Senna and Terra made their way back into the castle, as she hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast yesterday and she could no longer ignore her stomach's calling. Luckily Terra didn't say anything, but she saw the laugh he was trying to hide.
The moment they entered, the first thing they saw was Ven happily chasing around her three fairies.
"So those must be your fairies" Terra stated watching the scene in amusement.
"Yeah, no surprise that they took quite a liking to one another."
Before Terra could respond, Ven noticed them and quickly made his way over to the two of them.
"Hey so did you guys make up already" he asked, already knowing the answer by his wide smile.
"Everything is fine Ven, we talked it out and-" Terra began to say before Rikku, Yuna, and Paine flew right in front of him, mere inches from his face. It caused him to take a step back in surprise.
Senna let out a chuckle as she put a hand over her face, cringing at what they were about to say to Terra.
"Terra those are Rikku, Yuna, and Paine, my three fairy familiars."
Terra got over his surprise and smiled as he was about to reciprocate the introduction until Rikku and Yuna started in their enthusiasm
"Oh, my goodness, look how cute he is Rikku," Yuna said with her hands on her face as she took in the sight of Terra.
"Look at those muscles, they are so tight."
Terra felt a bit self-conscious as they just flew around him and eyed him up "Um"
Paine just crossed her arms with an impressive look on her face "Now this is what a real man looks like."
Senna just pinched the bridge of her nose, as Rikku came up to her ear and started to whisper something to her.
"Rikku" Senna gasped, as she quickly flickered the small fairy away, causing her to shriek as she flew back.
Ven took notice of Senna's face "What's wrong, Senna your face is all red."
Senna turned away from them "Nothing, I'm going to go and eat now. I haven't eaten anything since yesterday."
She didn't even wait to see if Ven or Terra were going to follow her, she just wanted to get out of the room to save her from further embarrassment.
Once she arrived in the dining hall, she was happy to see Aqua with some food already prepared on the table. Though it seems she had already eaten, and was currently sketching something in a notepad.
"Hey Aqua what are you sketching there" She asks as she sits down and immediately grabs a plate and starts piling some food on it.
Aqua looked up and smiled "How are you feeling, any better."
"Oh yes, just hungry more than anything right now," Senna said as she took a bite from one of the buns.
"That's good, by the way, I ran into your little fairy friends when I came back in and they are such a lively bunch, Ven sure is having a good time with them. Can you summon more at once or are you limited to a certain number of familiars"
She swallowed and quickly wiped her mouth "I'm limited unfortunately, though Yuna, Rikku, and Paine are the exception to that rule because their powers are so intertwined with each other. I would like to try and find a way to summon them all at once, but that will take some time."
I need to find a way to allow them to reside in this world permanently.
Her mind went back to those visions that she had before she passed out, her father had a knack for predicting things but it wasn't like what she experienced. She hoped deep down that maybe it was just a coincidence, but in this situation with the boy with the mask, she didn't want to take any chances it was too risky. She'd rather be safe than sorry, should these visions come to fruition or not.
"So, what were you drawing anyway" Senna asked after she finished eating most of what was on her plate and felt significantly better, now that she had some food in her.
Aqua moved her notepad over to Senna so she could see "I'm not sure if Terra told you or not, but our Mark of Mastery exam will be taking place next month."
"Really, that soon," Senna asked happy for the both of them, especially Terra this was something he had been looking forward to and now he was one step closer to realizing his dream.
"Yeah, so I wanted to make good luck charms for all of us, despite you not being a keyblade wielder and Ven won't be taking his exam for at least a couple more years since he was behind on his training when he first arrived here."
Senna opened up the notepad and her eyes widened by the designs. She had 4 star-shaped designs, but only 3 of them were colored in. One was blue, green, and orange, with the last looking exactly like the one Terra was holding in the other vision.
"I read somewhere out there's this tree with a star-shaped fruit, and that fruit represents an unbreakable connection. So long as we carry good luck charms shaped like this nothing can ever drive us apart, like an unbreakable connection."
A single teardrop fell onto the page, causing Senna to put her hand up to wipe away any more that was threatening to fall.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to stain your page," she said handing Aqua her notepad back.
Aqua didn't look worried, probably already realizing why she was tearing up over the gesture.
"This is only a rough sketch anyway; I'll still have a month to get these finished up. I wanted to keep it a surprise for you as well, but I was having trouble deciding the color for yours. I didn't think you would appreciate Red or Purple all things considered, so I wanted to ask you what color you would prefer."
If she was being honest, she never really paid much attention to any other colors, she mostly focused on the ones that gave her the most grief, but they were also the ones that she found to be the most beautiful ones as well.
Senna couldn't help but let out a chuckle "It's funny, I've always had such mixed feelings over those colors, particularly Red because, on the one hand, I've been judged a lot because of the color of my eyes but on the other hand some of my favorite views have it in it, so I can't completely hate it.
She then paused as she carefully chose her next words.
"You know being here has helped me realize that not everyone will think so little of me just because my eyes are red, and won't make the worst assumptions based on that alone. It's just knowing where to look."
Aqua reached over and put a hand on top of hers "That's their loss, they missed out on knowing such a wonderful and beautiful girl like you. Anyone would be lucky enough to have your friendship."
Senna smiled and closed her eyes for a second, not being used to being called beautiful, aside from her parents who were going to be biased about it. She would usually recoil when anyone said anything about her looks since most of it wasn't good, but hearing it from someone else while it still felt a bit uneasy it was still a good feeling all the same.
She opened her eyes and glanced back at the notepad. Maybe she's been misinterpreting what the color red means to her this whole time, after all, she can't control how other people are going to view her, there are always going to be people who either hate her for how she looks but then has been proven people will accept her how she looks.
"I think red would be the perfect color for that good luck charm you're making."
Aqua blinked in surprise "Are you sure?"
"I'm positive, after all, I know who I am, and whatever negative traits are associated with the color do not represent me. I think it's time I learn to embrace it instead of fearing it."
Aqua smiled happy to hear her response "Will do, let's keep this a secret from the boys I want to surprise them when it's all said and done."
"Of course, do you need help making them?"
"Yeah, that would be great, between the two of us we'll get them done in no time. I'll do yours and Ventus, while you do mine and Terras."
Speaking of Terra and Ven, they could hear the two made quite a commotion meaning they were making their way toward the dining hall. The two girls just chuckle to themselves as they wait for them to arrive.
(Badlands)
Vanitas stood on a cliff edge of a cliff, overlooking the dry terrain where a small stand storm had already taken place. If one looked hard enough, in the far-off distance one could see weapons sticking from the ground.
Without even looking Vanitas could sense a presence behind him, and one that he knew very well.
"What do you want, didn't I tell you before I'm taking care of things."
He heard the old coot let out a huff "You could've blown our cover by attacking Lady Senna as you did, didn't I not warn you to let things be until next month."
"You act like she was such a challenge for me, and your little associate was very eager to send me there himself," he said as he let out a laugh, and this time he did turn around and saw his master completely covered in his black cloak.
"He was also properly warned, now it is not the time to be reckless Vanitas. Have you finished things on your end?"
Vanitas didn't say anything, instead, he walked past his master, as black energy enveloped his body as he walked. He then turned back around and released some of that energy, which then turned into several different creatures. Several of them were small humanoid creatures with red eyes, a triangular head that had two long lightning bolt antennae. Another couple was larger but built like a bomb. The last one was a huge armored creature, whose body looks like it can be torn off and put back together at any moment.
While they were all vastly different, the one thing that all shared in common was heart looking emblem that showed expression.
"Very good Vanitas, what do you call these creatures" his master asked pleased with the results.
"They are called the unversed, as they are all an extension of me and will continue to grow from my negative emotions, so you can say they are not well versed in their existence."
His master just nods "Excellent, soon the X-Blade will be reforged and I will have my new vessel."
"Why not just act now, why go through all this trouble of appearances."
His Master turns his back to him "You need to learn that taking the perfect opportunity will get farther than you realize. Next month is the best time to plant the seeds of doubt into Terra and get Ventus to leave home. Plus, my associate will have more time to get preparations underway for Lady Senna to break the Seal to Sin's prison."
Vanitas just scoffs "Ventus should be easy enough; I can feel that his strong bond with Terra will be motivation in of itself for that idiot to leave home."
"Exactly, that is why you will not act until then do I make myself clear."
While Vanitas knew he had to follow through on this particular order, it didn't mean when the time came, he couldn't deviate from the plan just a little bit.
(Land of Departure- The Next Day)
Senna was quite nervous as she waited for Terra outside, this would be her first day of training and she had no idea what to expect. She was debating whether she should make a new outfit or not for training, but she wanted to see how the first day went. Senna knew it wasn't going to be easy and probably going to take some time before she could even stand a chance in battle, but she was determined to get stronger for everyone and not be a burden.
"You know, you didn't have to wait all this time while I was talking to Master Eraqus"
Senna just smiled as Terra made his way over.
"Well, you know, always better to be early than late. Back at home, almost all of my teachers would scold the ones that were even a minute late to class."
Terra rolled his eyes "It's a good thing I wasn't one of their students then, especially in the mornings."
"So is Master Eraqus okay with you training me, I know this month was supposed to be your time to get ready for your Mark of Mastery Exam," she asked, hoping it wasn't going to be a problem if it was, she would figure something else out because Terra and Aqua have worked so hard for this moment and she doesn't want to be a distraction.
"No, actually he thought it was also a great idea and said it would be beneficial for you to learn, especially with this threat on the horizon, and he said it would give me some insight into what being a teacher is all about."
Senna couldn't help but tease him a little bit "So basically the student has become the teacher, in this scenario."
"Yeah, but I'm fortunate I have such a diligent student who won't cause as many headaches as I do her when it comes to our magic training."
"I can't promise anything, except I'm going to try my absolute best" was all she could say because she could see herself getting easily frustrated, but if anyone could teach her to fight it was Terra.
Terra then gestured for her to sit down "All right let's get started."
"Why are we sitting down, shouldn't be up for physical training," Senna asked confused.
"Before we can even get into the physical part of it, I think we need to go over a lot of the basics first and that might even take a while."
Senna bit her lip, but she trusted that Terra knew what he was talking about so she went over and took a seat.
"Let me ask you Senna, what is your motivation to fight."
"Like I told you before, I was so helpless when my village was attacked and then that masked boy attacked Red, I couldn't do anything to stop him. I want to be better able to help protect my friends so I don't lose anyone else."
Terra just nods "Yes that is a good motivation, but don't forget your enemies also have their motivations as well and will do whatever it takes to win, there are no rules in battle. That is why confidence is the key to any battle."
It immediately clicked in Senna's mind where he was going with this, and it wasn't a surprise to her in the least. She always struggled with her self-esteem which in turn led to her not having much confidence.
When she didn't respond, Terra just continued "You can't go into battle with any thoughts of hesitation or self-doubt otherwise you just give your enemy multiple openings that will lead to defeat."
"I've always let what other's opinions about me define me because I've always been afraid that what they say about me is right, that I'm cursed to bring destruction and I don't want to be a cause for destruction. I know who I am and that is not the person I want to be" Senna said looking down at her clenching fists.
"We need to get you out of that negative head space, and you've already made some progress towards that. I think what is going to take a bulk of our training right now is building up that confidence with a brand-new mindset, this is something I plan on enlisting Aqua and Ven's help in doing."
Senna just sighed and ran her fingers through her hair "It sounds really scary I got to be honest."
"Change is always going to be scary because it puts us in uncomfortable situations but it's how we grow and learn."
She couldn't argue with that, because she remembered how terrified she was when her father sent her away to a strange new place with people she wouldn't know. Now she feels like she found a place where she is free to be herself with friends who truly and genuinely care for her. While the circumstances were unfortunate and out of her control, she never would have felt as happy as she's ever been if she her father didn't have the foresight to send her away. Something good had come out of the bad.
"You're going to make a wonderful Keyblade Master"
Terra let out a sigh of relief "Thank you, it means a lot to me coming from you. Do you still think I'm going to let it go to my head when I become a Master?"
"Maybe a little, but again that's human nature, I've known you and Aqua long enough to know that won't be the case. You guys will still be the same once you reach Master."
Terra just nodded in agreement "Exactly, and if that masked boy decides to show up here then he'll have not one master to deal with but three plus you and Ventus as well."
"I sure hope I can be as strong as you guys when that time comes."
"You will be, it's going to take time and a lot of patience but with three of us helping you, there's nothing you can't accomplish."
Senna took in a deep breath letting the words sink in "So how exactly, am I supposed to change my mindset, seems like it's too late for that."
"We just got to start small by lessening your negative thoughts and turning them into more positive ones. It's going to take time and it's not going to be easy, but I think once we can accomplish that, everything else will start coming to you easier."
It seemed more daunting than she realized because she never accounted for the mentality one must have when battling, and Terra knows that she would not make it far in battle if they can't change her mindset. So, they spent part of the day just trying to talk about the parts of her that she liked about herself, and it was a struggle for her to say the least.
One of the few things she did pride herself on was never giving in to the people around her, there were times she would've loved more than anything to retaliate against everyone who went out of their way to make her feel bad and treat her poorly, but she didn't want to become the type of person they were and vowed she would prove them wrong in their assumptions about her and show them she means well.
"So, you ready to go get some Lunch, and meet up with Ven and Aqua? Ven should be done with his lessons with Master Eraqus and Aqua should be done with her solo training." Terra said as he sat up and stretched his arms.
Senna just shook her head "I think I'll join later; I'm going to meditate for a bit and clear my mind."
"All right, see you in a bit then."
As Terra made his leave, Senna sat down on the ground with her legs crossed and took in a few deep breaths as she closed her eyes. She was working on clearing her mind of all of her negative thoughts and emotions, trying to focus more on the positives.
It seemed to be working for a while, but then she felt a familiar pang in her head similar to the one from the night before, except maybe a little less intense. She tried to open her eyes but soon enough that bright light came into focus.
The bright light faded and when she opened her eyes, she noticed she was standing in some sort of badlands,
Her eyes widened as she saw she was surrounded by thousands and thousands of Keyblades sticking out of the rugged terrain.
"This must be the Keyblade graveyard I read about," Senna said as she looked around the dry terrain.
Suddenly as she turned around, she saw a tall figure wearing heavy armor that was in shades of dark brown, gold, and red, with a helmet sporting two long prongs.
He was walking up to her, but he didn't seem to not to pay her any mind as he walked past her and picked up a keyblade. The figure then turned to their right and saw another armored figure walking towards him, though this armored figure was a bit shorter and their armor was mostly grey, but with some shade of silver, black, and purple. The two prongs on their helmet were angling downwards.
Senna suspected this figure was a woman based on the chest plate.
The figure then turned to their left and this time another armored figure was approaching, who was significantly shorter than the other two. Their armor had a lot of steel blue, black, and a yellowish green, with a hint of gold and red. Though their helmet seemed flatter than the other twos, and the prongs on their helmet were pointed backward.
The other two grabbed keyblades of their own and suddenly a small sandstorm was starting and all three of them then turned their attention straight ahead of them.
The sand was making it difficult for Senna to see what they were looking at, but all she could make out was a silhouette, possibly two.?
The wind picked up even more causing her to close her eyes.
Senna immediately knew she was back in her own body when she could no longer feel any sand, but instead the soft grass that she was sitting on.
She opened her eyes and immediately got up from the ground.
What kind of vision was that and who were those three armored figures?
"Hey Senna" the familiar voice of Ven called out.
She turned around and saw Ven running towards her as Terra and Aqua followed behind him.
"You going to finally join us for Lunch, maybe you can bring out some more of your familiars to meet."
Senna didn't say anything, she just stared at the three of them in confusion, as she looked at each of the bits of armor, they each had on their left arm. It wasn't something that went unnoticed by her before, but it never came up in conversations before.
The pieces that are on their person seem consistent with the color of the armor in the vision, so it had to have been them, but was it the boy in the mask that I was seeing as a Silhouette, and if there was someone else with him, then who could it be.
She was so distracted she was startled when she realized a hand was waving in front of her.
"You ok Senna you're spacing out, are you not feeling well again" Ven asked concerned.
Senna quickly shook her head "No It's just that meditation didn't work as well as I thought it did, a little confused by it is all."
"Then let's head inside and get a proper meal, your body is probably still adjusting from the other night" Aqua offered.
Senna agreed and immediately started walking along with them back inside. She knew she should probably tell them about these visions she had been having, but she still wasn't sure if they meant anything or not. It might be as simple as her mind trying to make her paranoid with everything that's happened, she doesn't want to overthink something that can be possibly nothing.
Author's Note
All right here's the next chapter, and it was kind of a continuation from where the last chapter left off, but some important information all the same. I'm going to leave what Rikku whispered to Senna to your imagination lol. So, we're nearing the end of this first "Arc" of the story, I say one or two more chapters before we really get into the main story, for those who don't know the story I think you'll be shocked at what is to come. In this first act, I just really wanted to showcase Senna starting to embrace her unique features as she's forming these friendships and learning that there are people who will accept her for who she is. I really hope I've been able to convey that to you guys. So, what are your thoughts on these visions Senna's been having, do you think they have any meaning at all?
So, I'll leave a picture at the bottom so you can see what the armored figures looked like and I have updated the character page with the other newer characters that we have met if you haven't seen already.
