarded everyone. "Everyone, remember! We are here to capture, not kill. Leave the other two alive if possible but knock out the blind kid and cover his face whenever you can. We don't want any more surprises. Let's make this quick, people! We are running out of the darkness of night and my bribes can only go so far!"
"Yeah?" Qrow asked as he looked around. He thought of his chances, with an exhausted Kai and Blake as his allies. They were good, but so was Adam Taurus, Mercury Black, Neo, and Torchwick. Perhaps if Kai wasn't in such a sorry state they might have stood a chance, but now…? "Let's see about that," He said as he brought up his scroll, pushing down on a button that caused an arrangement of explosions that rang out from all over the surrounding buildings.
A reckless plan, that was certain. As Kai went down into the little basement that was the metal box, Qrow was busy. He planted explosives that he carried with him without telling Kai as a last resort. In key spots of the buildings where he knew no one innocent would be. Though, given the fact that most of the people in those buildings were probably members of the White Fang, if anyone was hurt, it was only those who had it coming. The explosions caught everyone off guard, even him and his little group of allies. Qrow grabbed Kai and Blake by the cuffs of their necks and pulled them with him as he dove forward, dodging a large brick of debris as it landed where they once stood. Most of the White Fang closest to the sidewalk was buried alive, but as for everyone else they became mostly invisible within the large cloud of dust and smoke that exploded outward as the large parts of the surrounding buildings fell into the street.
Somehow Neo was able to find them throughout the surprise attack, but Qrow locked blades with her and easily overpowered her as Blake helped Kai run deeper into the smoke. Neo realized the vast difference in strength and allowed herself to be thrown away, disappearing into the cloud of smoke as Qrow turned back and ran back toward Blake and Kai in what he hoped was their general direction.
"S-someone get rid of this shit!" He somehow heard Roman scream over all the panic.
"I'm on it!" He heard a deep voice scream back.
The dust cloud took on the color red and Qrow was already diving to the floor without so much of a second thought. Thankfully, just as he fell the large arc of red and black energy waved right over him, cutting through the smoke and hopefully not through Blake and Kai as they were sure to have recognized Adam's semblance. Though Adam's attack as deadly as it was at that time wasn't meant to hurt them but to disperse the smoke and dust that were kicked up and forming the hard to see through the cloud that was protecting them from view. With a curse, Qrow blindly fired his weapon at Adam and rushed back up to his feet. He had Blake and Kai's backs in his view, which meant that they were getting away. With Blake helping Kai, they would escape even if being chased. He could already hear the sirens of police cars turning the corner before they were even in view. Help had arrived, just as he knew it would after setting off those explosives.
This was the worst-case scenario for that night, he and Kai knew it. But this was preferable to the other bad scenario where Qrow and Blake are defeated and Kai is kidnapped by Roman and the White Fang.
The White Fang behind him that weren't immediately buried by the falling rubble turned their weapons on the police. Shooting at them as they took cover behind their car doors and vehicles. Blake and Kai dove for the adjacent sidewalk and covered their heads as bullets whizzed over their heads. Qrow flashed his huntsman license toward the police as he shot back at Adam and Mercury behind him, who was still trying to push through and attack him in a last-ditch effort to get to Kai.
They stopped when within the next minute, Ironwood's Atlesian soldiers came into view. Much more armored and with training and aura perfect for taking down members of the White Fang and in large squadrons like this and together with their battle droids, it would be enough to force even Adam and Mercury to take cover.
The tides quickly turned as a gunfight broke out in the middle of Vale's upper-class district, and the White Fang no longer had the numbers to fight back with an equal force. With a quick curse, Qrow heard Adam order his White Fang to retreat, and for them to disappear back into the smoke and dust cloud that Qrow created with his explosions from before. Roman and Neo were nowhere to be seen, and with Kai and Blake still taking cover behind him, he knew that they weren't being sneaky in trying to flank them all.
"I'm a huntsman!" Qrow shouted as he turned and ran for Blake and Kai, flashing his license from his scroll again.
"Huntsman identified." The Atlesian Knights said as they registered his license. "Moving in to recover."
The Atlesian soldiers and police officers pushed with the droids as they pushed forward. Quickly catching up to Blake, Kai, and Qrow and defending them. "What the hell are you guys doing here!?" The captain of the squad asked as they pulled them back. "Were you the ones who caused that explosion or was it the White Fang?"
"It was me," Qrow admitted freely. "I had no choice, we were surrounded. It was the only way to get them off our backs while also giving you lot a convenient beacon to follow."
"Yeah, some beacon it is." The captain scoffed. "Even though you're a huntsman, I am still going to have to restrain you because of that- wait a second… are these students?" He cut himself off as he caught Kai and Blake within his line of sight. "Students of Beacon? I remember that one, you're that blind kid, aren't you?"
Kai didn't answer, he just kept his head down and hoped they wouldn't notice.
"You are, aren't you?"
"Yeah, yeah, fanboy over him later," Qrow said as he extended an arm out to block the soldier from Kai. "You want to restrain me? Go right ahead, but don't-"
"Suspect recognized." One of the Atlesian Knights said as it scanned over Kai. Qrow's eyes widened as Kai's heart skipped a beat at the same time. He was wrong earlier, this was the worst-case scenario they should have feared for.
Even Blake seemed to know what was going to come next, even though she looked like she didn't want to believe it either. As the Atlesian Knight walked toward them with its gaze locked on Kai, they all knew what was coming next even before it raised its weapon and aimed at Kai.
"Reported Criminal-Vigilante of Vale known as Stone Face recognized. Halt, or else I will be forced to open fire."
"Shit…" Qrow said as he raised his hands in surrender.
"W-wait," Kai tried, doing the same. "I'm not-"
"Kai," Qrow hissed his name. "Stop, we're caught, don't fight. Not against them."
Kai felt bad that he even thought about it. He could fight back if he wanted to prevent his own arrest, but against Atlesian soldiers and police officers just doing their jobs? No, that was a line he couldn't cross.
"K-Kai," Blake sucked in air through her teeth, her eyes glass and her heart shattered as a truth she feared finally came to light. "Y-you're Stone Face?"
Kai felt devastated just by hearing the horrified tone she spoke in. Closing his eyes and surrendering to his fate, he nodded his head.
"You were at the docks," Blake said next, realizing a chain of events and all the lies that he had told recurring in her mind. "Every time you came back hurt… smelling different, looking different… I-..." She cut herself off, unable to look at him anymore. She hardly even had time to properly process the news as the policemen and soldiers turned toward them.
"You're that Stone Face guy, huh?" The Atlesian captain said as he pushed past Qrow, a pair of handcuffs in his hands as he looked down at Kai. "Damn it, the best ones are always the ones with darkest secrets. You're under arrest, Stone Face, true name Kai Matsuoka. For carrying out huntsman business without a license, multiple accounts of murder, deceit, and resisting arrest. You will be tried in a court of law, and you will…" The soldier went on to tell him his rights, but Kai barely listened to them. All he could think about was how wrong that night had turned out. All because of a string of mistakes he'd made… all starting from accepting Roman's offer. He couldn't even blame the master criminal or Neo for that matter. They even warned him not to fight. If he just played along and let them think that he was on board for whatever plan they had for him, then things would have turned out very differently. He could have outsmarted them, could have used them somehow. But no, he didn't, he didn't because he was bloodthirsty and wanted to make them pay for what they did in Mistral.
I'm hopeless… Kai thought as he hung his head and let the soldier place the cuffs on him. I didn't make anything better like this… I just made it worse.
"Qrow Branwen, were you aware of this?" The soldier asked him as he turned Kai around and kept a hand tightly gripping his shoulder.
"I was," Qrow freely admitted.
"No…" Kai suddenly felt the urge to cry. "He didn't, he's lying."
"I knew," Qrow said, more firmly this time. "Even helped him a few times. If you're arresting him, then you'd have to arrest me too."
"Hmph," The soldier flicked his head to one of his squadmates. "Than you're under arrest as well. We'll be taking you all up to the General's flagship hovering above Vale since he set out a warrant for Stone Face previously. You too," He said as he looked to Blake.
"Wait. C'mon, I understand me and the kid, but her too?" Qrow interrupted. "She didn't know what was happening! She was just trying to help her partner!"
"Was she involved in this little stunt of yours tonight? Knowing of it before or after the fact?" The captain asked.
"A-after," Blake admitted herself. "But I had my suspicions before, I just wanted to confirm it for myself and see it with my own eyes…"
"You should have come to us about it," The captain said. "You withheld crucial information about a wanted criminal, even if you intended it or not, you were also an accomplice in assisting him tonight. I won't be placing you under arrest, but I am sure the General and the headmaster of Beacon would like to share some words with you after they speak to him. I'm going to have to ask you to come with me, or else you'll be escorted back to Beacon under supervision to be spoken to later."
"I-I'll come," Blake said. The way she spoke had Kai feeling even worse about this turn of events. Not even Qrow could do anything about it, for he was under arrest as well, and doing anything would not only lose him his license but also earn him a spot in prison. There were strict rules when it came to huntsmen and huntresses, and attacking an officer or soldier was not only against their oath which would lead to an immediate discharge but a felony and a hefty punishment.
And he had broken that law and performed a crime that was heavily frowned upon in each kingdom. He would be marked a rogue huntsman now, and he would be lucky if he was ever going to be able to step a foot into an academy again. At best if Ozpin vouched for him and pulled some strings, he might be able to get out of jail time, but not as a student of Beacon any longer.
That was simply it… He was done. There was nothing he could do.
He felt even more defeated as a heavily armed group of soldiers walked him, Blake, and Qrow into the back of an armored car. Then began taking them to a depot where they would be transported to Ironwood's ship via Bullhead.
Well, well, well, it finally happened. I am sure that this is a moment that a lot of you were waiting for. I went with a different approach and tried to create a way for Kai to get defeated, and at the same time get his ass kicked. I had this bad habit throughout the story of making Kai too powerful, I mean, plenty of you had already pointed it out in reviews. Although he is NOWHERE near as powerful as some of you like to mention, his semblance basically carries him when it comes to battling anyone. So, this was my way of giving him a heavy defeat that was honestly on its way for a long time. Kai has been a little too trigger happy lately, and too much has been going right for him. (Relatively, of course)
How will his friends take this? Ozpin? His mother and sister? We'll find that out soon enough, see you all next time, and thank you for reading!
