Nocturnal thoughts 3

Sirius would have loved to hug his former classmate. It was wonderful not to be in pain anymore. He hadn't had a day in five years when his teeth hadn't hurt. Nobody cared about that in Azkaban.

And best of all, it wasn't just the pain that was gone. His teeth were also healed.

Seems like Snape really knew his potions.

He curled up comfortably next to his godson or should he say next to his familiar?

He really enjoyed this game.

Besides, you learn a lot as a dog. Sirius had never been so grateful that he had chosen this animal.

Although, the day had been quite something. Those tourists. He had never expected Harry to be so famous. Well, understandable really, he was the only one who had survived the death curse. As he now knew, Lily's sacrifice was responsible. That woman really had loved her son more than anything.

But it was also cute how the little boy had hidden behind the bat. He would never have thought that James' son would be so shy and timid. He really was very different from his father. Snape was right about that. There couldn't be enough attention for James but others usually had to suffer for it.

And again, he could only thank his dog form. Otherwise he wouldn't have known what the political situation was in this country. It was just stupid that Harry apparently had to serve as a figurehead. But Snape wasn't stupid, he had cast a spell that made it impossible for people to do anything with Harry's signature. They would really only be able to use the autographs for themselves and to show off.

Good, not that a document would appear tomorrow in which Harry committed himself to something and all because someone had stolen his signature.

It seemed as if the poisoner knew very well what he was doing.

Well, the visit to the healer wasn't that exciting, but he'd never liked healers, no matter what form he was in.

Then these outrageous marriage proposals. Damn, the kid was thirteen, he shouldn't be thinking about marriage for a long time yet, yet nobody seemed to care.

He found it funny that Snape had told him twice to chase someone away. He even listened to such orders.

Sirius had to suppress a laugh. If only the guy knew who he had in front of him all the time. Snape would turn him into a bedside rug.

The man was so good at stroking.

He heard deep breathing next to him. Harry turned onto his side and snuggled into his fur.

The boy needed as many cuddles as he did.

What Sirius had learned today about the little boy's past still made his fur stand on end and then all those wounds, not only were there bruises and fresh welts, there were also scars. Probably from a belt. And the way Sev... Snape's face was contorted, he had also found it difficult to hold back.

What had those despicable Muggles done to the boy?

He was really grateful to his former school enemy for his help. Maybe he shouldn't think of him as an enemy anymore. Apparently, he had done more for Harry than anyone else in the magical world and that was outrageous.

This boy had saved them all and they were shunting him off to people who couldn't stand him. Sirius had to be careful not to growl.

He still found it remarkable how Sever... er, Snape had managed to get the boy to talk.

It had clearly been difficult for the man and when Sirius had seen the scars on him, he couldn't help it. He wanted to show the man how close it was to him. But as a dog, you just didn't really have that many options.

He still couldn't believe that he had really licked the guy's arm. But he had to admit one thing. The bat had a delicious taste. He would like to repeat that again.

'No,Sirius, bad dog. You're in your godson's bed. Such thoughts are forbidden here!'

Great, now he had to play his own chaperone.

But there was something else that left him no peace.

The matter of guardianship.

What idiot had decided to give the old man guardianship over Harry? What had the Minister swallowed to think that was a good idea?

Yes, he knew that Crouch had been through a difficult time himself. His own son was a loyal follower of the Unnameable and worst of all, he had killed his own mother.

After the crime, Crouch was very hard on Death Eaters and his son in particular. Just about everyone was sent to Azkaban. The man almost lost it but that was no excuse for his wrong judgments. After all, the man was not alone. He had a whole council of wizards to help him. But they said yes and amen to everything.

And what was the result?

He was sent to prison without a trial and innocent. Severus Snape had also been denied a fair trial. Until Dumbledore turned up and then Harry was put in the care of that old chicken.

If Sirius was quite honest, he would have preferred to leave his little boy in the hands of Lucius Malfoy.

The man hadn't been a real supporter of Voldy for a long time. Quite the opposite, Sirius had gotten most of his information from the blond back then.

Something else that had never come to light. Precisely because he hadn't been granted a trial.

Well, Sirius knew that the Malfoys had escaped punishment, but that must had certainly cost the man a lot.

So many had been punished despite being spies or informers whle others had gotten away with it.

What bothered Sirius the most was that Dumbledore still seemed to have so much power, if not more. Everyone seemed to look up to the man. Well, he didn't. Sirius had sworn to himself when he had escaped from Azkaban that he would bring that git to justice. He wanted answers. Why hadn't he saved the Potters and Longbottoms? Why had he only helped some of them?

And most importantly. Why had he given little Harry to a family he knew would hate the boy?

Lily had often been terribly upset about her sister and her husband at the Order meetings. How much they hated the wizarding world. That they thought Harry was a freak.

What was Dumbledore thinking?

Sirius would have loved to return to his true form right now and storm off. But Severus... Damn it, why did he call him by his first name? Snape would have stopped him. Probably even killed him. He could have done it, the man had always seen Lily as a sister. He must have been very upset by her death.

He found it all the more commendable that the man cared so much for Harry. Well, they had difficulties at first, but they slowly pulled themselves together. Somehow the little jibes were funny. Sirius was still wondering what Bonanza was? Probably a muggle thing. He would ask them both some day.

Yes, some day he would walk around as himself again. But first he had to prove his innocence. Before that, Snape probably wouldn't listen to him at all. That was what he wanted, Sirius wanted to apologize for his behavior at school. Even if Snape probably didn't care. It was important to him. He wanted to prove to himself that he wasn't the idiot he used to be.

But all in due time.

Sirius looked at the sleeping boy, he looked really cute.

Then it occurred to him. He really had to get Harry and Snape to go to Gringotts again. Who knows what Dumbledore did with the boy's money. He knew about the gift notes. That's how James and he got a good report card back then. Until they finally started to make an effort themselves in seventh year.

But now he should get some rest. Let's see what the poisoner had planned for tomorrow.
